Brad Warren: I didn’t eat, but the food that I saw looked good and several people told me it was very good. I only had cocktails. It was a beautiful day in KC, so they had the windows open. Really nice views and great for people watching. The bartender, Gabby, was on top of her game. I never had an empty glass and she was kind enough to brew me fresh coffee at 3 pm with an almost empty restaurant. The location is great and I will definitely visit again.

Chris Morris: Never been the kind of person to put down anyone’s establishment, but todays experience for me was horrific! Today my family and I walked in for lunch and we were seated by a polite host, once we were seated we were given our menus to look over. We sat there waiting for some kind of assistance, or even someone to offer us a glass of water. But to my surprise no one showed up, literally about 5 mins later a bigger party was seated right across from us. As we sat there for 10 mins, no service, no water, the waiter proceeds to take the order of the bigger party as if we haven’t been sitting there before them. Within that time frame about 3-4 waiters walked by and still no assistance, by this point I decided to get up and go back to the front desk host and asked why we haven’t been served and why the bigger party is getting serviced before us even though we were there first. He walked over to get a waiter to come over to assist, by that point the damage was done. It’s not the part that we had to wait, it was the simple fact every single customer in the establishment was white and we were the only 3 black people in the restaurant. We felt disrespected and discriminated against, because the party that was sat right after us were all white. This was a horrible experience for myself and my family, will NEVER go back to this establishment, especially where black people get ignored even though our money green like the rest!

That's ultimately the problem, I've been here 6-7 times at least and every single time it's different - sometimes everything is fast, sometimes there's no service. Sometimes the food is flavorful and fresh, otherimes it's phoned in (or some of ours is good and some bad).It's not the worst option but it's hard to recommend a restaurant when you can't expect consistent results. I haven't tried their other location so maybe it's just a problem here?

I spoke to the Manager and he ultimately allowed us to stay in the establishment but the ordeal was humiliating. Especially considering we were coherent, and tipped will the entire night and paid our bills promptly. This is a night club that I frequent, but the manner in which I was treated by the black male bartender with pink hair was completely unacceptable and unwarranted.

Laneé Stro: I went to Ale House for Memorial Day weekend with my family to commemorate my late grandmother and a Black male bartender with pink hair accused my family and I of not paying for a tab. We eagerly tried to show him the invoice via bank statements on a phone, but he refused to service us and ordered security to remove us from the establishment. I have never been treated so poorly for something I didn’t do - and when we attempted to calmly explain ourselves we were accused of arguing. My cousin did talk to the manager who ultimately did say we could stay in the bar, but we were so humiliated that we just left.

Kaleb Young: Drinks were good but the service definitely left something to be desired. We waited 15 min, in an empty back room, before someone came by to take our order. Then had to wait another 20 min to get the check once our drinks were empty to get the check. We paid a large deposit for a reservation but we’re never told it was going to a charity instead of going to the tab. Which would’ve been fine if we had we been told beforehand but it felt misleading. I’ve had a good time at Julep in the past but recently it seems to have been on a downward trend.

Stephanie Simms: Made a reservation for the Halloween pop up, and it wasn't actually ready. Pretty disappointing that nothing mentioned it wasn't actually ready yet, and we were seated in the regular bar with some decorations on the table. We were seated at 5:45 and it seemed like our server intentionally didn't come by to take drink orders until after happy hour had ended.Drinks were fine. Small, and not particularly exciting. Seemed overpriced for what we received (especially the bar mix). The drink pictured was $26 to serve 2 and it filled those rocks glasses about 1/3. This will teach me not to be sucked in by a gimmick.Otherwise a very nice bar.

Holly Welsh: Beware of hidden fees. Our group of fourteen made a reservation for happy hour at 4:30 on a Wednesday. When we arrived, there were three patrons and a single employee sitting at the bar. We were instructed to sit wherever we would like. We pushed tables together at the far end of the restaurant and enjoyed our cocktails. Apparently, our reservation and our own efforts moving together tables warranted a 10% “coordination fee”. Ridiculous.
