Independence City Hall: what do users think?
Dennis Mcfarland: Doesn’t answer and usually refuse to help when they do . Wasting OUR MONEYand we don’t have an alternative source
Jeana Hand: Went to pay electric bill. Staff is freindly and I'm always right in and out! Much faster than paying at the company. In addition, you do not have to pay an additional service fee like when you pay online or over the phone.
CeoSoBossy: Get a lawyer before you come to court if you are African American.
Carolyn Richardson: Everyone was helpful here
Nicholas Miller: Very helpful I knew exactly what I needed
Lisa Collins: Is a typical court house. Covid-19 procedures in place.
Glenn Patterson: Worst city of all of KC metro. Good people are leaving in droves. My mom almost bought a $247000 house here but I told her don't do it because nothing is trash bin is worth more than $98000.
Lawrence Leek: Horribly rude, talked over me the entire time.Just moved here from Atlanta and was treated like an inferior citizen, NOT encouraging news from their government. That's not helping either party, deterring potential homeowners.... Truly sad.Worse off the coordinator out front wasn't concerned either. Is this how Independence treats minorities??Ethically disgusted by such ignorance.
Isaiah Shoats: Easy to get lost no clear instructions of how to do literally anything.
Jerushas toybox Spoiler of war: It’s a place to pay bills and speeding tickets.
Gavin Collins: Either fix your website or don’t close for stupid “Holidays”
DaGuyInBlack: Very rude and pushy, also there was a pair of jeans in the restroom trash bin. Not sure what happened there.😂
Justin: public servants work here are very rude and hate the u.s. Constitution. Good people come to film as press. They hate the press. Please go film them and tell these public servants filming is legal.
Pat Jean: If you r looking for a welcoming, friendly & inclusive city to live/visit, the city of Independence is not for u. The city officials use intimidation and retaliation to achieve their goals and treat their citizens as ATM machines to generate revenue (on top of taxes already paid). The city loves to set speed traps in areas where they’re not trying to address a public safety concern but a convenient place where they can hide and catch people for ticky tack violations. I sat having lunch off 24 HWY one day and watched as a speed trap was set up in a section of road where people sometimes pick up speed going down a hill but usually even out coming back up the other side. I didn’t see 1 car driving recklessly or speeding excessively but they were pulling people over like they had a fishing net. The purpose of the trap was clearly to generate revenue plain and simple. Meanwhile there are sections of the city where I never see a police car and vehicles are regularly racing down the street. Independence has no interest in community policing and working to make the entire community a better place for all its citizens. They follow the model of putting cops on the street to generate revenue for the city. It’s not like the city does not have real police work to be done. Meth is rampant and right out in the open in some areas. I guess addressing this problem won’t generate the revenue that five miles over the speed limit or not coming to a complete stop can generate. Police officers do however like to pull people over who look to be of Hispanic origin hoping to maybe find someone they can turn over to ICE.I work in an industry where I interact with many people who must deal with city administrative officials across the metro area and consistently Independence comes up (unsolicited) as a city that is not only difficult to work with but often seems to go out of their way to be spiteful, vindictive and just all around uncooperative. The city uses their code enforcement division to harass and retaliate against people who have spoken up about the city. If you have been designated as a person or group who is not “one of them” or “with them”, you will get nuisance complaints if your property does not look like the Masters golf course. In the meantime, neighbors around the so-called nuisance property that actually do have issues will be overlooked. Businesses, schools and other city property are never held to even close the same standard. I sat through a session of court one day and it was eye opening how the city acts with zero compassion for its citizens. One elderly woman who could barely walk to the front with her walker was getting code violations for a home that had been foreclosed on. It was bank owned at that point and they were not maintaining it. She had documentation supporting the foreclosure and transfer of title and the judge did not dispute her assertions, but he wanted more documentation. There was no effort to get this woman help to resolve this issue or point her in the right direction. It was just pretty much, this isn’t enough documentation and next case. The judge also seemed to go out of his way to humiliate defendants who were being nothing but respectful and made a show of having one handcuffed even though he had been sitting quietly for almost an hour prior to his case coming up. The mentality seemed to be, we have empty jail cells and by golly we’re gunna fill em’ and look at this person who is down…let’s kick em’ in the teeth. The judge was eager to give people permanent criminal records for minor offenses.Independence was home to not only one our greatest presidents but an even better man in Harry Truman. A man who was compassionate, inclusive and knew the importance of community. The current leadership of the city of Independence and many of its employees don’t seem to have a clue about what he stood for and no interest in fostering a community he would be proud of.
