Yung Lenk: I had the cachete, lengua, and cabeza tacos, they were very solid choices - I would’ve preferred them as more of a street taco style with just cilantro and onions, but they were very tasty. As a 200lb man, that wasn’t enough food, I’m probably going to have the torta next time because of the larger portions. My michelada though was the best I’ve had in St Louis so far and would be worth returning back for.Their customer service was excellent and their ordering system was very quick and people were getting their food fast. Overall, I would highly recommend !

Brit Mosley: Oldie but goodie! I’m not one to reminisce on the good ole days BUT there used to be a time where I frequented this restaurant weekly. It’s been a while and the food shows that. The prices are still reasonable which I appreciate, facilities are clean and the faces are smiling. This time I ordered the chicken quesadilla. I am pretty sure they gave me some type of beef quesadilla because chicken just doesn’t look like what I was eating. The meat was fatty. However I will say, my order was only $8 pre-tax which these days are unheard of. I will try the food again and maybe order something else.Suggestion to restaurant: please bring back the fried ice cream.

Nixta: what do users think?
Matt Spencer: Just visiting to STL. We landed here on accident, because it's close to the botanical gardens. It was the food highlight of our trip. Best octopus I've had in the states.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Alex Besmer: Ah, Nixta. A place that defies conventional expectations, Nixta in Tower Grove, St. Louis, is a culinary masterpiece hidden in plain sight. The unassuming exterior might not catch your eye, but step inside and you'll find a quaint, colorful, and beautifully adorned space that promises a memorable experience. The decor is charming in its simplicity, yet immensely pleasing to the eye. It's not your typical fine-dining establishment, but that's where its charm lies. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, allowing you to focus on the real star of the show - the food. And what a gastronomic fiesta it is! Every dish is a revelation of flavors and textures, from the Guacamole and Escabeche, a vibrant medley of pickled vegetables, to the main plates that are nothing short of artworks. The Roasted Cauliflower, a rustic delight paired with Mexican squash and shishito pepper, redefines what vegetarian cuisine can be.Don't miss the Crab Empanada, where the richness of crab meets the crunch of a perfectly baked pastry. The Japanese Sweet Potato, while not on the online menu, is an unexpected yet delicious twist. Then there's the Chicken Tinga, a traditional dish bursting with flavor, and the Crispy Octopus, which is bathed in salsa macha and served with a refreshing broccolini salad and frijoles gigantes.Nixta presents Mexican cuisine as it should be - vibrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. It's not about oversized portions drowned in oil, but rather a thoughtful and beautifully curated family-style dining experience where each dish has its own identity and story. This isn't your regular Tex-Mex joint; this is a deep dive into authentic Mexican culinary arts.Everything about Nixta exudes passion and meticulous attention to detail, from the presentation of the dishes to the quality of the ingredients. If there's one place that serves authentic Mexican cuisine in St. Louis, it is undoubtedly here.Nixta, you've won our hearts (and stomachs). If there were a way to award six stars, we would not hesitate. Until then, a perfect five will have to do. Thank you for a truly unforgettable dining experience.

rosalind latham: It was cinco de mayo and we decided to go down to Cherokee street the day before the "big" celebration that they usually have. The streets were backed up with cars and people were arriving from all directions. We had walked a couple of blocks before we noticed Nixta, people were standing outside and we hadn't found any other places to eat, so we went inside. The line wasn't that long so my girlfriend went up to order some food, there were only three things on the menu and they only had one person taking the orders and the drink station was separate with a different person taking drink orders. I ordered the pork belly tacos and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tacos. The difference sauces were located on the counter so you had to go up and use a small cup to put some sauce in. They both were delicious but small so I tried to order another round but they had closed the kitchen already. We had a margaritas that was pretty strong but good. I guess they closed early to prepare for the next days events for cinco de mayo. We had a good time and called it a night.
Oniel Polanco: Over rated. Too expensive , the portion of food are for so small that I end up going somewhere else and have a Norma meal , and three drink for less…
Natalie Merli: Went on one of the busiest nights for them no doubt, Cinco de Mayo. We got there in the 9 o’clock hour and were told by the hostess, Natalie, we could sit at the bar if we wanted to be seated immediately luckily.Alex, the bartender gave us some great recommendations of mezcal cocktails, which were delicious. My drink was a special that night with green tea in it. Had the chips & killer salsa-so good, pork tacos, cilantro rice, & street corn (in bowl and almost soupy). Everything was delicious! Wrapped it up with three churros & the horchata ice cream. They had a live, authentic mariachi band with horns & accordion. Alex although busy, was very attentive. Glad we got to have a great Cinco de Mayo experience at this local gem.
Jennifer Ng'andu: Unhidden neighborhood gem in the heart of Shaw. Simple, but elegant. This is Mexican food at its finest. If I had been here another week, I would have eaten here 3 or 4 times. Make sure to start with guacamole. Yes, you can make it at home and yes, it is worth it. One must get the picante margarita with tequila infused with 7 peppers and the tajin rim. The smoked pork enchiladas with "Christmas" moles are perfection every bite and the octopus tender. If was cow I still might not be satisfied because I wouldn't have enough stomachs.Kid-friendliness: Not really atln atmosphere for children but you can bring them.
Adair Fuller: Great food and atmosphere. The large plates are just that, nice large portions, and the small plates make for great sharing options. We will be back soon!
Eliu and Naomi Gonzalez: Had a date night here a couple weeks ago.Ambiance inside is unique, nicely decorated and cozy.Staff was friendly. Our favorite dishes- The passion fruit ceviche is DELICIOUS! Nice bright acidity and flavor. The house made tostada served with it is the best we’ve ever tried. The mushroom enmoladas with pistachio were SO unique and delicious, the perfect not too rich comfort food that balanced the acidity of the ceviche. My husband ordered the skirt steak tacos and I ordered the grilled octopus- both were delicious but we both wished for the expensive price that the portions were just a little bigger.Drinks were delicious and fresh- even mocktail has high quality ingredients.Only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because I feel like we’ve been to many of the nice, true foodie dinner spots in StL and this one just felt a little overpriced in comparison. A nice date nonetheless.

