When we got our final headcount in it was less than expected, but Charity was incredibly accommodating in reducing our cake size about two weeks in advance. E Wise: Great place to get certain bulk items such as waters and drinks. The scan and go is a nice touch. You can be in and out in no time. You do have to dodge the salesman in the electronics area nearly every time, which gets old.

Baily Miller: Ordered a deep freezer and it was delivered damaged, we contacted customer service and arranged to have another one delivered. Same thing damaged again but this time when we called customer service the agent told us we could get a refund but that they wouldn't replace it again and to shop somewhere else.

The self checkout is getting large and this is like the worst store for those. Unless I have just a few things I avoid the self checkout, it's just not worth the risk.

I bought 4 cakes by the way, 2 of which had less icing than normal.She turned me away, a customer who was willing to pay extra for something they have readily available. She said there wasn't a way to do it. So I explained how it was done all the times before, and she shook her head at me like I was asking for taco sauce.Maybe she was having a bad day, or maybe she was upset because I attempted to help her understand how it was done before.As I was leaving, disgruntled, holding a 20 in my hand, she said "sorry," only it wasn't a sorry, it was a "Bu-Bye."I said "No, you aren't, if you were you'd help me out."I've spent over 500 dollars here. I doubt I'll be spending any more unless the customer service figures out how to put the customer first."I wasn't asking for anything crazy people, come on? I have spoken with many of the workers, and all of them have been very nice. Until now.I don't want her to lose her job, I just want to be able to not feel like poop walking back to my car having to tell my wife I can't buy extra icing, she won't let me.

Bruce Aaronson: I went inti the store to get twp loves of challah i was told they make them on friday. I ask if two could be made for the 14th of sept i need them for a holiday on the 15th. I ordered them a week a head of time. They also said that thay would be kosher. When i went in on the 14 the day that they were duethe people said they only do them on friday and didn't know anything about the special order theyhad two frozen in freezer which were not kosher. I was wery upset. Will not go in again

Occasionally, they'll make a Rosemary Garlic bread & rolls which is unbelievably good. I've been a fan of this bakery since 2006 and they never disappoint.

Alicia Quick: In short, the cake tastes amazing and they are great for just walking and buying a cake, but doing a special order was a complete nightmare.I ordered a wedding cake from HyVee. They have a display section of wedding cakes with many intricate designs, so I thought it would be perfect. We got a free sampler plate to pick which cakes we wanted, and they were DELICIOUS. Lots of options to choose from, and they tasted amazing. Everything after that was a mess. We put in our order over a month before the wedding. The manager we spoke too sounded very confident that they could do what we were asking. I emailed the store a reference picture with a short list of changes, and they replied thank you. The cake was to be three tier, white and sage green icing, gold leaf in a couple spots, and some gold geometric lines on the bottom tier. We were told we would be called about 2 weeks before the wedding with a final price. 2 weeks pass, and we hear nothing. Another week passes, and still nothing. We had to call them to ask for the price, and they said that they didn't have a picture of the cake we wanted. I know they had it before because I got a reply email. They also told us that the manager who did our order was on vacation. I texted them the same picture again. A day or two later we get a call saying they can’t do the gold leaf or the gold geometric lines unless I bring in the supplies (this is a Hy-Vee policy issue, not a bakery issue because of the difference between “nontoxic” and “edible”) I wasn’t upset that they couldn’t do it, but I was upset that they’ve had at least 3 1/2 weeks to figure it out, but 5 days before the wedding they can’t do 90% of the design. I was also told another reason that they didn’t have hardly any supplies or tools was because “We’re a grocery store, not a bakery.” So I’m running around town frantically trying to find edible gold leaf and pre-cut gum paste. (I’m also not super knowledgeable about gum paste, but after talking to another bakery, they said you can’t buy pre-cut gum paste because that’s not how it works. Even if it was pre-cut, it would still have to be trimmed to fit the cake. Hy-Vee said they didn’t have the tools to cut it, but it sounded to me like it could be cut with just a butter knife. I could be wrong about this part, but I didn’t have a lot of faith at this point.) After wasting my time driving around, I found nothing and had to tell them to change the design of the cake 3 days before the wedding. We still had not been told a price. The morning of the wedding, I had to call and ask what the price was and pay over the phone. When we saw the cake, it was good, not great. The sage green was more of a yellow green (not cute for a wedding cake). The people I talked to were always polite, but it was just a really rough experience. So again, they’re great for just buying a pre made cake, but I wouldn’t do a custom order ever again.

Love the idea of having a butcher, on the scene, to cut steaks and wrap the selected meat per pound in individual wrapping paper. Also have baggers available to bag your merchandise. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful.

Renee Fox: I ordered a cake for my mother's 80th birthday. A two-tiered round cake with rosetts around the bottom and scrolling around the top. When I called back the next week, I spoke with the young lady that said she would be making the cake. She had a picture. I talked with her in length about the color. As everyone's interpretation of color is different, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't pink. I did not want it like the picture which was more pink in color. I wanted it to be a dusty rose almost mauve color. I used those exact words. She said she understood. So when my sister picked the cake up, it was pink. Like baby shower pink. Seriously! So while the cake was very pretty and looked very similar to the picture, it was pink. We obviously ate it and it was good. (my mother of course had no idea it was the wrong color). But I was disappointed cause I know she doesn't really care for the color pink. So long story short, make sure your on the same page as the Decorator. And yes I would still go back there for another cake.
