Marc Mc: Beautiful overlook of KC and really well decorated venue. We were here for a wedding, most of the food was good, avoid the chicken though. Service is wanting here however, very difficult to get served basic things and they seemed to be lacking a bunch at the bar. Lemons, limes and most drinks weren't well stocked.

Dee: The ambiance was amazing. The outdoor patio seating made it comfortable and safe. The J-Love band was amazing and the wine selection. I wish they had a better menu but the food was good. Overall it was a great date night for us!

Jose Byrd: Visited during a recent large party business trip. The views from the two level dining hall were so elegant, especially during Christmas time. Near the window you could see skaters at the local outdoor ice rink and the bright holiday lights that decorated Crown Plaza. The meal was quite good, although the bread served was burnt on the crust and no one (after 3 asks) seemed to remember to get my hot tea after the meal. A great place for that special holiday meal.

Lloyd Jasper: Many think of fine dining as passé. They may be right in terms of available restaurants, especially outside of NYC and LA. The American Restaurant in Kansas City is closing after 43 years in business at Crown Center. So if you are a big fan of the place or want to eat at the last vestige of fine dining in KC--you better hurry. We opted for the three course pre-fixe menu which had five different choices for each of the three courses. If you are not used to fine dining the service is slower and more relaxed. That doesn't mean the servers are not attentive, but you won't feel as rushed. Food here was top notch with a wine selection that is unparalleled. This unfortunately will be our first and last time as we live Hawaii. If you live nearby and like fine dining, this will be your last chance.

Maria Ahumada: I was on a business trip on my own and decided to see what The American Restaurant was like. I didn't realize how fancy it was and first thought it was out of my price range. The host was very helpful and suggested the lounge area and menu. They offer small plates in a pick and choose style of ordering. I had the duck egg, sablefish and octopus. All were excellent. The waitstaff were really nice and helpful in choosing my dishes. I highly recommend to experience!

Carolyn Vines: Like other reviewers have said, the food in taste wasn't mind blowing like I was expecting for the price. The view was great, but the waitstaff could have been more uniform. If everyone served the same way it would be one thing. Only one server was 5 star elegant and eloquent. The others were 3 star at best. Otherwise, excellent service, and a great place to take your friends. :)

Alexa Savka: We came here to celebrate Father’s Day and my son’s 4th birthday. There was no wait, our server greeted us right away, and everything was amazing. The atmosphere was perfect, my husband got to watch the US Open and enjoy a cold beer while I had a lavender martini. The Poké Nachos are to die for. I highly recommend their Vampire Tacos and a cup of Tomato Bisque. It’s velvety and delicious and hits the spot every time. The tacos have amazing texture and flavor. My husband said his Korean BBQ Philly was incredibly good. Definitely get truffle fries when you go too. Overall it was an excellent experience and we will be back again and again. I haven’t had any issues ever when going here and it’s never overly busy.

Alpha Landingham: Staff was on point. The restaurant space is rather small and feels kind of crowded. The decoration is art deco, strong 1920s glitz theme. The food was solid standard fare for a four-star hotel. Nothing bad just nothing all that special. I got the steak and my dad got the fish. Our server was definitely worthy of note as were the cocktails/bar.I would give the overall experience 3.8 stars. Enjoyable, but not exceptional.

Annette Berry: Located in the Ambassador hotel, you see a slew of different people, which adds to the electricity of eatery. I've been many times and the food is always good, service is hit or miss. On this last visit, it was definitely a miss. TRAIN YOUR SERVERS! I like Friday nights for live music and good drinks. If not for the consistently good food, I would not return. There are too many good places to eat in KC to pay for bad service, please fix it!

I’m a pescatarian, and so I was left with absolutely no entree that I could even eat.We left and went to Lidia’s where they were able to serve everything published on their menu and had a respectful server and delicious food. They have a much wider variety of alcohol than they do food. Limited menu and I have food allergies so I could literally only order a grilled cheese sandwich and it was bland. I will not return. I can go elsewhere with more menu items and for a much cheaper price. I literally spent $100 for 3 glasses of wine, a grilled cheese, and a bowl of soup.

I got the roasted chicken and it was okay. The skin still had feather remnants (look like long hairs) which kinda freaked me out. The skin was seasoned but the meat itself was bland… especially the breast. Just plain chicken breast. My husband got the prime rib sandwich and it was 80% fat. Looked like they cut up whatever they can’t serve as part of the actual prime rib plate and throw it between some slices of bread. Brad Warren: I didn’t eat, but the food that I saw looked good and several people told me it was very good. I only had cocktails. It was a beautiful day in KC, so they had the windows open. Really nice views and great for people watching. The bartender, Gabby, was on top of her game. I never had an empty glass and she was kind enough to brew me fresh coffee at 3 pm with an almost empty restaurant. The location is great and I will definitely visit again.

Chris Morris: Never been the kind of person to put down anyone’s establishment, but todays experience for me was horrific! Today my family and I walked in for lunch and we were seated by a polite host, once we were seated we were given our menus to look over. We sat there waiting for some kind of assistance, or even someone to offer us a glass of water. But to my surprise no one showed up, literally about 5 mins later a bigger party was seated right across from us. As we sat there for 10 mins, no service, no water, the waiter proceeds to take the order of the bigger party as if we haven’t been sitting there before them. Within that time frame about 3-4 waiters walked by and still no assistance, by this point I decided to get up and go back to the front desk host and asked why we haven’t been served and why the bigger party is getting serviced before us even though we were there first. He walked over to get a waiter to come over to assist, by that point the damage was done. It’s not the part that we had to wait, it was the simple fact every single customer in the establishment was white and we were the only 3 black people in the restaurant. We felt disrespected and discriminated against, because the party that was sat right after us were all white. This was a horrible experience for myself and my family, will NEVER go back to this establishment, especially where black people get ignored even though our money green like the rest!

Chris Reyes: One of our favorite places. The food is consistently good here. The bar tenders make the best drinks. The bacon wrapped shrimp is a must. Outdoor seating is a must when its nice out. Large area outside to gather. The owners are there quite a bit to make sure the experience is personal. We usually get the steaks a salad and drinks. The carrot cake is our favorite for dessert.

Annette Berry: Went for date night and really enjoyed our dining experience. We started at the bar for re meal drinks. JJs has a great variety to choose from, and the bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. Then we moved outside for dinner. The food and service were generally great. My date didn't like his swordfish, and my carrot cake was dry and tasted like a bad grocery store version. Otherwise, the food was delicious. The ambiance must be mentioned cause it was so nice and added to the success of evening. I definitely recommend JJs for date night!