Elizabeth Cali: Get a cocktail! Both the Higuita and Sonoran are drinks we would return for. Tried several dishes and enjoyed nearly everything. Our favorites: cochinita pibil, tamal de rajas, salsa and guac, and cilantro rice. Wait on the corn (esquites) until it's in season. And so much more still to try on the menu!

Lynne Hart: :( 😞 I've been trying to try Nixa for a while, it's super cute inside but at 64 degrees outside I would really prefer outdoor seating options. Food was good, a bit steep on prices but quite filling. 2 small plates and 2 drinks ran us $70 before tip. No problems whatsoever but for the price I could have been more wowed.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

El Burro Loco: what do users think?
Rex Berry: The food was good, and I enjoyed the setting. It was busy, but not completely full. It was hard to get service, and we had to wait probably 20 minutes to order after we had our drinks, then when finished, it took about another 30 minutes to get our ticket. Then they took forever to get my card back to me. They were not that busy.

Tasha B: UPDATE May 2023: Reducing my rating because I tried to order carry out yesterday by calling and they hung up the phone in my face 3 times. They do not have a good system for ordering takeout and their restaurant is very busy and noisy and they cannot hear well on their line. They use delivery services for delivery, which may be a fine experience, but takeout is awful. As a result, I searched and found another Mexican restaurant (in Richmond Heights) and had GREAT service and GREAT birria tacos. I likely will not be going back to El Burro Loco after the experience yesterday.PRIOR REVIEW:The food was delicious! Loved the tamales and the chimichanga. Would have liked cilantro and onion with the birria tacos, but they were still excellent. My only complaint is the low quality serving ware. I’m fine with plastic ware, just give me good quality, sturdy plastic ware. Spend a little bit extra and go to Sam’s or Costco and get the better quality serving ware. I’ll be back, but I might bring my own serving ware.

Mike Blosser: Excellent margaritas, great service
Gregory Robinson: I'll have to answer that when I actually go to the eat. I just picked up some clients there the place looks amazing though beautiful beautiful restaurant
Laura: Unfortunately this was the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had and I just ordered a shrimp fajita. The vegetables were undercooked and didn’t give any flavor and the shrimp had no color no sear no flavor and they even remade it and still didn’t bother doing it right. No air conditioning and we were a little bit upset that they sat us out in direct sunlight in the heat instead of like under a pavilion or something just to keep sections when we were like the only people there and we were just miserable and our margaritas melted in less than 10 mins.
Michael Mayer: The Birria tacos are so good here.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More

Tasha B: I ordered carry out at the bar on yesterday and the server/bartender was excellent. The birria tacos and guacamole were really good, but I didn’t receive the consommé or any salsa with the meal. Part of my assessment of a Mexican restaurant is their salsa and I missed that experience. For service, taste, and atmosphere, I rate them a 5, their attention to detail in filling my takeout order was lacking and is rated a 3, averaging a 4.

Kimberly Underwood: This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I love that the food isn't just the 'tex-mex' food that is at most Mexican restaurants. The service is great and the margaritas are wonderful! There is also a large outdoor patio.Kid-friendliness: The offer a kids menu with great options.Parking: There is a lot near the shopping center, as well as a parking garage.Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is on the ground level, and there is plenty of room for a wheelchair to navigate.
monica foster: I was sitting for about 15 mins before my chips and salsa was brought to me. During that time two friends came and sat a table across from me, and another couple came and sat by the door. They were served chips and salsa before I was! I’m thinking ok no big deal, but then their order was taken before mine and I’m trying to understand how does this work. Another friend group came in about 15 mins later and they were ready to leave because NOONE asked them what they wanted, no one had given them water, a menu anything……I came here for a good bday lunch and needless to say this was a horrible experience!
