Jeff Rippey: I've studied and taught at the Tao Academy for almost 13 years and I have to refute the negative review on almost every point. The head instructor has more than 30 years experience in several different arts in addition to his deep knowledge of Chinese medicine. His lineages for the various arts taught are all solid - if that sort of thing matters to you. The teaching style can be somewhat eclectic for those who are expecting a fixed curriculum and this can be, admittedly, off-putting to some. Every teacher has a teaching style and every student has a learning style. If those two don't sync up then it's in your best interest as a student to move on. Lastly, there is nothing 'cult-ish' about anything that goes on at the Tao Academy. It's a bunch of people who get together on a regular basis to train, nothing more, nothing less.

If you really want to learn about the martial arts, you have to dedicate yourself to what you are learning. Hopping around from school to school to find out if you are the best is obviously the wrong way to certify yourself. I am not even going to start to describe in detail the wrong doings of this 'wanna-be student'. I am simply posting this review because I am not fond of demonizing a establishment on the internet.The Tao Academy has treated many members of my family, along with friends. The medicine provided completely changed my mothers high blood pressure issues. Simple dieting changes along with herbs and acupuncture are the main methods of treatment, along with bodywork, yoga, and martial arts. If you are considering Chinese medicine, the Tao Academy has the most experienced Doctor as well as the best Chinese martial arts in KC.

Brianna Goldenstein: I worked with Sue for a long while on infertility, cycle irregularity and a myriad of other issues. My husband also saw her a few times for allergies and commented on how much better his sinuses felt after appointments. She’s thorough, patient and so gentle. Summer Hogan: 2021 Day after appt and I have an entirely new baby! Not 1 single cry compared to 3-4hrs of inconsolable evening crying. From 3-5wks had inconsolable crying in the evenings (3-4hrs). Was told by family it could be a dairy sensitivity since a lot in the family have it, but researching I found that to be extremely rare. I had narrowed it down to gas but couldn't seem to fix the problem. It was his latch! Dr Baker immediately watched my latch (no pain for me or lack of weight gain for him. So i didn't think there was an issue. Also 2nd baby, 1st bf with no issue) and pointed out the opening on his left. After adjustment he not only latches better but his entire demeanor, digestive system and range of movement and ease in his neck & back are visible and physically felt! This saved us all. 1st and foremost my baby, but me and our whole family. Now LOVES nursing. Not 1 cry the next day ! From 3-4 hrs of crying weeks before.2018: I am 34 1/2 weeks pregnant & have been seeing Dr Baker for a few months now. She has changed my life! Doctor Baker took the time to listen to my issue and then ask further questions to better understand what treatment would work best. Kristine has a range or treatments and techniques and was able to fix my shoulder in three visits. While treating my shoulder she also found a knee and neck issue and treated those. I feel relaxed and energized after each visit and now schedule a session every three to four weeks for maintenance and to avoid future issues. I highly recommend Doctor Baker as she really takes the time to know her patients and really cares that they get well and feel 100%.

Robert Chesser: I have been going to Lohan for a few months now. I chose them because they are close-ish, and the other reviews. My neck is difficult I believe because it's short and leans forward like Emeril Lagasse. My 12 hours of computer use a day isn't doing my neck any favors. Anyway, most chiropractors are adequate with my back but struggle to get anything worthwhile out of my neck. I usually feel lucky if they don't make it worse. - I called for an appointment at Lohan, and they set me up that same day with Dr. Martens. He adjusted me from day one like he has been doing it all my life. I went to my first chiropractor over 30 years ago and he told me then that "It's all about the hands" - After seeing roughly 25 chiropractors in my life since, I would totally agree. Some have it and some just don't. I can say without hesitation that Dr Martens is top-shelf. He provides a variety of treatments, and doesn't nickel and dime you on them. I don't begrudge anyone trying to feed their family, but a reasonable fee allows me the luxury of going when I need it. You pay a very fair price for the treatment you need. The staff is great too. They are super nice and very efficient. The smiles from the ladies up front let you know that you're in the right place. I always feel better just walking in. I almost never have to wait, which is a bit of a disappointment because I love the massage chair in the waiting area, lol. Personally, I don't like giving 5 stars because I believe it should be a rarity. However, based on over 30 years of back/neck issues and treatments, I feel completely justified in giving a 5 star rating to Dr. Martens & Staff. If you are in pain, or you don't feel like you are getting the right treatment, definitely give them a call.
