Bellefontaine Cemetery: what do users think?
Carol H: My husband and I spent a perfectly LOVELY afternoon in Bellefontaine Cemetery recently; in all our visits to St Louis, we'd never been there. I'm so glad we finally made the time to see it!The cemetery is impeccably cared for. Brian is one of the groundskeepers, and was immensely helpful to us during our visit. He guided us to a few sites that weren't specifically listed on the map, and was very friendly and welcoming. Many thanks to Brian for his guidance, his hospitality, and for opening the waiting room so that we could use the facilities there. It's really a beautiful cemetery. The map does a nice job of leading you through the grounds, pointing out all the most interesting gravesites (e.g., The Girl in the Shadow Box, the Lemp family tomb, William Clark's grave). One of the loveliest areas is the Wildwood Valley, with two lakes joined by a stream lined with gorgeous wildflowers. At the top of the farthest lake is a lovely outdoor chapel with a lion sculpture. Simply gorgeous view! The cemetery has multiple paths, so a map is absolutely necessary. But it's easy to drive, and you can pause along the way at multiple points to admire the lovely funereal sculptures of a time gone by.If you have a couple of hours to spare while you're in St Louis, Bellefontaine Cemetery is definitely worth your time. Enjoy your visit!P.S.-- My girlfriends and I returned for a visit last month, and it was still the beautiful, idyllic place I remembered. Such a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours!
Kathryn Glass: Take a tour of the mausoleums in this beautiful cemetery. Tiffany stained glass features
Roshini Cope: One of my favorite places in St. Louis! 😍
Charles Ward: This is maybe my favorite place in the city. I once saw "The other forest park" written on an event sign there. In my opinion it is "The better Forest Park." As an avid history and architecture enthusiast I'm in heaven(pardon the expression) at this cemetery. Shockingly beautiful and just plain cool!
Jenna: A beautiful cemetery with an arboretum. Quiet and large enough to have privacy. They provide free services for families dealing with the loss of a newborn which is a kindness and a load off of a terrible loss.
Andy Feliciotti: Pretty cemetery with a great driving tour!
Laura Hermann: This is the most amazing place! So much history, absolutely stunning sculpture and statuary, not to mention all of the beautiful landscape! Truly a gem of St. Louis. They do all kinds of fun historical tours and events and there is still a ton of space for burials if you fall in love like we did!
Sunshine Bee: The only regret I had was not being able to read the stories on every gravestone in the Bellefontaine Cemetery. The cemetery is very well maintained and the most beautiful cemetery I've ever been! I can't wait to come visit again.
Alli H: One of the best in STL. It’s like an oasis
Sherry Smith: Must see destination!
J B: As a former Security Officer, I'm very impressed on how well maintained this cemetery is.It appears that every effort is made to make sure the Cemetery is preserved and respect and keeping it clean & improve where possible. The biggest thing now days that bothers me. The fact you have to have Security for any cemetery from vandalism.I do admit,, that when I originally started working at the cemetery, I was kind of creepy out.. it didn't help with some wild animals that only seem to come out in the night time. But as time gone. It didn't bother me much. And seemed a place to be at peace because of the care the cemetery has done.I no longer work there. They contract with a security service that I no longer trust caring for there employees only self imagine & money.
Keepin it Classy: The tour guide just said in passing where Rush Limbaugh was buried. I don't care if you don't like someone politically, your job is to give a tour. Very disappointed.
Sean Smith: I had the honor of visiting William Clark's gravesite on the 198th anniversary of his death. The gravesite is impressive with engravings about the Corps of Discovery and Clark's life post his travels west. Clark family members are also buried at this site.
A L: Beautiful cemetery. Beautiful burial service. Mr. Lay and Bellefontaine Cemetery was very helpful and considerate at my time of need. Beautiful lots and well maintained. Would recommend to friends and family.
Bryan Rupp: Very interesting and impressive gravesite. Be sure to get a guide booklet at the entrance to help you find your way, you will need the map. Drive slow and look for the small road sign names at intersections to find your way. His family along with himself are here.
Barry Fitzgerald: I miss my Friend.Mentor.Forever missed.
Robert Drew: Gothic and gorgeous!
Trish Walther: Most beautiful old Cemetery in St. Louis. A visit here is like a visit to the art museum.
Dr Dirt: We love you Rush
T Walther (Gravewalker): The most fabulous Cemetery in The St Louis area. The grounds are maintained impeccably. The staff is extremely helpful. You can even take a self guided driving tour. If you like cemeteries for their beauty, you will fall in love with Bellefontaine. It's a must see for their unique monuments and arboretum. Quite peaceful walks or bike rides.
Dave Sharp: Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful in all seasons for both the nature and monuments. Fascinating history.

Calvary Cemetery & Mausoleum: what do users think?
Virginia van Berkum: Mooie glas in lood. Serene plek om te bezoeken for stilte, meditatie. Historische en mooi.
