Kansas City Christian School: what do users think?
Ben Robinson: Overall, this school is a fantastic environment and safe place where your children can feel free to express themselves and their creative passions. Unfortunately, as this is a small school, there are some limits to athletic programs, but that does not mean that the school is un-athletic. the soccer and baseball programs are both excellent and provide your child with enough fitness training to be able to climb Mt. Everest. The school has incredible theater and music programs as well. Brian Miller is both an experienced actor and director, and he makes incredible shows every fall and spring. Trent Tinker is the band director, and he never fails to entertain with his fantastic performances and contagious enthusiasm. As stated above, I would recommend this school to any one.
Tereasa Gilmore: Quality education with a Biblical worldview.
Olivia Price: This school has been an amazing place to go, and I'll miss it when I leave!! The teachers are incredible and the community is welcoming and full of love!!!!!!!!!!
Austin & Rachel De Boer: I am a teacher at KCC and I love my job!
Megan Hutcheson: This school is a great pick if you want your student to grow up within close relations with his peers and teachers because the atmosphere is such a friendly and homelike place. Because of the size of the school however, you shouldn't be surprised at the lack of options, not saying that the classes are bad, but the size of the school restricts the school from greatly expanding their extra-curricular activities and classes. Otherwise the school is an excellent private education for your student to experience a conservative, traditional, and non-denominational learning experience with other Christian Teachers and Peers.
Nicholas Beach: This place is awesome yo!
Doug Goertzen: My son is in 1st grade and we love the school. Good teachers, high standards and expectations...but with teachers that love the kids.

Kansas City Academy: what do users think?
Sydney Bernstein: I attended Kansas City academy from 2012-2014 and was a staff member during the 2021-2022 school year. My time as a student at KCA was transformative. After a tragic death of my parent in 2010 I was struggling academically and socially in public school. I would frequently skip school due to anxiety and depression. As a sophmore I knew I would not be able to graduate at the current high school I was attending and began to look for alternative options. A family friend who was a staff member at KCA recommended I come visit the school. From the moment I stepped foot in the door I knew I wanted to join KCA’s community. As a student I was given the opportunity and freedom to explore myself in a safe space where it was okay to be yourself and make mistakes. I was offered a lot of leadership opportunities. I wanted to come to school everyday. The faculty and staff were so welcoming and encouraging. For the first time in my life I felt seen, heard, and accepted by KCA’s community. I was so sad to graduate in 2014 but I have remained a part of the community one way or another 9 years later. I recommend this school for any student or parent looking for a academic environment that is creative and accommodating.
Sage WolfeZogg: I graduated from KCA in 2015. They teach kids to be involved in their education, to explore their own interests, to endlessly ask why. We learned to think of people besides ourselves, to break problems down into manageable amounts. I was one of the students (selected by the students) who decided on community services requirements. There were students, facility, and community members involved. Even as a 15 year old I felt heard, supported, and respected.
Lauren D: Great school. Small classes. Teachers were involved with students. Had their own garden and cooking classes. Lot of fun engaging projects especially art.
mike cowger: Kansas City Academy, and the staff that makes it what it is, has been a tremendous source of support, kindness, and growth for our son, who has just completed his first school year there. In what could very well have been an incredibly difficult time the staff at KC Academy has created a wonderfully welcoming and inclusive environment where our son has (and is still!) learning how to thrive and take his own narrative with both hands and make it his own. I absolutely recommend KCA for any kiddo and family who are looking for a place to really belong.
Margaret Chaffee: Ay KCA my child feels valued and seen for all her gifts and talents. So thankful for the compassion and creativity of the staff and students.
Suzanne Raney: We love this school and its creative, kind and compassionate teachers and staff.
Amy Parker: This has been a life-altering, amazing school for my daughter. For a kid who didn't fit in with the more traditional public school setting, KCA was just the place where she could be herself. The teachers and staff are informal, approachable, VERY supportive, and maintain a quality, meaningful education. I would never have thought a school like this existed and will be forever grateful that it does. This school goes above and beyond to not only support each unique kid but help them become the best versions of themselves they can be. I truly hope KCA will always be there for students like my daughter. I am so, so glad we took a chance on KCA.-The parent of a 2022 grad
DeAnna Skedel: If there ever was a community that puts the social and emotional development of their students first, this is it.
sloane swift: This school is bad, the kids here are bad. The teachers teach horribly i didn't learn anything. The students pushed me to attempting suicide, several times. The teachers did not investigate and it was horrible.
