Community Music School of Webster University: what do users think?
Johnni Gillespie: I am very disappointed in the staff and their lack of response and their lack of consideration when they didn't communicate timely, effectively or efficiently which led to my child not be able to experience an opportunity that he will be to old to experience next year. As the person said on the phone so very uncaring, there is always next year. So, community is NOT an accurate depiction of how this program operates. My son is so disappointed and crushed!
Elena N. H.: Great teachers and affordable prices.
Karen Zelle: Superb music education!
Josh McGinnis: We were searching for a piano teacher in the area for my 7 y/o twins and when we discovered Webster CMS. We were matched with a teacher who specialized in working with younger children and she has been incredible! My girls had no music experience but they are excited each week to go to practice and they work hard to impress their teacher. The venue here is great. There’s a large open area upstairs when you walk in and there are several classrooms on the lower level where instructors teach piano, strings, percussion, you name it. Make sure you ask for the WiFi information because there is no cell service downstairs, and if you have a little one who is considering piano make sure you ask for Mirta Donnelley!
livingwaterj: Our children started taking music lessons at Community Music School of Webster University back in 2011. The oldest studied trombone under Dr. Frederickson who was an amazing low brass teacher. As a seasoned educator, he challenged our son to practice diligently and reach higher goals with step by step guidance and patience. Our second child studied clarinet under Katie Myler. I still remember the first lesson with Katie and the stunning transformation of my daughter's playing. Katie is extremely talented in making a complicated piece simple and fun. Her explanation of the ebb and flow of music and the way she would tap her right foot to emphasize certain music sections always made me smile. Our daughter is currently a senior studying clarinet performance in college, still coming back to Katie for summer lessons. Our third child started learning trumpet under Mr. Souza when he was eight years old. From the very beginning, Mr. Souza taught my son how crucial it was to nail the first note of a piece and made him start over and over until it was perfect. Not only has our son improved his trumpet playing, he learned the importance of discipline in life from his trumpet teacher. Our youngest is still studying flute under Carolyn Hoyer today. Because of multiple children taking lessons, scheduling became a challenge at times. Carolyn was always so helpful and accommodating. Countless times, Carolyn would overcome the nightmare of traffic and parking to come just to teach one lesson, even after an injury or a medical procedure. My daughter blossomed in her flute playing under Carolyn's guidance. What an excellent team of highly qualified and dedicated music educators!
Shannon Seper: Our son has been coming here since he was a little guy in their Kindermusik program. We enjoy our music class together!
Rhonda West: This IS the Community Music School. It's a wonderful resources for kids who are serious about music.
Brandon Krepel: This is Washington University's 560 Music Center, not the Community Music School.

STL Rock School: what do users think?
Gabe Rees: Extemely nice staff and a really cool place. My daughter takes ukulele and piano there and is excited every week!
Danny K: Devon listened with respect and helped guide my grandson to better understand his lessons
Ethan Winograd: Positive:QualityI’ve been a student at STL Rock School for close to ten years and I can’t recommend it enough. Over the years, I’ve been able to build incredible relationships with other talented students and instructors alike. I can safely say that being a part of STL Rock School bands and lessons has made me the person I am today.
Daniel Bradbury: This place is hella dank lol
Athena Watts: Jared is super nice, enthusiastic and welcoming! I am learning guitar and Julie is so amazing! She’s extremely knowledgeable, an amazing player, and a phenomenal teacher! I recommend STL Rock School to anyone serious about learning an instrument!
Penny Nuernberger: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMy daughters taken lessons at many different places and I have to say she has grown the most at STL Rock School. The staff and owner are great, professional and know how to help kids be the best they can be! Best place in St. Louis for music and bands!!
Kellie Lightle: We’ve been going to Stl Rock way before that was even the name! My kids started out when they were in preschool and we are still rocking out but these days it seems like we are jamming with family! The staff and owners are extremely friendly, helpful and professional while still having fun! They’ve even gone virtual during some of the tough times during Corna virus! If your kids love music then they will absolutely love Stl Rock!
Kevin Daniels: The owner really cares about the kids, and obviously loves his job. The staff are all amazing. Whether you want to learn how to play an instrument (at any age) or want to learn how to rock, this place is great. I cannot recommend it enough!
PCP: Awesome environment, super friendly staff, top notch studio and equipment to take your experience to the next level. Marty is the most patient instructor I've ever worked with on anything, glad to have met him!
Bryce James: Critical:Professionalism,Quality,ValueU have other options. Unprofessional, humiliated by this outfit. Go elsewhere!
Patrick Gebhard: My two sons did a two week camp at STL Rock School and we're planning on doing a one week camp later this month. One played drums and one did piano. They had almost no experience going in. They are much improved and more importantly really enjoyed the camp. They loved their teacher, Devon. With COVID being a concern, they kept the students in groups of 4-5, did lots of sanitizing, and everyone wore masks all day. They had a concert on the last day in the parking lot that was cool for the kids to experience. We'll be looking to get the boys scheduled during the school year for afternoon lessons and/or return next summer for another camp.
