Maggie Taylor Berkowitz: Central studio offers a beautiful space for my Pilates practice and the equipment is fantastic. Even better than the aesthetics is the expert level teaching I have received from Laura Dunlop. Her knowledge of anatomy and Pilates work together to create a meaningful session that strengthens my weaknesses and leaves me feeling amazing when I walk out the door. Highly recommend!!

I discovered Central Studio over 5 years ago when I started a Pilates training/certification program. Throughout my training and beyond I felt supported, encouraged and mentored. I recommend Central to everyone from those who would like to start pilates or those who have been doing for years! Although I’m not involved in the children and adult dance programs, I like to watch the yearly production. I also can’t leave out the Collective Motion professional dance company. They visit schools and teach through the children’s books that Mary Ellen has written. One last thing, if you need a Thai massage, there are several massage therapists you will love!

Leah Johnson: I have been taking Pilates classes twice a week for 20 years, the last six at Central Studio. The owner, Mary Ellen Bryant, really listens to the needs of students, and I am delighted with the care they exhibit to each person who attends a class. We are always asked "how are your bodies feeling today" and the instructors do a great job of gearing the class towards the level of the attendees. Central Studio quickly adjusted to providing Zoom classes during the pandemic, helping us keep in shape by offering alternative ways to keep moving.

Prakash Gupta: Affordable price, good selection of both weightlifting and cardio machines. Excellent staff. Multiple common areas, classes, physical therapy options, massage etc available. The best part is it’s not crowded even during peak hours.

Ricardo D'O. Albanus: I had one of the best massages ever with Micah. From what I heard, the other massage staff is superb. Gym is also well-equipped and not too busy. Consumables (protein bars, etc.) are very reasonably priced, and the front desk staff are friendly. Class options could be a bit better - particularly on the weekends, when there are no in-person instructors. Their on-demand virtual system is nice in a pinch, though. Overall, an excellent option for working or near the medical school.

Chem tutor: 🙋🏽‍♂️we are coming to the BJC move not because we can’t access WashU’s gym but to get a quiet and peaceful workout in. Todays Zumba class was absolutely noisy and crowded. If you’re hosting events like this in the future pls let the other members know that way we can plan like wise. Y’all should have taken these 50+ crowd to outside (provide weather was nice today) and not let them walk all over the free weights area. Thanks for listening!PS: I know I’m leaving a 4 star review coz I like our gym and I don’t want it to close down!

First, Lisa, the owner, is happy, friendly, very professional, and goes above and beyond. Lisa teaches classes, is a personal trainer, and is very knowledgeable about all aspects of fitness. At this way ladies, it is about fitness, but also relationships. I have met the most amazing women! In addition to being the best kept secret boutique gym for women, Lisa organizes a book club on the premises, outings to the winery, trips to Kimmswick, and sometimes we load into our cars and catch a movie! Lisa also has a mini shop where she sells clothing, jewelry, essential oils, CBD products and more! Her place is very clean and safe. Kathleen L Wright: I have been going to weekly Twerkercise classes for several months now and I can say with confidence that Get Sexy Movement Studio is the most fun I’ve ever had exercising. The workout is actually intense—cardio, strength training, and balance. You see results after a few weeks. The music is so good and the atmosphere is so welcoming that it’s easier to go harder for longer and get a truly great workout.I definitely was intimidated to go to my first Twerkercise class. I was scared to dance in front of people and I was worried I wouldn’t fit in. After the first half hour, though, those anxieties totally melted away. Ashley, the teacher and owner, is a very kind and passionate person who will put you at ease (and she goes easy on newcomers :) ).The class is two hours long so bring a water bottle and good shoes!Oh, and their special events are lots of fun too. If you get the opportunity to go to a Couple’s Class or other party, go!

Rebecca Currie: I’m so happy I found this gym! Everyone is so nice and welcoming at the STL location (MOV in the Lou). Gloria made me feel right at home as soon as I walked in for my tour, so I joined right there on the spot :) I’ve been a member for a few months now, and have not regretted that decision once. The gym has all the equipment you need, the bathrooms/showers are clean, and the 24-hour access is incredible. It looks small on the outside, but the inside is pretty big—I’ve never felt like I’ve been right on top of anyone while working out. There’s always plenty of parking and it’s never too busy regardless of what time I go. I used to be so bad about being consistent with my workouts, but I love the staff so much that I’m excited to go in. The manager, Allison, is the sweetest and even wrote me a hotel workout plan that I was able to follow while I was out of town. Matt is the best trainer and so fun to workout with. Can’t say enough good things about this place =D

Yes. You must drink out of the bathroom sink if you run out of water.“We are a private gym so we can’t buy a water fountain.” Equipment is falling about. Weight played aren’t even. Some plates are pealing off and benches have wear and tear. Definitely go to club fitness for a better gym experience.

