High Performance Wrestling & Athletics: what do users think?
Shauna Mamma: I cannot say enough about HPWA! Not only is Roy an amazing person who has a genuine love for all of the kids that comes in, he supports all of the athletes and has their best interest at heart. I’ve known Roy for quite some time now. He is very passionate about taking his athletes to the next level. There is no other program that can offer this level at no charge! My daughter is currently a 19 time national wrestling champion and is now a jr coach for the novice wrestlers. Her father is absent in her life and Roy has stepped up and helped fill that roll. He is not just her coach but her coach dad.😂We are so lucky to have found this program when we did.
Noah Farrales: I was introduced to this program by a friend of mine a long time ago. While we were at Drury University training before our season started, he pointed at the stands and said “you see that guy right there? You should train with him because he will make you a better wrestler and athlete. I guarantee you that.” The man up in the stands was no other than Coach Roy Koyama himself. He greeted me with kind, love, and tremendous hardcore training I must say, it helped a lot my junior and senior year. I would definitely recommend anyone at any level of athleticism, because he will push you to become successful not just on the mats, but later in life.“Hard-work beats talent, while talent doesn’t work hard.”He also helped me reached out to multiple college coaches. Not only got my name known, but four former HPWA wrestlers got recognize by their talents. The point is that he got connections now.
Wendy Riley-Washington: Undoubtedly, the best wrestling faculty I’ve ever been to. From nutrition plan to mindset strengthening, the coaches go above and beyond to help each individual wrestler to meet their own needs to achieve great success. They treat everyone like family and welcome anyone with open arms. The growth people have experienced here is unimaginable and unmatched to any other organization. If your in Springfield, I highly recommend you come check it out! You wouldn’t want to miss out on this phenomenal opportunity!
Paul Ebisch: HPWA has been a great source of development for my son’s wrestling skills and growth. He has made great friendships and grown as a leader. Coach Roy works his hard to help the kids all the time.
Colman Ebisch: Great wrestling club for all ages and athletes. It had gave me to compete and train at a much higher level
Rhys Koyama: I’ve seen the birth of this program and the amount it’s changed is insane. It’s grew so much and changed lives. I’m glad to say that I’ve been here since the beginning. Highly recommend this club for Wrestlers or people who want to get into wrestling.
Jaxon Glenn: Best place ever. It changed my life.

Springfield Fight Club: what do users think?
ZiplocWonder TheMiraculousPlatypus: Absolutely outstanding. Both the Instructors/Coaches, members, everything.
Jessey Mook: I have really enjoyed training here at SFC. Having class at 5am has been super helpful getting in training time before work every day. Great place and great people.
Mars: Great place to train, get in shape, and meet like minded individuals.
Micah Young: I joined fight club just to get a good workout in. Quickly I realized the positive impact it was making on my physically & mentally. I found a new confidence in myself that has translated on & off the mat! The coaches & students are so welcoming & make the gym feel like a second home. You won’t regret joining the SFC family 👊🏻
Jesse Owsley: Springfield Fight Club (SFC) is absolutely top notch and I recommend unreservedly to my friends and anyone who trains martial arts. The coaches are outstandingly good, and the atmosphere is supportive and challenging. I've been training here for a year and a half and plan to continue indefinitely.
Ryan Culbertson-Faegre: This is my favorite place in the world. Great vibes, instant martial art nerd friends, and great instruction from coaches who follow modern Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.They offer a free trial week for new students, and Sunday open mats are always free and open to the public. Come try it out!
1Time: I’ve been going to SFC for a handful of months now. Not only do I see many of the same faces from class to class, I see those same faces helping new faces learn fundamentals. SFC is such a welcoming home for those who are either looking to train professionally or to simply have an outlet in life. This will be the place to be for years to come. Come make some new friends and learn a thing or two about self defense!
Nick Johnson: This place is special. I’ve been to many academy’s or MMA gyms in general all over the country and this is a top notch school. All of the instructors are amazing and back it up with incredible skills to match their philosophies. They know how to structure their classes and sparring in general so minimal injures happen. Ton of positive energy and hard work will be had in this place. Recommend to any age, weight, size, or experience level!
