Lucha Authentic Mexican Food: what do users think?
Elizabeth Anderson: The restaurant was busy due to a show at the Fox, of course, so our waitress let us know that our food would take 45 min and asked if we wanted an appetizer because they come out faster. We didn't realize that she meant an appetizer instead of our entrees until she brought us a check and by then it would have been too late to have her put in the original order.I wish she would have been a little clearer because she only ended up with a $2 tip on a $5 order of chips and salsa.Oh well, maybe next time!
Beth Slaboda: We decided to give this a try before a show on a Thursday night. Delicious!! We'll definitely be back!
Hope Baker: I was very disappointed! My chips were crumbled, my tacos (I wish I had taken a photo of those plain tacos) no toppings. I looked at the pictures of other people's tacos and mine did not have any of those toppings. I would have asked for some but the waiter never came back to the table...I felt so horrible being treated like I didn't exist. The service was so bad that I was going to leave without payment, because no one would come to the table.. Initially I was excited about eating there but that excitement came to a quick end. I will not return... EVER.
Martha Dahl: Our party of four arrived at 5:10 pm before a show at the Fox, Wicked which was to begin at 7:30 pm. Right across the street, plenty of time, NOPE! We barely made the show on time. It took a half hour to even get water for our table. We watched a server clean another table, seat a couple, get them water, take their order, deliver their food which they ate and left all before all of our food was delivered (each plate was brought separately, the first of the four was delivered at least 10-15 minutes before the other three salads). SALADS! Never again! As far as the food, what mexican restaurant serves a salad without cheese?
RyAnn Hudson: Menu prices are not what you will be charged. Description of the food was quesadilla and 2 sides. $5 add protein. We got charged 3 dollars more and was told it was for the sides. One member of our party didn’t even get sides and was still charged 3 dollars more. Check you bill carefully. Won’t be going back!
Justin Billingsley: Arrived at 430p and google said they were open (10-9?), they were not. Staff inside rolling flatware made eye contact but couldn’t be bothered to tell us when they opened.
P. Kelly T: Do yourself a favor and just go to Qdoba or Chipotle. This place has the absolute worst service and not too mention the food is extremely overpriced and not very good. They know people are going to go because of the Fox being across the street. Just don't fall for that.
Robert Winton: I got the California burrito for $20. The size was basically what you'd get at Chipolte. It was bland and mushy and boring. The black beans side could have been heated up from a can with no additional seasoning. And the white rice is boring white rice with green flecks in it. For the price I expected more. But it was just. Bland and boring.
Tenshi: Charged me for $4.50 for chips. I was shocked.
Josh Richards: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Chips & SalsaMore
Tom Krapu: Great experience. There on a Wednesday before a show at the Fox theater. The place was packed, but we got a table right away. The service was great but slow because of that circumstance. Great margaritas, got one of the shrimp dishes and it was really good. Got the three taco plate with black beans and spinach and mushrooms as a side. The black beans were kind of boring. The only taco we didn’t like was the beef one because the beef is pretty dry. The other tacos were amazing. Three different taco sauces. The green one was the most mild in the most flavorful. Will definitely be back still five stars.
Tay: The food was really good, but the service was soooo slow. It took an additional hour for us to get our food and they just kept coming by stating “that should be out soon.” But another 20 minutes would pass. Would want to come back for the food, but the bad service makes me very reluctant to go back.
Linda Hyink: One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in my life. Please reconsider if you're thinking you'll get a meal before a show at any of the venues close by in an acceptable amount of time.