Truth: Calvary Cemetery & Mausoleum has long history. I am Catholic and all of my family is buried there and I will be too. It's exciting see all the good reviews about it. For the bad reviews, I'm very disappointed. You say it's in the hood. You have to understand and remember the area before there was a hood there. If you don't like it have your family members exhumed and relocated. Bet you don't have the money to do so. Your not respecting your loved ones. I'm sure Mr. Dred Scott is comfortable there like I will be when the time comes to rest next to my mother and grandmother and family members.
L Braman: This cemetery has ornate metal signs posted everywhere, overhanging the curb. If you pull over to let another car pass, as I did, you can very easily end up with a deep scrape on your car, as I did. Totally unnecessary and should be replaced with round signs slightly set back from the road, like Bellefontaine. A 5 minute visit to the Garden of Innocents costs me $500+ in auto body repair.
Nick Eilerman: Unfortunately, we didn't even have a chance to visit our Grandmother's grave because 3 suspicious cars were speeding through when we arrived. 2 of the cars circled back and got behind us. We came to a fork in the road and I could see the 3rd car waiting up the hill to the right, so I made a left and exited the Cemetery. The thugs in the cars behind us could be seen hand gesturing to the car ahead after we made that left turn, a turn that potentially saved our lives. This area of St. Louis is drug-infested and crime-ridden. Please be alert and safe if you visit. Call the Cemetery and find out best/safest times to visit.
EJ LW: My father just passed away and I called Calvary Cemetery to find out about getting a plaque placed next to his parents, who are memorialized there on, or near, the grave of my great grandfather. The person I spoke with told me that I had to prove I was a direct descendant of the person who held the account for the family plot. He gave me her name, but I have never heard of her before. I mentioned that if my great grandfather and both my grand parents are either buried or memorialized there, how could I not be a direct descendant of the person whom he claimed held the family plots? Well, It turns out she is my great, great grandmother. So, I need to contact her to get permission. Does anyone know of a good app to communicate with those existing in the great beyond? As I've been taking care of the odds and ends of my father's passing, I've been greeting with nothing but empathy from people at organizations I've contacted — with this one exception. I suppose the man who I talked with could have been having a bad day — although, I don't see how it can be worse than the past few days I've had. My advice to people who run Calvary Cemetery is to at least act like you care. It seems like that's your business. And the guy who I spoke to was very, very bad at his job.
Joseph Komadina: It is a restful place
John Wesolowski: Like how they answer the phone during buss hours n call you back.Plan on coming to see my Grandparents n mom at calvary. If it was up to me dig them up,remove them another cemetery.
T Walther (Gravewalker): Calvary Cemetery is in the very top for cemeteries in St Louis and the 2nd oldest in the Archdiocse. Its beauty surrounds you the minute you drive through the gate. There are some of the most unique and spectacular monuments you'll want to see. Bring your walking shoes because it's huge, over 400 acres. There are also several well known families buried here. Beautiful in all seasons to visit.
John Scanga: I enjoy visiting family an friends that are buried there...the grounds are well maintained and the employees are a large help in locating different sections.
Joseph Vosevich: Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum is an amazing place to take a walk and learn some history, especially if you pair it with Bellefontaine Cemetery next door. There are quite a few famous names like Dred Scott, William Tecumseh Sherman, and Tennessee Williams and standing next to their graves is incredibly powerful. I recommend pulling up their Wikipedia pages and reading them aloud while next to their graves.
Lindsey Meider: Rest In Peace sir!
Terry Bray: This is truly an amazing place. I have family there from generations.
Patricia FREUKES: The Cemetery has great history & many absolutely lovely sculpted headstones.HOWEVER, the neighborhood surrounding the cemetery is terrible and a high-crime area. It is best to go in a group or also carry your own protection buddies of Smith & Weston with tou!!The Disose also MUST start doing a better job at grounds upkeep and security to prevent theft and vandalism.
diana stitz: I visit my family at the Mausoleum several times a year. It’s always a quiet and peaceful experience. Everything is so clean and well taken care of.
Carol Murphy: Very sad. Found out my grandmother had a mausoleum there, great, no not great at all. One of the bronze doors had been pried off and stolen. Not the first one, probably the sixteenth different one, along with the huge cooper pipe for the air conditioned cremation room. I was told I had to pay to fix the mausoleum. My grandmother also had bought lots of lots around her so our family would be buried there, none of us have been,,,,, but we can’t sell the lots she bought only donate them to the cemetery. I was promised that security cameras would go up, 3 years later nothing. Funny how Bellafont cemetery has had no problems, oh yeah, they have security. Only the tip of the problems I had with the cemetery. Very sad since my grandmother also paid for eternal care.
Michelle Curry Smith: Was very well kept
Joe Burton: As a self guided tour terrible. Just came from Bellefontaine Cemetery and experienced their great self guided tour. Trying to find a grave in Calvary was ridiculous. Very disappointed.
Sandy Ryan: I have many relatives buried there It is so peaceful and well maintained . I am so blessed they are buried there
Christopher Perry: Very much up kept cemetery.
Robert S Carlton: Very peaceful and well maintained
Rollie Mosley: My Moms here and she Rests Nicely Here.... R.I.P Mom. They just gotta fix the roads around the cemetery

Mount Hope Cemetery & Mausoleum: what do users think?
