Cody Cummings: The Thaxton Speakeasy is a well kept secret of downtown St. Louis. Their cocktails are really well made and their beer selection is pretty good too. The bar staff is always a delight, and they add to the vibe of the whole experience. The Thaxton has a great mix of Art Deco and Art Nuevo décor that helps transport you back to the days of prohibition. Finding the speakeasy is the easy part, but you’ll need to snoop around on their social media to find out how to get the secret password of the week. This place makes for a great date night or a cool place to meet up with friends for a good cocktail.

Kevin C: This was an interesting experience. I visited solo expecting to mingle with cool people in a cool space. I was put on a waitlist so I thought the place would be hopping…after receiving a texts and being escorted downstairs, I was told to place my order at the bar the have a seat in my assigned seat, which was a wingback chair in the corner. Every party has their own assigned seats here, even the couples seated at the bar. No one was standing or interacting. I had a drink and left. It felt more like a table-service only, speakeasy/restaurant. The space was cool and has tons of potential, but the vibe was flat. Not ideal for solo patrons.
Peter Maliha: Beautiful hidden gem. Requires password for entry. The host is a peculiar guy who is initially intimidating but then you realize that he is appropriately in character for the place’s vibe and it becomes amusing. Drinks are great, music is on point, and decor is beautiful. Highly recommended.
Guy P: I think this place is permanently out of business. Went through the trouble of creating an Instagram account to get the password. Showed up at the alley entrance, rang the door bell. No response, the alley is totally dark, I've been to a lot of speakeasies, there is usually a light by the secret entrance, this place is totally dark. Very dangerous. Don't go.

Ric Castillo: Stumbled across this well-appointed, hidden spot just before New Year's weekend and went a couple of times. Beautiful details convey the period well. Have your password ready and banter a little with the doorman. Once seated, walk up to the bar to order. First cocktail was obviously for the crowds, but talk to the clever and accommodating staff: they'll make you something more interesting. Don't like cocktails (...I mean, why?) - they even have Montucky!

Alan Valensky: Seemed like a great spot. Service was friendly and fast. I ordered a Manhattan and still have no idea what drink I was actually made. Not 100% sure there was bourbon in it. But, it's a wine bar so I ordered a glass of Pinot and it was delicious. I ordered the special which was lamb chops. They came out totally untrimmed with all of the fat still on them making them virtually inedible. The parts that were edible were limp and under cooked. No hard sear, no crispy bits which is the whole point of lamb chops. Just fat and undercooked meat. The blackened cauliflower side was delicious. Sadly underwhelmed and $75 later, I'm at another establishment having a real Manhattan and some food so I don't go to bed hungry.

Hannah Lonsdale: Came for the charcuterie but balked at $11-13 per item. However, most of the food we tried instead (tomato bisque, chorizo, duck salad) was delicious.I was excited to see a niçoise salad on the menu, if surprised that the fish was salmon rather than tuna. The salmon was a little dry but flavorful and could have been forgiven if the olive dressing hadn't drowned out everything with its overpowering flavor. Embarrassingly bad and unbefitting of an otherwise excellent establishment.Final minor point- it was a quiet night and the bartender cleared away my beers before I'd had a chance to finish and savour the final sip. Cody Cummings: We recently stopped in to Bridge, and it was a great experience. They have one of the best draft selections in all of downtown. Their mix of beers range in types, ABV and locality. You can order 4oz glasses if you’re into trying several. Their wine selection is also pretty varied, and we enjoyed everything we tried. If you’re hungry make sure to try one of the starters. I recommend the mushroom pâté if they’re currently serving it. Their other entrée dishes have a great blend of flavors. Many of the dishes leveraged flavorful proteins like duck sausage or braised pork belly with savory root veggies and herbs. The ambiance has a refined but rustic feel, and the intimate lighting makes it great for dates or just relaxing with a drink. The bartenders are really friendly and we’re a pleasure to talk to. Prices vary drink-to-drink, but they’re pretty reasonable for downtown.I highly recommend stopping by if you haven’t, and we plan to make them a pretty regular stop.

