Silver Heart Inn & Cottages: what do users think?
Katherine Weese: Rooms: The Beach Cottage was very comfortable and charming. It was a treat to have the hot tub on the premises and super convenient to have kitchen, laundry, and a coffeemaker. We appreciated that coffee pods and creamer were supplied. The bed was very comfortable, and the carpet and living room furnishings brand new.Nearby activities: The Inn’s guidebook is extremely helpful. The Inn is not far from Independence Square (walkable) and many historic sites. The Truman Museum and Library is a short drive and well worth the trip—an excellent museum.Food & drinks: The breakfast was delicious— ample portions, nice presentation, great service. Snacks were also available at check in.
Cindy Rotermund: Great 2 night stay here at the Silver Heart. Hosts were so welcoming and the house is lovely. It was unusually hot when we were there but our room had a window a/c which did the trick just fine. Breakfast was yummy both mornings. Also I really enjoyed sitting at the patio for some relaxing time with my book.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Romantic …More
Phillip Iman: We absolutely love this B&B! We had everything we needed to enjoy our time in Independence, MO. The kindness and excellent service that we received was above and beyond! We would recommend Silver Heart Inn to anyone! We stayed in the Wren cottage and were extremely pleased!Rooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Lynelle Lankford: This is a lovely B&B for a night away! The owners are so nice, rooms are clean and cozy. Our bed was very comfortable, sheet were so soft. We did the monthly murder mystery and it was casual and fun. The breakfast was simple, but delicious: we enjoyed our stay!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Salina English: It was absolutely adorable! Everyone was so friendly and the house was decorated so elegantly. Thank you so much!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Romantic, Kid-friendly, Great value, High-tech …More
andie -: Our stay in the Beach Cottage was amazing. It was stocked with everything we needed for a weekend filled with sight-seeing and staying in to enjoy each others’ company. We couldn’t have asked for a yummier breakfast or better service. The property is so pretty, too. Highly recommend!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Jennifer Cravens (Ajailyn): Newish owner was super friendly upon arrival! We stayed for our anniversary and as an independence area local I've driven past it all the time decided to stay! Charming, absolutely charming. The beach cottage was clean, comfortable, the cottage has its own private hot tub completely private even from surrounding neighbors! Kitchen was not only stocked with dishes and pans but coffee, tea, liquid creamers, but the spices were stocked! Did not need to buy those small things like spices we forget when on holiday! Breakfast was amazing and cooked at the time we sat down, not buffet style! Full two course style breakfast not those horrible continental. Saturday was my partners favorite from scratch made biscuits and from scratch made gravy with an egg and a chicken sausage link after the first course of honey vanilla yogurt topped with home made plum jam and almond slices! Sunday was strawberry and cream filled French toast made with French bread.. and sausage. Served after the first coarse of a Waldorf salad! Coffee, tea, juice and water were available. And the beds.. when you stay on a bed that is better than at home... just amazing service, charming room.. and plenty of soft plush towels... a perfect romantic get away!!!The only reason location was 4 * out of 5 was its spring we had windows open and it was very close to a busy intersection and near a firehouse.. when windows are closed though the emergency vehicles and traffic is a lot more muffled and its quiet! But it is very close to a quiktrip and a grocery store! Close to independence Square and other historic travel spots! The host is exactly the kind of inn keeper you find joy in visiting again!
Mashona Washington: We had a wonderful stay! Charles provided impeccable service from beginning to the end. We felt welcomed and well taken care of! We loved the comfy bed and the home itself was very quaint with its history and hardwood floors. We are excited about trying out some of the other rooms/cottages when we’re in Independence again! Highly recommend!Rooms: The Margery Stone room was very spacious and had everything we needed!