Samsung Chromebook #17: Worst school i've ever gone too, the staff allowed other students to bully me due to my family not being able to afford the tuition. They refused us for financial aid, and allowed rumors and lies about me spread throughout the school. I got sent death threats, and became very depressed during this time. It was horrid. Please don't send your child to this school.
Avont'e foster: The Best Experience!!
Cathy Metcalf: KCA has been extremely proactive in providing our children with a top-notch experience under the current COVID-19 conditions. The teachers spent the summer learning new digital platforms to assist with their online lessons. The school created a balanced schedule for the students to be digitally engaged with their classmates and teachers daily. KCA is consistently evaluating conditions to determine when students can return to in-person classes. The online schedule was designed to seamlessly flow with the in-person schedule once students can return to campus. We have the utmost confidence in the leadership and faculty at KCA and we know that our children are receiving the best education possible to prepare them for their futures!
Annette Wallace: Love this school! My child struggled last year as a Freshman. This year they transferred to KCA! So far the improvement has been phenomenal! So grateful for the wonderful, involved staff!
Amber DeAngelo: The best, creative, accepting, supportive school in town!
AUTO MART USA: GOOD ACADMY
Cooper Enochs: Gotta say gotta say it is relatively EPIC???? YES EPIC!!!!! Ooguns boogus
Kristine Ennis: KCA is such a Fabulous learning environment . Their curriculum and staff engage the students and the safe and welcoming environment allows for a superior education to develop. I highly recommend this wonderful, community based, small school. We had multiple years at Catholic schools and by far KCA is the best!!! We only wish we had discovered it sooner.
Aisling Crowe: KC Academy has helped my daughter be more confident. She is encouraged to think for herself here. The teachers at KC Academy are supportive and inspiring. So happy we found this unique school.
Jeff Weis: KCA has been a wonderful fit for my son since sixth grade.
Brennan G: I am a KCA graduate of 2001. This school was a great influence on how to manage my life responsibly. The teachers were the best. I loved my experience here. After graduating I moved to Los Angeles, finished college and I'm now an television editor for NBC Universal. Thanks KCA.

Sumner Academy of Arts & Science: what do users think?
Kristall Pruitt: Attended the last orchestra concert for my Godsister JaKayla R. Brown and she received honors!!! So proud of her
Thrain: While I do go to this school, and have made some friends, it overall has destroyed my mental health. I have had mental breakdowns, panic attacks, anxiety attacks, etc. My family, and other people who don't go to Sumner are always confused as to why Sumner has so many days off, or days we don't go to school. Here's your reason, it's to basically give their students a break from work; which I personally am grateful for. The friends and (most, not all) teachers are nice. In this school I have made more friends here than I have in my entire life. There are other people who are like me here! I was used to being alone, an "outcast" if you will, so to find other people who are like me make me happy; which is why this isn't getting a one star, but a two.
camis romero: Miss K an opp frshes a speech teacher and she played a speech a student didnt feel comfortable playing in front of the class and she didn't care.tell her to teach something else she an L and cant teach right
Caleb Colston (Blue Steel): It's pretty stressful at Sumner, sure, but it's for good reason. My mental state is absolutely dead but as I said it's for good reason. The school is supposed to prepare you better for life after high school, and it's worked so far.
CHKN PCKLE: This is a terrible school that doesn't take care of their students, worst time of my life, my mental state dropped drastically going there. Sumner barely deserves even one star.
Jazelyn Luna: Most miserable years of my life 😳. Ignore whatever they tell you about it's reputation. I hate it so much here
Daniel Flores: I unfortunately didn’t make it but it’s worthy of 5 stars
Corie Heard: Great School 👍 Great Staff!
Lexi 913: Best years of my life! Prepared me so much for college! The teachers from class of 2011 cared so much about us ❤️
Lisa Smith: Awesome school!
Rhonda Hill: Students are Very successful when they graduate from here
Hannah Remick: I personal went to Sumner Academy of Arts and Science and they teachers care about their students, they want each student to succeed and achieve your goals.