Grant Zykan: Been a student at SFC for a year. Every coach cares about every student, and their improvement. The gym is full of great people who are family. For self defense, exercise, or fighting, Springfield Fight Club is the best in the 417.
Trey Brewer: Not one bad roll. Great people
Darth Wang: Nice guys, well. For fighters lol you will have fun here!
Andrea A: I've been a student at SFC for 3 years now. They're experienced, professional, fun, and very good at teaching. They have a ton of class times and several qualified coaches. The professors are well versed, but know how to make it graspable for beginners. The amount of coaches there allows people at all levels to get one on one details of what is being taught. I highly recommend Springfield Fight Club for the competitor, families, someone just looking for a cool hobby, and people who just want to come to work on their fitness. SFC has something for everyone.
Chelsey Gardner: So I'm am completely new to the world of jujitsu and kickboxing, but the staff was super helpful and more than willing to work with you. They were very patient and willing to show me things as many times as I needed. Everyone in the class was super encouraging and friendly! By the time I left I had the impression that everyone in that building just wants to help you be the best you possible. I can't wait to go back tonight!
Sherrie Birkinbine: As a female with no martial arts background, I felt immediately welcomed. Those who train here have varying levels of motivation: MMA/BJJ enthusiasts, trained fighters, or just learning self defense with a great kickboxing workout. Everyone is very respectful and the community dynamic is really quite moving. The coaches have a heart to help everyone at each level.
Nate Peters: I’ve been training with SFC since 2009 and can say that it truly is an incredible place! It has a great atmosphere that is welcoming to beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. There’s a great sense of community and it doesn’t take long for people new to the gym to feel like they belong to something! I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to train in martial arts whether it be for fitness, self-defense or competitive purposes!
Breno Viani: Best place in town to train brazilian jiu jitsu! I looked into other gyms before coming to SFC, and after training there I felt at home. They are one big family. I have been training there for over a year now and hate it when I miss one day of training.
James Lowery: Great place to train!! Coaches are very knowledgeable and helpful regardless of experience level. I made the choice to try it 2.5 years ago and it has been a great choice!
Michael Miller: This is hands down, the best place to train in southwest Missouri. Top notch instruction and great people. You’ll feel welcome from the moment you walk in. Very professional facility with a variety of classes and class times to fit your needs! If you want to get in shape, be part of a big family, and learn to defend yourself, give Springfield Fight Club a try!
Nicolas Wilson: Great place to get into shape and learn self-defense. I was nervous coming here at first but the coaches and other people are easy to get along with and made the process pretty painless. It is a challenging and rewarding environment. I have had a couple of minor injuries that were outside the gym and haven't been super consistent but the payment process has worked around my situation. I recommend you take the first class and see if you enjoy it.
T.J. Morgan: The name of the gym might be off putting to the conservative type, or maybe invigorating to the aggressive, but take note: this place is quite special! From my experience here, everyone welcomes new folks and encourages them in their individual journeys into the combative world. Spend your time and money here...oh, and bring the kids too!
Wesley Biddinger: Is it american top team?

417 BJJ: what do users think?
Mallory Highfill: Glenn is one of the most kind hearted people I know! He’s great at making everyone comfortable and his passion truly is helping everyone, over just making money like a lot of gyms are!
Sophia Reinhard: Glenn is an amazing teacher! My roommate and I are taking the women’s self defense class and we love it and the instruction we receive. I would recommend this gym to anyone!