Louis Rossin: I've dined at this restaurant about a year ago. I ordered there street tacos. The meat was extremely tender and juicy. It was like a party in mouth. The waiter was very friendly and professional as well. If you have never had Mexican he can advise as well. I tried the Mexican Coke as well. A little bit sweeter then traditional but still good. The restaurant is very clean as well. The only draw back I can think of is that it is only open for dinner and limited parking options.
Margaret Widelka: Came here for dinner before a 7:30 pm show at the Fox. We arrived at 4:45 pm and were told that they were closed till 5 pm. We were the first party seated at 5 pm (there were only 3 of us so we weren't a large group) and it was not busy for the first hour we were there.1. Waitress did not refill water glasses until she was asked twice.2. She forgot our mixed drinks.3. She was slow to take our order, and she got our order wrong. My friend ordered a taco platter and instead received a California burrito.4. It was 6:45 pm before we finally received a check and paid. And bear in mind, we were the first ones in the door. I don't see how anyone could have made the show on time if they arrived for dinner after us.Food was good, but I wouldn't be back due to the excruciating slow service.
AnnaMarie Ogunmola: I wanted to love this place. I'd been looking forward to coming here for months before a Fox show. I got there before 6 knowing I had an hour and a half before the show. My family and I got seated right away and our order was taken. Then we waited an hour and still no food. Two waiters came by and said they'd check, but came back with no food. 15 minutes before the show they allowed us to cancel our check along with 2 other tables. So I had to get my kids pretzels at the Fox so they weren't starving. The food may be good, I didn't get to find out.
Tom S: I really wanted to like this place. Food is solid, drinks were tasty. Service was good even though the place was packed. Even the ambiance was nice. Here's the problem: I found a black fly in my margarita, so I waited for the server to come around and replace the drink. Well, they took my drink away, removed the fly, put a new lime on it and gave it back to me as if they got me a new one. They never made a new drink, and I know this because I wiped exactly 1/2 the salt off the rim in a distinct way, just so I could verify if it was a new glass or not. The drink I got back was the same glass, 1/2 salted exactly like when I gave it back.If they're going to do this, where does it stop? If they drop my food on the floor are they going to pick it up and toss it back on my plate? Ethics matter and for this reason I won't go back here.
John Casper: Our party of four ate here prior to seeing a show at the Fox...mainly because of it's close proximity to the theater. The food was amazing. I had the terrific tamale plate--a fresh tamale with a side of baked veggies (which were seasoned to perfection) and a side of plantains. My S.O. is not crazy about Mexican food, but she was able to enjoy a fried shrimp dinner that she claims is one of the best she's ever had. (And she really loves her shrimp). She complains that Mexican restaurants don't offer alternatives on their menu. Certainly not the case here.Whether you're going to the Fox or not, I highly recommend this restaurant. But before you go, be sure to check their hours as they are not open every day.
Nicolas Cage: Great atmosphere and good selection of options! Tasty
Jorge Valdez: Margaritas are terrible. Tasted like grapefrit juice and it took around 15 minutes to get one and a soda.Waiter said they were making the chips. NOt, they were cold and probably from a bag. Salsa was watered down. Waiter did not checked on us, so after 20 min waiting to order, we paid for the drinks and left.
Mickeya Moore: Cons--Had to ask two people for a server (long wait for server)-alcoholic beverages took 30 mins or longer-server didn’t come back to fill waters until I asked-other server seen us waiting forever and didn’t step up to ask if we needed help like team players-food took too long and Mexican food never takes that long/couldn’t get an item Bc 40 mins wasn’t long enough for it to be ready and it was practically the same thing as the nachos that also took 40-50 mins-server got the alcohol beverage wrong-server who wasn’t ours came only to get the check but ignored us earlier-Overall bad experiencePros-shrimp nachos were great-server was nice-sitting down was fast-given water immediately-host was nice