Reginald Custard ll: My daughter go to this fine school...
Alexander Aguirre: Sumner is focused on quantity of work more then quality of work. That is never a good thing. Nice community though, I've never felt as if I wasn't welcome. With most of USD 500 being unwelcoming to me, this was a nice change.
Quin Hall: wow cool school lol
Camo GlowGang: its a good school for smart people that is really smart
AJ Morgan: My son was well prepared for college and life due in large part to what he learned at this school.
D.S. Holland: A good school with tons of potential. However, Sumner has a ways to go. I am a senior this year, and my experience with Sumner has been that it focuses more on grades than the quality education of its students. Of course, just like any school, there are good and bad teachers, and good and bad classes. Yet the problems at Sumner extend far past the classroom. The traditional way of teaching, of taking a class of 30 individuals and teaching to the average student, leaving a third of the class behind and another third bored out of their minds, is not an efficient way of teaching. It is NOT a good school for all learning styles. It only suits the organized, traditional learner.Yes, Sumner is a vigorous school with strong curriculum. However, according to the Kansas Dept. of Education, Sumner has maintained an average ACT score of 21 or 22 for the past 6 years (which is about the National average), some years falling below the State Average. This is because Sumner has virtually no ACT preparation classes, workshops, tutoring, etc. There is a no late work policy as well that states any late work will be a "zero" (will receive zero credit). In the world of progressive academics, this is considered ludicrous because a failing grade is being assigned to a paper that the teacher never saw. It could be the most well written, powerful, organized paper in the school, but if it's turned in 5 minutes late, it doesn't matter. The student receives zero credit. This policy does not encourage excellence in the classroom, it encourages obedience and compliance. It is more important to turn in completed work than to turn in quality work.Furthermore, the school was recently rated in the top 100 high schools in America in terms of College Preparedness. This ranking is assigned by the ratio of students who take higher level classes (IB or AP) to the percentage who graduate. For Sumner, the ratio is 1:1. Every student is required to take 2 IB classes: IBH English and one other. This forces students to take the IB exams at the end of the year. Exams that are scored across the world. Your score on them determines whether or not you...Well, nothing really. You receive the scores the summer AFTER you graduate, AFTER you have already been accepted to College. AFTER you receive the last of your scholarship information. The IB scores are only valuable IF you take all IB classes (At least: 3 higher level IB courses, 3 standard level IB courses, and Theory of Knowledge). This is called "Full IB" and will earn you an "IB Diploma" if a student passes all classes AND receives a sum of 24 or greater on their 7 IB tests.(Tests are scored on a scale of 0-7, 0 being worst and 7 being best. The average score varies from class to class, but a good estimate for Sumner is a 3 or 4 average. This, compared to other IB schools in the area, is somewhat lackluster to their 5 average). This diploma makes for a nice centerpiece on your office wall, considering it doesn't help with your degree. Now, don't take this all the wrong way. Sumner is a good school. The students are encouraging towards one another and there's a home for every student, whether it be in theatre or choir, sports or cheer, magic the gathering clubs or art, there's a place for everyone. There are some simply outstanding teachers who relate well with the students. Everyone 9th-12th grade receives a MacBook Air laptop to use throughout the school year (as does the rest of USD 500). There's tutoring available most days and it's not hard to make good friends. However, at the same time, Sumner has a ways to go. There is so much potential bottled up in this school. It's just been hard unleashing it. I would encourage everyone to come to Sumner if given the opportunity.Unless, that is, you have a learning style that is very different from most students. In that case, be prepared, because without an IEP (for "Gifted Students" only) or a 504 Plan (A government disability form), very few teachers will work with you to try and accommodate for your learning style. The best of luck,Daniel
Melissa Faught: High hopes
Laura Flores: I'm currently a Senior at Sumner Academy. I did not take the Full IB Diploma opportunity but I took 3-4 classes of IB classes each year for Junior and Senior year. It is an excellent school for any student, with any learning style. There is tutoring provided for students almost everyday after school and plenty ways to become involved, sports, clubs, etc. Teachers are very open to students who need help and change their teaching styles to that of the students. Sumner is a great school for anyone who likes challenge! It's ranked #1 in the State of Kansas for college preparatory schools and around #67 in the US. You cannot go wrong with going here for high school!

