Independence Mayor: what do users think?
Greg: When did it become more important to give out tickets for speeding than one for illegally driving an un registered car on road . Oh the officer might catch these criminals if they weren’t getting there free food at McDonald’s ,Quick Trip ,and what day is it they are at backyard burgers hmmm. Even Sugar Creek joins in for the fun really what a disgrace
Floyd R. Swenson: These people are crimanals
Creole Cletys: Almost a week ago my house was a crime scene. I witnessed the person who did it, as did multiple other neighbors. I then waited for four plus hours to be treated like a second class citizen of a third world nation by your "wonderful" "officers". If that wasn't bad enough the overwhelming "no body, no crime attitude" of the responding "officers" left me with a sense of it being pointless to call the police in an emergency situation. Serve & protect whatever. My car is still an unprocessed crimescene due to the fact that the "officers" refused to get the 9 mil slug out of my dash console. I can't help but feel that the treatment I received is a reflection of the deplorable ways that the upper echelon of law enforcement conduct themselves every single day. The worst part of all of this is that it has been almost a week & the "police" have done nothing. I get it, they are out of shape donut grazers who don't want to work for their paychecks, but for the love of God & all things that are holy, it's not a far walk, it's my neighbor across the street. Step one, get out of comfy car. Step two, walk across the street. Step three, arrest the idiot. I won't make the mistake of calling the police again. Definitely don't feel "served & protected".
Mike C: I would like to take a minute to post a review. I have been in communication with several residents and the mayor about a problem we are having by the Blue Ridge Mall. I have been impressed with how proactive the Mayor is trying to be, how responsive she has been not only to the group, but in finding time to meet with me individually to talk about how we can help. I feel like too many times the political system forgets the individuals and small guys. It is very nice that our Mayor takes the concerns of the citizens personally and is willing to take action.

Independence City Hall: what do users think?
Dennis Mcfarland: Doesn’t answer and usually refuse to help when they do . Wasting OUR MONEYand we don’t have an alternative source
Jeana Hand: Went to pay electric bill. Staff is freindly and I'm always right in and out! Much faster than paying at the company. In addition, you do not have to pay an additional service fee like when you pay online or over the phone.
CeoSoBossy: Get a lawyer before you come to court if you are African American.
Carolyn Richardson: Everyone was helpful here
Nicholas Miller: Very helpful I knew exactly what I needed
Lisa Collins: Is a typical court house. Covid-19 procedures in place.
Glenn Patterson: Worst city of all of KC metro. Good people are leaving in droves. My mom almost bought a $247000 house here but I told her don't do it because nothing is trash bin is worth more than $98000.
Lawrence Leek: Horribly rude, talked over me the entire time.Just moved here from Atlanta and was treated like an inferior citizen, NOT encouraging news from their government. That's not helping either party, deterring potential homeowners.... Truly sad.Worse off the coordinator out front wasn't concerned either. Is this how Independence treats minorities??Ethically disgusted by such ignorance.
Isaiah Shoats: Easy to get lost no clear instructions of how to do literally anything.
Jerushas toybox Spoiler of war: It’s a place to pay bills and speeding tickets.
Gavin Collins: Either fix your website or don’t close for stupid “Holidays”
DaGuyInBlack: Very rude and pushy, also there was a pair of jeans in the restroom trash bin. Not sure what happened there.😂
Justin: public servants work here are very rude and hate the u.s. Constitution. Good people come to film as press. They hate the press. Please go film them and tell these public servants filming is legal.
Pat Jean: If you r looking for a welcoming, friendly & inclusive city to live/visit, the city of Independence is not for u. The city officials use intimidation and retaliation to achieve their goals and treat their citizens as ATM machines to generate revenue (on top of taxes already paid). The city loves to set speed traps in areas where they’re not trying to address a public safety concern but a convenient place where they can hide and catch people for ticky tack violations. I sat having lunch off 24 HWY one day and watched as a speed trap was set up in a section of road where people sometimes pick up speed going down a hill but usually even out coming back up the other side. I didn’t see 1 car driving recklessly or speeding excessively but they were pulling people over like they had a fishing net. The purpose of the trap was clearly to generate revenue plain and simple. Meanwhile there are sections of the city where I never see a police car and vehicles are regularly racing down the street. Independence has no interest in community policing and working to make the entire community a better place for all its citizens. They follow the model of putting cops on the street to generate revenue for the city. It’s not like the city does not have real police work to be done. Meth is rampant and right out in the open in some areas. I guess addressing this problem won’t generate the revenue that five miles over the speed limit or not coming to a complete stop can generate. Police officers do however like to pull people over who look to be of Hispanic origin hoping to maybe find someone they can turn over to ICE.I work in an industry where I interact with many people who must deal with city administrative officials across the metro area and consistently Independence comes up (unsolicited) as a city that is not only difficult to work with but often seems to go out of their way to be spiteful, vindictive and just all around uncooperative. The city uses their code enforcement division to harass and retaliate against people who have spoken up about the city. If you have been designated as a person or group who is not “one of them” or “with them”, you will get nuisance complaints if your property does not look like the Masters golf course. In the meantime, neighbors around the so-called nuisance property that actually do have issues will be overlooked. Businesses, schools and other city property are never held to even close the same standard. I sat through a session of court one day and it was eye opening how the city acts with zero compassion for its citizens. One elderly woman who could barely walk to the front with her walker was getting code violations for a home that had been foreclosed on. It was bank owned at that point and they were not maintaining it. She had documentation supporting the foreclosure and transfer of title and the judge did not dispute her assertions, but he wanted more documentation. There was no effort to get this woman help to resolve this issue or point her in the right direction. It was just pretty much, this isn’t enough documentation and next case. The judge also seemed to go out of his way to humiliate defendants who were being nothing but respectful and made a show of having one handcuffed even though he had been sitting quietly for almost an hour prior to his case coming up. The mentality seemed to be, we have empty jail cells and by golly we’re gunna fill em’ and look at this person who is down…let’s kick em’ in the teeth. The judge was eager to give people permanent criminal records for minor offenses.Independence was home to not only one our greatest presidents but an even better man in Harry Truman. A man who was compassionate, inclusive and knew the importance of community. The current leadership of the city of Independence and many of its employees don’t seem to have a clue about what he stood for and no interest in fostering a community he would be proud of.
Annie Conrad: Prodigal, I'm sorry to hear of your experiences in Independence. I moved hear after living 26 years in KC, and I miss KC. After 13 years here, I'm starting to regret it. I'm Caucasian but feel like I'm often harassed because I'm a single (widowed) woman. I've also witnessed the racism in this city. I hope things are better for you. I'd like to "Get the hell out of Dodge."
Pamela Morgan: They really need a better system. You wait for an hour and a half. Then wait for another hour and a half for someone else to hand you a piece of paper so you can stand in line to pay your personal property taxes. There must be a better way.
I Am Remnant: Would give 0 stars if I could. Starting to regret moving to independence mo. I'm not prejudice at all but want to speak my mind. There is still a lot of of prejudice in the world and independence in one of the places. I made a complaint to this particular city hall about discrimination at the Apple Market on 24 hwy they called themselves looking into it but. A solution was never found. I had a witness and everything for an incident that happened there and a Caucasian lady who gave me her number if they needed a witness. We were followed in the store. My child was accused of stealing. Which she did not. Then the police called on me for defending my child. Nothing was done about it. It's ok, because what's done in the dark comes to the light. Trust me. And as for City Hall thanks for nothing. I feel like We have no rights and don't belong in the city of independence.
