Chiagozie Okoye: Beyond phenomenal work; I’d give this place more than 5 stars if I could. I called around 10:30 in the morning asking if they had any spots available and they were able to get me in at 12 noon. I got there and they got me in the chair quickly. My barber was Zach. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he walked me briefly through the process. Throughout the cut, Zach checked in with me to see if I wanted it shorter here, sharper there, etc. He made friendly conversation, wonderful guy. He went above and beyond what I normally expect of a cut, using scissors to get any loose hairs and even fixing my eyebrows with the razor. The haircut was $30 and $5 for beard. He got me done in a little under an hour. Absolutely wonderful job.

CC Lee: EDIT: The owner of the shop contacted me and came in on her closed day (Sunday) to fix my hair. She did an amazing job and talked me through Solutions for the regrowth.-This was the worst experience I've ever had. I'd been here before and went to Kristen? I think thats her name, she's a woman and she did amazing. But I went yesterday to a man named Aaron and he butchered my hair. I've been growing my hair from a bald state for 2.5 years. I got an undercut from Kristen and it looked amazing. Well this man, all he had to do was follow her lines but instead he takes his razor and drags them up through my ponytail, shaves off one side of my baby hairs and gives me the worst fade I'd ever seen. I am a woman with long curly hair and now I am at a great clips so they can shave me bald once again. I would not recommend going here unless you're seeing the blonde lady. I wish I would have fought back and not paid. I'm literally traumatized.Service:Haircut

P. Dowden-White: I'd worn locs for 36 years and my hair was weighing me down physically and otherwise. So, I was beyond ready for my locs to go. I was really concerned about the thinning I've experienced over the years, especially from traction alopecia caused by years of wearing my locs up in styles that caused tension on my scalp and hairline. I can hardly put into words how free and happy I feel as a result of the haircut I received today from Katrina. She is simply the best. It took me a while to find the barber/stylist that I felt I could trust. Katrina listened carefully to my concerns, made me feel completely comfortable, and quickly gained my confidence as she talked to me about my hair. Her confidence became my confidence as she assured me that we could accomplish the cut I desired. I couldn't be more pleased with the result and the overall service I received from the time I walked through the door. I've made a standing two week appointment with Katrina. Aaron (the other barber on duty) was finishing up a patron, who had a smile on his face when he got up from the chair. So, I would recommend considering him for your hair needs, too. Ginger Kensington: Really hate writing bad reviews but I feel that sometimes information needs to be communicated for the public good. I live close by and the only reason I tried this place out is because I’m trying to minimize my car use and patronize more local businesses in my neighborhood. And the price!! You get what you pay for, I guess.I’m very relaxed with my expectations and get a very basic cut. Numbered clippers on the sides, scissors on the top and blended. Just like 70% of younger guys these days. All I ask is for a neat cut because I am a professional and work with the public. Nothing fancy, outrageous or complicated. I told the barber what I wanted and got a positive affirmation (seemingly understanding what I wanted), but he immediately started going at my top WITH CLIPPERS. I stopped him right away but of course a chunk of the top had already been clipped off way too short. I stayed polite and said it was no big deal, ill just get the whole top shorter now. Everything else seemed to go fine until I felt him use the guardless edges on my edges and it felt way too high. Turned out he took off a solid quarter inch of my hairline on the sides and an inch on my neckline. No joke, people started asking me if I tried to cut my hair myself because the unnatural lines make me look like a cartoon character.Sadly, I will not be returning to this barbershop and will have to look elsewhere while I live with this nightmare growing back until its long enough to fix somewhere else. For 7.75 its not even worth going back for a refund…

Ricky Nyhoff: My hair style is fairly straightforward, long on the top and faded short on the side. I asked for a trim with 1 inch off the top and a fade (3 to 6) on the sides. I ended up with no fade and a good portion of my long hair removed (about 4 inches taken off in places). No scissors were used, only clippers. I stopped the barber about 30 seconds into cutting as I could feel him taking off parts of my long hair. I clarified with him what I asked for and was met with strong verbal confidence that he knew what he was doing. I ended up with a different style than I walked in with and will have to wait 3-4 months for my hair to grow out before I can get it back to the way I like it. I wish the barber would have just been upfront with me and told me he couldn’t do it the way I requested.I was excited to support a charming, traditional style barbershop but I can’t recommend this shop.EDIT: Thanks for your words, John. I appreciate your concern on this. No need for a refund, you have a lot of great reviews on your shop so I assume I am an outlier. I just wish the barber would have been upfront with me on their ability to meet my request. I deal with a wide variety of clients in my work and am always happy to refer clients to someone else who fits them better than what I can provide.Your response to my review reveals a lot about your character, John. I've been more than satisfied every time I go in, and I'm surprised more people don't know about it.I always drove past the shop on a usual weekend excursion to Soulard. Curiosity got the best of me one day, so I decided to go in. Ever since that day four months ago, the Soulard Barber Shop has been my go-to spot for a haircut. John or Pol are always kind and courteous; they take their time to make sure you look good and are confident on your way out. Just recently, I asked John to do a buzz/skin fade (Fezco cut) that I liked from a show I saw, and he came through with a clean cut. Got multiple compliments from friends, and he made me feel confident with my hair and recent balding.More people, especially younger folks like myself, should check this place out. Nicholas Miller: I had a couple of undesirable experiences here, but the owner is so on top of things that she had it all taken care of. Basically, I had a bad haircut from someone there. Not naming them because it could have been an off day or whatever. I didn’t want to go back to them after that for obvious reasons though. The owner made sure the haircut was fixed and refunded. I scheduled another appointment with a random barber. This one I will name though — Emily. She switched my appointment to…get this…the first barber. She said it was so she could fit in one of her regulars. She did not inform me or anyone of this. The entire situation was awkward and gave me anxiety. Emily refused to help fix the situation, just tells me she moved me without warning and basically “too bad.” No apology either.Marie came over to me and offered to squeeze me in. I’m glad I took her up on it, because she gave an amazing haircut, and was so sweet and friendly.tl;dr:- Emily is rude and unprofessional- Marie is a fantastic barber and very nice- the owner is very cool

Construction Forum: First haircut out of the box since COVID-19, AND the stylist who had been cutting my hair since the '90s realized that his back didn't hurt anymore when he stopped cutting everyday. So he retired. I'm ecstatic that he gets to pursue his artwork, but I was more than a little bit wigged about making a change. Rachel is solid, she's professional, she's personable she listens well, and she wants to make this her thing for the rest of her career. I'm all over that. GO RACHEL! (Did I mention that she did a phenomenal job of cutting my hair?)

Luis Orozco: Their cancellation policy is extremely frustrating. You will be charged no matter what. Got sick the evening before an appointment. Tried canceling online so you know I wouldn’t be sick on the chair the next day. You can’t. Tried calling to reschedule, or cancel first thing in the morning and the manager was not flexible at all. He told me it’s a product I purchased when I made the appointment not when I got the haircut. Maybe the barbers are worth it here? But the service and policy was beyond frustrating so be warned.
Phillip Holland: Probably the best haircut I’ve ever received, if you don’t count the time I had tiger stripes and a rat tail in 3rd grade. Benny the Butcher is a pro. Hell yeah!

I’ve been coming here for a while and love the product; they know how to cut hair, but I always struggled with making appointments and walk-ins are very very VERY SLOW. It was going to be 3 stars but the last time I got a cut I was actually cut by the clippers. Idk if that’s normal or not but I prefer my hair getting cut, not my neck.
