Unity Hospice and Palliative Care: what do users think?
Cynthia Mercer: We were reassured time and again by Unity Hospice staff of my mother's continued eligibility to remain in the hospice care program due to my mother's failing health condition; however, shortly following a nurse practitioner telling us she was recertifying my mother to remain within hospice care, we were informed by a different hospice staff that my mother was going to be discharged.Needless to say, we were shocked at how the reassuring information we had been receiving that my mother continued to meet the criteria to remain within the hospice program was abruptly replaced with the news of my mother's discharge.Ten days have lapsed since we were informed of my mother's upcoming discharge and we are still waiting for some type of informational discharge paperwork explaining the discharge process more thoroughly. This is a horrific experience for our family to endure having received inconsistent information from Unity Hospice staff about the direction of my mother's care plan. After speaking with the medical director earlier this evening when she returned my call, I asked her if Unity Hospice provides discharge paperwork or a pamphlet of some sort we could read here at home and maybe gain a fuller understanding of the discharge process including, but not limited to my mother's appeal rights. The medical director said she was sure we had already been given that discharge information when we clearly had not. I asked her if there were forms my dad would need to sign, etc., and mentioned that it would be helpful if the forms could be explained once someone provides those to us.We feel terribly lost, abandoned, misinformed, confused, and sad. This process is emotionally painful enough with my mother's failing health condition without having the hospice agency who is supposed to be providing the 'comfort care' make the decision to abruptly extinguish the relationship. We feel lost and do not understand why things have been handled this way.Additionally, earlier this afternoon, an intake representative from a different hospice agency spoke with me about details of my mother's medical information which she had received from Unity hospice. When I asked the medical director at Unity about this matter, she responded by saying Unity sent the information to the other hospice agency that the other agency requested. The medical director then stated Unity sent no nurse's notes to the other hospice agency, but did send nurse practitioner's notes and my mother's plan of care.My question is why would my mother's medical information protected through HIPPA be disclosed to anyone without my mother's permission?Something is seriously wrong with this entire experience.
Adelle perkelvald: Amazing service and best staff! Would definitely recommend Unity Hospice to friends and family!
Jennifer Adamson: It has been over 24 hours since my dad was brought home and this company was supposed to come by. We keep calling to ask for them to come by with promises someone is on their way and nobody has. Absolutely ridiculous.
Leslie Wolter: My family’s recent encounter with Unity Hospice is the worst experience we have ever had. My Mother was desperately anxious, terrified, and in pain for the final two days of her life and my Father, sister, and I could do nothing but repeatedly call the switchboard number provided to us and beg for assistance. I won’t detail everything that transpired; to do so is too painful. For anyone considering using this business to ease your loved one’s transition from this life: DO NOT DO IT. My family and I are left with terrible memories and regret that we did not have more time to research and select a suitable hospice. While my Mother was facing her imminent death and we were trying to provide relief to her, this business did not call us, did not return our calls multiple times, did not provide medicinal relief that was desperately needed in a timely manner, did not deliver items that we requested to ease her passing, did not reassure or comfort us or our Mother at this crucial time. They were not there when she was begging and screaming for help. What they did do is show up late, tell unprofessional and alarming stories about hallucinations their past patients had while dying (Caseworker Nurse), encourage us to “enjoy this wonderful family time together” while reading questions from a worksheet and checking off boxes (Chaplain), and leave us feeling panicked, bereft, and totally unsupported. To top it off, after my Mother’s traumatic passing, I have called three times to ask about Grief Counseling for my Father, who has lost his wife of 54 years. I have yet to receive a call back, a week and a half after my Mother’s death. In retrospect, it would have been better to skip the hospice and know that my family was alone on this journey. We were indeed alone, but we were deluded into thinking that help was coming. I wouldn’t wish the experience of dealing with this business on my worst enemy.
Lynn Stromsdorfer: We are so fortunate to have Lisa Q. visit with us and bring joy to the residents in our community. She's so thoughtful and remembers the little things that make everyone around her feel special. Thank you, Lisa and Unity Hospice for all you do for us and every family you touch!
Karen S: Unity Hospice was involved in the care of my mom and my dad while they were in a nursing home (mom for 2 months, dad for approximately 15 months). Not only did they provide my parents wonderful care and compassion but they also took the time to check in with me every 1-2 weeks to see how I was holding up during those difficult times. I cannot say enough about their kindness. I will always be grateful.
Danielle Martin: I used unity hopsice for my father. Our home visit nurse was amazing! So kind, but also a good stern voice when i needed it. Our shower aide was the sweetest person on earth.I was very blessed to have them help me care for my father.

Comfort Hospice: what do users think?
Jeanne Roy: Comfort Hospice helped me when my mother was on hospice. The people there Exceeded my expectations. They were professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. They took an interest in my mother's care from the beginning. When my mom passed, all of the individuals from Comfort Hospice who had been helping me came to the house when she died and stayed with me until my mom was transported out of the home. I cannot say enough good things about Comfort Hospice. The people are sincere regarding the empathy they showed my mother and myself. They did what they initially told me they would do and even went above and beyond. If you need a hospice group, it's your choice, do not pass up this group. thank you Comfort Hospice!!🤗 😊

AccentCare | Hospice & Palliative Care - Greater St. Louis: what do users think?
