Jessica P: Family Gathering meal for 2 was not the best 😕 😞 We got the brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and ribs. We'll our chicken ended up being ham and when we told our waitress she tried to argue with us saying it was sausage, which was incorrect, but she ended up getting it for us. But came back with oh yeah I checked it you did order that my bad, like she didn't believe us it was supposed to be chicken. She was very short with us and seemed irritated the whole time. We were a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 younger kids) so we shared this meal cuz we weren't that hungry and spent all day visiting our mother in the hospital down the road. Also the meat had no flavor and very dry/rubbery. The sides were delicious though. We just kept that to ourselves at that point cuz how she was acting towards us. She seemed disgusted that we were sharing a "big meal". Also this Family Gathering is more of a sampler not much portion to it at all, so it's a good thing we weren't that hungry.

Paulie Keener: Holy cow! Got the burnt ends platter and was shocked by the size of it. Most times getting a lot of meat is indicative of poor quality. WRONG!!! It was buttery tender, with that caramel crunch of char, and tossed in the perfect amount of bbq sauce! Then the beans and the coleslaw slaw. I LOVE coleslaw, and am VERY critical of it. So I had to to return the next day to grab two large containers to go. Excellent service as well. Don’t miss out this place rocks!

Alyssa Lin: I went in with my large family and had the worst experience. I knew it would be a massive order as my family has 12 people so I called in the morning to see if I should place an order first. The lady was curt and basically said no just come in. I was rushed and stressed at the register because of their disorganization and as my family was trying to find a seat the hostess was pushy and rude. She interrupted my family members multiple times to “shush” them or tell them flat out no about trying to understand her seating arrangement. Then tried to put the responsibility of the busser on us. Saying multiple times “you guys are a big party and it’s usually mandatory to tip the busser”. I had already tipped at the register, 35 dollars as my order was over 200. So I was not thinking to also tip in cash as I already tipped. We decided to leave a dollar as it was the only cash we had on hand. As we were leaving she proceeded to wave and hand the dollar back to my underaged daughter after we all had left the building and say “you can keep it” and saying “we don’t get the tip from the front.” Well why did I tip then? I have never had any issues with any other gates in Kansas City and only this one. I would not recommend going based on the service and that you will likely leave with a bad taste in your mouth due to yeh customer service.

Highly Favored: Went in with my 2 kids. When they asked our order, my kids hadn't decided on what to order. I asked for a moment. I also let a man cut in line so I wouldn't hold up the line. We ordered ribs and burgers and boy were they great! The ribs are huge and smothered in a honey barbeque sauce. The burgers are homemade and are juicy and very flavorful. For the sides the Mac 'n Cheese, Green Beans, and bbq beans are the best!The decor has a vintage feel that fits in with the old motif of the old town Independence square. There is history behind this storefront and if visiting the place ask Doris she'll love to tell you all about it. And if you are a piano player there is an tuned piano available to play right inside.

jokerz wyld: We have tried to eat here several times with no luck. There are never open. They post their hours but, do not follow them. I am done even trying to go there. Good luck. I doubt they last with a work ethic like that.

Candy Shanley: We stopped here, it was the only restaurant open. Had chicken nachos (it was literally chunks of cold chicken on top of Doritos topped with nacho cheese) the cost was $15.99. Tried my husband’s catfish- had a muddy water taste ($19.99) they didn’t have a lot of their menu items because their refrigerator was just fixed. The staff was super nice but I don’t think we will return. I hope things go better for them!

CWT: I enjoyed fried catfish. Piping hot, crunchy light breading, great flavor without additional sauce. Two sides: baked beans and Mac and Cheese were good but nothing exceptional. My wife said her hamburger was too salty for her taste. French fries I thought were very good as a stand alone. Everything was hot and fresh. Don't leave without a peice of cheesecake. Not overly sweet or rich just plain delicious. One star off on a over salted burger. Would I give it another try? Hell yeah. Excellent owner and service.

Angela Ferguson: On Saturday June 10, 2023 my sons and I had a decent dinner here. Our server, Karli S. was friendly, polite, and very attentive. She absolutely made certain we never had to wait on drink refills and made sure our food was prepared the way we wanted. She was thorough and kept us from having to ask for anything. As for my Filet, it was rather bland and surprisingly tougher than it should've been. My sons were very pleased with their meal choices.9

Nathan Sherer: The restaurant was very clean. All their food is good. I have never had anything of theirs that i didn't like. Tonight I had the ribeye. It was so juicy that it almost melted in your mouth. I had their seasonal strawberry pecan salad. It also had grapes and mandarin oranges. It was fantastic!
