Miriam L. Schroeder, MD: what do users think?
Sarah Gamblin: I am impressed by Dr. Schroeder's excellent patient care. She took the time to explain treatment options to me and we discussed any concerns I had. She is authentic and approaches patients with respect. I have never had a psychiatrist who was willing to develop a solid doctor-patient relationship. If you are wondering whether you should go through your insurance and see someone else or go ahead and pay out of pocket, I am telling you if you have the ability, pay out of pocket and see Dr. Schroeder. She is worth it and so are you!
Ashley Riegel: Dr Schroeder is a great Dr. She listens and you can tell she truly cares about her patients.
J. E. Bennett: This Doctor has helped our family more than she probably even knows and I am so grateful to her. She is a compassionate Doctor and with the transformation I have seen in my fiancé, it is a true testament to the work of this Doctor. My fiancé is excited about life, optimistic everyday, kind to absolutely everyone, and excited to interact with people. She is no longer going through the motions of everyday life with. She is actively engaging in her life. I don’t know how she does all that she does and she loves it. Her philosophy, that she reminds me and our family is, “Never give up.” My fiancé didn’t and I can’t help but think that it was because of the help, and most importantly to my fiancé, the Kindness, of her Doctor and I can’t not mention Alex. My fiancé says he’s just awesome in every way (and always makes her laugh).Laughing is definitely one of her favorite things to do.Thank you!Happy Holidays and Cheers to a New Year that will be here before we know it!
Bonnie Applewhite: Caring and knowledgeable doctor .
May May: I can't recommend Dr Schroeder enough. Previously I would have these major depressive episodes and my doctor told me to "keep my expectations reasonable. No medicine will work 100%". They were debilitating and I thought this was the best it was going to be. Eventually, I needed some adjusting. It took me quite a while to find anyone accepting new patients but I got in within a month with Dr Schroeder.I don't think Ive ever felt so well before. The cloud over my head is gone. The heaviness in my shoulders has been lifted. I feel like myself again. All thanks to this lovely lady.5stars 10/10Shout out to Alex, the receptionist. Always quick to respond, kind and exceptionally patient.
Erica Russell: I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Schroeder’s, having moved to St. Louis to be closer to family after working in LA for several years as a writer. I currently have no insurance, and no prior affiliations in this city. So honestly, I just got here and Googled different psychiatrists, picked one at random, and hoped for the best. I had no idea what to expect. But I have been so well-treated and pleasantly surprised by Dr. Schroeder that I felt compelled to say as much in a public forum, so that others might find the doc they deserve. On my initial appointment, Dr. Schroeder spent TWO HOURS with me. Two hours. I don’t need to tell you that that’s unheard of these days. And in subsequent appointments she spent a full hour. I mean, that’s truly exceptional, considering most psychiatrists spend about fifteen minutes per patient. And for once, in a psychiatrist’s office, I felt like a real human being with feelings instead of a cold, clinical cluster of symptoms. Dr. Schroeder genuinely listens. She’s genuinely sympathetic. She genuinely cares. You can't fake that, you know? And above all, I never once felt judged or anxious in her presence. Moreover, she discusses my medication options in such detail -- the therapeutic value, the neurochemistry involved, the potential side effects -- that I feel confident and informed about my treatment plan when I leave the office instead of anxious and clueless.Honestly, I’m battling the worst depressive episode of my life, and I finally feel like I’m starting to win. Thank you, Dr. Schroeder. I’m a big believer that people who go above and beyond deserve recognition. And to those reading this review, I believe in you, too. All my love and best wishes in finding the right doctor and the right treatment. You are not alone! 3
N T: Dr. Schroeder has been supremely important in helping me understand myself. Her medical background and fresh perspective were the key in realizing that my idiosyncrasies, though helpful, were exhausting coping tactics. Genuinely interested and curious, she searches for causes and solutions, avidly taking notes whenever possible. It's clear that Dr. Schroeder is fascinated by the human mind but she is also a very kind person. Kindness, above all.
Victoria Katherine: Holistic approach, in terms of the mind body connection. Listens attentively, and remembers key information and synthesizes that for a very personal experience. I felt listened to and genuinely cared for. 5 years trying different therapists and I can say she is one of the best.
