SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital: what do users think?
Stephen Gendron: Horrible experience. I was warned but we took a chance. My son has a broken ankle now 7 hrs and no updates. Staff is rude and provides zero updates.Very disappointed and this hospital and especially the ER need to learn from others and fix the moral, staff and wait times ridiculousOh wait now 9 hrs freekin pathetic
Abby Seachrist: This shouldn’t even be a hospital if they won’t help people WHO NEED IT. We’ve been here in the waiting room since 7:00pm as well as multiple other people, it’s now almost 2:00am. All they did was draw my blood and say they didn’t know my results.. The nurse was extremely rude.. I wouldn’t even recommend coming here if you were dying.. PLEASE go somewhere else. You won’t get help, you’ll just get placed in a waiting room for hours..
Ginger Youngman: My daughter arrived via ambulance at 12:30am and at 6:30am has not been seen or even taken to a room in the ER so she left and headed to Barnes!
Jbriana Smith: The person that answer the phone for emergency/trauma is very rude and hung up the phone while I was asking a question about a loved on who was recently admitted in the hospital
La Tonya Walker: This is the worst hospital in St Louis. You will sit in the emergency room for 14 hours with no masks given out, wounds that are bleeding and you will be sitting there . They don’t care. The new building does not have enough emergency room staff to take care of the patients. I don’t recommend you go there because they are under staffed you might as well go somewhere else. They built a new hospital to take care of less emergency patients but more clinics that are not open for emergencies . This hospital is the worst. I wouldn’t recommend that you go there. A new facility with little to no emergency staff…ridiculous. If you go there with an emergency hope you have burial insurance because that’s the only time they will see you!! I would have given this hospital no stars but I didn’t have the option… This hospital should be shut down.
Nessa Bell: Very friendly and clean bathrooms
Tinisha Neal: The lady Florence is not at all knowledgeable about anything she does there and if you are ever admitted to this hospital 5th floor south and she is appointed as your nurse you will be surely disappointed so I advise you to tell them immediately that you do not want your care left in her hands
Sashay Wallace: The worst hospital in stlouis the staff is horrible and rude . I’m currently in the emergency room and I sat and watched an elderly woman ask for help for 45 minutes and they ignored her until I spoke up for her . I been in the waiting room since 1 something it’s now 10pm I still haven’t seen a doctor and on top of that they been did X-rays n a EKG early just to take my money cause they know by it being a level 1 trauma center the wait time is long as hell so most people eventually walks out . As I Waited one of the nurses tried to In courage me to go to another hospital for treatment after already waiting 6 hrs now it’s been 9 hrs still haven’t been seen by a doctor I left . I wouldn’t recommend a dead dog to go there if you don’t come through the emergency entrance with a stabbing r gun shot wound might as well go somewhere else . This hospital deserves a Zero
Nic Harvey: Waited over 5hrs and did not get seen..While the staff laughs & giggles. Very disappointed with this visit. I will not be back anytime soon. Will take drive to Mercy..
Jessica: I'm out of town while my husband is a patient there. I've asked multiple times over the last 3 days to so many people (nurse, charge nurse, and a doctor) to call me back with updates. And no one is calling me back with any information. It is beyond frustrating I can't be there physically for my husband and they won't call me back. So I call to tell them to call me when they get new information. And they haven't.
Shay Baby: Trying to track down what hospital my mother was taken to as she is sedated and I live in another state and don’t speak to my siblings so I asked for a social worker as I suspect elderly abuse and the worker was so incredibly rude and then hung up in my face when I asked for a manager. I see why this hospital has terrible reviews! I guess I’ll have to go the old school route so I can’t be hung up on! See y’all soon :)
Zach Dygard: No address on the front door. GPS takes you to the back. They have no signs anywhere in the building telling you where to go. My wife is in a wheelchair and life is hard enough but we missed our appointment due to the simple fact there's no address on the entrance and no signage in the building. It's pretty, but useless. If they put aesthetics above functionality makes you wonder what they are charging for.Anyways I'll never come back. All hospitals can get confusion but the medical offices here are the absolute worst.
