The fried potato with caramelized onion and the cheesy grits with smoked daikon were real stars of the show. I sent the following message directly to the restaurant, but after a month without a reply from Vicia I felt I had little choice.“We had an appalling experience last Saturday while dining at Vicia.  We've eaten at Vicia several times, and enjoyed the prior experiences, but the most recent visit was appalling.   We paid for the elevated wine pairings to go with what we thought would be a tasting menu.Your tasting menu is anything but a menu degustation - it's a three course dinner served family style.  The pairings for the "tasting menu" were a glass of very average white, followed by a very thin Bordeaux, Duc des Nauves.   These are bottles of wine that retail for LESS than $25, and that's retail, not trade.Five of us had the parings, so we had one bottle of white and one bottle of red for the table.  You charged us $250 for wine that you paid well under well under $50.  I get the usual 2x mark up from retail at a restaurant, 3x gets irritating,  but 5x???   That's nothing but insulting - you are exploiting your customers to the point it borders on theft.  I can't begin to imagine what you serve for the base pairing.We raised this issue with your staff, and let's just say they were less than helpful.  Their tone was dismissive, and they repeated over and over again "what do you want us to do?".  First step, don't put this back on the customers.Please understand that we are not serial whiners.  The food was great, but the flagrant price gouging, combined with the poor response from the staff, ruined the experience.”
Michael Snowden: Wow Vicia was a wonderful meal and I am blown away by how affordable it was for 2 people for this quality of food. I’ve been to other places with this level quality and I end up spending over 1000 but not here. Our bartender Tyler was a really nice guy and the wine guy was excellent as well. We did the farmers feast and it was superb. Will definitely be back in the future!

When the first course came, one of the entrées was pork, we had told her we are 100% kosher so we can’t have that. So they adjusted my serving to a little arugula salad. Then came second course and they had chorizo inside a sauce and we told them we also can’t have that so they replaced it with two little bit cakes. The only protein we had was two little pieces, upper thigh that was split. Then we got the tab and it was $263 because it was $85 per person. We were never once told it was per person. Well I didn’t want to feel rude or rub my message often anyway, but I did email the restaurant and contacted them through their personal site and they have yet to even respond.

It’s heavily vegetarian but there was a little meat. Some of the options were yummy, some were a miss for me. — “‪Muskrat Steve‬” —: This is a bit higher end than I am used to. We did the tasting option and celebrated our engagement. The food was exceptional. We both enjoyed 95% of what was served and what we didn't like was due to palette preferences and not the quality of the food. The wine pairings were perfect. The staff was amazing. I didn't think the dessert was on the same level as the appetizers and main course but it still tasted well. Ultimately, I hope to return again. Laura Moore: Be prepared for some heat with your main courses. Full disclosure, I read the description for lemon chili treatment with my selection, but could have heeded it more. In fact it was the lemon chili treatment that caught my eye. My seabass was prepared expertly and presented on a hubbard squash (i believe) mash that had fine flavors included, then dressed with mentioned lemon chili oil. Tasty, chili-ed and rich. The brocolini,sadly, was a bit tough, but the tenderer parts were very tasty.My friend also found her roasted chicken surprisingly heated in taste. She loved the vegetable combo for its presentation, but was similarly caught not anticipating the intensity.We'll be back, and more attentive to the descriptions. Thanks Russell's!

Courtney Berry: Had a great breakfast with friends. The cinnamon roll was delicious, the French toast fantastic, and the Flatbread yummy. We grabbed some goodies out of the pastry case on the way out. Try the tiramasu and the lemon curd cake. They also have a variety of gooey butter cake, get that, too. You can't go wrong with anything you order. They had the back porch all cozy with heaters and blankets. We'll definitely go back again.

(Cold and windy but I don’t blame them for seating us outside, it was the reservation apps fault).Our server seemed mad to serve us and had very few words to say. The only time he was fast to return and check in on us was when we asked for the check.The starters were good but not worth it. Some $10-15 tiny plates are so delicious that you don’t care that it is basically $3/bite. This was not the case here. Shishitos we’re basically flavorless and the pickled veggies were cut so big and were so underwhelming in both flavor and presentation.The warm pita and the caponata was great. The only reason I might try Olio again.We got some cocktails that were average so nothing to say about those.We were so disappointed by our server that we didn’t even bother ordering dinner and we instead just got take out from Tin roof. I hope that the server was just having a bad day because he was unpleasant to interact with. Shame because we went there to celebrate my college graduation and were ready to enjoy some great food and cocktails.

rosalind latham: I have been passing by this place for 3 years, so when my girlfriend wanted to go for her birthday dinner, I joined her. The place is so cute with its own herb garden and greenhouses. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. We sat down and ordered drinks, which were excellent. The menu, which is Mediterranean, isn't very big, but we ordered different entrees so we could see what they were. I had the lamb shank since the lamb shoulder with hummus was sold out. It came with 3 sauces and yellow rice and chickpeas. It was cooked just right and was very good. It was supposed to be a plate for two, but I could eat that all by myself. My only complaint is the glasses the drinks came in were smaller than the usual martini glass, and the chairs are auditorium chairs and too hard. We had a great time and will go back again.