Erica Brown: I visited this place twice and had a bad experience both times I revisited only because the food was good enough for another try. First visit hair on the menu ordered a margarita and it was some type of plastic inside of my ice I didn’t complain because the food was good. The staff customer service is trash the waitress‘s can barely speak English. And the supervisor or manager seems as if he had an attitude just terrible customer service I still paid tipped and left. Second visit I was seated table was dirty I moved to another table which was dirty as well the same man was mad because I moved he threw the menu on the table lol (only if he knew) I thought I hope the dishes are clean! food was alright shrimp tasted a bit raw and I didn’t really care for the birra tacos they tasted weird. but the customer service will throw anyone appetite off. I just don’t like the place and don’t recommend at all it’s better cleaner places in stl then to deal with unnecessary BS!

Valerie Coleman: I used to go to El Tapatio’s all the time for Mexican food. I went there today and the food was not good unfortunately. Instead of giving you the two large chicken tamales, they cut one in half to make two. It was really really dry and the chicken was extra dry. It will be a while if ever that I go to the restaurant again. Thank you for the opportunity to give my feedback.
MK (Little Sparrow): Still Great!! Excellent food, really reasonable prices, Superb service, I Definitely recommend!

Lily's Mexican Restaurant: what do users think?
Donald Frailey: The pico de Gallo had great balance of flavors with just right amount of jalapeños. It has was insanely good. The salsa bar was excellent, not overpowering in terms of heat. But the freshness was notable. The chips were thick and a little chewy. It is ashame that they do not have a patio. This would be the perfect ingredients for day drinking!I really like this south city Mexican restaurant. The tacos are very good. Get the carnitas tacos. Got a selection off the menu. All were good the carnitas blew me away. The beans were great! The Mexican rice was ok. Truthfully I am not a rice fan. This was acceptable. It is veteran owned, something I like to see in the places that I patronize. This is a winner!
Jeffrey Halverson: I have been waiting to come here for a long time. It was definitely worth the wait. Everything was house made and delicious. Maureen Quiroga-Anania: We want to love this place being in the neighborhood. We ordered at 7:50, tacos, queso, guacamole, and a coke. Our guacamole and queso came about 8:45 and our food arrived around 9. This is crazy for a Mexican restaurant, but had the food been amazing, not a big deal.Meat was over cooked and dry, queso was like cottage cheese, not melted/almost curdled. Guacamole had no flavor, and the food was lukewarm. The owner was vacuuming as people left, which was very loud. Meanwhile, the salt shakers had a film covering them and need a good soak. We even tried to clean ours off with a napkin and water but it was too thick. As a small business owner, you must keep your restaurant clean and serve hot food at the best quality possible.I will say the salsa was very good. All the reviews say 4 star, but how?
claire sinde: Lovely little family owned restaurant. You are greeted with amazing smells followed by the wonderful owners. Their food is delicious along with their house margaritas. Most places you can tell the queso has been sitting, but here it was melty and delicious. Definitely come here and support this small family run business!

J B: I find this rude that companies demand reviews. Yet get butt hurt if a review is bad on it.However, I am an observer by long career of Security. So, I do pay attention in the interactions of other workers and other customers along with there reactions in them. But overall, I do prefer to only rate that individual or people that I to encounter during my visit. Most of my encounters was during COVID Craziness.. while I had worked for/ Delivery guy in behalf of DoorDash, GrubHub and UberEats.I don't do any more because of several issues both restaurant & customers behaviors. Along with safety and bad set up at either.I no longer deliver
Cam Jenkins: The staff was extremely kind and the food was amazing
Jason “TheTechSpec” Heisel: Two Red (traditional) 1 green (jalapeño based) tamales
Queen Kimki Makita: The food was very delicious an it didn't take long to cook
Karol Cockrell: Very warm & friendly place to eat at.
Chad Brenton: The. Best. Margaritas.
Larry Baden: Still the best real Mexican food in town. The Esparza family are great folks, and they serve delicious, 'home made' food.
Tina Wann: Rolled tacos with rice, beans, and guacamole. Every bite was amazing. My margarita was perfection. The people were so friendly too. Bravo!

Marc Brown: I’ve had take out several times here over the last year and the food is so good. So authentic. The service is always friendly. I’ve never had a wrong order. I live close by and will be moving soon but when I want Mexican food this will always be my place. 5 Stars
Rachel Sullivan: This USED to be the #1 Authentic Mexican in STL until they hired a cranky white guy. Food quality decreased horribly. After sometime the man is now gone so we tried it again… GROSS! Raven: Over the years things have definitely changed. They lost their touch when Covid hit. I didn’t visit for a few year hoping they would get better. No. The meat was boiled and was full of water and juicy. Not juicy as in cooked all day nice and juicy but added water juicy. The rice was even watery. They have a daily drink special it’s the only thing that’s keeping the doors open. I would not recommend.