Angelica Belardo: Worse place ever!! And the girls at the emergency entrance not professional at all!! Waited 5 hour and never got seen, just walked out! Got X-rays done and didn’t even get results! They better not bill us either cause I will NOT pay!!
9Tailsfan: I personally had no issues. I was treated for IDA. Iron Deficiency Anemia. All the basic tests where done. Two blood transfusions and two iron infusions. The staff was super nice and professional. The hospital and my room was clean. The food was OK. You do need order before the kitchen staff closes up. And you need to be be more open minded about your diet. Don't b*tch about eating"dead animals".And if your loved one needs assistance with eating, then you need to tell the staff. Remember this is a hospital NOT a 5 star restaurant OR your house!
J R: I was there on April 27, 2023 around 10:30 till noon and there was a black lady standing out at the parking garage area where you put your ticket in when you leave. I didn't understand why she was there when I could do the same thing that she was doing for me. So I asked her why she was there since I could do the same thing and she told me, "it's none of your business." I could not believe she said that. If she would have been a white woman, I guarantee she would never have been rude like that. This is why I stay out of St Louis. Too many rude black people have all but destroyed St. Louis. I'm embarrassed towards all who visit St. Louis and have to deal with "people" like her. She should not be working with the public. If I was her supervisor I would have fire her for that.
Robert Hunt: I didn't plan on spending three nights in a hospital but.... things happened. Fortunately, the staff at SLU -from the ER to the ICU and finally to a non-emergency room - is amazing and I'm fortunate to have met them, received their kind assistance and spoken to their warm and considerate doctors. I am grateful to everyone there who listened to my silly questions (and gave sensible answers), responded to my trivial requests and helped me to receive sorely (and suddenly) needed medical treatment and find answers to problems that had been troubling me for months.
Joanna Wheeler: Thank you for the excellent care my son received in March, 2023. He was admitted to the ICU through the ER. The medical treatment and the support of our family were outstanding.
Melissa Slonski: I went last night via ambulance and the initial care was awesome and quick. But after they ran all the test they left me in a room for about 4 hours with no answers and I had to yell to get someone to get me up to go to the bathroom. EVERY RN was very rude. No one asked me if I was doing ok or if I needed anything the whole time I was there. I NEVER saw a Dr after my initial testing. I was given some paperwork and discharged with no explanation of anything. The only person that was nice to me was the lady doing my MRI.I would not go to this hospital again if I was dead.
Tammy Wood: Patients are not getting fed here
Lily: Very disappointed . SSM is better than this. Nurses DIDN'T attend to me . I was in bad pain and pressed button and it took1 hour to get to me Food was so bad you couldn't eat it
Jaush Guess: Horrible emergency room! Avoid!! Cannot say this enough

St. Louis Children's Hospital Emergency Room: what do users think?
Jo Jo: 4 plus hour wait with a child vomiting blood. No area for kids with autism, no updates, just sign you in and leave you to rot until they can see you. You're better off taking your child literally anywhere else
Jaron Davis: My 1 year old daughter had a severe laceration on her hand that ultimately required two deep sutures and 12 stitches. We were sent here after Alton Memorial couldn't care for her.The good:Once she was finally treated, they stitched her hand up nicely and she didn't even cry.The bad:- Waited 7 hours- Got kicked out because my wife and I brought our 7 year old daughter. Too many guests, apparently.- There was no "overflow" waiting area. We were literally just kicked outside and told to wait until they were done (7 hours later). You make all that money but can't provide me a chair to wait in over night? Seriously?- Not enough parking for large vehicles.- Bathrooms were gross. I lifted the toilet seat and there were brown dried urine stains on the bottom of the seat. Come on... even hotels clean that every day in every room. You can't handle that?
fuego Hernandez: From the emergency room parking to the ridiculous security guard and now the five hour wait (10p is when we arrived) causing me to ponder leaving and wonder why I stupidly listened to the ambulance guys while I was frightened for my child. I will not stray from Cardinal Glennon again.