Bartender was knowledgeable about various types of alcohol and liqueurs, and the drinks were fantastic! I would highly recommend the hummus with the pine nuts (can't remember the name at the moment), but it was so good we ordered one to go! I wish we lived closer because this would certainly be a regular spot to enjoy!

They happened to have a wine tasting happening while we were there and we had a great time enjoying the wines as well as chatting with the featured vineyard owners. The servers were friendly and cheerful. The food was so so delicious. My husband and I split the deluxe hummus, the bruschetta toast and the egg salad toast and it was more than enough for the both of us. I also got the ginger spritz which was really refreshing.We left full and satisfied! Will definitely be coming back and bringing friends next time.

Eric Farson: Fantastic experience. The food and service here are some of the best in St. Louis. Period. Everyone was friendly - the host, waitress, and manager. I have never experienced this before at any restaurant in St. Louis. They really went above and beyond. I got the seabass and it was amazing. The patio is fantastic and also one of the best in St. Louis. I will be back once they reopen!

Like I said below, major systemic issues.I wasn't going to write a review, but the service I received on a Friday evening (8/26/22) was so bizarre I've been thinking about it all weekend. I called the Thursday prior to inquire about reservations for 3:00 p.m. drinks and dinner. I was assured that it would be so slow at 3 that reservations would not be needed. I arrived at 3 p.m. with a party of 4 and no one was in the lobby or bar area so we waited around. A woman came through the door from outside on a mission and stopped in her tracks and asked "do you need something". Not rude, but certainly not kind. We explained we were there for drinks and dinner and she let us know there was no waitstaff to help us yet. Cool, I've worked food service before, I know how it goes right at opening. We asked if we could start with drinks and apps and were directed with a curt finger that it was outside. The bartender asks if we're going to order drinks and food, we say yes and order. We start towards the tables in the dining area and the bartender tells us we should sit in the bar area so she can bring out our apps. I let her know I need to sit at a low top table and there are none in the bar area. We proceed to sit at the table closest to the bar in the dining area. We are only there for a few minutes before she comes over to tell us that the table is reserved. There are zero people in the dining area. It's 3:20 p.m. I let her know that we're planning on ordering dinner and that I can't sit in a high top table. She assures us she has something over in her section. She seats us at a cheap cabana couch, directly in the sun (it's 98 degrees out) out on the deck. It has a tiny table that our drinks and apps barely fit on. We are boiling. We finish our apps and drinks and decided not to stay for dinner (because how even at that table). As we're leaving there are 2 tables seated in the dining area. No reason for us to have been moved. The drinks were great, the food that we had was delicious, the service was the absolute strangest thing I've ever come across. I'm willing to make excuses for 1 person having a tough afternoon and providing subpar service - it happens. When it's multiple people and multiple instances - that's systemic.

Issa Lifestyle 1: There was mouse droppings on the table. No one working there even attempted to cleaned it up. Horrible first impression. The hostess working Sunday 8/28 around 10:15am did not greet us when we arrived, she said something to a server then continued to eat her bacon. I said "hello" and she replied, "Can I help you?". Immediately I felt the quality of the experience sink to fast food level. I let her know we were there for brunch she asked "Do you have a reservation?" "No we do not." She shoveled the last of her bacon into her mouth, grabbed 2 menus with her hands she just put in her mouth and walked away. We reluctantly followed hoping to recover the ambience of the experience but at this point we are already not feeling welcome. We were guided through a small bar area and sat near a window in the back of the room. Immediately we noticed the droppings on the table, but the hostess had already gone back to the host stand. We never even sat down. I walked back to the host stand to bring the issue to the bacon eating hostess' attention to which she said 'it isn't feces or else we would be shut down'. I advised her that was exactly why I came to tell her instead of taking a picture. Her reply was "Go ahead take a picture cause it's not that." I replied,"OK I will." The person I was with had to ask for a different table, it was not offered to us by the hostess. She said 'the only other space I have is this or that', pointing toward a table in the corner by the door of the room we had just left. We walked over to the table ourselves. As I noticed she was not going to formally seat us, so I took it upon myself to retrieve the menus we left at the poop table and of course to take the photos of the mouse droppings on the table and in the window seal as suggested by the hostess (see attached). It took us about 10 minutes to find a different place to go for brunch; the entire time no one attempted to investigate or clean up the mess we reported. As we left the manager tried to speak to us but it was too late. I couldn't leave that place fast enough. People deserve to have a choice what environment their food is in especially during pandemic times. Definitely looks like rat sh't!!! I will not return.

