REI: what do users think?
Kevin Straughter: I’m sad to say that my experience at this location hasn’t been so well. Whenever I’ve gone to this location Im always overlooked or not acknowledged. I once had to return a pair of Solomon hiking boots and when I went to return them you would’ve think that I stole them instead of purchasing them. This time around I ordered a pair of Timberland boots online and I had to pick them up at this location. The only person to acknowledge me was the cashier who checked me out. However I notice that all the other customers who didn’t look like me was being ask was everything okay. Even the employees who weren’t helping other customers didn’t acknowledge me. I guess I will try another location or take my business elsewhere. REI really needs to do better on diversity and treating all customers the same at this location.
Tony Zebrowski: Hopefully Merrill doesn't have some kind of exclusive contract with REI to sell their shoes, because I am fed up with their shoe department. I have been there twice now in the last month trying to buy my particular Merrill shoe that I enjoy, but I cannot get service. Today the guy completely blew me off and though he said he'd be with me in a second, he disappeared into the clothing section with another customer. I used to sell shoes at Finish Line and I could certainly work with more than one customer at once. The disappointment as a longterm member and credit card holder cannot be understated, but REI is no longer committed to selling shoes, there I am no longer committed to buying from them.
Malia Johnson: I just came to try on shoes without intending on buying anything, yet the employees were completely understanding and still helped me find some options for good, comfortable shoes. Shout out to Brett for helping me out!
J L: Love REI. Great gear, great quality. Today However, not so much. Wait at the shoe department for my turn. Young man gets me shoes to try on, then tells me it's time for his lunch and leaves. All the other sales staff is busily engaged, so I guess I'm supposed to wait till his lunch is over. If it's time for lunch don't take another customer. If you do take a customer, then realize it's lunch time, do a handoff of the customer to another staff member. Just my thoughts. Didn't get any shoes today, would have liked to try some others. Oh well.
Cody Cummings: I’ve been to a ton of REI locations across the US and this one was great. Everyone was really quick to offer their knowledge and honest opinions on products and apparel.
gary deutsch: Nothing in there that interested me
John Weeks: Excellent customer service - went today to get fitted for a backpack I had bought on their website. I was helped by Betsy, who went above and beyond to make sure I had as good of a fit as possible. She also provided a lot of background information that was really helpful. Highly recommend this store.
Mary Baker: Love REI. Great products, everyone is helpful and friendly.
Rachel S: A smaller but well organized REI. It wasn't too busy so we were able to easily get help from staff when we asked. They also have a bike shop and used gear sales.
Peter Qumsiyeh: First time there. Similar to Bass Pro or Cabela’s. Great deals on running shoes.
Matt S: Every time I come in I remember why this is the only place I go for gear. Bob in the shoe department is a G! Cashed in my dividend and saved 30 bucks. REI rocks. Can’t wait to break in my new hikers.
American Lover: You want to hike and camp after walking inside. We went to shop next door, walked inside, and were inspired. REI is incredible. Experience the process of planning your next camping trip after you shop inside REI.
Brian Stovall: Great gear. Pricey but worth it on most things.Staff oversold (pressured) me several times in the store to sign up for their rewards program.
Robert Washburn: I like REI, they carry quality lines of products. You can find cheaper stuff elsewhere, but REI and their vendors stand behind their products for a reason.
Karen Sanders: The gentleman who helped me with hiking boots this evening was excellent.
Greg Crewell: Love it! Lots of selection and great customer service.
Leila Sardari: Very rude staff! Make sure you put your brand clothes on when you go there. I liked a bike for my 4 year old at this store and finally got a chance to take him there. He loved it! I asked my kid to sit on the little training bike to give it a test ride. He rode it around a bit, my fault! this guy came to us like we have been violating the trafic rules and been putting lives in danger… I felt so embarrassed! And immediately asked my child to get off the bike, the guy is following us to make sure we put the bike in it’s right place! I ended up telling my kid that the guy has bad manners and we can’t buy it from here! I’m never going back again.
Rebecca Harding: I literally just walked out. Went to purchase a pair of low collar running shoes. The associate, who seemed very friendly to the customer he served just before me, was less than enthusiastic about helping me. Didn’t offer to look for something else or offer suggestions when he didn’t have the color that I was looking for. Lost a $200 sale and a customer.