Trent Duffey: This was an awesome place to be in when I went here about 4-5 years ago, and it looks like the teachers here, as well as the kids have a blast making music. It was a great experience, and it helped me get to the level of musicianship that I am at right now. Thank you for all of your work and support. And also, the place looks like it has made strides to improve the quality of the equipment, and the cleanliness of the building.
Joshua Wills: Couldn't be happier with Dave Simon's Rock School!!!! All of the teachers there are very helpful and kind to my little dude!! Top notch!!!!
Modi Weiss: My 6 years old son love kids rock and my older boy plays in the school band and take private lessons. Great teachers, fun and professional.Highly recommend
Sophie Wang: Great school,my daughter and my son they both love this place, wonderful teachers, very friendly!
Amelia - Gaming & Vlogs: My son's self esteem has gone through the roof since starting drums at Dave Simon's! The staff is outstanding, and friendly. Communication between staff and parents is wonderful! Thank you Rock School!
Leib: My 13 year old sister had her birthday party at the Rock School, and I could not be more satisfied with the facilities, the stuff and the equipment provided. If I could give more than 5 stars I wouldn't hesitate. Highly recommended
Karen Bland: Such a great place for my young kids to get their first exposure to music. We loved kidzrock and now are enjoying the Junior Rockers program - I never imagined my shy son would actually sing a song on stage! The program is fun and builds confidence in kids, for sure.
Sydney F: Rock School is great! I loved taking my guitar lessons here and joining a band! It's definitely the best "extra" activity I've ever done. Such an amazing, exciting environment and welcoming place!
Keri Simon: Dave Simon's Rock School is an awesome program and has really changed my sons life. They have a very thorough program for guitar lessons and drums, piano etc. We're new to St. Louis and so many people raved about Dave Simon's. Cool rock band program too

Shock City School of Music: what do users think?
Gretchen Schiltz Brenner: My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Gen (owner) at Shock City for several years, and we couldn't be happier with our experience! My daughter started lessons when she was 10, and she has loved learning piano and has thoroughly enjoyed working with Gen. In addition to the musical skills she's gained, she's also developed a sense of ownership and pride in her growing musical ability -- which has been such a beautiful thing to witness in our growing pre-teen!
Ben: My daughter has been taking piano lessons at Shock City for about eight months now. Thanks to the positivity, patience, and expertise of her teacher, she's making fantastic progress--and she's having a lot of fun! Both of us look forward to her weekly lessons and especially to the studio's recitals. We'd recommend Shock City to anyone looking for private lessons or group instruction.
Aaron Golchert: Best music school in St. Louis; 5 Stars all day long! And they just expanded into the space next door so now they have double the room and can offer even more services to the music community!
Janis Smoot: I am happy with my guitar lesson and teacher, Justin. The lessons are personalized specifically to my learning style, abilitiy, and purpose as a senior embracing her love for the instrument and desire to learn it..
Jessie D. Miller: Fabulous addition to the Maplewood neighborhood! Hearing music and laughter next door continues to make me smile. A true gem!
M K: Very disappointed with this class. The music was only played via an iPhone and the children were given the same two instruments to play with for each class. Toys were provided at the beginning of class and then taken away, which doesn’t work well for toddlers at all. Their policy on class registration fees, and make up classes is horrible. We were basically charged 120.00 for 1.5 classes so buyer beware and make sure your child will even like this class before throwing away 45.00 to register them and then having to pay for the full month without any refund option if they hate it, which our 20 mo did. OH… The kicker here is that they don’t offer a free trial class!!! So you have no idea if this is a good fit until you fork over all the money.I never felt he was engaged in a meaningful, fun, or authentic musical way. I’m sorry but pressing play on your iPhone shouldn’t cost 100+ a month. Don’t waste your money here.
Rachel Clark: My son and I have been taking lessons at Shock City for almost a year. The staff is wonderful and the school has so much to offer. Ms. Gen is an awesome teacher and has been very accommodating as the director. My son also loves his drum lessons with Joe. I highly recommend Shock City for your music lesson needs.
Andy Lobonc: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueReally enjoy lessons here. Have been nervous to try personal lessons but they made it really easy and enjoyable and already seeing great gains! Looking forward to more.
Nick Frisella: Our son takes his piano lessons here. Genny is engaging and her instructions are well received. We are very happy with Shock City!Check them out :)
Courtney Metzinger: Shock City provides positive and enriching music classes for all ages, starting at infant level sensory motor developmental awareness via musical engagement all the way through your teen years developing music appreciation and instrumental skills. We have participated in the infant and toddler music classes at this school and enjoyed the playful atmosphere, fun-filled musical exposure, and sense of support and community. Check it out!
Kalanit Chappell: We have had lessons at two other local music schools. Our experience at Shock City has been much different! Interested, attentive, and inspired teachers is a real thing, and can be found at Shock City. Our daughter's creativity, skills, and excitement has grown through her experience here. Highly recommend them!

West County School of Music: what do users think?
Ioane Sakhelashvili: I recently graduated from the school and it helped me grow so much as a pianist. Both my teachers were great, very knowledgeable and attentive to my needs. The level of professionalism with all the teachers was very high. Would definitely recommend for anyone, both young and older kids.