Next time, I think I would just do the 5 course tasting. It was just so much food with the 10 that I couldn't finish everything. katie krus: Very disappointing for the amount of money we spent. I am all for spending money on great food but this did not live up to expectations. When we walked in for a 6:00 reservation, there were only 2 other tables full which was a bit alarming to start.We did the 5 course meals and my husband and I each tried different dishes. The menu had great potential but total lack of execution by the kitchen. The drinks had fun names and were presented beautifully with good flavor. The crab croquette was my favorite dish of the whole meal - delicious with the squid ink, however, my husband thought it was a bit too salty. The shaved Foie Gras was pretty good but had a very strange texture with the beets and did not have a good presentation. Kind of looked like slop. The French onion soup was good. The Bibb lettuce salad was below average. I make better salads on a whim at home. Absolutely nothing special about it. Bluefin Carpaccio was supposed to be an uncommon dish so that is why I chose it. It had a very fishy taste and smell, almost looked grey on the dish and had poor presentation. It was my least favorite dish. The waiter told us “the Buttermilk Fried Poussin is the best fried chicken you will ever eat” and also made sure to reiterate it was not pigeon which we found strange. (Of course it’s chicken!). It was decent but nothing near the best fried chicken I’ve ever had and it was difficult to get off the bone - not a ton of meat. My husband ordered the elk chop medium rare and it came out well done and honestly looked pathetic. It looked like a shriveled up piece of meat. Lastly, for dessert I had the beignets. They tasted burnt/over fried and lacked depth in flavor. Very disappointing overall after having this place on my “go to” list for years.

Alan: I enjoyed my time at this whiskey bar. They have about 20 single malts (plus bourbon and rye) from which to choose. The choices were extensive and good but nothing really, over the top, exotic. Prices were reasonable at mostly under $20 a nip. Had the lox snack which was excellent and went surprisingly well with the scotch. Bartenders are friendly and helpful.Nice place to relax.

Mechelle F: We went to celebrate my daughters birthday. She passed away in February. I emailed April and she immediately responded back and made the reservation for us. Staff was informed for the reasoning as to why we were coming and after we ate they brought out dessert on the house. Yesterday was such a hard day for me, but the staff here made it so much easier. The food was great. The atmosphere was great and I loved the staff.

Jennifer Jablonowski: We were craving a cocktail on our last evening in St. Louis and stumbled upon Taste. We were able to make same day reservations which was really nice. As for the restaurant itself, it has a great ambiance, very romantic for a date night. The cocktails were amazing and the food was not far behind. We weren’t very hungry so only enjoyed the tomato salad and the mussels, but honestly we wanted to try it all. We got the olive oil cake for dessert and it was perfection. Service was also great. Can’t say enough good things about Taste. We hope to be back next time we’re in St. Louis!
Sabrina Skerston: All the drinks were excellent. I like the option of a bartender's choice drink since you can have something unexpected. The olive oil cake was delicious. When they served my date's entree, they let us know that mine wasn't ready yet so they gave us a free appetizer. I didn't complain, they immediately just let me pick an item for them to comp. Will definitely be returning!

Kinelam Howard (Kinelam Bolgaire): My family and I were visiting STL and on our first night out decided on Taste on their Grand ReOpening Day---and we were absolutely blown away. The high-end American plates were so delicious, most notably the cheese curds, the cornbread, and the pork burger! On top of that, the drinks were top-notch. And the drinks were so good. Had the Old Fashioned (probably the best ever) and Blacker the Berry.What also made our night was the energy of the staff. They were so friendly, worked so well together, and made sure that we were having the best time ever. The handsome, young executive Chef, Elliott, personally came to our table to introduce himself and offer us background on some of the delicious dishes we were enjoying. It was a very cool move and it definitely was the cherry on top!Would recommend to all who lives or visits STL. And we are back, this is definitely one of the places I would have to see again.

Cocktails are good, but very, very small.The reason for my 2-star review is Unfriendliness of this place! I have been a customer for a past year, maybe a little less, and have yet to run into a friendly staff member! Last time I visited this place was just terrible customer service on part of the hostess who behaves like she's literally a Hollywood star plastic surgeon: I have never seen in my life hostess so full of herself. I walked in, and wanted to sit at a bar with my husband and a friend, and there WAS enough room at a bar for 5 people, but she said "We don't have enough space for all of you", and I said: "Well, I don't mind standing if you're missing a chair", to which she replied: "Per my manager's policy I am not allowed to let you do that." I said OK, and she just stood there looking down at me. All three of us looked at each other confused as to what was going on, and we just walked out. SHE REFUSED to service us, although we were more then appropriately dressed, and not even close to being drunk because we had not had a single drink prior to coming here. Also, let me mention that it was 9:30pm, so not an extremely busy time. She was never very pleasant, whenever me and my husband were there, and tends to brush me off every time I'm there, but this last time was just too much. I can't believe that a place like this would allow something like that to happen!!! I have taken 15 minutes of my time to contact the bar via the contact page, but it has been 4 days, and I still haven't gotten any reply. Ridiculous.