Evelyn Dunbar: Mount Hope Cemetery team did a wonderful job during the home going of my Beloved Mother. Staff are professional, very respectful! I will recommend!Eve D
J Lane: I buried my partner there. You couldn't ask for better people than the folks there in your time of need. Truly outstanding.
Frank Belleville: Beautiful, peaceful place.
Beth Reifsteck: One of my favorite cemeteries to visit. We always stop by and say hi to the Alvarez sisters who died in the early 1900s. More than a hundred years since their deaths and they still get visitors. Very serene and we almost always see deer.
John Appling: The setting was very beautiful and peaceful. A lot of large trees makes it seem less like its close to a busy area.
Jeannette Lato: We were very fortunate to have had everything pre-planned for my mother’s funeral. Kim at Hoffmeister South Chapel assisted me in planning everything. She was excellent and very knowledgeable of everything that needed to be selected. She made a lot of the decisions I had to make seem effortless. Highly recommend Kim to assist you! After my mother passed I was contacted by John Mitnik, he continued to help assist me in preparing for the funeral. It was not an easy task as a day before the funeral we got 8 inches of snow. I couldn’t get to the funeral home to make the final arrangements so John and I did most of the selection of music, flowers and all of the final touches by telephone. With the assistance of Laine Hamstra he drove to my home and picked up my mother’s clothes, pictures and everything I needed to sign, I can’t thank him enough for doing that, my family was very thankful. So yes I would definitely give Hoffmeister and Mt Hope a 10+, they made the day perfect. Thank you!!
Jay Lane: A beautiful historic cemetery. I just can't say enough good things about it.
Charles Clarke: During a very difficult time for my family, Cyndi Weir went above and beyond. She was a pleasure to deal with and for that I am thankful.
Joann Etling: Cyndi Weir, Laine Hamstra and the entire staff of Mt. Hope were very professional and sincerely caring during this difficult time. We all truly appreciated how they went over and beyond.
teresa gleghorn: Practically my husbands intire family is there .i believe and think it looks nice and take good care of it thx for your hard work and up keep
Elsbeth: Best mooi met wat jy verwacht
Nancy Schmidt: Classy

Friedens Cemetery & Mausoleum: what do users think?
Peachesstrawberry Robinson: My Dad William Hampton RobinsonIs buried there.A beautiful quiet place.
Rob Big Bewig: Need to keep better records, trying to find a relatives grave from the 1800’s and they tell my he’s not there, after reading some of these reviews I understand why
Keon King: This place doesn’t even deserve a star. It is very difficult to get in contact with anyone. They only answer for funeral homes to collect payment. I’ve been waiting on Rik to contact me for more than two years now. I paid a foundation fee to have my great grandpa headstone put down in 2017 and here it is 2020 and the headstone is still not in the foundation. I’ve been calling and calling and only get a response through text saying their “ busy” or for me to just contact BBB or a lawyer. Please DO NOT bury any of your loved ones at this trashy, unprofessional cemetery. There is no dignity. Your loved ones deserves a better final resting place where if the family have any issues or question they contact someone.
Carol Veillette: I wish I cld move my father from there. I'm to afraid to visit him there, now. Can never get anyone at office.
Robin Wells-Stegall: Very run down. No one is ever available to talk to. They don't keep it clean like they use to. Stuff keeps getting stolen from my nephew grave. I have family in that cemetery since the early 1900. Who ownes this place?
Janice Jones: Buried my Husband's Aunt today and this place looks horrible. Grass is even growing in the cracks of the street over 6" high. Funeral homes should stop supporting them until they clean it up. They are only 5aking our money.
Vernice Watson: My father passed July 2014 we paid for a double plot for my mothet and father i have went to this office 3 times and was told we will take care of it my father still does not have his end date on his tomb stone
Freshoutent: My lil brother is buried there, and i stopped by every day i was in the city to have a few words with my dude. I'm gone miss pulling up to the cemetery, but i shot a few videos there so i can always have the footage.
Catherine Dockery: What has happened to this cemetery? I attended a burial two years ago and it was spotless. I attended a burial September 21, 2016 and it doesn't look like the same place. The grass was unkempt, trees have been cut down and left to lay on graves; tree limbs laying all around the grounds; the American Flag at the burial site was worn and tattered. I was appalled.
Marvine Tomlin: My mother is buried there. I dont have a tombstone on her grave , but they went and buried someone on top of my mother grave. I know that they should have seen her casket there before they put another one there. Makes me wonder if caskets are buried in the ground. Someone is going to have to do sone explaining to me and my lawyer.
Dana Ware: it's not the cementary it's your web
Deidre Kates: WE LAYED TO REST MY DEAR FATHER & SINCE ALL THE STORMS AND RAIN DAMAGE I CAN'T FIND HIM. TREES FELL AND HE HAS A GROUND MARKER AND IT'S LIKE IT DISAPPEARED. I WENT LOOKING FOR HIM & IT'S LIKE HE'S GONE & IT IS NEVER NOBODY THERE TO ASK FOR HELP OR EVEN GET A MAP. I BEEN GOING THERE TO VISIT HIM OFF & ON FOR ALMOST THE MAJORITY OF MY LIFE. I NEED HELP ASAP