Katie Farrar: I’ve been a member of the gym for five years and in personal training with Matt Tinker for 4 years and I often feel like it’s the only thing keeping me sane. If you want to put headphones in and do your thing, no one will bother you. If you want to engage with others, you’ll find a very welcoming community of regulars. The gym has done a great job during COVID - very strict with masks, disinfectant out the wazoo, temperature checks, lots of spacing. The staff and trainers are all great and willing to help if you want it. As a woman, I’ve never felt creeped out or uncomfortable in the weights area. I’m very, very happy with the community I’m a part of with St. Louis Fitness Club and would highly recommend to anyone else.

Rachel Gassner: I've only been going to Yes Honey for one month, but as my husband says I'm drinking the Kool-Aid! I don't have any dance training but have always loved to dance and this place has taught me so much! I've tried classes with several of the instructors, and they all are all so professional and encouraging. I've tried going to many gyms over the years but always ended up wasting my money because I didn't have fun. This is the first time in my life I'm excited to work out. After every class, I leave full of energy and excited to show others what I did. I've done jazzercise, step aerobics, and lots of Zumba before. They were all a good time, but the music and moves make this place NEXT LEVEL. Do yourself a favor and give it a shot- the first class is discounted!

I find Yes Strength classes to be well balanced, providing a full body workout. Yes Move classes also provide a full body workout including some strength training. I am not a dancer nor had I ever taken a dance class. Even as an absolute beginner, I am to able to feel successful (like an absolute badass) and accomplished in Yes Honey classes.

Dancer or not, Yes Honey is the place to go for your next workout!UPDATE (1 year later): Yes Honey is still my absolute favorite place to workout, re-energize, reset and just have fun! It is such a special place and unlike any other “gym” you will find. You will leave your workout with a smile on your face and a greater sense of confidence in yourself! Even if you could find another studio offering this great of a variety of classes/playlists, these amazing instructors, and this type of fitness community - I guarantee it still wouldn’t be as great as Yes Honey!

My favorite classes are the Yes Move, which is a follow-along dance workout followed by 10 minutes of strength training and the Yes Choreo, where you learn a short choreographed dance. I have some dance experience, but you definitely don't need any, especially for Yes Move. The instructors are so lovely and welcoming, and each one has a different style and approach, so make sure to try them all. I always get a great workout and leave in a better mood than I came in!

Layne S: took two classes here before and they went well. i booked another class for my friend and i but it got canceled the same night due to ac damage. they said i would get credits and i’ve never received them. i’ve asked for a refund but they refuse to answer my messages. i’ve called many times, texted one of the instructors personal phone, instagram and facebook. no response. i’m disappointed because i really wanted to find a studio that i could go to regularly.
Caroleanne Bauman: I’ve never done any pole dancing classes before and I had my first one here. My instructor was brand new, she was telling us that this was her first class so I do understand trying to find her groove but at the same time I felt like we didn’t do much for warming up our bodies. I also felt slightly uncomfortable because I felt like other people who had been there for longer than me were getting more help than I was . On top of all of that this facility doesn’t have air-conditioning so especially with me being a first time person I couldn’t even get a grip on the pole to practice anything so I kind of felt like it was a waste of my money and time and I really busted up my legs by trying my best to get up a slippery pole. I feel like if you’re facility doesn’t have air-conditioning that’s something that you should inform people of when they’re signing up for your classes. The website also offers that they sell pole grip but no one showed me where I could buy that from or even mentioned it to me at all.
Orlando Carson: Went here for my first pole dance lesson and had a great time! The instructors made the class fun and inviting for first timers. The studio looks chefs kiss, got the mood lighting and a mirror wall so you can see how good you look spinning around. They’ve got a new member, I’m at least coming once a week.
Allison Hibbard: I was super nervous to try pole because I’ve never danced (and rarely even worked out), and other workout classes I’ve been to have made me feel awkward. However, I felt way more comfortable than I expected. Everybody was so welcoming and nice!! I didn’t hesitate to try a second class, after my third I bought a monthly membership, and now I’m 5 months in. The environment is really inclusive with all types of people in the classes, and the instructors do excellent at tailoring the classes to my abilities. 10/10 recommend 😍
Azi Lobodim: I started my pole journey with this studio back in late December after a rough breakup. To say the community here has helped me is beyond an understatement. This is by far the best group of people I’ve ever come across and my pole journey has soared because of them. I never thought I would enjoy it this much. Because of all the instructors, I will be becoming an instructor myself and will be pole certified ! A super inclusive and open space, free to be yourself. Savannah Larimore: This might be a long review because there are just so many things I’ve loved about this gym. After a year of home workouts during the pandemic, I was ready to try new things and lift heavier weights. After looking at gyms in the area I decided to try DFT for various reasons but mostly because it’s a gym by women for women. I can’t tell you how incredible it’s been to be in a space full of women of all ages and bodies with the same goal of getting stronger. Watching everyone hit their goals is so inspiring! The coaches and other members are all so supportive, while also trusting that we know our bodies and our limits best. I have a lot of injuries from sports when I was younger and the coaches always work with me to make appropriate modifications. I’ve been able to achieve all the goals I set out for joining this gym and got to meet some great people along the way. The coaches also host additional events for skills and community building. I could go on but if I wasn’t moving I would have stayed a member here for many years! Definitely consider DFT when you’re shopping around for a new gym!