Marmalade Cinderblock: After a couple of rough experiences trying to find a doctor; my appointment with Dr. Schroeder pretty much restored my faith in mental health care. Just talking with her (which she takes more time to do than I have ever experienced) actually made me start to feel human again. She is knowledgeable in a way where you can tell she pays attention to her patients and to the world. She's emotionally intelligent (which I feel is something bizarrely lacking in the field of psychiatry? Maybe from burnout?) and she works to help you. She doesn't rush you through. Dr. Schroeder respects people with special mental and emotional differences and needs, and that is a big deal, and a step in the right direction.

SLUCare Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience: what do users think?
Julia S: This is interesting. I worked for SSM women’s health for multiple years and suffered from debilitating postpartum insomnia and anxiety and couldn’t access any appropriate treatment through SSM or any other outlet in or around the Saint Louis area. This was over four years ago but I still find it very hard to believe that there are any resources or treatment plan options available for the majority or pregnant women in St. Louis. Hence why I left women’s health to seek a degree to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Shame on Missouri.
Jamie: I never write Google reviews, but this experience is so bad I had to.My PA, Sammi, was really great, until they replaced her without any warning, and casually let me know. I have honestly never met my actual doctor, and you should be prepared to do the same. The staff is nice, but be prepared to wait forever. I put in a refill for my prescription 5 days ago, and no one has even looked at the refill request. If you have controlled substances prescribed, STAY AWAY, you'll never get them on time. Save yourself the trouble and find someone else.
Hope Brown: They do not follow you very closely.
Kelly Williams: I am not a patient. My fiancée is. She was referred by her gyno who is NOT a Slu doctor and was seen quickly, and then given necessary prescriptions, followed up with in a timely matter and has been speaking regularly over video chat with an incredible PA who is kind, caring and making a huge difference. She has recommended helpful books and taken the time and care to work with my fiancée on getting the right meds and taking the proper steps for longer term mental health care. Very positive experience from our end, and I felt like that needed to be said after reading some of these reviews. A bad security guard doesn’t warrant a one-star for the entire establishment, nor does a lack of information or research. Absolutely would recommend giving this place a shot and have great things to say about Samantha Syrett.
Danny Smithson: From the second I walked into the building I was met with hatred from the security guard. I did everything he asked in a timely manner and he was still extremely rude to me. Then was the exact same way to my mother. I had zero issue with the actual doctors and nurses, they were very kind. I cannot understand how it is acceptable to have a security guard that rude when there was no reason to be met with that much hatred. From the instant I came in. SLU should not employ people that are that rude for no reason at all. It’s a shame because the doctors and nurses there were incredibly nice. It made the experience a negative when if the guard would have been kind the entire experience would have been great. A shame because of how wonderful the actual doctors and nurses were.
Melissa Young (Missey): I have mixed feelings. Pretty much I have found it helpful. But currently I am having huge issues. My Doctor is out and the Doctor covering for her and my chart has not been able to deal with my medication refill. I don’t know why it is so difficult. I even requested early because I knew it took the Doctor covering for her a while to fill it. So I have sent a zillion messages and called twice. I am actually in the middle of a life crisis and I would hate to be a person drowning in front of whoever is supposed to be helping me. Because I believe I would drowned. As I said up until this point and I have been going there for years as been positive. It’s just incredibly frustrating that something as easy as refilling a script seems to be so hard.
A B: Can't speak to the experience because we couldn't get an appointment. Important clarifying details that are not on the website: regardless of whether your insurance requires it, you must have a referral to be seen. They are not open to new patients otherwise. Furthermore, the referral apparently MUST be from a SLU physician -- if your PCP or recent hospital neurologist is of a different network (even one that doesn't have geri neuropsych providers), fresh out of luck. Was really hoping to get in with Dr. Grossberg because he has some publications relevant to my area of concern, but no dice.
Matra Kismet: Please don't. I would not want anyone to ever be treated as I have.Their practices are archaic, the staff struggles with communication and will cut you off, speak over you, hang up on you, and refuse to relay important information or address you with dignity and respect. The revolving doors see few to comfort and support, only exacerbating patient's existing concerns. My diagnosis was based on extremely dated curriculum. This school still teaches classes on how to abuse patients (ABA) and seems to be the only thing they are actually good at. Constantly consulting other doctors, no idea what to do with me, I asked "are you going to shuffle me somewhere else?" And they said "no. A month later, I was ignored completely. My questions left unanswered, feeling more than distraught over the months of confusion and trying to connect (switched doctors after first visit due to their residency program) and I was told I would be referred elsewhere, asked why, wanted another appointment to specificallyto discuss it, was refused the appointment because the office cannot make telehealth appointments at all without the doctor requesting it, and I could not contact the doctor at all anymore after the staff said "you are only allowed to send one question per week" (I asked the same unanswered questions 3x in all). I just wanted to understand why I was being referred elsewhere, after trying so hard to clearly express my needs (and that they weren't being met).I was defeated so completely by this experience, it took a while to even get the courage to write this.My partner called to try to make the appointment for me, since the staff refused to ever let me speak at all. After he called and left a message, I was never contacted again by them, there are no appointment requests, I have ultimately been "ghosted" by them.
