Pirate is the only other black belt that I choose to seek out jiu jitsu opinions from- he is a phenomenal coach and sets the standard for his students.

Michael Grapes: Great gym! Acknowledgeable instructions and friendly environment. Great for the beginner or a person with experience. If you don’t drop in and give this gym a try you will regret it.

David Hummel: Blue Springs Jiu Jitsu is a great place to begin learning about martial arts. They have classes for Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and a Filipino stick fighting art called Kali. Jiu Jitsu is the most popular of the 3, and has the most mat time scheduled. There are 5 black belts, a handful of brown/purple belts, and a whole bunch of scrappy blue belts.If you are new to the belt system, the belts indicate level of knowledge. The colored belts can all answer your questions to help you learn the basics. Wayne is the owner and an excellent person to learn from. He keeps the classes friendly and fun while bringing a perspective that is the culmination of training in a range of martial arts.Come in and give it a try. It's a great way to exercise while learning a life skill.Update: February 2022The last 3 years of training have been awesome. Brandon, Chris, Wayne, and Steve have taught me a ton. Bo Moreno: While there are many Tae Kwon Do schools, fewer and fewer seem to offer the traditional old school fundamentals, discipline and philosophy that go into a true martial artist. Not only does Master Henrich offer this, but he also teaches the confidence and self respect skills that are essential. It's is a school of serious physical training where arrogance has no place. It is family friendly with classes for students of all ages. Master Henrich also offers cardio kick classes. I would recommend Henrich's US Tae Know Do to anyone.

Kord Guess: I’ve attended many different schools throughout the country for drop in classes and intro classes, and this one is the best i’ve been to. it’s chill, welcoming, and when i was going through financial problems i was always told “don’t worry just come to class”. they genuinely believe and teach that as long as you come to class not only will you get better you’ll improve your life outside the gym, and you’ll bring that back to the gym. Can’t wait to move back and get the kids back in. They don’t want your money, they need it to keep the business running, but they really want you to be a functioning member of the family.

Nate: We are in the program designed around younger kids and kids new to Jiu-Jitsu and we couldn’t be happier. They allow you to come in and experience some classes before you commit to ensure it’s the right place for your child. My son was so scared the first lesson and Sunny(one of the instructors) engaged him and got him on the mat and the next thing you know he’s all in. Carlos does a great job teaching the kids, he also is great with the newer students . It feels more like a community versus just a class. Very much like a community. I would recommend them to anyone and frankly I trust them with my children so that shows how good they really are.

Every class I attend, I am amazed at the teaching, the students, and the skill they all have. Mission Mike (Michael Kilmartin): So my wife and I travel a bunch for mission work, and I love to train as we go. That being said, I’ve probably visited over 200+ mma and bjj academies, and I had to stop and take a moment to shout out this academy! Gracie Humaita Kansas City is on another leve!! Professor Graeber is UNBELIEVABLE!! He is an INCREDIBLE instructor, and his passion for teaching is amazing! His students are super talented, and his level of detail on techniques makes it so easy to learn. And from the moment I walked in, he treated me like family. I cannot recommend this academy enough, and I cannot recommend visiting this place enough! Check them out for yourself! Whether brand new, or a veteran to the game, you WILL LEARN something new, while feeling right at home! :)

Tabitha Valencic: My 14 year old son has been training and learning here (in the adult class) since May, and has really learned a lot. We don't have anything else to compare it to, but really respect Kaela's experience and teaching ability. She's really inspired my son to reach beyond his comfort level, try something new, and work hard. I highly recommend coming and checking out either the kids' or adults' class.

Elijah Edwards: THIS REVIEW IS FOR THIER KIDS PROGRAM!!!BLUF: We have been to 5x gyms in the Kansas City area and this is my favorite one for my kids (7 and 8 y/o).Disclaimer. We knew what we wanted in a BJJ gym. My kids have been training for about 8 months at a BJJ gym back in GA. It has been super hard to find a BJJ gym in Kansas City even remotely close to being as good as the one we left. Train is the closest we have found to Terra Guerra BJJ back in GA. Also we go to two BJJ gyms, Train AND Brazil Academy North.Pro:1. Kaela is the instructor who started this gym in her garage. Yes it is in a garage, and to be honest, THAT IS A PRO. Why? Because my kids have a LOT of energy and this is a gym that really takes it out of them. At Train BJJ, they are forced to train in uncomfortable conditions. My intent is for my kids to learn self defense, and not to get too into this (BJJ). However, my kids really want to compete despite my discouragement. Well, this is the Gym for them...2. This is a BJJ that ROLLS!!! Of the 5x BJJ for kids in Kansas City, this is the only one I have seen that does that for kids consistently. Some like Kick Martial Arts do that too, but only for their "black belt club," and they admit it is not consistent. Glory was doing it, but admitted it's not part of the program. They were doing it that day only because they had some students of theirs in a competition the following weekend.3. It's an hour long. Most offer 45 min classes. One BJJ gym wanted $500 first month and then $300 thereafter for just two days a week. which brings me to point number 4.4. It's three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.5. Kaela rolls with the kids individually and helps them to think, what can you do next with what I taught you? This is next level BJJ.6. Every gym we have visited in Kansas City, we as a family discuss the pros and cons in the car and we all vote (thumbs up, down or sideways) on if we like it. This was the only gym both my kids gave a thumbs up.7. Kaela is offering a promotion that it's only $30 right now... in September it jumps to $100 a month... STILL the best deal in Kansas City... BY A LONG SHOTCon:1. This BJJ gym is super far for me. It is a 40 minute drive. UNGH... BUT it is worth the drive.MISC: Kaela puts up a tent for the parents but it is still hot in the summer. This is a minor inconvenience for the level of training and experience my kids get at this BJJ gym.Some tips:1. BRING WATER! For you and the kids.2. My kids eat a small orange 15 minutes before training for energy.3. Bring your own lawn chair.Final Thoughts: I was REALLY hesitant about going to this BJJ gym... It's in a garage. I am the FIRST person to say how surprised I was that I liked it, and my kids liked it. I highly recommend you give it a shot.

Addison Twede: If you're looking for a gym that will train you in competitive jiu jitsu, this is the place to be. The instructor has two world titles and was trained by Tanner Rice who is world renowned in the bjj competition scene. This gym is just starting out and is currently in a garage, but the price is unbeatable and the training is amazing!