Erika Caldwell: Terrible experience the last two times we have been. We were there for 6 hours waiting. I have a two year old. I was In the waiting area alone for 4 hours. Finally got back to a room and waited another hour. They finally told me what they were going to do with my daughter and then left again for another 30 minutes. All of the staff was SO absolutely rude. I thought maybe the first time was a fluke. But after being in my room hearing the nurses talking about someone else in the hall calling them a b****. I was pretty over this place. The only nice people there were the registrars and child life. The “supervising doctor” made me feel as if my daughters reason for being there was invalid and that we were wasting her time. After
Gabby: I didn’t even get to come to this hospital, because of the operator that was working last night. I called to speak to a nurse regarding my sons health, because I needed to know if his symptoms warranted an ER visit. When the operator answered, I asked to speak to an on call nurse or something like that, and she rudely said “We don’t have an on call nurse or something like that.” I explained that my son was ill and I needed to know if I should bring him, and she, again, rudely said “I suggest you call your pediatrician.” and hung up the phone. I tried to call back but nobody would pick up. It was 11:45pm, I definitely couldn’t speak to my sons doctor. We ended up taking him to a different hospital because of how rude she was to me, I hope nobody calls with something urgent because clearly they won’t be getting any help.
De'Ja TheGoat: My child has a lump on her neck the size of a plum and we've been sitting up here for 5WHOLE HOURS NOT ONCE HAS ANYONE CAME OUT AND CHECKED ON US. PEOPLE (WHITE PEOPLE) SIGN IN AFTER US THEY GO STRAIGHT TO THE BACK. ME AND MY CHILD ARE FORCED TO WAIT. JUS SAD. USE TO BE MY FAVORITE HOSPITAL. THEY NEED MORE PEOPLE HERE WHO CARE NOT JUS ANYONE CAN WORK AT THE HOSPITAL. THIS IS TERRIBLE. IF SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG I HAVE TO JUS DEAL WITH IT BECAUSE OTHER LIVES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR LITTLE BLACK LIVES. SHAME ON YOU CHILDREN'S. VOTED NUMBER ONE. YALL MUST'VE CALLED D.TRUMP TO HELP WITH VOTING. BUNCH OF BOLOGNA. I DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE.
Stacy Harms: 19 years ago I owed my sons well being to St Louis Children's hospital. Yesterday they owed my daughter respect and a bedside manner. We had a discharge nurse that actually done great with my grandson, but the admitting and pre-op nurses need to take a refresher in bedside manner. And the nurse that took my daughter back to recovery to see my grandson, and then yelled at her not to talk or touch him so loud the physicians and nurses sitting at the desk turned around needs to seek a different profession. I have worked in long term Healthcare for over 20 years a I would never speak to a family member the way my daughter was talked to.
Taay Veon: I been waiting to get seen for 2 almost 3 would not recommend
Catherine Alderman: Overall we are happy with Saint Louis Children's Hospital. There was definitely a few complaints, the phlebotomy/IV team in the ICU left a lot to be desired. They were very rough and incapable of inserting an IV into my child's arm without literal digging, even with the ultrasound. It was awful. There were a few nurses in both ICU and on the diabetes floor that were completely callous to my child's agony whenever the IV needed to be restarted, which was every hour or so because anytime any tiny bubbles formed the machine immediately shut off. The reason it hurt so badly is because they added potassium, which he needed (not least of all because of the excessive fluids they had him on because they were trying to flush ketones), but potassium is known to be painful. From medical site: Intravenous infusion of potassium chloride can cause severe acute pain at the infusion site. They used topical lidocaine once, and it helped, but flatly refused to use it again because, "We never do that...". I'm fairly certain they just didn't feel like getting it approved by the doctor. Not an excuse for such a safe, cheap means of comforting a newly diagnosed nine-year-old. They effectively traumatised a child who has a lifetime of needles and tests ahead of him. He is petrified of his future blood tests, and flatly refuses a continuous glucose monitor (which would make controlling his disease much safer); hell, he can't even handle bandai since he won't have anything attached to him because of his experience with the IVs and apathy here. We requested the IV be removed and he take oral potassium, which he was perfectly happy taking and drinking plenty of water (he wasn't drinking well while on the IV because it was a constant threat of more pain). They only gave him oral potassium once, I've