Annie Conrad: Prodigal, I'm sorry to hear of your experiences in Independence. I moved hear after living 26 years in KC, and I miss KC. After 13 years here, I'm starting to regret it. I'm Caucasian but feel like I'm often harassed because I'm a single (widowed) woman. I've also witnessed the racism in this city. I hope things are better for you. I'd like to "Get the hell out of Dodge."
Pamela Morgan: They really need a better system. You wait for an hour and a half. Then wait for another hour and a half for someone else to hand you a piece of paper so you can stand in line to pay your personal property taxes. There must be a better way.
I Am Remnant: Would give 0 stars if I could. Starting to regret moving to independence mo. I'm not prejudice at all but want to speak my mind. There is still a lot of of prejudice in the world and independence in one of the places. I made a complaint to this particular city hall about discrimination at the Apple Market on 24 hwy they called themselves looking into it but. A solution was never found. I had a witness and everything for an incident that happened there and a Caucasian lady who gave me her number if they needed a witness. We were followed in the store. My child was accused of stealing. Which she did not. Then the police called on me for defending my child. Nothing was done about it. It's ok, because what's done in the dark comes to the light. Trust me. And as for City Hall thanks for nothing. I feel like We have no rights and don't belong in the city of independence.

City of Independence Utilities Center (IUC): what do users think?
Eric Burd: Maybe the worst run utilities department in the country. How can u force people to use this new website to pay bills and it doesn't work? Greedy, poorly run. Get out of Independence
HeartBreaker ColdHearted: RIDICULOUS!!!! I CAN'T EVEN LOGIN INTO THE "NEW WEBSITE"; IT KEEPS GIVING AN "ERROR" MESSAGE. IT'S ALSO ANNOYING TO WAIT ON HOLD FOR AN HOUR, JUST TO TALK TO A PERSON ON THE PHONE! THE "NEW" WEBSITE IS HORRIBLE; THAT'S FOR SURE. IF THE WEBSITE CAN BE UPDATED, THERE NEEDS TO BE A FIX ON NOT WAITING ON HOLD FOR FOREVER!!!! IT'S RETARTED. HIRE NEW PEOPLE!!!! NO ONE HAS TIME FOR ALL OF THE THAT!!!!
Jessica Wright: Currently, still on hold after 55 minutes. I am a new customer and have had only two billing cycles - both "wonky" according to the representative that placed me back on hold for an additional 15 minutes because she herself was confused. $450 deposit is absolutely ridiculous and have read in previous reviews $250??? I want to make absolute certain that I get back my deposit (12 mos on time payments), but YES they make it difficult to pay your bill or even understand it.Follow up: I got my deposit back 5 months? past when it should have been credited to my account. They base your deposit on the previous year's usage - wow. I had to call to let them know it was owed. They sent a confirmation email, but it was for the wrong account. My statement did reflect the correct amount. What they did not tell me is as a new customer is that if you're the home owner, the deposit is waived showing the deed. It may be stated in the "welcome" letter that I never received. It is as if they acquire deposits when they're not necessary and hope the customer forgets it is due back to them after a year of on time payments.
Kerry E: Poorly managed and run. The Mayor should be ashamed to let this continue. Forget about calling as you will wait over 30 minutes for an answer.
AJ Windmeyer: Website is down. Did not get a bill this month. Waiting for a customer represenitive for over 45 minutes. Can't sign up for the "new" website because my last 10 bills don't have my account info on them. What a joke. I'm sure they will send me a "late fee" too.
C Wiiin: The new website is terrible. I can view my bill amount, but I can’t view usage. I also can’t pay my bill. The website says you can only pay open invoices when I click on the NEWEST invoice?!?!? Ridiculous. I’ll have to go pay in person. Also, $3.50 for paying by card? Greedy!
Darren Goin: Could you make it any harder to pay my electric bills? Being able to afford your overpriced electricity is already hard enough.
joey smith: Next to nearly impossible to ever reach anyone there . I been trying to get my refund from my deposit back for two months .City of independence why even list a phone number to contact if your not ever going to answer 42 minutes today alone on hold .
James Carneal: Great customer service!
Charlie Goodrich: Website screwed up. I guess everyone has to sign up for a new account. Here to pay the bill. There was a line but it moved quickly, kinda. Teller was friendly.
Julia Long: Will not answer phones. Have called twice waited once over an hour and 30 the next time. And still no answer.
