There wasn't a straight post, railing or floor board on the deck. They wrapped treated wood with aluminum. Incompetence at its finest from both STL Design and Build and their subcontractor. Would I recommend? Absolutely not!!! Artistic Decks fixed our deck and its beautiful, sad we didn't find them first, strongly recommend Artistic Decks for any deck projects. First Mark came to our home and listened to our ideas and gave his input on what would work best for us. Next we went to their showroom to choose our materials, decking, rails etc.at the showroom there are pictures of projects they have completed and also completed samples that helped us imagine what our project may look like. They draw up our plans and made sure we were on the same page making sure we understood everything they had planned and that they knew exactly what we wanted.When our project was ready to begin we received a phone call giving us a start date, a time the crew would show and the names of our crew. On that day at the time they said they would be there the crew arrived. We had Mike and Joel with Kevin joining the team as the project advanced.These young men were wonderful. They were reliable, always on time, they were friendly, their workmanship was exceptional, they took the time to explain things that we may have questions about. If for some reason one would have to leave early or was not going to be there they took the time to explain why. They were truly nice to have at our home.Our deck is now complete and decorated. We enjoy relaxing and admiring it. We also smile and talk about the process and how fun it was, which is probably the most impressive part, because a project this large you may think there would have been some bump in the road but there was not. Then Mark stopped by my house the next day. He refined original sketch and had very nice suggestions for added interest such as bringing out railing like bay window shape. The bid was very specific and reasonable, and when the workmen come that is when I really knew how fantastic this company was. They were efficient, timely, neat, quiet (no blaring radios), courteous..an absolute pleasure to have around. What a first class experience this was from start to finish!!! Jerry Eddens: California decks rebuilt my cedar deck, removing all except the posts and joists. They then installed the decking, stairs and railings. When Mark reviewed the old deck, he suggested I add a "picture frame" which was 2 boards wide all around the deck floor, which allowed all the rest of the deck boards to be full length of 20 feet, with NO joints. The new step construction is more rigid and sturdy than my old steps, and the handrail they added is very helpful.Their installation personnel were hard working, courteous, concerned with quality, and very friendly. I can highly recommend California Decks for their value, quality and it was a pleasure dealing with them.

Al Knauber: I called Outdoor Living Inc. to see if someone there could assist me with information. I spoke with Blake who, knowing that no sale would result for Outdoor Living from the time he would invest in me, solved my problem. I needed to be able to identify the manufacturer of the wire railing system on my deck so I could order new parts. Without these parts, I would be facing a far more costly project. Blake asked that I send him photos of the railing system and advised me later that same day of the information I so desperately needed. Heaghney claimed tsome BS hat they were $150 each and that he was giving me a 10% discount. . It's simple math and it still didn't add up. I would seriously consider the place right across the street; Wholesale Siding Depot. They carry same stuff and a lot more professional.

I contracted outdoor livings solutions with Rick Miller to build a deck, patio and fence. My wife and I were very excited to have this project completed. We live in a new home that has a wooded bluff in the back. We are worried about our very young children and our dog somehow venturing out there and getting hurt. Rick assured me that our fence project would start in February, maybe even January if everything went smooth and weather cooperated. Fast forward almost 6 months, they've almost completed my deck. They refuse to do the promised finishing touches up to their standards. They have no timetable to finish the concrete pad and now tell me their fence crew is 4 months out. This is after telling me my project would start next week for several months. Upon telling Rick this was unacceptable, he flew off the handle using every profanity there is and even threatening physical violence. His daughter Lacey works for them. Her attempts to change the subject to make things personal and fabricate conversations are pathetic. If you want to wait more than a year, overpay, have a bunch of workers who smoke, drink and potentially use drugs on the job, have them wreck your yard and leave a huge mess hire this company. If not, feel welcome to contact me. I found another company to do better work and they completed the job in less than a week.

They are a reputable, honest company and they are here for you even after they have completed your project. I had to call Dave a couple of times since they built the deck to ask questions (about pouring a patio under the deck, etc.) and he always gets back to me within an hour. I called them a month or so ago because I noticed some water getting in to the basement, I called Dave and he sent Darren out to take a look. He looked around to explore the water issue, agreed to take care of it and while he was here he noticed some white deck railing pieces were just starting to turn off white. Even though it has been a few years since they built the deck, they sent out a crew a couple of weeks later and completely fixed everything! They are great to deal with, their prices are competitive and they absolutely stand by their product!

Julia Pagano: We had nothing but bad experiences with this company. It took them more than 10 weeks to start our deck and we were promised less than 8 weeks. Our deck was torn down 3 weeks before construction started because the contractor did not check that the correct materials had arrived, and that left our back door completely unusable and was a HUGE inconvenience with our three dogs. After weeks of calling and getting nothing but excuses, we went on vacation and were promised a completed deck upon return. We returned to a partially complete deck that was missing one very important item: STAIRS. Our dog and my sister nearly fell through the decking where the stair platforms should have been. It took another week to get the stairs installed. We called the contractor back out to address some quality issues we had with various parts of the deck and we were assured that it was safe. Nearly 3 months after completion, we discover they never had the deck inspected. We had to scheduled the inspection ourselves and the deck failed the inspection.On top of all of that, they left piles of wet concrete to dry on our driveway and now have several bumps in an otherwise spotless driveway. We will be doing everything we can to get them to resolve these issues for free. Their prices are low for a reason. Do not trust them.

They explained the various options and helped us in picking the best material that met our requirement. They kept me up to date on the permit processing and status and completed the project on time. kevin brennan: They offered a decent price for the project, but overall we were frustrated throughout the project. The project was a remodel of back porch. We had a difficult time finding a contractor that would perform this project b/c it had some additional complexities beyond a simple resurfacing. And as far as the biggest parts of the job, we were satisfied. But the project went from an estimated 3 days to not being completed for 3 months. Additionally, there were several cosmetic and touch up things that were incomplete. All of the posts that were removed, replaced, or impacted by the project were not repainted, this included a few pieces that were replaced and we were left with just the bare wood unpainted... All of the saw dust and stacks of debris from the project were left over. Essentially, the issues boiled down to a very informal style of the company throughout the project. We signed a contract with the company and they paid another contractor to do the work, we didn't have any problem with the individuals. The contractor did good work, and was very nice. But we expected follow-up from the company and a quality assurance check at the end of the project. Even after I requested these things b/c the project was stalled for several months, there was never a follow-up. This would have been when I would have showed them the things that needed to be completed and they could've just finished the project 100% instead of 90% completed, and I would've given them 4-5 stars. The contractor had a serious flu during the project and there was snow on some of the days, this was not his fault and some of delays were not the company's fault. But when several weeks and eventually months went by and we never heard from intelligent exteriors, we became frustrated. They basically acted like it wasn't there project b/c another contractor was doing the work. Most frustrating of all is that I specifically asked them to do reach out to us during and at the end of the project since I hadn't talked to them in months, and they never did follow-up.

We came to an agreement and the job was scheduled. I had an unexpected monetary problem come up and when calling Mike, the company rep, he was very understanding. We rescheduled and the installers came out on time. Very friendly, professional, and after the guys left, I couldn't tell they were even there.