Stephanie Bizjak: This was such a great experience I only wish I had more time to spend here! I stayed for one night on my way from North Carolina to Montana & it was such a breath of fresh air! I stayed in the main house & it was so cozy. I got a great nights sleep. I initially wasn’t going to stay for breakfast since I had a long drive ahead of me & the owners graciously packed me a Togo breakfast snack. I decided to stay anyways to get the full experience & I was not disappointed! Breakfast was quick, delicious & the service was impeccable. I highly recommend & if I ever come back this way I will be sure to spend more than one night!
Mary Banks (Tami): Very cute, clean place to stay. The hosts were wonderful! I would definitely stay there again.Food & drinks: Breakfast was very good!
Rylee Harmon: We found this cute little cottage online to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and our soon to be wedding on March 18th! We loved everything about our stay here! We stayed in the Beach Cottage just over this weekend. This cute little cottage really is a slice of heaven and is 100% private. It really allowed me and my future husband to connect and really focus on each other. The electric fireplace and private hot tub were AMAZING. Ya’ll when I tell you Charles and Amy think of everything, they do! We loved to see they had little string lights located where the hot tub sits to add that romantic setting. It was such a relaxing little getaway and we absolutely fell in love with it! The only reason I gave 4 stars was because they are located down the street from a fire station. So when we were outside enjoying the tub we did hear sirens often but it DID NOT affect our stay or how we felt overall. More of something to be aware of. I highly recommend the cottage we stayed in if you’re looking for a romantic private outing and don’t feel like sharing the hot tub like we felt. 🤣 We can’t wait to return and thank you for making our anniversary a bit more special. 💙
Jeanette Wilson: Best B&B ever. Highly recommend. Great people, great breakfast and great accommodations. Will definitely come back 💖
Rachel Anderson: This place is the absolute best. We didn't want to leave! We got the Beach Cottage and it was very well worth it! The cottage was clean, the staff are fantastic people, and their breakfast was great! When we went out and came back it was like coming home. We were very impressed with everything and recommend this to everyone who needs or wants a very relaxing vacation. The hot tub was perfect and it's even got the best decorations! Will definitely return!!Rooms: Very clean, well stocked and prepared.Nearby activities: Perfect location and easy to get to nearby restaurants and attractions.Safety: Security alarms and codes for doors only given to you.Walkability: Gas station within walking distance.Food & drinks: Breakfast is made there in he AM. Very delicious!
Janice Fleet: Had my daughter's birthday celebration there. Wonderful hosts and beautiful Inn. I recommend it highlyService: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Brady Mueller: Silver Heart Inn is absolutely fantastic! Great location just 15 mins from Arrowhead and about 5 mins to Independence square. The owners are great and cook an amazing breakfast every morning, not just eggs and pancakes. They had snacks, cookies, coffee all regularly available through the day. We stayed in the Beach Cabin which was awesome. They private hot tub in the back was exquisite. Seriously 10/10.
mikenap73: We came for the Murder Mystery but decided to stay the night because the Inn looked so cute. It did not disappoint at all! The Inn is very lovely and the hosts are great. We stayed in the main house (the Legend of Asian room), and the room was exactly as pictured. It was a lot larger than we thought, and the bed was very comfy. Breakfast the next morning was delicious, and they even accommodated my picky eating. We took a dip in the hot tub before bed. I highly recommend!
Lara Hanlon: After checking out, our only question now is...when can we return?? Our entire stay was wonderful, starting even before we arrived with the owners (Amy and Charles) arranging all the details of the package we booked, from massage to dinner reservations. The home and room we booked (Margery Stone) were historic, beautiful, and clean. The breakfasts were phenomenal (I'm still thinking about the blueberry french toast!). The room and home were very well equipped, with a fan, an electric fireplace, a rollaway bed, books, and a Roku in-room, and more books, games, puzzles, snacks, coffee, and tea available in the common areas. The toiletries and towels were lux, the bed and pillows comfortable, the sheets super soft...it was great in every single way. However, what made it a standout visit was the hospitality and generosity of the owners. We had more face time with Charles, and he was extraordinarily delightful, welcoming, and kind, but Amy (working more behind the scenes) was just as great. They made the stay so special and unique, and you can tell they adore this home and their job as hosts. As soon as you meet them, you'll see exactly what I mean! While these didn't impact our stay in the slightest, I will note that the home is on a main street, so while most noise is muffled, some sounds (mainly sirens) do sneak through (though not at all enough to interrupt our sleep), and the water pressure is fairly low - which is entirely expected on upper floors in a historical house and wasn't a surprise. It was still a steaming hot and pleasant shower. Again, these didn't impact our stay at all, but noting them in case they are of importance to other potential guests. For us (and I'd imagine 99% of others), these extremely minor issues were well worth the trade off of staying in such a beautiful home with such fantastic hospitality and food.We absolutely adored our weekend at the Silver Heart Inn and will hopefully be back soon. We really want to check out the cottages and other rooms now - though it will be hard to give up the king size bed and electric fireplace of the room we had this time around! Can't wait for more of that amazing blueberry french toast!!