Heidi Milliken: We're a military family who moved from the Nashville area of Tennessee. The schools there were fantastic. Staley is a whole other level. The academics, athletics, faculty, community spirit all go unmatched compared to the many school districts we've lived in. We actually bought our home for this school. My daughter is an AP student and part of the incredible Marching Band program. She was also given a MacBook Air to use through her time there. Plus I hear the lunches are great🙂 The new Principal is full of positive energy and motivation as well, he'll continue to take the school to even higher levels, of that I'm sure. The community has been so welcoming and it's such a gorgeous area to live in.

Great American Basketball: what do users think?
Jennifer Morris: Just go find another “club”, you’ll thank me later. Horrible refs every year except for like 2 people, which you rarely see. And if you’re not in the GABL league or from MO you’re at a disadvantage. League supervisors and “directors” are also useless in safety, legit complaints. They shouldn’t even be allowed to run a basketball “club”. I say club loosely. It’s a joke.
Nora G: I should know better before. My son did a try on, after that they have a nerve to send me an email that he wasn't selected. RACIAL, I can see all on your web.
shane unick: I have been disappointed with this league. Their officials and court supervisors are uninformed regarding the league specific rules and the league shows a complete lack of accountability including an unwillingness to hold discussions regarding issues.
Mark Lehmkuhl: While we were initially excited to participate in this league, we quickly changed our thoughts. The lack of communication and basic planning for schedules is quite frustrating. Not having a season planned out and keeping open communication to inform the patrons is quite difficult for families to plan.
Laura Hefte: Awful customer service. Can't get anyone to ever call back and I'm sorry, but $195 for REC level bball in which parents volunteer to coach, should absolutely include jerseys for older kids as well. Reversible jerseys. Easy. What the hell does $195 cover in this league v the 3rd grade and younger...who get jerseys. I'm so tired of sports programs ripping hard working families off. So many kids can't even afford to play.
Terri Koch: I am so disappointed in the way things are being handled with the players, refs, fans, and other coaches safety. On May 18th we played against Carrington Lady Hawks 6th grade girls at Lenexa City Center. The officiating was horrible on both sides the entire game to say the least. We beat them by 1 point. Carrington stormed the court and started yelling at the referee. He pushed the ref. The ref put his arm up and Carrington was in the refs face and put his hands on him again. Someone from his team came and got him. The other ref came over and Carrington got in the refs face again. Someone pulled Carrington back and they went out the door. We were all in shock. Here is my issue. The league was told about the altercation and nothing was done. He was at the following weeks game. We can hear him yelling in the opposite gym. Sadly we had to play his team again today. I filmed it this time in case he got crazy again bc I was seriously concerned for our safety. He of course did but he won by one point so he didn’t put his hands on the refs this time. Then as we are leaving we hear him tell his girls that we were trying to get him kicked out of the league so he couldn’t coach today. One how can you let a coach put his hands on a ref and not suspend him or remove him from the organization. Second, how unprofessional to tell the coach that the opposite team is trying to get him suspended. By not suspending/removing him from the organization for putting his hands on the ref says several things. One,the refs safety isn’t important, Two that it’s ok for coaches, players or even fans to storm the floor and put their hands on the ref, and third it tells the players, coaches, fans that their safety isn’t important. When did sports get to be about money and not about the kids???
Farrah Brown: Everytime I have signed my son up there is never a coach. I've called 3 times and get no return call. Very frustrating!
Dawn: This was our first year playing with GABL and I think it was poorly managed. I understand that GABL does not choose to cancel games but it is the school district, however there should be pre-determined dates for make up games and practices. Also when trying to get more practice time or a make- up practice that was cancelled, no communication was ever responded to our team after emailing numerous times, and I know other teams had the same issue. We did not get good quality for what we paid for the season. Unfortunately this is one of the few basketball leagues in the KC area, and I think they get too overwhelmed with the amount of teams that are signed up. Not sure if there is a cut off the number of players/ teams for the season. One of the good things was that in every game, the referees were good.

Stephen Stark: The staff and teachers are excellent and, in my experience, really care for the kids and the families they represent. The school approaches teaching with a "Kingdom Education" philosophy, an approach you should read about and study yourself if you are considering this school. If you are in the Northland of Kansas City, this is definitely a school you should at least consider.