Stephanie Bush: Accent , formerly called Seasons, was highly recommended to us from a health care worker. Unfortunately, our experience for my mother was sub optimal. Namely, we had to make repeated follow up calls for a catheter after being told people would get back to us. Her catheter was provided 12 hours later eg middle of night! In addition, her comfort package came late and we were assigned a nurse who was leaving for vacation in 2 days. Further, we experienced ofher inconveniences during my mother’s end of life. The nurses who, ultimately, visited were competent and friendly Unfortunately, once my mother passed away, only one nurse was sent to their home and the poor nurse had to call upon us to help her move my mother! My sister and brother in law had to assist her—- after my mother’s passing! This was a traumatic situation. Suffice to say, we do not recommend this hospice firm.
Dave: Worst experience at the worst time of my wife's (and my) life . Due to my wife's diagnosis with a life expectancy of 4-6 weeks we met as soon as possible. I should of looked into another hospice care giver as I had a bad feeling from the very beginning as they didn't show up for our initial appointment. I decided to give them a second chance because Seasons hospice care came highly recommended. Evidently Seasons and AccentCare merged and become one. We met initially and were made promises that they would be there were when we needed them....... HA What a joke!!!!!! The first couple of weeks went well as my wife was still able to get around and take care of herself. We were getting by and she was still content without med's and we were able to still get by "happily". As my wife's condition was worsening on the 5th of January I called the main number to tell them we need to meet as things are starting to decline. I/we met both the nurse assigned and the case worker on 1/6 to try and get a plan into place as far as what we need to do next. I was promised an appointment by the "weekend" nurse on the 7th. On the 7th I received a phone call from the "weekend" nurse (only one according to her) and was told she was only instructed to call to check in, and I told her that I was promised a visit and she came by. On the 9th our assigned nurse showed up and finally realized things were going bad. She also showed up 1 time on the 10th & 11th to "check vitals". On the 11th I was instructed to star administering pain reliver every 3 hours. I stayed up all night on the 11th-12th administering the medications as directed. At 6 AM on the 12th I called the "hotline" stating we needed to do something as I am doing as instructed as it isn't working. At 9 AM on the 12th I received a phone call from our assigned nurse. She asked about what was going on and offered to show up later in the day. I told her I needed help immediately. She showed up a few minutes before 10 AM to find my wife dead... Going on 5 days later I have yet to receive a phone call asking if I need anything. DON"T make the same mistake I did!
Rachel Webb: They provided excellent care during my father's final weeks. The medical equipment was super helpful. I did knock off a star due to a piece of equipment that wasn't delivered, but other than that their service was prompt. When we needed a repair, they handled it swiftly.More importantly are the people. They made sure my dad was comfortable and that our family's emotional and spiritual needs were met. I would definitely recommend. Especially loved the chaplain and the music therapy services!
Rebecca Caldwell: I don't typically write reviews but felt I must for AccentCare! They truly went above and beyond our my mom! Torie was a godsend! We quickly had to be moved to a facility and she helped make it happen seamlessly! We didn't even have time to buy sheets for my mom hospital bed so she went and purchased some for us so that when my mom arrived she would have beautiful flowered sheets! She also even took time to come to our mom's funeral, so sweet! We loved the nurse, Dee. She was a great comfort to my sister and me each day! We always looked forward to her visits. She gave us great information, comfort, and kind words! We also loved the music therapy that AccentCare provided. Jonathan and Molly sang like angels! You wouldn't think at this time that you need music therapy, but you do! It was a blessing!
Danita Smith: Very caring and professional
Bob Muehlenbrock: Horrible company. From the initial meeting with the person who started the paper work was close to an hour late, through the entire process, the only communication we received was we're sorry. Well all our family can say, is we're sorry we ever chose this company for our fathers care.
Mike: These nurses are without a doubt the most caring and dedicated people I have ever met. The other staff members are equally helpful and encouraging. They helped my wife and me through the most difficult of times with encouragement and professionalism. I will never forget.
Jen O'Hara Johnson: I work alongside Seasons Hospice frequently as a Care Manager at Assistance Home Care for my clients. Seasons has a wonderful person centered approach to end of life care needs. Their services not only support those who are terminally ill transition comfortably, but Seasons also provides support to families as well. They respond quickly, communicate well, and most importantly bring peace of mind. They are a wonderful resource!
Heather Brennan: This hospice company is amazing. They were there with support for my grandma and our family throughout this difficult time. Seasons gave my grandma the best care that we could have asked for.
Francine Boyd: This was not a good service at all half the time I did not see a nurse social worker I did not understand what her job was the only thing with her was to tell me to stop my love meds.I told them in the beginning I was not going to stop his meds and let him suffer and keep him on morphine this company sucks
Tierra Robinson: Not a good service at all. DON'T USE THIS SERVICE!!