Alexiss Ashley: I went to the murder mystery for my for my birthday. Had such a great time. Lots of laughs, lots of fun and lots of food. Would 100% recommend. I will definitely be going back. The owners were such a sweet friendly couple.Service: 5/5 …More
Kaye Schaaf: We thought it was kind of deceiving from the pictures on the internet. We thought it was out in the countrysideOn the good end, the owners and daughter are fantastic. The breakfast was excellent. Very accommodating Thank you for the pecan pancakes! On the bad side, our sweet little one year old dog, Lola recked the blinds in the kitchen on the last day there!
Joe Miller: The Silver Heart Inn has been the most romantic place I've ever stayed. The property is so beautiful and the hosts are the most amazing people you will ever meet, they make you feel like family the moment you arrive. My lady and I will most definately continue to visit this magical place!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Kimberly Lesh: Hubby and I stayed one evening for a night away from the kiddos in the Scottish Room. Had a very relaxing and quiet time.Food & drinks: Breakfast was delicious!
David Howenstine: Our stay was very good. The only reason I mark this as a 4 star is that the Paris room is very small and much more conducive to a queen size bed. Had it been a queen, we would have selected another room. There was no place to put/keep luggage and very limited electric outlets. Debbie and Sheila took very good care of us!Rooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet, Great value …More

Brady Seaver: These people are cheap and use a delivery service for their “groceries” but tip little to nothing to their full service shoppers when using it. Take that for what it is.

Devin Walker: Great service, amazing little bed and breakfast. Will definitely return again
MR SANT: Highly recommend great clean, friendly, excellent food definitely coming back
Josh Benson: This place was such a great stay! It was very homey with a quaint feel of comfort. The staff was extremely helpful and so pleasant. 10/10 recommend on staying here. Super close to the stadium!! Once we got our of the stadium traffic I would say it was about 6-8 minutes away from where everything stops with streets shut down to clear the stadium. 😃 So convenient! 🤗. My girlfriend and I really loved all of the antique style furniture and the decor. Was just a very neat little place to stay with some history.
Shona Seiler: I have stayed at many B&B and this one was one of the best. Very attentive host, private bath rooms with luxurious linens. There were delicious snacks out every afternoon. Games, books and DVD’s for entertainment. Decorating was tastefully beautiful. The breakfast was to die for and would cook an alternative if needed. Would definitely stay here again.

Drummer 1995: Myself, my husband, my mom and her husband came to the chiefs vs titans game last night and stayed at this place... you want to talk about the best hotel I've ever stayed in! The gentleman at the front desk was the neatest and kindest man I've met that works at a hotel. It has some pretty cool rooms and was just so very cozy. Will stay here from now on, everytime we visit Kansas city, and need a nice place to stay!