Evan Penticuff: Affordable and valuble training. Excellent instructors
Kevin Reinhard: I started learning BJJ from Glenn when I was almost 50. I turn 53 in less than a month. I have no background in wrestling or BJJ or fighting. I was never very athletic and have never been on any type of sports team. I don’t particularly like watching fighting and I don’t follow MMA. The reason I started going to Glenn’s gym was to learn to effectively defend myself. I was attacked at work by a much larger and younger man. I am 5’7” and was 175 pounds at the time. He was 6’5” and 315 pounds. I wasn’t hurt due to God’s Grace and the great security team at my place of business, but I very easily could have been. I wanted to be able to defend myself and my family effectively. Most people advise that you just carry a gun to defend yourself but where I was attacked it is illegal to carry a gun and I did not have a gun on me at that time. If you do defend yourself with a gun you may end up in jail, even for a short time, even if you are in the right, and of course you will not have a gun then. In any event, I decided that it would be great to be able to defend myself effectively if unarmed. I love BJJ and I particularly love learning at Glenn’s gym. Glenn is the main instructor for all white belt classes as well as for the lady’s self-defense classes. There are many nuances and subtleties to BJJ. It is best to learn from the highest belt you can. A black belt is teaching the fundamentals to beginning students at Glenn’s gym! That is highly valuable and rare.Glenn and Hamar, the two black belts, as well as Dan, a brown belt, and Brian, a purple belt who teaches the morning classes at the gym, have worked or continue to work in law enforcement. Glenn and Hamar have worked as correction officers. They all have real life experiences using BJJ on the street, or in the jail. Also, they have all competed, and won, in BJJ.Glenn started out in wrestling at age 5. He then started studying Judo. He then went into boxing, and BJJ. He holds black belts in BJJ, Judo, and 2 styles of Wing Chun, and holds an instructor’s certificate in Kali (Filipino Stick fighting). Glenn has spent almost his entire life studying fighting in one form or another and then putting it into practice either in tournaments or in real, potentially life threatening, circumstances. I am now the beneficiary of that pursuit. I can learn from someone who has devoted himself to studying fighting for over 40 years. He knows what works in tournaments and in real life situations, and what doesn’t.The environment at the gym is one of teaching and learning in a safe and encouraging environment. Each person is trying to help the others get better. I am surrounded by people at the gym who have fought in the ring in BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai, and MMA who also love to teach and want me to get better. There is a real feeling of camaraderie and friendship at the gym. Everyone is very encouraging and there is an atmosphere of collegiality and competitive cooperation. While everyone there is working hard and trying to do the best they can, no one is trying to hurt anyone. Everyone has to get up for work the next day.Whether you are athletic or not. Whether you are older or younger. If you are interested in BJJ, Boxing, MMA or Kali. If you want to learn self-defense, compete in tournaments, or just want a fun way to get in shape and lose weight, 417 BJJ is the place for you.KR
Grace Reinhard: Loved the women’s self defense and kali (stick and knife fighting) class! Patient instructors, very knowledgeable, great place to workout!
Anna Carlton: Glenn is a wonderful instructor! He’s very knowledgeable and skilled in his field, and incredibly patient who people who are learning. 427 BJJ gym has a very welcoming atmosphere and I’ve enjoyed my sessions there
Jonathan McBain: Absolutely the best place to get a good workout in and learn a valuable skill. Be ready to be humbled and learn.
Carson F: Tight knit and skillful team, fitness equipment and great price!
Samantha Brown: Best gym I've ever been to. Amazing with kiddos and amazing to the parents. Everyone's a big family. Glenn is amazing!
Half Sumo: Amazing place! Family!
Jerrod W: Better than the last time i wrestled in 4th grade when this kid sat on my head
Duke Carlton: I recently attended 417 BJJ for the Gun and Knife Self Defense Workshop with my future in laws that go regularly. I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but I’m so glad I went. It might be a personal preference but as a person who is a beginner I never felt I was being sold anything or physically injured with the techniques that you practice. The owner of the gym Glenn has a great sense of humor and loves telling stories from his life experience as a prison guard/army/etc, they are both interesting and applicable. He is very concerned with keeping things safe and practical. He loves to take random questions and expand on the subjects and scenarios, which helps create the extra layer of comfortability for people who want to be a part of something. If you do go to one of their workshops, I would recommend bringing someone on your skill level to practice with that you can be comfortable with learning the techniques. And the workshop included a rubber gun and knife to practice at home, it was like Christmas!
Zack Reynolds: Awesome coach and most affordable place in town. The coach is super by the book, focuses a ton on the fundamentals, and is great with kids. Best BJJ/boxing gym in town.
Bart Cardetti: The coach (and upper belts) are technically skilled, great to work with, and have created a fantastic environment to help people grow as martial artists. The curriculum offered is very complete (BJJ, Boxing, etc.) and has something to offer for everyone from aging martial arts nerds (like me), to women seeking self defense options, to young kids learning discipline and personal safety, to serious competitors.
