Myrna Paulissen: I have been wanting to get my grandfather clock repaired for some time. I called Clock Repair by Victor and Victor drove to my location (which was in SW Illinois) that afternoon. I was impressed with his sense of urgency to respond so quickly to my call. Once Victor arrived he immediately went to work diagnosing my clock's issues. Victor took the time to explain to us the why, how, and what could be done to get my clock back into operation. He also explained in detail, the intricate workings of the mechanical parts of our clock and how he could restore them to avoid any future issues, using the best available parts. Again, I was impressed with his knowledge and skill set.Victor returned a few weeks later and installed the restored clock parts and set up the clock in working order. He took time to explain to us how to properly wind the clock, set the various dials, and how to make any other future adjustments. I am very satisfied with his workmanship and am enjoying my family heirloom once again. Robert M: I recently used Victor to repair a Chime Clock that has been in my family for some time. The hour hand was coming lose and the timing was a bit off. I set up an appointment with Victor and went to his home/shop where he quickly fixed my issue, as well as explained some of the small things i should do to keep the clock running well (ex. clock needs to be oiled every 2 years - i didn't know there was a need for regular servicing).In the past when i have had needed servicing on this clock i had to drop it off and often they would keep it for several weeks before returning it to me. Fortunately, this service with Victor was able to be handled that same day.All in all, great service and i appreciated the added explanations that he provided while working on the clock.

Then this December when it stopped working again, Victor told us it needed to be refurbished. He took the guts of the clock to his shop for repair and returned to us a “like new “ working clock. Then tried several times to retrieve my clock at the store, only to find no one there on premises. Finally contacted the BBB to report his lack of service. At long last "he" called me to come and pick up my clock (not repaired)! When I returned to the shop, he could not find it, at which time I pointed out it was behind the counter in the exact spot that he placed it 5 months prior when I dropped it off. DO NOT GO THERE.
JR Hill: Owner stole my clock. I took my cuckoo clock to helens clocks for a tune up. After not hearing from the shop I stopped in several times to get status update. Each time there was another excuse. Last time I stopped by owner told me he could find my clock. He basically stole my clock. Buyer beware. The shop is most shady.
Claire H.: My actual dealing with this establishment happened last year but I didn't realize the damage he caused until now. I took my clock in for an estimate last year. It took him several weeks before I was given an estimate. Then after he gave me the estimate, he gave me an 8 week finish date. That was fine. Stopped by two times during the hours posted on his door but he wasn't there. Finally called him and he couldn't find my clock. He found my clock, and of course it wasn't finished. After another two weeks, I went to go pick it up and crystal total fell out of the door. He told me to take the clock back like that (without the glass being in). I told him I wanted my clock back the way I brought it in. He adhered it with some clear silicone. A sloppy job and wasn't centered on the face of the clock, etc. Took it to a reputable clock repairman this week and he showed me the crystal is too small!!! So apparently, Helen's Clock broke the original crystal and didn't tell me! Don't take any clocks there for repairs! It'll just "tick" you off!

The store operator was friendly and informative and the free estimate only took a few days. The repair was simple and was completed within the same hour I got the estimate call back. The watch was opened and so a pressure test was included which was nice. They had the parts needed in stock too. Nice selection of Hadley Roma bracelets/bands too in store if you need something basic. Will definitely recommend to my dad who has more expensive pieces when he inevitably needs them serviced.

Sarah Pool: If you want to spend hours waiting for the lady to stop talking to the customer in line behind you and you want to be accused of having a wall "not plume". A wall that the clock hung on for 30 years with no problem, then have them replace your movement. Then you can listen to the pendulum hitting the sides of the clock and keep going back and telling them the pendulum is hitting and they never fix it, then go here.

C B Holmes: We have two antique clocks and there’s no one in St. Louis we trust more than American and International Clock- they literally brought our clocks back to life. Our 1890 French antique clock hadn’t run for years and they fixed it in 2010 and it has been running beautifully ever since. Our 1900 Seth Thomas was missing some parts when we bought it and they found the replacements and got it running in no time. We bring them in for maintenance and it’s always a pleasure to salivate over their collection of vintage clocks!!

Our cherished 100-year-old German grandfather clock was running perfectly when it was disassembled and packed by so called “professionals” in our home and shipped to St. Louis. When our clock arrived and assembled by the same moving “professionals”, it did not keep time or chime. The moving company sent two different local clock repair companies to inspect it, neither could diagnose or they miss diagnosed why our clock was not working properly.Then, fortunately, we found Jane and David. After talking with Jane, David came out the next day! David quickly identified the issues with our clock, repaired it on the spot, and preformed standard maintenance. The price? More than fair!Jane and David are the consummate trustworthy experts we needed to inspect and repair our valuable heirloom timepiece. R Farrell: Observations on a series of watch repairs and passport photos by Dan Hoadley, proprietor. Dear Googlers, I always enjoy finding a hidden treasure. "About Time" is certainly a hidden treasure. It is the only watch, clock, and photo studio I have ever visited. Located in Webster Groves, MO on Big Bend Road, it is like going back to a time when people took pride in their craft. I watched Mr. Hoadley repair a few wristwatches from the 70s and 80s while waiting for my photos. I heard him say that, "he is there for people are old fashioned enough to care" [about their clocks, watches, and photos]. We have become a disposable culture in these United States. It is soul renewing to dwell among someone who actually loves clocks, watches, and photos and can repair them rather then send them to a landfill. His shop is right out of a novel. It is clean and well loved and just a little bit quirky. It is part museum, part workshop, and 100% interesting. Mr. Hoadley has a patient bedside manner and can thoughtfully and politefully answer all your questions. His knowledge is encyclopedic on several subjects, including passport photos for a hundred countries. I was there to get official photos for Canada. He has binders that document over 40 years of experience in the various and endlessly changing requirements for international document photos. Need a passport photo for Morocco? He has you covered. What are the exact dimensions of the face and is the right ear showing on the Canadian Residency photo? That is right, he has it within quick grasp and it is current. I usually don't like to wait around while getting something repaired. I would make an exception for About Time -- you will be thrilled you did. I give Mr. Dan Hoadley six golden wristwatches for my grade. Please get your watches and photos here -- he is a local treasure that we need to support.

Justin: Guy tried to rip me off on a Rolex wouldn't give me the serial numbers nor the production numbers; REFUSED to actually confirm that it was a Rolex by taking the back off, but told me what he'd give me for it. DO NOT SAY YOUWANT TO KNKW ITS WORTH, SAY YOU WANT WHAT IT WOULD SELL FOR AND INSURANCE VALUE.Update-Went to the Rolex dealer in Ellisville- confirmed it to be authentic, but difficult to appraise due to the rarity of then American made Rolex bracelet in a very large man's stretch band size fro. 7-72). Gave it an insurance replacement value of 12,000, but said that it could be more or less (he said that he didn't have people walk in asking about Rolex and their tarrif on gold import Era bracelet manufacture watches (the body is a 68 white gold oyster perpetualwith machined bezel), two tone rose gold and stainless band). He said that it was an item that a collector would be looking for to complete a collection. The guy at time keepers offered me 1,000 for the watch.

I’ve owned a JDM imported Seiko SARB017 Alpinist for a few years - while it’s not a Rolex, it’s still a very special watch to me. The 6r15 movement was running around 40 seconds slow a day when it was brought in for an adjustment, we’re now at -3 seconds a day! The team took incredible care of my watch while it was in for service, and now I’m falling in love with my Alpinist again.Whether your watch is new or old, I would highly recommend their expertise!