no idea why. Finally, when he started screaming after the IV was turned back on again because potassium, a wonderful med-tech named Miss Gloria came in to check on the little one who was so chatty and happy just minutes before that. We explained what was happening, and she and our favorite nurse, Barbara, finally flagged a doctor down who agreed to have the damn thing removed. Having done so he immediately started drinking well on his own and we were able to flush his ketones, finally, because they sure weren't budging when he was hooked to IV fluids. Modern medicine needs to realize our bodies are meant to ingest these things orally; therefore, it tends to be safer and more effective to do so. I would also like to add one nurse's comment after I told her he wasn't bothered by the IV before they added the potassium, "Well, it's good he's screaming, it means he's feeling better!" Listen, bitch, I have multiple children, and this kid is the one with the highest pain threshold and most stoic demeanor. I had never heard him scream like thay before, and hope never to again. That nurse should get a desk job. Aside from that fiasco, however, it was as pleasant a stay as it can be in a hospital. It was clean, they have televisions with movies, they offer food for families from outside of town, they have games and rooftop gardens. We didn't have to wait because my son was helicoptered in from our local hospital. I am forever grateful that they saved my son's life, but I obviously would have changed a few things. Regardless of the distance (150 miles), we continue to use their pediatric endocrinologist clinic, because I am, all-in-all, impressed with the education and knowledge of their specialists, the genuine empathy from the front desk, and the on-call diabetes nurses for questions and concerns. Yes, I recommend Saint Louis Children's Hospital, but don't be afraid to advocate for your child as needed.
Tara Emmons-Gregg: The attention, care, & love shown to my 2 yr old grandson after suffering a stroke has been phenomenal! Thank you from the bottom of my whole family's heart! 💞💖
Zara Zorkoczy: i wut to woch your vidos sow i di'd
Artic_Guns Gaming: Good they help a lot and nice
Andrea Hunsel: Brought my son in to find out why he has been sleeping 20+ hours a day, has this weird eye moment to indicate seizures and when he wakes his whole body hurts and always has horrible headaches. I’m being told that they will consult nuero over the phone, but they are hard to get in here at night. If this is not urgent to a neurologist I want to hear directly from them and why it’s not and we should continue to wait for our appointment in March. This is no quality of life for an 8 yr old. Only reason I gave 2 stars is because the nurses were amazing!!! They were the only positive experience. I passed up going to Mercy ER because I figured children’s may be better considering his symptoms. That was a mistake. I will go back to exclusively using Mercy.
Jennifer P: We love STL Childrens. The bad reviews here, as expected are from people who waited "too long" in the ER. If you are rushed back, it means you are seriously ill. The last time we came in my daughter was taken back immediately as appropriate for her issue at that time. We were then admitted for a few days. Both our ER and inpatient staff were incredible. The room was clean, the food was good, the sleeping accommodations for me were great (ask for an egg crate/foam mattress topper). Our nurses were fantastic. Truly top notch care, wouldn't go anywhere else.
Dennis Thacker: The absolute best staff works here.
Emily Alexander: Took my daughter to the ER after a bad fall. Extremely impressed with all the care she received from triage, to physicians, registration & nurses! We were in and out of there in no time. Thank you for taking such good care of my little girl!
Kerry McWhorter: Daughter has been in the ER for over 5 hours with my grandson and has YET to see a doctor.
Saul Oceguera: This hospital should have more respect and dignity for the patient waiting they no ever offer bottle of water and they have you waiting for hour when you kids get extrem pain for hour but they still calling this emergency room
Kahmeise Lawson: The wait time is so bad. You and your children will wait hours before anything is done.
Lucy Kelley: Literally the worst emergency room! My daughter has been misdiagnosed multiple times when I brought her to this emergency room! Great hospital awful emergency room chop shop for kids and the rooms are dirty. Running a high fever and throwing up they jump to the conclusion that she has a uti....tried to shove a catheter up a one year old and leave her swollen after I told them to stop I don’t want her to have them to have the NP tell me she would never let her daughter have that done it’s too invasive....then why would you suggest it for my daughter?