I can say one of the best things about this wonderful gym is that they are able to help me with every hurdle that’s thrown my way. I was able to work through a shoulder injury and come back even stronger than before. I am now currently pregnant and have become the modification queen! They have been able to help tailor my workouts to keep me healthy and active as my body changes. I never dread going to my workouts, instead I look forward to seeing the friends I have made and leave in a better headspace. I feel ready to take on my day and know the biggest challenge is behind me! Their sense of community is one of the things I love most about them. They are always finding ways to help support local charities and give back to the neighborhood. They honestly want the best for anyone and everyone. They know me personally and make an effort to make you feel welcomed instantly. My best advice to someone who is wanting to start their fitness journey is to give Dragonfly a try. Alana S.: I’ve been back at Dragonfly since October 2020, and I’m so glad I rejoined. I have been attending strength classes consistently and seeing results in my strength over the course of each 8 week session. I get my cardio in on Saturdays with the Hurricanes class and love hitting up rowing classes when they become available. I had never rowed before joining Dragonfly so I can credit (mostly) Renah for my form and skill. The coaches are well-versed in biomechanics, and offer alternative movements for those that need them (Pain? Mobility issue? Injury? They’ll help you work either around it or to overcome it!). There truly is a sense of community at Dragonfly amongst the members, and I look forward to each session to focus on myself, even if it’s only for a few hours per week. I’m a better parent and partner when I get in my workout.

Olivia Faith: Was a member for several years and LOVED the exercise classes. The beginning classes were all very inclusive for all levels so it was a great place to really get started.I don’t have kids but enjoyed it all the same!
Kailey Parks: This is a beautiful facility and I wish I lived closer and could take advantage of it! I attended a book tour/signing held in the gymnasium, but had the opportunity to walk through the gym as well. It's clean, well maintained, and has tons and tons of workout equipment of all kinds - the most well-appointed gym I have ever visited.

Ken Hirsch: Generally summer is the worst time at the J if you're wanting to use the gymnasium or pool facilities, as preference is given to groups mainly consisting of non-members, and little consideration given to members that pay the premium membership fees. Considering a move to a gym that is a little more focused on providing a higher level of service to paying members.Overall it's decent facility, but if you're joining to have swimming as part of your workout beware. Schedules are often mismanaged, and getting kicked out of the pool in the middle of workouts so that unscheduled groups can take over is common place. Six times in one summer I've driven over to the J and either haven't gotten a full workout or, have been unable to workout at all in the pool due to pool mismanagement or incorrect schedules being posted online. Several hours of multiple days per week, either one or no lanes are available to lap swimmers. Member Services does little to help or make to make things right. Just way to expensive for this level of service.
Alex: My girlfriend has experienced racism towards her at the J, she's fed up with it and canceled her membership. Seems like other members can't be a decent human being and other parents are teaching their kids to be racist as well because they don't get it out of nowhere unless it's someone close to them.
J Deh: I’ve been a member of The J for a few years. It’s a great gym in a lot of ways. There’s a decent selection of equipment that seems to be well-maintained. I also like the squash courts and the indoor and outdoor pools. I also worked with a trainer for a while and he was excellent. Something I particularly like about The J is that it is truly accepting and welcoming of everyone.The annoying part: There seems to just be one schedule posted online (at least that I can find) for each pool. It shows the general hours of the pool, but does not show changes to that schedule (e.g. pool unavailable due to a special event). Since I can’t find this info online, I need to call The J and ask if the indoor pools are open and available for use. It is maddeningly difficult to get a correct answer on this. For instance, I’ve called The J three separate times this weekend to check if the indoor pool was indeed open for use, and all three times I was told the wrong information. I wouldn’t leave this review after one off weekend, but this has been an issue over the past few years.
Ed R: Great gym - terrible policies.One ‘mask hour’ per day? Please use some common sense when creating rules. Is one hour supposed to ‘stop the spread’?The J tries to be an extremely woke company, yet it ignores common sense and reality..Don’t join unless you want early closures on Fridays (6pm) and policies that help the minority of gym goers.