Mercy Hospice - 1630 Des Peres: what do users think?
Ann Fronek O'Connell: Wonderful, dedicated caregivers providing extraordinary care.
Paul Becker: This is a strange place to review, I know, but I have nothing but great things to say about these people. EVERYONE that my family encountered was respectful, professional, and very kind. The emergency phone nurses were very helpful too. My wife was treated with the utmost respect and dignity and was given expert care with her terminal illness.
Joanne Reding: Horrible communication. Both Julie and Dianne are rude and difficult. They are quick to tell you one thing and do not follow up with what they say they will do. Constantly interrupt and won’t listen to help. They just want to get you off the phone. They don’t use their hospice Medical Director to help with my dad’s meds. For so many reasons, I suggest finding another hospice company for your loved one. They ordered Plavix and moraphine and I quickly learned from the pharmacist that it’s contraindicated - they don’t work together. It took 2 days for them to clear it up with the pharmacy. The list goes on and on and it’s only day 4 with them.

Mercy Hospice South - de Greeff Hospice House: what do users think?
Jackie Fischer: We cannot say enough good things about this hospice house. At a time that is so difficult, the care teams are amazing. If they heard accolades everyday, it still wouldn’t be enough. My father in law was there for a week. Everyone that cared for him knew us by name. He was treated with care and respect. His primary nurse Cathy was the absolute best- for him & us!! Sr. Maria and nurse Lisa were other nurses that took wonderful care of him and us. I was so fortunate to have Cathy & Sr Maria by my side as we said goodbye. We will never forget how they made us feel at such a difficult time.
Jennifer Ficken: They took very good care of my mom in her final days. Staff was so caring, informative and very conscious of our family and of my mom. I can't say enough about the care we were given. Wish I could give 10 stars!
Dave Doerr: My daughter was at this facility for 26 days before she passed, the care my daughter Merissa had was exceptional, caring, and attractive! To ALL the staff, doctor, and especially the Nurses, THANK YOU!
Brittany Mims: Very rude, unprofessional & careless people!!!
Patricia Craig: Our mother spent over 2 months here and the care she received was exceptional. All of the staff and volunteers were compassionate and loving to mom during her stay. The emotional support provided to her, and to family, was a source of strength on the hardest days. We are so grateful for the care mom received here.
Lester Scrugs: We made the decision to place my father here in June for the last 6 days of his life. Everyone was so wonderful to us asking very thorough questions about his condition/medication/what he liked to eat and explaining everything at check-in. The staff was always so gracious to us and always explained how his condition was doing. The nurses even learned that he preferred to lay on his right side and would make sure he was comfortable after they had to come and move him around. Thank you for the care and respect shown to us and my father in his last days.
Dave Kennedy: Good support.
Janet Williams: Our mother spent a month in this lovely and caring place in her last days - quiet and serene and wonderful nurses - I would highly recommend it.
Kitty Meow: grandpa died here, it’s alright
Cheryl Schnell: The best kept secret in South County! What a wonderful place and staff. If I ever have the need I want to be here.
Kristin Guile: Wonderfully warm, kind, attentive staff.
Gina Green: I have to say that the staff there was very good with mom. The only thing that disappointed me and my family is the fact that no one reached out to us after we walked out the door following moms death. They have a bereavement counselor and a chaplain and when you’re going through something you would think they would reach out to you after the fact like other hospice companies do. It has been one month Mercy/ Degreef. For myself, my church bereavement group took your spot.
Lisa Grus: I give 2 stars because I believe the de Greef house does offer a nice service IF your loved one enters. I approached de Greef house for my mom who was dying. I completed all paperwork and supplied all needed information. I never heard back from the social worker to let me know any status and my mom passed. During a loved one dying to tour & do all steps to apply and not hear anything is a very sad experience. We were trying to explore options for our moms last days and to have no response or follow up from the social worker of de Greef house post our application should not have happened. They should be sensitive & service oriented to assist families during the hardest days of their lives.
Alvin Cortner: Great place to go die
Kevin: My Father recently spent his final 3 days at De Greeff. I cannot begin to tell how grateful we are to the highly experienced Nursing staff and the sincerity and affection they showed toward our father and family. They were with us from the minute he entered until his final breath. Although we grieve badly his passing, we are so thankful for all the staff and volunteers (including Fred the black lab)!!! God Bless all the staff there!
Sean Sullivan: My Father had end-stage COPD in June 2006 and finally admitted to me, after I tried to take care of him myself at home, that he was ready for hospice. Everyone at de Greeff was wonderful to him and my family, especially Bill Sinak. So much so that I asked Bill to preside over my Father's graveside service. My Father was only there for 3 days but he was made comfortable and cared for with the utmost dignity and respect. I would recommend this facility to anyone who is in need of their services.
Michael Whitney (papamonkey): One of the worst hospice experiences we have ever had. Would NOT recommend this place to anyone. We were treated rudely and without compassion as we spent our last moments with our loved one.