Heather Rowland: My boyfriend found this hotel, when there was no availability at the hotel chain he usually books. What a quaint little find! I wasn’t sure what to expect when we first arrived, as it is pretty hidden among a somewhat residential area. But it was fantastic! Number one most important thing to me is cleanliness! This place is clean! I was impressed, and that’s not easy to do. I would go as far to say that every dollar I’ve spent somewhere else (and we’re talking about decades of 5-star hotels, $200-$300/night), was wasted on rooms that don’t come close to how clean this one felt! You sure can see the difference when a hotel is ran by the very people that have an “interest” in it. They are invested, and they treat it accordingly. We will visit again!!We even had a skylight in our room….do you realize how nice that is, to get real sunlight from above, in what’s normally a dark hotel room? 😍 Fantastic!! 👍🏼😁
Karen Spencer: Loved it
Josh Herrman: A bit pricey. It's unique. The interior is a little weird. Place was very clean. The bed was soft and comfortable. The room was pretty stuffy without AC. We think that they control the temp even though there is a thermostat in the room but we turned it down but it didn't help any. Breakfast was lame with weak coffee. Yes, this place is unique and has some character but we didn't think that it was worth the price. We probably wouldn't stay there again having experienced the place now.
Benjamin Griffin: A fun and eclectic hotel that used to be the HQ for the RLDS church.
James Nolan: Very clean and unique decor.! Best egg breakfast that side of the Mississippi!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Sean Hunt: I rent a wet moldy basement from Doug with a gas leak after giving him the rest of what money we had left and using my brother as a slave (worked for cash no tax) he is saying we have to leave asap or he will call the cops. Anyone know how to file a legit claim against him as a landlord, he has stollen my brothers health and all of our money and now kicking us out to be homeless and I won't take it. Not even giving us 30 days to figure out what our next plan is going to be. Or even get a move in date for another place.
Veteran Cosmic Rocker: Susan and Douglas were lovely hosts. Our unit was clean and cozy with so many wonderfulstocked items. We forgot we were in town because of the peace and quiet around the area. We highly recommend their B&B, however, they don't do the breakfasts anymore. No problem, there are great places within walking distance.
Luis Preciado: Bed bugs!! This place should get burned down to ashes.Owners are rude and thieves, probably put there toes in guest breakfast do beware.Rooms: 1/5|Service: 1/5|Location: 1/5 …More
Brenda Bredson: My landlord owns it and she definitely Keep s it up very neat and tidy
Daniel Rowland: I used to rent an duplex from this lady. Susan W. She is very rude and mean to her tenants and people who stay at her B & B. I don't know how she stays in business. Do not patronize her she doesn't appreciate the business.Rooms: 1/5|Service: 1/5|Location: 3/5 …More
Deborah M: This hotel scored a 100 out of 5. I found the entire experience of staying, in what to me, was way beyond any comforting feeling I could have imagined. There were candies left out, sodas in the fridge, a full small kitchen, bath, and antiques galore!! I browsed books, studied signs that went with antiquities I have never seen in all of my worldly museum perusing.I felt so blessed to be able to stay there that I am already planning my next stay.I walked to the Civil Courts, had lunch at Dave’s Diner, and learned a great deal of American History, and felt the path was opened by so many who came before me.Harry S Truman’s statues and a historic community, the square, his chambers and courtroom in the Old Courthouse with a private tour, and now the Best Hotel I have ever stayed in close to home! This was suggested to me by a local woman, and it is such a jewel I almost hate to share it.Serendipity no longer serves breakfast, but who cares!! The staff just points the way to the best locales!! It was like a whirlwind trip around the world.Thank you Mrs. and Mr. Walters for opening up your home to such a lovely, happy, and memorable experience for me. A place I believe any antique, art, history lover dreams of.
ramona persell: Well like everyone else I had a RUDE experience. I called to cancel and the women said I got your message (had to leave a message to cancel), then she flat out hung up on me. Not a good way to run a business
Hope's Visions: Wow....I have personally never stayed here...But I've heard all I need to about the owner of this place to know she would never in a million years get my business. I would never recommend anyone stay here OR rent ANY of her houses. Do your homework guys. Susan Walter (who owns this place and many rental properties thru Independence) needs to get shut down. The more people know and are aware the less business she will get.
alyssa riggs: I called to get some information and the lady I spok to was extremely rude.