༒ Zack T༒: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
Jerry The Lobster: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityVery professional in terms of communication and teaching ability. The boxing is very structured and basic to follow but is very effective in terms of building skill and efficacy in your boxing ability. Very accessible for beginners and intricately developed for more advanced boxers.
Valerie Reddish: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThey’re great instructors and extremely welcoming and flexible! I’m 25 and can bring my kids with me, can join them on the mat if they need help. Very fun place!
Mishy Rosselle: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThus far our first time here has been so welcoming. The staff answered all the questions I had and were so kind. They truly run there establishment out of passion and it reflects in their teachings with their students. They truly want their students to succeed. Highly recommend for adults and children.
Richard Rangel: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,ValueThe instructors and environment are great to learn and still be safe doing it. Glenn the main coach really has put so much work into learning what works and it definitely shows. If you want it - this guy will get you there!
M Hartman: My kids have been going to classes here for over 6 months. Neil is a great teacher and Austin steps up and assists when he is needed (as an instructor or to help Neil teach a new move). The kids look forward to classes and usually want to go early and stay late. While my kids are learning the basic moves each week, it is great to watch the advanced students drilling off to the side before their class starts. I wish I had done something like this when I was a kid but I am glad I am able to send my kids and get them interested in BJJ.
Cliff Brookshier: Amazing place to train! Glenn is insanely knowledgeable and comes from a background of decades of experience. He is easy-going and explains things in a easy to understand way. The gym is always super welcoming and fun.

THRIVE Martial Arts: what do users think?
Alisha Grace: I need to brag on my bugs karate progress for a moment! She is doing so well and and learning so much so fast. Any opportunity she gets to brag on herself or show people what she knows she takes it. She has been trying so hard. She pays attention and is focused (most of the time. She's a kid lol) she gets excited to go to her classes and gets upset when she misses one. Im so proud of how she's doing and wanting to stay with it. She tests for a new belt at the end of March (yellow belt) and we couldn't be more excited for her. All of this is because of her awesome teachers and helpers at Thrive Martial Arts. They not only push them but they make it fun.
Amber Galindo: My daughter has been going here for the past three years and has no desire to quit. Thanks to the wonderful people here, she now has a “go get ‘em” mentality, looks forward to every challenge, and she aspires to be a sansei of her own school some day. I love the leadership they are teaching her and the confidence she continues to build. Her younger brother even had his birthday party here, and it was a ton of fun! Highly recommend it here!
Chloe F. Baby: Great place to build character and self esteem!
debra buckner: My Grandson attended this schools 4 years ago when it was k 5.0 academy of martial arts . The first 2 years were good then it just went down hill I put alot of money and my grandson put alot of hard work and years into this school which basically turned into a preschool ,he was constantly held back or test put off because of the ones who didnt practice.after struggling the last year over what to do as my grandson was starting to lose his passion and being kept stagment we decided to take a loss of those years and try find another dojo.when I informed Mr.Lane he started accusing me of taking bribes from other instructors to leave it was very disturbing. I told my grandson if he started getting angry to film it as I had witnessed his temper before he had lost his temper before in front of kids and parents before .I started questioning him being a role model. when he saw he was being recorded he cussed at us told us to leave and never step foot on his property again. That was uncalled for and as a martial artist he should have wished Seth well with his future.I can only hope Thrive is better than he ran k 5.0 but I saw a old review that is still up of mine and want everyone to know it was old review and not meant for his new Thrive Martial arts as I cant give a review for a place I've never attended.