Dianna Schafer: I have never had trouble playing my bill when I put my numbers in it tells me I don't have an account with them
Hannah Clevenger: You would think with how money hungry this company is they would make it easier to pay your bills! The new website is ridiculous and just simply won't even load!
Michael Casey: Your new payments system is trash. You guys are trash
Casey Traders: Thanks for changing your billing system. I had it figured out and now you made it six times more difficult to use and no one's ever available to help you. Y'all are a joke. This company is a joke. The employees are a joke
Joyce Whittle: Bill is so high, something has to be wrong somewhere. Can't get help until you get a shut off notice, then there's no help to be found and your out of time. People might as well give up,
Jessica Mcclain: Does anyone know what I can do about this? IPL came to my house today while no one was home and pulled my back gate open. Breaking wood and ripping up my grass to get it open. Then drove a truck into my back yard and TORE UP my yard leaving tire tracks so deep all through my entire yard. Then left leaving my gate open and my dogs got out while no one was at home. I am sick over this and don’t even know who to contact about it. My back yard is a mess now 😞.
Jeff Herrman: Had to call to set up for average bill pay. Where other utilities like Evergy you can do that online. Was on hold for 35 minutes. The lady that answered was very nice but informed me that my balance had to be zero so you must call on the day that your payment for that month goes through or you can't do it
Stephanie Stanton: Wow, barely use any electricity and I'm charged 250 / month MINIMUM. Nobody can afford this. Then they are ALWAYS short staffed so where's my money going!? CLEARLY not to hire anyone to answer the phone because I'm currently on hold for over an hour to just report my bill was paid. The website is archaic, so clearly our 250/month bills aren't going to upgrade the web design. Maybe the amount of money we waste on electric bills (robbery tbh) should be looked at as inhumane.
jackson g.: Does anyone actually do their job? Everytime I call I sit on hold for over an hour. I can't even reset my password via the website they want you to use.
Nathan Brenizer: Let me preface with what I'm about to say with this; I readily admit my faults, and I accept plenty of culpability with my current situation. As of today, Saturday March 25th, 2023, I currently have no power in my home, and for the foreseeable future, I won't have power until I can get together enough to pay what I owe. That said, we still have nearly a week until the "cold weather rule" expires, and within the next week, according to the forecast I am looking at, we will dip below freezing twice in that week. I was NOT given the 96 hour notice per the guidelines of the Winter Disconnections Guideline set by the Missouri Public Service Commission, and in fact when I respectfully asked the serviceman if I would get a door hanger tag or some other notice, I was rudely told they only did that during cold weather months. I was actually disappointed with this interaction because other instances, I previously had pleasant exchanges with these workers. In regards to the office staff, in terms of yesterday when I went to talk to someone, the woman was nice, and I had no issues. She was actually quite helpful and pleasant, all things considered, but that is not always the case. In fact I've often had problems with the attitude and lack of empathy. It could, perhaps, be due to the fact that in a city with a population of 122,000+ they seem to have less than 10 agents to operate customer service in:re billing. It's worth the gas regardless what corner of independence you reside in to go, rather than spend 45+ minutes on hold, only to deal with someone so thin skinned(in customer service?) that should you accidentally slip a 4 letter word into the conversation they can/will end the phone call.If the City of Independence cannot properly manage their utilities, they need to pass the baton to someone who can

Independence Health Administration: what do users think?
Jenna Tolls: If you're poor and have to work any kind of service job where you're berated by customers, paid pocket change, and have to sell your dignity to the horribly angry-over-nothing citizenry, don't think your struggles are over because now you have to shell out the equivalent of over 3 hours of work to pay to work. Isn't it just nice being a part of the local serfdom? Like the city doesn't make enough setting speed traps and pulling everyone over as they camp out on the side of the roads while the crime rate is still sky high. Just hoping some city officials read this to at least know we're upset, even though I know they won't care. Because, well, who are we to them? Oh, right, just the people that pay their salaries and pensions. No one important.
Charlie Goodrich: Business oriented. I come here to pay the Pit Bull fine each year.

Julie Brown: Adventure Oasis in independence is so horrible! The manager has an overextended sense of authority, is rude and hostile! The staff of children are no better. I just witnessed an older woman being asked to leave because the manager didn't like her suit which was covering more that some of the young female staff that have their entire assessment hanging out for all to see! They only allow independence residents and 23 year olds have yo have a. ID. How 13 year olds have IDs????? This is idiotic rule if no outsiders is prejudice and under no way to run a business! If if us a Grandview kids money not good enough at this park? This place makes me sick and I will pass around fir people not to come here!