So we showed up and got ignored until we told the hostess we’d like to have a drink and apps. After being pointed to the bar, through the window, we headed over. One party doesn’t deal well with high top chairs, so we headed to a 4 too under shade after being told “I won’t be able to give you service but that’s okay, I’ll till serve you”So we sat in the shade and maybe 3 minutes later we’re told the entire area was reserved and we had to sit in the sunniest area of the roof top. Had we not ordered, we would have left.This was the oddest and most uncomfortable experience I’ve had in any restaurant, not just in St Louis.If you want bad service, rude staff, and to be lied to, accompanied with honestly good food and cocktails - this is your spot.
Suzie Scrivner: This is my second time here. The food is great! Courtney our server and Bryson the bartender were wonderful. The woman at the hostess stand made me feel like I was intruding. She even came to me and my table at the end of the night to let me know that they were closing at 10. I did not see her tell any of the other patrons that they were closing. I will not come back to this place. We spent over $500 and felt like we were being kicked out early. There were four of us. We asked who she was and were told her name was Sharee. We still had full drinks and desserts. Please put a smile on your face when you are greeting customers. Don’t make them feel like they are not welcome.
Beverly: What happened? Last year we had a lovely birthday dinner with wonderful food; the set menu was fabulous, and the staff were incredibly attentive. This year it was just… bad. The baked brie with strawberry-basil marmalade would have benefited from a more generous serving of the marmalade, but that was forgivable. The coq au vin was absolutely flavorless and dry—confusing given that the dish is literally cooked in red wine. Interestingly, it was served on the same dish shape as the steak even though there was liquid on the dish (still somehow flavorless). The veggies were reminiscent of those served in an elementary school cafeteria. The strip steak was overdone, and the best that I can say about it is that it can be used in leftovers. Prices are far too high for the quality of food. We’ve even been here twice because we really wanted to like it since it is walking distance from our house. Jim Thacker: I refuse to believe that people frequent this place on a regular basis. This place is the most over priced, over rated restaurant that I have ever been in. The ambiance was horrible, just a dilapidated old building. I had the braised beef with glazed carrots and potato puree. The braised beef was okay, the carrots consisted of about 1/2 of one carrot diced at different angles. The potato purée is nothing more than watered down mashed potatoes and there might have been two tablespoons of it. The salad that I had was the worst I think I ever had. The desert, the floating island was nothing more than a dollop of whipped cream on a little crème brûlée sauce with some shaved almonds... not even a scoop of ice cream. I’ve had better dinners at Cracker Barrel and Bob Evans. I've eaten at many high end restaurants but I've never been so disappointed. I’ve paid high end prices but was never disappointed like this place. I have no idea how they got so many good reviews. $127.00 for the wife and I with the tip. She had a half chicken. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

I’ve had my 14th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, & 29th birthday dinners here with my family and friends, and also for other celebrations over the years. I most recently dined here for fun in March 2023. The cuisine is always delicious, the staff are excellent, timing is always smooth but never rushed, the atmosphere and energy is positive, and I always look forward to the experience. René Saller: Tree House is my favorite restaurant in St. Louis and always my first choice for a special celebratory dinner. The food is delicious and innovative; the atmosphere is comfortably elegant; and the service is exceptional. I love the way the staff is attentive to all the diners in the restaurants--friendly without hovering. The nonalcoholic cocktails are exceptional, too; I'm especially fond of the Mighty Kind CBD seltzers (Orange Dream and Cherry Blossom are both phenomenal). My absolute favorite item at Tree House, though, is the brussels sprout salad--caramelized to perfection, with a deliciously addictive lime-chili dressing that haunts my dreams. Even if you're not a vegetarian or vegan, you'll find something you love at Tree House--chances are you won't even notice that the jackfruit isn't pork or the Chik'n isn't chicken, etc. Give it a try! I have been eating there for years and have never had a less than exemplary meal.

David Storey: Tree House is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Their all vegetarian/vegan menu is really helpful to me, since it gets rid of the usual questions about menu items being cooked with chicken stock or bullion. The food is always spiced really well; it adds to the flavor without overpowering it. The service we've had has always been very good, the atmosphere gets a little loud when the dining room is full; the space is tight and has a lot of sound reflecting surfaces. If you're with a party that doesn't mind speaking loudly, not a problem, but if you're looking for a quieter meal, it could be an issue.

Penny Phillips: Poor customer service. Charged me $5 for one (1) little extra piece of cornbread for my meal and gave me resistance about even being able to order it citing they make exactly one (1) piece of cornbread per limited number of jambalaya meals prepped each day and customers are typically not allowed to order a piece of cornbread to accompany any other meal on the menu. It’s just bread… literally the cheapest food to make…. & it’s not like they have any dinner rolls or other bread options… heck seems reasonable someone might want some bread when eating an American comfort food dish and they’ve made it a big deal and over-charged me more than once. Seems like a decade I’ve been super loyal & eaten there 2-4 times a week but I’m done with that place now.