Lance Whittaker: I had a 5 star review for this place because the food is pretty decent. I had the worst service there and I actually went off on the waitress because of her constant attitude. I've literally never done that before in my life. She may have been drunk. I mean how bad do you have to be to get a stoner to snap at you. I'll even eat the wrong meal if it's brought out to me because of how I was raised to be polite no matter what. There's plenty other Mexican restaurants in south city. Just go anywhere on Cherokee.
Michael Moore: Try the burrito California! My favorite Mexican restaurant hands down!!! The waitress Bree is awesome!!! She always has a pleasant attitude and a great memory for what I ordered last time. I have literally brought all of my friends here to taste the food and Margaritas. Speaking of margaritas………I absolutely love the recipe! Best in the CITY hands down!!!! I’m a fan of the fajitas nachos too and if I’m lucky they’ll dice my peppers and onions. 🤤 This place is a mom and pop business so I will continue to support! Thanks guys for all you do.

Violet V: This place is one of my absolute favorites. I have been coming here since I was a kid, the food quality for the price is phenomenal. The waitresses are always so nice & the entire place is extremely charming. The margaritas are sooo good & super affordable. Would rate this place 6/5 if I could, have never had any complaints :).Vegetarian options: They have a vegetarian section on their menu that has some really great (and cheap!) options.
Robin Lee: We are long time customers of Chimichangas, and this is my go to place for Enchiladas. They have always had the best in my opinion. However tonight was the exception. The service was great, my partner's food was amazing. But alas, my enchiladas were not as good as they usually are. There was very little enchilada sauce over them, and it seemed the enchiladas might have been sprinkled with a dry spice. They were much spicier on the outside than I've had before and they did not have as " corny" a flavor as usual.Maybe it was just an off night.I'll gladly go back and try again. They also had Happy hour going on from 4 till closing, $2.99 margaritas and such.
Christina Danley: Delicious fajitas and the soup is a meal all to itself. Service was quick and the waiter was friendly.
Scott Arnitz: The waitress was very helpful and quick! It was our first time here She made us feel Welcome! The margaritas were excellent! We will be back!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

Chase Murphy, Jr.: Let me start by saying that some of you may be a tad put off by the manner in which I share this review, and yet, it’s my hope that you’ll be able to appreciate that these are my feelings, thoughts and perspectives, and that yours may be wholly and completely different than mine in every conceivable way. Cool?Cool. We have used and heard the word “authentic” so many times, that for me, it seems to have lost whatever organic earthiness that it may have originally held. Truly, what is “authentic”? Is it a single restaurant owned by a person or family? Is it two, or three places to eat that have the same family recipes? What is “authentic”, really? As I confessed, I don’t really know any more. I really don’t.So when I talk about Palacio’s Mexican Restaurant, as much as I want to stand on a chair and espouse the virtues of “authentic” cuisine, I won’t. I won’t because I personally think that this place deserves “better”.And even with that, one has to consider how varied tastes and preferences are from one person to the next, right?Right.Palacio’s is not a place where you’re likely to park you new Range Rover and feel at ease with not being able to see it. Located in Dutchtown at 4101 S. Grand, you’re as likely to see people fighting across the street as you are people minding their own business. I am not speaking ill of the residents of that area, and yet, let’s not pretend that there aren’t some social challenges that exist either. But for me, since I am who I am, I don’t worry so much about locale and “crime”, race and economic disparity and social constructs.I came for the food.Sharon and I had a completely different feelings when even walking through the front door. For her, it reminded her of places she’d eaten at in Zimbabwe. For me, the pool table in your face when you walk in, along with the bar to the right, and on the day we were there, boxes and boxes on the actual bar itself, well, let’s just say that I wondered if this was a place I really wanted to patronize. In other words, I can honestly say that my beloved and I had completely different expectations.Suffice to say that if decor and fine-dining are your thing, well, this is not the place for you.If real, heartfelt interaction from the staff is what you’re after, well then, head on in, seat yourself and indulge. Margarita was our server, and is also the owner’s daughter. She was a pleasure. Patient, solicitous and frankly, she was cool people.Anyway, Sharon just told me that this too long, so I will wrap this up.I had a burrito that rocked my world. Real steak that is cooked and seasoned in a way that let’s you know that it’s not Tex-mex (which I abhor), and more, the portion sizes are the kind that give you the feeling that you’ve gone to someone’s house and they’ve fed you enough to hope that you’ll come back again and again.Sharon had Menudo. She loves it and she raved over this one. Me, not so much, and yet, I have to admit, this was tasty to me. Again, I am not a fan, and yet, the seasoning and varied hints of it all together was quite pleasing. In the end, if you want a fare that’s not Tex-Mex, and gives you the feeling and the sense that you’re at someone’s home and that they’re trying to impress you with their food and low-key atmosphere, well, then this might be for you.If you need 5-Star cuisine and linen tablecloths, you’ll not find it here. Finally, I don’t talk price because for me, that’s relative to the pleasure I get from the meal and for me and Sharon, it was worth every dollar. In every way.