Mark Whelan: I purchased over $500 worth of goods at the REI on Brentwood in St. Louis, MO today. I was informed (after I made the purchase) that not only did they not have gift boxes for the items, they did not have bags at all, as part of their zero carbon footprint policy. I would have to carry all my purchases out to my car in the pouring rain with no protection for any of it. I understand the NCF policy but this is taking it a little too far. At the very least, they should offer reusable shopping bags at a small cost. It may not have bothered me as much if I hadn't noticed while shopping that the young staff asked all the younger shoppers if they needed help but not one of them asked me if i needed help or even made eye contact. I am in my late 60's. Not a great experience overall.
Mary Anm Hunziker: I had a very bad experience. The gentleman was very condescending. I will never go back!
Tad Hylkema: Gotta give a shout out to PJ on the register. He had a great attitude and joked with us as we checked out. We left with a smile on our faces as well as a deal on shoes!

Alpine Shop - Kirkwood, MO: what do users think?
Kyle Mann: Worst place to buy shoes. They maje comission and are reluctant to allow you to test shoes. Try Big River, Fleet Feet, Running Niche, REI, or even Amazon before shopping for shoes here.
Dave C: We were trying to find a trekking pole to match one that my wife already owned - and this store had it!Seems like a trivial thing maybe, but they shipped it out right away and it was a perfect match! Thanks VERY much!
greg9642: A+ experience. Ask for Spencer and he will hook you right up.
Scott Perdue: I got my mountain bike cleaned here and it appears that they contaminated my brake pads with something (probably chain lube) and now my brakes squeal terribly. I'll probably have to replace the pads to fix it, but I think I'll be taking it elsewhere for that.
John Randall: I brought my dad in for the Spring Showcase in April to look at Kayak’s. Ben was very knowledgeable and honestly an asset to anyone interested in outdoor recreation. Our new Jackson Kayak won’t be the last thing we buy here. Thanks for all of the help Ben.
Bob Hines: A great local place to get all of your outdoor needs. Friendly and knowledgeable staff always willing to help you find exactly what you are looking for.
Brandon: Shop local! Awesome staff very friendly and informative. Will return for my outdoor needs.
Chris Doebert: Best place for anything snow in St. Louis. I've been reliably buying gear from them for years. The people there always hook me up and I've never been disappointed.
Bradlb03: Went to get fitted for ski boots and to get bindings mounted, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a business. Even though it was incredibly busy and they were short staffed, everyone was extremely friendly. I ended up leaving with exactly what I came for.
Leigh Hellrung: Great selection, awesome service. There was a bin full of drinks at the door in case you were thirsty!
KING OFSTADIA: Great Store, a bit on the pricey side but completely expected.....
Sean Zalmanoff: There was a mistake made with a couple pairs of bindings and skis. The "mistake" ended up being OK, but Eric and the rest of the guys in the ski department owned it and made the experience positive. We had a good resolution, but they offered to do really anything I wanted. It was great to deal with people do the right thing!
Kevin Guo: Great for ski and snowboard stuff
Susan Pregon: Best Hiking Everything! From clothing to shoes. Alpine shop has itBest part is the service. All staff are fabulous, but a special shout out to Sye and Angie, who helped me time and again, to fix a pesky hiking shoe fitting issue . They are super amazing!
karen mccoy: Very helpful sales people, both on the phone and in person. Thanks, Maria, for helping me find the perfect trekking stick with a dual-function handle that functions as either a stick or a cane. Great local business.
lance alfredson: I had such a great experience with an online order . None of the mega camping sites had the backpack, I wanted, in all 3 colors available. Caleb put me on hold went and personally verified they had all 3 colors, took my order and shipped them the same day!! I will definitely recommend to friends and absolutely use this shop as much as possible!!
C Pope: My goto shop for disc golf supplies! This is a really fun store to browse in. They also have a really good bike department. We have brought our bikes in now and then for service and they always do a great job. The bikes are also ready when promised. Their staff is helpful if you have questions. I highly recommend this place for all your outdoor needs. They are great!
Mike Wildhaber: This is the place to go if you want quality stuff . I bought a pair of hiking/ casual shoes 👞 a nd they are super nice.
Matt Morrison: Eric helped me pick my kayak, paddle, and cart. Showed me how to strap my boat in my truck. Very helpful great local business to support
Thomas Kibbee: I had a relatively simple need for a specialized washer. The bike manufacturer would take forever to get it to me so I popped into the Alpine. They tossed me one and I am going to make sure they are lauded for the assistance. If you need sports related items, go there.Want to learn a new sport, get to the Alpine.Bored? Buy a pizza and share with those guys. They will entertain you.
Pavel Mykhaylenko: Receiving hours 9 to 5 .