Talia Mates: Horrible, Ive been a patient for over 3 years now , I had a resident Doctor who was extremely above and beyond wonderful, than everything changed once I got my new doctor, I've now had to go without controlled substance medication because they wouldn't respond to me, than treated me like a drug seeker when I was upset they let me run out and didnt help me or assure meI know how that sounds but I truly never had a problem until doctors changed, they leave snarky notes in your patient file that accuse you of things, and treat you poorly instead of doing their job to ensure you have enough medication they are giving youNo one responds to mychart anymore, Ive called patient complaints they said I could switch doctors, but in order to do that you have to actually get in touch with the office manage its been over a month of calling and she or he has yet to get back to me,Meanwhile Im stuck with negligent care I no longer trust,I am so disappointed in the "care" im receiving go elsewhere
Allyson Schoenberg: Got the required referral and called. First person I talked to saw all the referral information and registered me. Then sent my to the Psych scheduler, who cannot see the referral, and told me to call back. And was relatively rude and dismissive. As someone who struggles with daily tasks like making doctors appointments, this is a horrible way to get people the help they need. I will be searching for a different provider.
Maura Benson: Horrible scheduling team, last time I came I was late but there is a 15 minute grace period WHICH I MADE but was still turned away because I had to go through security. And because of that, and because I have to work in order to afford going here, I can’t get my meds until I make an appointment which I can’t because you guys are booked until October. You guys are holding me hostage of my medicine and putting my mental health at risk. I’ve had multiple OTP appointments but they refuse to do so now. ON TOP OF THAT, because I couldn’t make it to an appointment and had to reschedule (and asked for an OTP appt), they gave me a random day and time which did not work for me and said to take it or leave it. I’m furious that my mental health is not being taken seriously by the people who are supposed to help me. This is bullsh!t to say the least.
Jason Barton: I wanted to express my overwhelmingly positive experience w SLU's Psychiatry clinic.Profound barriers exist - mostly cost & access - to obtaining psychiatric services: e.g., BJC restricts access to its clinic to patients who were previously hospitalized there. Moreover, it's difficult to find private practitioners who accept new patients.Except for one brief consultation w a psychiatric resident w whom I felt little personal connection, all three of my other residents at SLU's clinic - Drs. Ko, Asamoah & Merin - have been uniformly excellent: deeply empathetic, able to establish a strong patient-doctor alliance, and well-versed in medication mgmt - three, equally-important, metrics that determine quality in psychiatric care.SLU's clinic provides critically-important access to psychiatric services in our community: a low-cost facility staffed by empathetic residents & supervisory faculty members. Its model is patient-directed rather than research-oriented. The quality of care I've obtained from SLU's clinic is equal to, if not better than, many of my experiences w private practitioners. I'm profoundly grateful for their services.
Lisa Graves: I had great experiences in the past but as of lately You don't know who is in charge.I've seen great psychiatry residences in the past. The Doctor I currently had did not want to work with me. I complained about her and she asked if we could start off on a new foot.I wish I would have said no. I heard my problems were "to complex to deal with." at the clinic I've went to for 6yrs?She poorly managed my MedicineShe would show up late constantly; which the desk people would always make comments about within earshot of me.She would purposely try to confuse me and make me think I didn't hear her right or she would change her stories.Lastly. She promised to help me find a New Doctor and Therapist. It went from the doctors mentor up and quit? No list of Doctors was left for me. Than it was too early to make calls to places?Dr Sood had no interest in me at all.Slu had no interest and never consulted with me on releasing me from their care.6 years there and now I have no Doctor or therapist. My Chart info is not fully there due to SSM neglect in losing it during the merger with Slu.My medical release consent form I filled out never made it to the records department!I have family and friends that work at 3 different hospitals and have never seen such a mess in their career.I'm actually thinking about taking legal action for patient neglect. If you decide to go here, take a friend or family member with You. Good luck....Btw the workers behind the desk are the only positive thing you will encounter.