Angela Krout: Can I give a below zero stars? Disgusting. Rude management.
trucker Mitts: Lady rude she was disrespectful and hates having to do anything like she talks to people like a privilege to stay at her place never again the roaches was scary ! KARMA !!
C. Clark Cumbo: Nice, clean and quiet place to stay. Alway feel welcome there. Only thing that is lacking is they do not have breakfast anymore. Otherwise it is always a pleasant stay.
Krystall Rainville: So RUDE! I was calling just to simply gather information and the woman that answered the phone became frustrated over my asking about pricing and hung up on me. Unbelievable.
Leah Nicole: Dated
Tanya G: Called to get more information and to inquire about pets (2 small cockatiels) and if the rooms had a tv, cable, etc... The lady who I am guessing is the owner was VERY rude and insulting. Didn't even get to asking about tbd, she was rude about bringing 2 small cockatiels who have their wings clipped and are caged, AND NOT MESSY (which I would sweep up after them anyway). She was just rude and asked if I was on the website yadda yadda... Just bad attitude and RUDE! AND SHE WANTS PEOPLE TO GIVE HER BUSINESS RIGHT???? NOT A FRIENDLY PERSON!! My husbands adult child who lives out of state was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer, and I thought I would try to plan something near home to help my husband and I get away and de-stress (which I also did not mention). Based on her attitude alone I wouldn't stay there if she paid me (even though it looks like a nice place)!!

Cheri Booth: I had a lovely stay at The Secret Place. Sheila was very kind and hospitable. The bedroom was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. It was also conveniently located close to the downtown area. I would highly recommend The Secret Place! The bedroom was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. It was also conveniently located close to the downtown area.Nearby activities: Very close to downtown area
Winnsboro South Carolina: My husband and I stayed there on our 2022 cross country trip. The innkeeper was very stand offish, not welcoming. The parking is limited to street parking. The room and property is very clean and well decorated. We could not sleep well due to an aroma in the home that kept us up most of the night. This was one of the most expensive rooms we booked for our 25 day vacation. Breakfast was only available when I asked. I would not stay here again. Not a very cozy b&b and not the best of locations. Oh well.
R Buch: Bed & Danish,Update: I appreciate the proprietor schooling me in the definition of a continental breakfast. It wasn't patronizing at all. 😆 I've had a lot of continental breakfasts. I can't remember one where I couldn't get a little milk, juice, or some toast. Not everyone drinks coffee, and not everyone can eat cinnamon rolls for breakfast due to health reasons. Maybe changing the listings on Expedia, etc., and other websites to say "continental" breakfast, not "breakfast included" would be more accurate. 💁 The bottom line is I've never been to a bed and "breakfast" that didn't offer hot items at breakfast.***My wife and I stayed here on the 19th. The property is in excellent shape, and well maintained. We were very disappointed to find out our bathroom was not in our room. There is no temperature control in the room. Putting an extra blanket and a box of tissue in the room would be very welcome. If you're not good with the stairs this is not the place for you. We were pretty disappointed in the "breakfast". We are always on the lookout for a great bed and breakfast, the best one we found in the four states is Angel at Rose Hall in Eureka Springs. Anyway, the breakfast was one cinnamon roll per person staying in the house and coffee. Nothing hot. No juice. No milk. Just coffee and a cinnamon roll. Unfortunately, I don't drink coffee or eat cinnamon rolls. I would have been happy with some wheat toast I guess. My wife did say it was a quality cinnamon roll. This is the first time we've stayed at a bed and breakfast, and not had a hot breakfast. Clarifying this in the listing would be helpful for people. The room is very bright in the morning when the sun comes up, and there's a fair amount of traffic noise that begins early on the weekday. The mattress on the bed was very comfortable. The room was a little warm at bedtime, however it should be noted it was over 100° at the time, and the rooms are on the top floor. An ice maker in the refrigerator would have been nice. There were three ice trays in the freezer with no bin to accumulate some extra. My wife needed an ice pack for her ankle and I felt bad emptying a couple of ice trays as there were people living in, and guests on the property besides us. It's a decent place to stay if on a budget, and you don't mind an almost-continental breakfast.