Chrissy G: My son has been seen here many, many times. The staff are always friendly and easy to talk to. They are thorough in testing/examinations/treatment and have always made me as a parent feel at ease that my child is getting the best care. I can not recommend this hospital enough. The support they offer is amazing. It's not easy getting my son to go to the doctor (he is severely autistic, mostly non-verbal and prone to outbursts and they have always been so wonderful in accommodating him and making him feel comfortable.

St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital: what do users think?
daleen boshoff: Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Easy to navigate in the hospital and it’s very clean!
Rose: Well, we started out in the Emergency Room, and Dad ended up being admitted with pneumonia and a UTI. The big difference is that we didn't have to wait over 8 hours for evaluation like we did the day before at a hospital. I won't mention it by name. So the next day, we ended up at St. Lukes recommended by our primary physician. The staff is warm and welcoming with kindness and no attitude. They were very helpful every day with Dad with the aim to get him better. The room was clean, and nurses were so nice, along with accommodating as Dad is a handul. The recommendation was to transfer him once he was well enough to a skilled nursing facility until he was strong enough to be at home once again. Big shout out to the staff for working hard every day with his insurance to get him approved. One statement if you have Medicare, please get AARP UHC advantage as they are the best at getting approved sooner. This is just my opinion after seeing my dad dropped his UHC for another insurance bad bad mistake on his part. Please discuss this with your family before changing insurance.
Scott Branam Sr.: Visiting my dad in the hospital, and he was more than attended to. The staff was courteous attentive.
Jaamal E: This hospital is not helpful! They try to get you out of there as quick as possible… I came in with a big cis on my face they sent me right back home with some antibiotics when look at my cis you can tell it needed numbed and drained! The antibiotics kept the swelling down but I still have this big cis on my face when all they had to do was numb it and drain it! What a hospital 👎🏽
Steve Barron: Thank you for treating me treating me with respect and understanding. You would be amazed at how many places treat you like a number.
T C Wright: I had a total knee revision by Dr. Leo Whiteside. The surgery was a success but what I want to tell you about is how everybody I interacted with was warm and professional. I felt well cared for at every step of the way. I had my original surgery at Barnes St. Peters and this experience here at St. Luke's is so much better. I would also like to add a special thing to my nurse EV, my anesthesiologist, dr. Miller and the registration staff.
Cassandra Ries: Terrible place and don’t tell them about u being a cutter bc they will put u in the icu. Alteast get ti know someone before you judge a book by it’s cover. I would give them no stars but that isn’t a option. I come to be seen for a kidney infection but they turned it around like I was finna hurt myself. Don’t waste ur time and energy here unless u wanna be held hostage until they figure out that ur not suicidal and and they all shouldn’t be nurses at all so don’t tell them anything about u having depression or ptsd unless u wanna be held for it instead of gettting help for any problems don’t go here waste of time and money
Russ Crawford: I had shoulder replacement surgery on 2/27/2023. The Drs. and the nursing staff were awesome. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Neko Jones: I would like to thank Renuka Sodhi, M.D. Dr. Sodhi has cared for my mom for over 3 years. I am so thankful for the continuous devotion that you have for your profession. Thankful for you as a women that understands the pressure of life as a care giver. Thank you for recognizing a issue before it becomes a problem!! Dr. Sodhi thank you, I am truly grateful and I appreciate you to the fullest. I'm sending you tons of joy for the joy you give!!!!
Mary Miller: The ER team took great care of my mom. They were knowledgeable and listened to my mom’s situation. Side note: The entrance to the ER is a little odd but that was still just fine.
Richard Marzuco: Had my third surgery and I didn't think it could get better . Can't talk highly enough . Wonderful staff
Christina Withers: I went into the ER in the middle of the night on a Sunday. I was taken in immediately as they weren't very busy. The nurses were kind and helpful. I saw Dr. Hibbard who listened and didn't make me feel rushed, and he explained everything thoroughly. The only complaint I have was that I called ahead of time and was told that they couldn't give me any sort of wait times over the phone, but when I got there about 10 minutes later, they were completely empty. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience.
