Kraus Farms Equestrian Center: what do users think?
R: I agree with the last review from my friend. This place must hire some uneducated people that think they have the right to tell hikers on a PUBLIC Missouri Dept of Conservation trail to move out of their way because horses always have the right of way. That's laughable. You're lucky to be allowed to ride horses on the trails to begin with. If your horses don't like people walking near them, then ride on private trails. Your horses DO NOT have the right of way in Forest 44. It's a public use area...period. xoxo
AJ Rodgers: My daughter has been taking riding lessons here for 3 weeks and we love it. As a complete beginner, she was pretty nervous but the staff here is nothing but helpful and friendly. There are sooooo many horses available for riding, and the instructors assign horses based on the student's abilities. They also offer boarding, my daughter was thrilled to learn this and is already saving up to buy her own horse.Things good to know about lessons here:- There is an INDOOR arena for bad weather days, with an indoor viewing area for observers (very convenient).- The outdoor arenas have a set of bleachers for observing, but I've noticed most students are either dropped off or their driver waits inside or in their vehicle.- Equestrian helmets are required, but they don't recommend buying your own until the student has a few lessons, just in case they don't enjoy it as much as they thought they would. The stables offer a large selection for borrowing, which I believe are sanitized between use.- Arrive for your lesson early! Students are expected to groom and tack their assigned horse before each lesson, starting on day 1. This gives student and horse a chance to bond before the actual lesson, so it's very important. That being said, there's always staff and volunteers around to help when needed, and everyone is very helpful and understanding of newbies.
Diane McConnell: We took my 8-yr old granddaughter on her first real trail ride and this experience was perfect. The staff as well as volunteer help was beyond nice. My husband and I ride, our granddaughter has had some lessons and another family with less experience rode together. The guide and volunteer staff were so good addressing our varied experience levels. The trails in the nearby conservation area was a fantastic setting. Horses were very well behaved and responsive to cues from the riders. Highly recommend and am already planning to bring more grandkids to experience trail riding at this establishment.
Heather O: Great facility, friendly staff. Horses are well taken care of. Highly recommend, Alex is who we train with and she is the best!
Rachel Machens: Had a fabulous trail ride. The trail leaders were excellent, very knowledgeable, caring, and took us on a wonderful trail ride.
Bruce Fenwick: They're always very friendly and the kids have a good time.
Matthew Moyer: Good safety measures and appropriate horse size for the rider, I am at their weight limit of 250lb and the horse had no problem. My daughter is not an experienced rider and she had no problem with the simple instruction.
Robin Golden: My 8 year old daughter had a wonderful time at day camp. She's had limited exposure to horses. I'm just impressed by what she learned in a week!Edit: just updating my post from 4 years ago. We continue to come to Kraus for their summer camp. My son and daughter have a great time all week even in the heat!
Elvir Mandzukic: Family Friendly. Children and adults enjoy classes. Friendly Staff.
Chris coco: Thank God for this place and the people that run it
Jeremy North: Great place for horse lovers. Kid friendly trainers and trail rides for all ages.
Katie Norris: Kraus Farms is one of the best places to board your horse or take a trail ride. The owners are such nice people. They really care about you and your horse.
Lori White: Staff is lovely, horses are angels ... just an incredible way to spend a Sunday morning. I almost don't wanna share this secret, but I like these folks too much to keep them from ya! If you love a great trail ride on some amazing Missouri trails, Krauss is the place to do it. Amazing time-capsule of the western St. Louis countryside before it became all highways and Hardees. ;)
Phillip Beagle: I had a wonderful trail ride. My guide, Alison, was excellent at communicating what to expect on the trail and how to handle to horses.Alison listened patiently. She was very generous in sharing her knowledge and experience. They have a beautiful arena. The waiting/viewing area is well appointed with vending machines and clean restrooms. The upstairs has comfortable seating and there are picnic-style tables and benches on the ground floor.Due to current COVID restrictions in St. Louis County, masks are required inside buildings and for mounting and dismounting. On the trail, where horses provide proper social distancing, masks can be removed.Everyone there was kind and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this center for beginners and more experienced riders.
Jennifer Stinson: Love this place the horses are so beautiful
Sophia Walters: I take lessons at Kraus and they have such amazing staff and instructors. They care for the horses and keep everyone safe around the horses but everyone is still able to have fun! I have been taking lessons here for 2 years and I plan to keep riding at Kraus. I highly recommend taking a trail or having a birthday party here as well!
Tri Bow: I really enjoyed the trail ride this morning! Sara and Olivia were our guides. They were so patient and kind. The horses were awesome and clearly loved. I cannot wait to go back..the ride was over too quick!
Cat Donoho: Awesome place! My mom and I came for a trail ride and our guide was Sarah! She was great, super knowledgeable and fun! Horses were kind and gentle and trail terrain was fun - nothing over the top but not flat and boring!
Michelle Sample: Had a great time hauling our horse in and renting one of their horses for my son! Had a great time, thanks Krause Farms!
Steven Woods: Nice friendly people where you can learn to ride a horse

Valley Mount Ranch: what do users think?
Tammy Miranda: My very healthy horse almost died within weeks after moving him there. They feed sweet feed...seriously... then you can't even get to your horse anytime you want. Worst boarding stable ever! Beware!
Lisa Harvey: Love it! Great fun.
yRobbie Engel: The owner was unwelcoming and unbelievably rude to me, and access to my horse was micromanaged. I moved him within 3 weeks to a much more friendly, open, welcoming stable.
Big ____mEaT-_-___-: Very nice place! Nice people there too
Richard Thurman: I was just the driver. I didn't stay
john andres: Horses are always taken care of and trails are great!
Lauren Pyles: I called to find out what they offer for child horse back riding lessons. The lady who called me was so rude. It was like pulling teeth to get answers. She was not friendly at all and could care less about telling me about their programs. She sounded so miserable. I will not take my child here and will look else where.
Allen Price: Nice place to practice horseback riding.
Daniel Carlos: Not happy with the attitude of the staff that work here. This little girl who has never rode before was getting treated with terrible attitude and she didn't know what to do cause she has never been on a horse. If you have never rode before this would be ok, but if you have rode before go somewhere else. If you horse takes 1 step out of line you get yelled at.A tip for the owners. If you are take a group out that is experienced separate them from the new so you can focus on the new.I will never come back here again.
Christian Klarr: One of the best places to go riding
Bryan Vonderahe: Fun ride with kids. Easy to book and pretty scenery
Bill Schmidt: Nice people
Curtis B.: Good stiff
Kyla Harris: Awesome place to ride