Laura McCaskill: You may not get to stay here It is very clean and the room was booked was well appointed. We checked in and learned that we owed 32 dollars. The room description said 2 people only so I thought my reservation covered both of us. This is a 3 story narrow residential home. We realized later that there were no pictures of the exterior posted on the website so we hadn't seen it. We brought our things in and went to an early dinner to then attend a show. While at dinner, the host texted us and said she was refunding us and to come righr away and get our things. We called her and she said she would not be comfortable with us staying in her home. I had commented when we were taking our luggage upstairs that the home was not what I expected. This apparently offended her and we had to scramble and find a hotel and come back and retrieve our luggage. Never experienced this before. Recommend she offers more detailed information on her property and is receptive to her guests making comments.
mila vi: The don't give refunds no matter how soon you cancel. Life happens... Know how to run your business.Rooms: 1/5|Service: 1/5|Location: 1/5 …More
Maggie Music Promotions: I did some research on places close to where my show was going to be and I stumbled upon a gem! This was my first time in a B&B experience, And I’m hoping all of my experiences are as wonderful as this one !! I felt like a princess in my beautiful room!It was so clean the linens were beautiful and the bed was so amazing! Not to mention getting a breakfast in the morning made by Sheila who does such a good job caring for that establishment! You will not be disappointed but just to be aware it is in a certain neighborhood but I did not feel unsafe one bit!Thank you Sheila so much and I will be returning next time there’s a show in town
John Collins: Excellent !Good location.Good price.Very clean & updated. You will have a hard time finding a better value. We'll stay here again if we can, on our next trip to K.C.
Jill Bomgaars: We had the most amazing stay at the Secret Place! We loved the decor and the hominess of this bed and breakfast. Sheila is an engaging hostess, and she is full of joy and kindness. We were impressed with the location and the relaxing environment. The entire bed and breakfast was spotlessly clean, and breakfast was delicious each morning. We also appreciated the comfortable bed and towels! Thank you for making our trip to Kansas City fantastic!
mark nguyen: Nice room. The wood stairs is loud when someone is using it. The room is nice and big.
Sean Debelak: Visited some friends who flew in.seemed like all the other Q's lot's traffic at this one. Private party goin on. I would definitely do one there.
Chris C: not very secret there was a sign and its on maps ugh
Guy Swartwood: A very enjoyable night away from home. The inn is beautiful inside and out. The innkeeper was very friendly and gracious. I was late checking in and she graciously waited for us. Our room was beautiful, spacious and well-decorated. The queen sized bed was soft and comfortable, definitely one of the better beds you find in more expensive hotels. The breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful dining room. My wife and I are planning on coming back with friends to have another night away from home.
Stephen Postier: This place was perfect. The view was great of the city. The house was beautifully decorated. And the quiche she made for breakfast was delicious. I'm not sure if it was planned, but the bacon that was served had some crispy, for me, and some rubbery, for my wife (I still love her despite this flaw). Overall we will plan to stay here again when we visit Kansas City.
Karren Ferron: The best place we have stayed in our travels close to the city beautiful room can not say one bad thing if you could give a 10 star we would
S P: Wonderful host and accommodations. Breakfast was eggs, French toast, bacon, juice, and coffee. Very relaxing and beautifully decorated. Sheila even went out of her way to print tickets for us that we purchased last minute for an event that evening. Will look forward to staying here again.
Kacey Quick: Sheila has the gift of hospitality!
Alexander Parker: Really nice service and amazing place. Very clean and excellent rooms. Great view of the city. Highly recommended!
Destanie Pringle: Sheila was wonderful. Felt at home for the night we stayed. She made us breakfast in the morning, french toast and bacon. It was a nice touch to the stay. Would stay here again.