Farzana Karim: What a great school and wonderful teachers here! My daughter absolutely loves learning violin with Ms Alla Livak and they play such beautiful concertos at the Festivals, we enjoy these!
Dushyant Soorya: Good school good instructors
Shalini Arya: My daughter learnt from Ms. Yulia for 9 years. Ms. Yulia is a wonderful teacher and I highly recommend her.
Emi Cella: Wonderful place to get music lessons
Christine Hachem: Love Ms Yulia-daughter really enjoying piano -both fun and classical pieces! Been with her for many years now.
Chavin Karl: The school and its teachers are phenomenal! The teachers are experts in their respective field and teach exceptionally well. The thoroughness in the teachings is remarkable.
Heidi Thies: My daughter loves her guitar lessons here!
Isabella X: My daughter has been learning piano at West County School of Music for almost 2 years now. Her teacher, Ms Elise, is very knowledgeable, patient and wonderfully sweet, and has a very good learning plan in mind for her to make very steady progress. We are very pleased to see how far she has advanced in her piano journey and can’t wait to continue growing at the school. The Principal, Ms. Yulia, being a highly experienced and well achieved pianist and teacher herself, has a very good structure of the music events, in terms of recitals, progressive evaluations, and all kinds of auditions and competitions. This is truly a great music community and all children seem to thrive in this rich environment!
Anne Go: We love West County School of Music! Ms. Yulia and Mr. Darek are such great piano teachers! My children learns so much and enjoys their time in class. We’re happy to have found this school and highly recommend them!
Preeta Guptan: WestCounty School of Music is an excellent music school. We have had experience with music teachers for many years and moved to the music school in the last 2 years. Yulia is a very good director and keeps an eye on the quality of teaching. Siqi Luo is our teacher and she is dedicated and professional and we see our child is encouraged and challenged appropriately.
J. Ohs: My children (ages 4, 7, and 13) have been students at the West County School of Music since its inception. We have been very pleased with the quality of instruction at the school! The founder, Yulia Rife, has a long history of success as a piano instructor as evidenced by award winning students and the joy that her students have in playing the piano! We have been impressed with the compassion and care that all of the instructors at WCSM have shown their students, as well as their skill and talent not only as teachers, but also as performers.
Asma Charef: Unprofessionel , change of hours without notice. My daughter’s teacher priorities student and gave her time to another student , was not nice with her. My daughter used to love going there last year when the school was under different management. We find another place. we are so happy we left this school. Suprised about all reviews here but well they are all from old students. I Will NEVER take my daughter to this school (may be other teachers are nice and professionel but our was bad).
Kon Ly: My two kids enjoy learning to play piano with Ms. Yulia for more than 5 years. She is a great piano teacher: patient, skilled, fun, serious, joyful.
Tu Le: My daughter has been learning piano since she was 6 with Ms. Yulia and love it since. Ms. Yulia's discipline but encouraging teaching style has made my girl to not only study seriously but also build up her confidence and nurture her love in music. Kudos to West County School of Music and Ms. Yulia for being my child's piano teacher.
Andrew Frager: My son started with Harmony Road group lessons, and then for 9 years until graduating from high school he took private lessons with Miss. Yulia. Yulia Rife was a great influence on him. He had a natural enjoyment in music, but with Yulia, that love was able to grow and make roots that continue to bear fruit. Because of the nurturing of Miss. Yulia my son is now majoring in music composition and building on the foundation that was established over many years at West County School of Music. My family has so much gratitude for all that Miss. Yulia gave to him, she will ever be a part of his’s musical and life journey wherever that may lead.
Va Ung: I was with Ms. Yulia for thirteen years (since I was five years old) and am graduating this year. During that time she was always a supportive teacher who pushed me to improve and as a result of her teaching, I have cultivated and maintained a special love for music to this day, even though I will not be pursuing it in college. Music in turn gave me opportunities outside of school that have only served to enrich my life and has created memories that will stay with me forever.
Tiffany Ung: I've been with Mrs. Yulia for more than 10 years and enjoyed every moment with her. She is a very thoughtful teacher that genuinely loves music and all of her students. Taking lessons from her is sure to make you share the love of music!
Stephanie H: My daughter enjoyed her teacher. I disliked the process of things because we were never given a receipt for payments, nothing ever noted in a book that we paid for tracking. Also the instructor told us it was his last day one week and the school never called to tell us formally or even offer her another teacher for lessons. Very unprofessional to me. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone if asked.
Leticia: We have been Mrs. Yulia's students for more then 5 years. She is a talented teacher. She knows how to approach kids of all ages, she makes learning music fun. The school environment is very nice and for us in a great location.
Abeer Mahfoud: We love music, and who does not?But when it comes to music classes, you get to be in the right place, especially if you’re having your kids to take the lessons, because they are smart enough to sense the difference between a teacher, and a professional teacher, who challenges them to get the best of them, and yet makes them feel comfortable and excited! This is how my kids feel about Mrs. Yulia, who is really as sweet as music. The whole school environment is nice and encouraging.