Avante Frasier: While we did go to K5, we never attended their new business called Thrive, so the review from past is not accurate. the first year of K5 was great, however, the morals and policy kept changing constantly to accommodate a few parents that wanted their kids to belt up even when they did not practice like others or learn the material. Parents complained, all kids gets to belt up, regardless. Not fair to the few that really studied and practiced.. when the instructor loses the will and passion to be there and teach, the students no longer want to attend or care either. The best thing about K5 in the end, the few friendships we made and bonds some of our kids formed. Not too mention being pushed to buy the Nary Kay products and always nickel and diming you for everything. We also did not like the required missions that were started after we had been already going there. The kids spent too much time doing homework and chores and not enough Kenpo. We paid for them to learn the Kenpo not “how to be polite and do chores” some of us already have children that are well behaved and disciplined, I did not need to pay $179 Monthly to spend 6-8 hrs of physical writing homework when he had 4-5 daily from school. It took the fun and interest away from them. Hopefully with the new business they have learned but from the looks of this. I don’t think so. We were also supposed to have a great elite 10person bushido team, parents and other students got offended so we kept being charged monthly for the group we were chosen for, but learned absolutely nothing. Lots of promises made to our kids, but none kept. One of the required missions was to give a 5* start review, required for belt testing. Very disappointed in the end.
Jennifer Heinrichs: My kids absolutely loved it. $42 for 2 weeks, 1 time a week, up to 15 to 45 minutes. Kids earned karate outfits and boards after second time, they are so proud of themselves.. but I truly wish we would afford $ for 3 children to keep going but the problem is contract for 12 month and $407 a month for THREE kids with family discount. That stopped everything for us... I love those people, they are absolutely amazing people. Truly wish it's affordable place just like YMCA.
Jeff Jones: Fantastic! Kenpo 5.0 is a great system and very practical. The instructor and staff are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the martial arts.
Michelle Bowers: LOVE the people had a blast in the class and well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. Very willing to work with you even if you live quite a distance so you can still take classes.
Brooklynn Roberts: This was one of my favorite places I loved it and wish I didn't quit
Vince “CannaPLUS” Galindo: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMy daughter is a student here and she absolutely loves it. The Lanes are phenomenal people and they really are an extended family to us. My daughter is always excited about going to classes, she has fun, and her confidence is building every single day. My only regret is that we did not sign her up here sooner.
Jonathan Evans: Love the place my youngest boy start there from a group on and love it so much he has stayed with it and the instructor are very caring and respectful and highly trained in martial arts
Adam Boster: High quality instruction here at this long standing icon of professionalism! As a black belt I highly recommend learning from the leaders at this amazing school. The presence and sense of family in the middle of a motivating, disciplined environment makes this place a hidden gem. Be ready to learn some serious street smart skills here!!
Chris Westmoreland: Kiedis: "I love this place and Mr. Lane, Mrs. Lane and Miss Lydia are amazing. Mr. Lane is Oh Captain, my Captain!"This place has been a real blessing for my 5 year old. He loves it very much. One year ago he was shy and timid, but now he's got confidence and a no-quit attitude. I'm so very proud of the things he's done here and looking forward to the things ahead.
Travis Bradbury: Outstanding instructors and a very welcoming community.
Christina Pritchett: We have been apart of K5 for over a year now. My kiddo went from being afraid of riding the bus (due to bullies) to being confident enough TO ride the bus. Not only is his confidence growing but so is his self control! He has gained so much from the staff at K5! Every one of the staff memebers truly care about the kiddos and their families. They take the time to be invested in their lives. No matter what’s going on. I won’t take him anywhere else.
Beverly Tyler: The owners Mr and Mrs Lane take their job very seriously they go above and beyond for the children during a good safe place with constructive discipline
Melissa Vdl: We loved our experience at K5 Academy of Martial Arts on Sunshine. The Lane family is super kind, committed to their students' growth and success, awesome at training kids in respect and proper self-defense while NOT advocating fighting whatsoever. We didn't stay beyond the six-week promotion, but I would absolutely consider this being a regular part of my boys' education in the future. Highly recommended.
Xiaoning Hu: My son Jaden loves Mr. Lane, he’s the best in town. Absolutely amazing place and staff for kids!!
Emily Payne: A perfect mix of fun and discipline! My son has gained more than just knowledge of kenpo, he now has a strong male role model and confidence about handling real-life situations. Mr Lane's goals for the kids are attainable and achievements are highly celebrated. We consider the Lane's a part of our family!
Stacey Powell: Micah was 4 and Mr Lane's first student. He is now 9 and an Advanced Blue Belt. I am very thankful for all Mr Lane has done. Micah and Mr Lane have a special bond.