Hope Harms: Many experiences with kind and proactively helpful staff at this hospital: the receptionist offering directions, the nurses (on and off duty) checking in to make sure we got updates on our patient in surgery, the custodial staff giving advice about the waiting room phone, the surgeon taking time on multiple occasions to answer questions and explain the procedure, outcomes, and next steps. There's a lot going on at this hospital, but in many ways it felt quiet with reception areas basically shut down for evenings and the weekend, and very few of us in the surgical center's waiting room.Appreciated the free coffee and tea in various waiting areas and many easy-to-find restrooms. The cafeteria's open for breakfast and lunch, plus a (fairly intuitive) 24/7 self-service market for snacks and refrigerated sandwiches, salads, etc. A little challenging to find space to stroll (inside or outside) if you want to move around while passing time, and it would be nice if there were sidewalks connecting all the various parking lots, but we managed to cautiously do laps through the lots and crossed paths with a couple other folks doing the same. There was ample parking relative to the main entrance when we were there.
David Rodgers: If you don't have an obvious medical condition such as a bone sticking through your skin you'll need to seek help elsewhere ; they are definitely not medical detectives .
Diana Fogle: My sister was taken to St. Luke's Des Peres hospital, she was very sick. They told us within 20 minutes that she was in kidney failure. Several hours later she was admitted to the hospital. She was very sick and her body was so swollen that she could not bend her legs or put weight on her feet. They had convinced her that her kidney damage was her fault from taking ibuprofen. Dr. Angelin the hospitalist called me and told me to come and pick her up. They had her scheduled to go to dialysis Mon., Wed., and Fri. at 6:00 a.m. I told him that she would not be able to take care of herself (she's a widow) since she was in so much pain and would not be able to get in and out of a car to get to dialysis. She did not have anyone that could her her there 3 times a week at 6:00 and wait 4 hours to get her back home. He told me "that is what family and friends are for". I explained that the time of day and the cost of getting her dialysis would be a hardship on us that she needed to go to a rehab facility where they are equipped to get her to dialysis until she would be able to do it herself. He told me that they were not going to send her to rehab and asked " So are you just going to let her die because it is a hardship?" Shame on you Dr. Angelin, shame on you! That statement was very cold and hurtful. We did take her home and she ended up back in the hospital a day later. Come to find out she was eaten up with cancer and was in kidney failure due to the cancer which they never found at St. Luke's. My sister has now passed away after a long 7 month battle. I will never forget the hurtful words Dr. Angelin said to me and I will never forget how sad my sister was when they told her that she had done to kidney damage to herself.
Gary Reim: Great experience at the ER this weekend. Nurses took care of me quickly and the ER doc did a bang-up job.
C B: Great physicians. They found a clot in my Father's heart. He was out the next day and so happy to have his Life back. The Lord has blessed the men and women here to be miracle workers. Shine on, in the life saving work you perform daily, and know miracles happen everyday through your minds and hands. The Creator has shared His secrets with You. You are an awesome team.
Gary Law: Cannot say enough about the staff. Everyone was so kind and professional. They treated me like family. Thank you all so much
Courtney Tutka: This hospital was amazing! The staff at this hospital was so nice and caring. I’m so happy I drove from Illinois to Missouri! Better than going to Anderson Hospital in Maryville Illinois! Totally worth the drive
Elmer Bayless: The ER wait was short and the MD was great the first RN I had was very rude,, another RN got me a bed as I was staying in ER no beds upstairs but he forgot to give me the call light. My day RN Tammy was awesome got me a walker and applied 02 as my sats were in the 80's. not the md that discharged with no pain meds and I just had a Kyphoplasty and my 02 was still in the 80's. I was @ st lukes 2 days prior and got much better tx. Why would you send someone hope with low o is beyond me and no pain meds thankfully I still has some from St lukes no I won't be back unless I have no other choice I will be going to St Lukes or Mercy
Johanna Doll: Spent several days here as an inpatient and also 2 ER visits. Horrible experience all 3 times. ER dr was unprofessional and not helpful. Absolutely zero privacy in ER. I could hear everything that was said for all the patients near me. Hospital beds were full so had to sleep in the hallway next to a phone that rang every 3 minutes. One staff member, who was performing a procedure using “sterile technique” reached down and grabbed the leg of her chair in her “sterile” gloves and then went right back to doing the procedure. I would avoid this hospital at all costs!