Brian Sullivan: Great food and serviceRecommended dishes Chips, Fajitas …More
Todd Baltimore: The food was amazing. We had chicken quesadillas, fajitas, street tacos, and the best margarita I’ve ever had. One margarita will do the job (strong). My only issue was the “late night gratuity” (we made it there about 10pm), it should’ve been told to us in advance. It was 18%. I definitely recommend, though.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Chicken Quesadilla …More
PATRICIA Dees: Never again for Cinco DE Mayo, the staff was so busy partying with the guests that they couldn't take care of us. I had to stop staff several times to get drinks, napkins, and other supplies. Food was cold as it probably was sitting in window. We never got part of the orderFood: 3/5|Service: 2/5|Atmosphere: 2/5 …More
Candy Cook: Food wasn't that great,but the service was!Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Cody Cummings: They have some of the best bartenders downtown. The place is a lively, but relaxed place to grab drinks or some great food. I’ve had lunch and dinner there, and I’ve never had a bad experience. The tacos and fajitas are excellent, but I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any of the menu items. Definitely try a margarita while you’re there!
Landon Miller: Deserves a zero. Our waitress was terrible on service. Asked for drinks and a queso to start. Did not get served the queso or the drinks at all across a 1.5 hr visit. Then on the bill she charged for them. Ridiculous to have someone working there to conduct herself in this fashion. Either untrained or overwhelmed no excuse.
Russell Nielsen: Good food with excellent service. Had the steak fajitas and chips with salsa. Group serenading us while we ate was an added touch.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Chips, Fajitas …More
James Daly: Nice place downtown for quality Mexican food and big Margs

Michele: Margaritas were bland. Just like fruit artificial juice. We asked for sugar on our cups for the strawberry margaritas. We got very little salt.It was Cinco de mayo. It was full at 9pm. The music was horrible. It was loud and out, key 70s rock. We were hoping for Mexican music on Cinco de Mayo. No. Food was okay the margaritas was bland and lacking the full flavor when making them at home. For the price paid, margaritas were lacking, food was average, atmosphere was terrible.Low keyed restaurant that is overpriced.

Cristal Luna: The restaurant was completely packed when I walked in. I had no issues with a long wait, it was to be expected. I stood at the register for 30 mins, I was never greeted or asked if I needed anything. Being that it was busy I didn’t want to take it personal. What upset me was when 3 people, yes 3 people who walked in after me had their order taken. All whom were Spanish speaking people. At first I thought they had online or pickup orders but that wasn’t the case. They all placed orders and then exchanged money. Finally a women decided to take my order and I went to sit down. As I approached the table my bf explained how another table was ignored multiple times and had to ask the staff if someone was going to help them. This table was there before we arrived. I continued to watch them bring chips and continue to ignore not only my table my bf had been sitting at but the other table that complained. I’m very understanding to restaurant staff. I’m also the LAST person to pull the race card. But when I see you give good service and attention to Hispanic and white people and ignore African Americans, it’s sad in 2023 we have to have this conversation and it’s disgusting. I will never come back to this place. I also saw one of the waitresses touch food to see if it hot with her fingers after dealing with money. And to top it off this was some of the nastiest Mexican food I’ve had. These were the worst fries, street tacos and queso I’ve ever had. My bf ordered a steak quesadilla that wasn’t tasty. Don’t waste your time or money coming here.
Jesús Alejandro Hernández: La verdad esta 6% de buena la comida pero no atienden bien las meseras contestan muy desagradable no saben atender bien perdí mi tiempo en manejar 2:30 para solo ir a comer hay
