James Montejano: I’m from Chula Vista, CA (San Diego) and this is definitely not SD Mexican style food…I’ve tried this place 3 times now. Yesterday I had a purple burrito with shrimp added. First, the tortilla tasted like it was an undercooked, doughy, microwaved tortilla bought from a store. The carne asada tasted like hamburger meat/old steak. The shrimp was decent! The rolled tacos weren’t bad too! I’m told that the fish tacos (and tacos in general) are really good but I haven’t tried one yet. Good people running the place and it has a good vibe, just not San Diego Mexican food lol.

Allan Holiday: Great people here. Building easy to see from road. Parking is a little difficult with larger cars and trucks. Food is ok. They use roast for their steak dishes and tastes like eating roast if ordering shredded meat dish. Two tacos and rice and beans dish is really good. Handicap accessible.

Michael Williams: This is the best place for a California burrito I have ever been, when I tell you each bite Is packed with flavor and attention to details, everything from texture, consistency, even distribution of the ingredients inside, the tortilla is soft and fluffy but still firm enough not to rip, and the sweet and spicy sig sauce is immaculate. In 40 states and 2 islands I have never had something this incredible 5 stars for service, 5 stars for quality and flavor, and 5 stars for price and options.

Hope for today Generation: I love Taco El Gordo, the times I have went they treated me like family. Everyone is so friendly, even the owner. The food is first class, so don’t judge the place from the outside. The meats they serve in the food is unlike anything I’ve tasted. It taste like they butchered and prepared the meats fresh that day. I’m addicted to this place and need to increase my budget so I can eat here everyday. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, it’s a well kept secret spot.

jessing777: I ordered takeout about an hour ago. The phone was busy so I went in and ordered in person. I sat at the bar and had a beer while waiting on my order. They said it would take 15 to 20 minutes. I waited 40, no problem they were busy. I am staying at hotel across the street got to my room. The food was cold and old like it had been sitting there for quite a while. There was hardly any chicken whatsoever in the enchiladas. It’s was gross. I travel a lot. The quality of restaurants have just in general gone down. I will never return. Don’t waste your money especially on take out.
Barb Beezley: The food is the closest thing to being in Cozumel we've found in this area! Fresh, hot, amazing flavors! The service is perfect. The beans are yummy! Everything we've tried, so far, has been just delicious! The music, the decor, Everything! This place is so fun to go to! The warm salsa with chips, as well as the regular, is worth the trip! It's like going on vacation, even if you only have an hour!!

We got chicken fajitas to share, I can't eat green peppers and asked for none but wanted more onions. Asked for onions to be cooked well done. The order came out and there was a good amount of chicken but not double the onions and most of the ones we got were burnt black. We also got an order of ground beef chili rellano. When we got home with that order it was chicken rellano which the person that ordered can't eat chicken. Chips were hot and fresh as was the sauce.

Adam Russell: Quality of food has gone way down. Service was good. I went on Friday 11/11 for lunch, ordered a chicken and beef enchilada with rice. The chicken enchilada was not warm at all and it was hard inside. The rice was not fresh, with in 30 minutes of eating I was sick to my stomach and needed bathroom asap. I will not be back. I use to go here all the time.

Emily Matney: We had the Baja and a taco salad. Both were spectacular. What stood out the most for my fiance and me was our server, Kevin. Kevin made sure our drinks were filled, he was so incredibly helpful with suggestions and recommendations, and just all around super hospitable and accommodating. Got the #3 and couldn’t take a second bite of a taco and wouldn’t even try the enchilada. Literally rubber rolled up filled with barely any meat and slopped on some weird sauce. Justin Murphy: A few coworkers and I were looking for a good spot to eat lunch and settled on El Puente. We were seated very quickly and the service was pretty good. All of our dishes were tasty and up to par, and the vibes were exactly as expected for a Mexican restaurant. It wasn’t anything really amazing or out of the ordinary, but definitely a solid spot. I would come here again, for sure.

Tom T.: Margaritas were decent but small. T-bone steak was very thin and way over cooked, however the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Chimichanga was tiny compared to other restaurants in the SGF area. Guacamole was more crushed avocado as it was bland with no seasoning or diced vegetables. The server was very nice but was a "ghost" after serving our food. I expected more from this establishment being on Republic Rd. With the quantity of Mexican style restaurants in the area, this one was very dismal.

Brandon Lauthern: I hate having to change my review, but tonight was an opinion-changing experience. I ordered the El Puente Fajitas. Everyone else's food came out fairly quickly, as did my beans, rice, and guacamole plate. Everyone else was nearly finished with their meal before my fajita meat even got to the table. By then, my beans and rice were cold and Everyone just sat and waited for me to finish. I ordered corn tortillas, and the waiter brought flour tortillas. That wasn't the worst of it though. The El Puente Fajitas comes with shrimp, chicken, pork, and beef. As I hurriedly ate my meal, I realized that the pork was not only rubbery but . . . It had bones in it. When I brought this to the attention of our waiter, he simply stated that "those were ribs" and that's "how the pork comes". In a fajita!?! Yeah, I probably won't be back.If you eat here, chew your food thoroughly, folks.

Mary Newton: I read some of the other reviews of the Purple Burrito, and all I can think is that if you’re looking for Tex-Mex 🤮 DON’T come here! Thank GOODNESS this restaurant exists! When they say it’s real Southern California Mexican food, they mean it! Everything I’ve eaten here is delicious and perfectly served. Fresh and flavorful. We live in Arkansas, and tell all of our friends who come to visit that they should fly into Springfield, just so we can eat here. The carne asada burrito and rolled tacos are perfect, every time. Served with a smile. Can’t wait to come back again!
Mason Berry: This place was a happy accident. Was getting gas next door and figured I'd check it out and I'm glad I did. Not only was the food out of this world as soon as I walked in the guy at the register started cutting up with us and joking. I felt like I was family just swinging by to chat. I had never tried a Mexican coke and the guy (I wish I got his name for next time) got me a coke and let me try a few other Mexican drinks. I can't say enough good things about this place. Some of the best places are happy accidents and this was definitely one of them!!! brokencc84: Food was pretty good. I really enjoyed the fish tacos. They were full of flavor and we're good size. I also had a cheese quesadilla and it was cooked just how I like it. Golden brown and stuffed full of melted cheese. The lobby was a little on the dirty side and the staff was kind of short and seemed to have a bit of an attitude. Overall I would eat here again.

Donald Frailey: The brightly colored Mexican restaurant has the best enchilada style burritos I have ever had. They come out on two plates. DO NOT TOUCH THE TOP PLATE! It is incredibly hot. But it makes the food so worth it. I did have them add some jalapeños to increase the heat! This is some of the best Mexican food I have had in Springfield.On other trips I got their tacos they are really good. But recently I have landed on the magnificent enchilada burrito!The chips are kind of thick but the salsas are good. The hot version is truly spicy. I enjoy them most combined.

The background story is awesome to learn about, and they have the most nostalgic feel with little tiny juke boxes at each table.Second, I ordered their chicken quesadillas and omg the chicken was so flavorful, so tender and juicy, I could eat them until I'm blue in the face.Their salsa choices are all amazing from sweet to super hot, and the white queso tastes so fresh and homemade.Prices were great. Service was superb.

Triss Hill: I went here tempted by reviews against my better judgement as the lot is always empty.I walked in at 1pm on a Saturday and there was not only no one at the counter, all of the chairs were up on the table from the previous night, the bar shown in some of the pictures wasn't even put together and the place was deserted. It also looked unclean in general. I turned and walked out as someone yelled across from the other side of the building "Be right there!". I left as it just all together gave me a bad feeling.
