H. T.: This is a quaint little shop that we are so happy we stumbled upon. We have liked everything we tried and the owner is so very nice. There are a lot of varieties and there have been different choices each time we have gone. We've had the brownies, chocolate chip cookies, coffee cake, croissants, scones and they we all delightful. My favorite is the "shoe bun" (pictured by itself on the white plate) I had never tried one before and it's so delicious. It is now an all-time-favorite chocolate dessert of mine. I will reccomend this place to anyone who asks! She does custom cakes and cupcakes as well. Stop by or you're missing out!

Kim: I could only give it one star to post the review. Honestly it doesn’t deserve one star. I was truly disappointed. The cake I ordered was $92.00 and it tasted old and there was an odd taste in the frosting. It was supposed to have lemon filling but I couldn’t taste or see the filling. My granddaughter loves the iced coffee and biscuits and gravy. We both love the breakfast sandwiches. My granddaughter buys a sack of cookies everytime we leave to take to school and she says they are very delicious. It s our go to place. It s also quiet so you can have a conversation in a quiet space. We are regulars and will continue to be.

Anamilet Saenz: This past weekend I ordered two cakes for my son and daughter's birthday party. Both cakes came out better than expected and were so delicious! The Black Panther cake was chocolate with mocha filling and the Minnie Mouse cake was tres leches with strawberry filling. They were both so good but the tres leches was my favorite. All my party guests complimented the cakes. This was my first time ordering a cake from here. I was nervous how they would come out but they exceeded my expectations. Tom Shoemaker: Donuts were amazing, I had a cherry filled and the cherry flavor was intense, the donut not overly sweet or greasy...perfect!The inside could use some straightening, no real place to sit but the unlike some of the other reviews, our server was really nice and outgoing. We felt very welcomed.
Elizabeth Howard: I haven't visited Poppys in years but I decided to make the drive over there this weekend because donuts sounded good to everyone and I remembered how good they were. I pulled up to the front and thought they might be closed because there were piles of clutter everywhere in the old eat in area. The sign said open so I went in. The lady at the counter didn't seem to friendly. I asked her a few questions and got terse answers (felt as if I must be bothering her) so I quickly ordered a half dozen glazed and 2 specialty donuts. This was a little over 13 dollars. A little steep i think but donuts are getting really expensive everywhere. The donuts were good though. If I lived closer I'd go back but I probably won't drive clear across town for them again.
Dana Benedict: Poppy's is our family favorite, and always will be!! Some donut shops in the area tend to be too sweet for my taste, but Poppy's donuts are perfectly delicious each and every time. If you're in the Independence area and haven't tried them, you're missing out!!

Pat Kaler: Best donuts in the Kansas City area hands down. I drive over an hour to get these delicious donuts. Never once had an issue with anyone working behind the counter being rude or unfriendly. I've been going to this establishment weekly for over 5 years now. Make sure to bring cash, they don't accept debit or credit due to the outrageous fees associated with processing credit cards.

John Thottungal: It had been a long day of apartment hunting, excel worksheets and practice questions. The landlord called saying that a 2pm showing was possible and off I went. After seeing the apartment, the office manager was showing the Englewoods arts district and she mentioned that the best coffee cake she had ever tried was next door. I looked at her with a whiskical look and wondered if that was part of the pitch. I was wrong, she was being honest. I thanked her and decided to fo take a look. The recipe apparently was given to the owner by her mother and I figured thatis obviously a likely story. I opted to try the original version they started with, a cinnamon streusel and it was 6 dollars there was a two person piece. I am not a fan of sweets and i figured it would take me couple of days to finish it.I got in the car and took a bite and I forgot to turn the car on, sat there in the cold and ate half the cake. It melted in my mouth, soft, moist and filled with subtle hints of cinnamon and brown sugar in every bite. I have tried store bought versions and freshly baked ones before sparingly but none of them came close enough to make me write this review. This cake is pure poetry of sweetness.If you are coming to Kansas city, Missouri or KC MO as they call it here, take a 5 mile road trip to Independence Missouri and you may be justified in feeling what I felt at that moment- let's move to Independence, Missouri.

While at the Overland park farmers market, I was overcome with that sweet smell of baked goods, and I was hooked before I even took a bite! I asked the kind human behind the counter which was her favorite, and she recommended all of them, but said the lemon raspberry was one of her favorites! So of course we obliged and bought one, and a traditional coffee cake.But let me tell you there is nothing "traditional" about their traditional coffee cakes. They are so soft and velvety. It melts in your mouth, and is jam packed with all those perfect coffee cake flavors, times 100. This is not like the coffee cake I grew up with, it's so much better. (Sorry granny and mom)Lemon raspberry!!! Ahhhh! Literally the best coffee cake I've ever had! The lemon flavor was tart and bright, and the raspberry filling (the center layer) was creamy sweet and fruity.It was soft and velvety as well. And had a beautiful crumble top! Lemon and raspberry is the perfect combination, and was an awesome treat for these hot summer days!We will be back, and will be trying all the amazing flavors!
Yo mama: Oh my goodness these coffee cakes are divine. There are so many flavors that it is hard to choose. My first trip there, meaning it won't be my last, I tried toffee crunch, vanilla chocolate chip cheesecake, lemon blueberry, and toasted coconut. All of them are delicious in their own way! One of the owners was there and was so kind and has the place decorated super cute! I look forward to going back! They are also at the OPKS Farmers market on Saturdays.

From birthday cakes for family, yum bars that even non-cake fans rave about, cake pops for a bite sized treat, to cupcakes for staff after a hospitalization she’s always come through with sweets that delight the tongue. I’d give more stars if I could!
Madeleine Orpin: I was incredibly disappointed when I received my order. I requested custom cocoa bombs with initials and decorations on each, we had decided on using sanding sugar to make the initials pop and it was an additional cost but no big deal. When I received my items they had none of the original decorations from the pictures she sent, they only had initials and were done in silver edible pen, not sanding sugar, also very poorly written. I called and she replaced the order but very rudely stated that she normally charges a fee for replacements despite it being her error, not sticking with the original design AT ALL or even consulting with me before she made what she referred to as “an executive decision”. I was again terribly disappointed by the second order and the slapdash job she did on the initials. This wasn’t a last minute order and she had plenty of time to complete it with more thoughtfulness to the design.
Vicki Fugate: The cake for my daughter’s special day was perfect. It was exactly what my daughter wanted. I would recommend Yummies by Yoka any day. The cake was beautiful, moist and delicious.
M B: I ordered a cake about a month and a half in advance as a gift for my boyfriend. Everything went smoothly, but once I got the cake, I was dissatisfied. I felt as if the main design on the cake was rushed (see photos). The main design’s frosting was messy and it made the end look appear unprofessional. I messaged the owner, looking for some compensation, and at first she offered me 10% off of my next order with them… Then, she decided to refund me $10 (the tip I gave) which I am grateful for, but didn’t do so without saying that it “goes against policies”. That left a bad taste in my mouth. The next day, I was sent an invoice saying that I had $13 left to pay for the cake; I emailed the company back, asking if it was a mistake, and they have ignored the email since. Ultimately, I would not have ordered from this bakery if I had seen a review or photos like this.
