Thaxton Speakeasy: what do users think?
evansbt1: I friend brought me here for my birthday. It was an amazing experience. the vibe, the specialty drinks and the atmosphereService: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
John Miller: I read the reviews and there’s a special password? It seems like they don’t really want much business. I would Definitely not want to arrive and not get in. Where are the passwords? Interesting concept in theory but off putting and snooty. Sorry for the 1 star but can’t even figure out how to go to this joint.
Ben Kurz: Matthew Douglas is the man!
Cody Cummings: The Thaxton Speakeasy is a well kept secret of downtown St. Louis. Their cocktails are really well made and their beer selection is pretty good too. The bar staff is always a delight, and they add to the vibe of the whole experience. The Thaxton has a great mix of Art Deco and Art Nuevo décor that helps transport you back to the days of prohibition. Finding the speakeasy is the easy part, but you’ll need to snoop around on their social media to find out how to get the secret password of the week. This place makes for a great date night or a cool place to meet up with friends for a good cocktail.
Amanda Anderson-Gonzalez: Bartenders were awesome and staff was great. Definitely a fun experience.
ellis473: Super neat, chill spot. Staff is fun, engaging, and easy to work with, drinks are tasty and the vibe is wonderful.
Kevin C: This was an interesting experience. I visited solo expecting to mingle with cool people in a cool space. I was put on a waitlist so I thought the place would be hopping…after receiving a texts and being escorted downstairs, I was told to place my order at the bar the have a seat in my assigned seat, which was a wingback chair in the corner. Every party has their own assigned seats here, even the couples seated at the bar. No one was standing or interacting. I had a drink and left. It felt more like a table-service only, speakeasy/restaurant. The space was cool and has tons of potential, but the vibe was flat. Not ideal for solo patrons.
Peter Maliha: Beautiful hidden gem. Requires password for entry. The host is a peculiar guy who is initially intimidating but then you realize that he is appropriately in character for the place’s vibe and it becomes amusing. Drinks are great, music is on point, and decor is beautiful. Highly recommended.
Guy P: I think this place is permanently out of business. Went through the trouble of creating an Instagram account to get the password. Showed up at the alley entrance, rang the door bell. No response, the alley is totally dark, I've been to a lot of speakeasies, there is usually a light by the secret entrance, this place is totally dark. Very dangerous. Don't go.
Derek Metcalf: Love it
Ayano Tominaga: No T-mobile signal in the basement.
N. J. Sorensen: The Thaxton Speakeasy is a unique and interesting place to visit for anyone who seeks a change of pace from the usual bar scene. This speakeasy is hidden away, accessible only through a secret entrance, adding to its allure and mystique.Once you're inside, you'll be transported back to the 1920s with its atmospheric lighting, vintage decor, and authentic speakeasy vibe. The specialty drinks are top-notch, with a focus on classic cocktails made with premium ingredients. From gin fizzes to old fashioneds, there's something for everyone. One of the standout features of the Thaxton Speakeasy is the friendly but stuffy staff. They are knowledgeable about the drinks and the history of speakeasies, and are more than happy to make recommendations based on your preferences. The best time to visit the Thaxton Speakeasy is on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night when it is open to the public and not privately booked. However, it is first come, first served, so it's best to arrive early to ensure you get a seat. Note that while there are some special events with live music, most nights there is no live music.Overall, the Thaxton Speakeasy is a unique and interesting destination for anyone who seeks an escape from the everyday. With its atmospheric decor, top-notch drinks, and friendly but stuffy staff, it's sure to provide a memorable and enjoyable experience for anyone who stops by.
Elite Collectibles: This place is really cool with amazing architecture, lots of great pin up art and an amazing setup.
Nicole Christ: Super cool place and vibe!
Staci “Anastasia Di Thyone” Heath: I have been at this location twice for photo shoots and the art work is simply amazing in this building. 😍
Ric Castillo: Stumbled across this well-appointed, hidden spot just before New Year's weekend and went a couple of times. Beautiful details convey the period well. Have your password ready and banter a little with the doorman. Once seated, walk up to the bar to order. First cocktail was obviously for the crowds, but talk to the clever and accommodating staff: they'll make you something more interesting. Don't like cocktails (...I mean, why?) - they even have Montucky!
Ryan Franks: We went to the Thaxton for a wedding. The place is beautiful, and the bar downstairs is amazing. The bar staff was knowledgable and the guys working that night were super helpful. Everyone had a great time.
Ken Treadway: Great drinks and an excellent atmosphere for a drink. And the event space is very cool as well, if you're privileged and special enough (like me) to experience it!
Allen Adams: Amazing place! Went for a wedding, staff was fantastic and friendly, food was great. If you're a fan of this art style you'll love it here.
Lauren: Great old fashioned. The waitresses were lovely and the door man was fun to interact with. The atmosphere was excellent and intimate and I loved that they only allow a certain amount of people in at a time. It allows for a more enjoyable time.
Darnell Kebo: 9/22/2022: My kind of spot! Great cocktails and friendly staff.

Lazy Tiger: what do users think?
bronwyn miller: small but good menu for food and drinks, great atmosphere.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Leah Williams: This place in general looks very, very cool. I love the look of the place. It's very okay shout out to Elizabeth. She was our waiter. She did great The food is great. It's a little expensive side but it's worth it. The drinks are great too. I got the banana pain killer. Highly recommend. Will definitely go back again. And just a note, their food is from Yellow Belly. They're like partner places But it doesn't take long. The food comes out quick. The drinks come out quick. And they're happy hours are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays but highly recommend. Highly recommend. Also make sure you have your IDsVegetarian options: I know they have vegetarian options but there's a picture of the menu to show you more. They also have separate things for food allergies and you should request a non gluten-free bun
Olive Alice: All of the food was delicious and the drink was strong and flavorful! The price point is a bit high but it's perfect for a special occasion, I reccomend reserving a table in advance because it was quite busy but they were still able to seat us. Staff was very attentive as well.
Scottie Lambert: fantastic cocktails, delicious food, and wonderful staff. Dave and Elizabeth made our night so so good!
Jess MacKimm: Great experience at Lazy Tiger! I don’t drink alcohol, and my server made sure I got a custom made NA cocktail based on my flavor preferences. It was excellent
Todd Applegate: Classic hipster bar doing way too much!!! Food was terrible. Cocktails are so small and $18. The clam chowder is inedible. It’s extremely fishy tangy water with chunks in it. Its lacking just about everything that makes a good clam chowder. The jerk chicken sandwich was ok. The Sea Bass was by far the only thing worth ordering. It was overly seasoned with cumin or chili powder. Crab cakes were decent sauce was once again just not hitting the mark fir these prices.
ericka arreola: Great little cocktail spot! We just went for cocktails after dinner. It's an intimate, low-light spot that shares a bathroom hallway with Yellowbelly. So many fun cocktail options. I'd highly recommend the Low Country, even if you're not a big bourbon drinker. I also had the Humble Brag which was good too.
P L M: Fun Home Alone 2 themed cocktails; lovely service. Ordered a dozen different plates off the Yellowbelly menu for our party of 4, all delicious! Advanced reservation recommended.
Mary Kate Stewart: Cocktails are truly an art here. So fun
Chris Rodriguez: Specialty drinks.Charred carrots 🥕 were amazing.
Marty Fernandez: Food Was great! But the music was so loud you couldn’t hear your dinner companions would not recommend this place for dinner with friends.
Joey McGuire: Love the vibes and the drinks were fantastic!
Brendan Knapp: Great (if a little small) cocktails. The service is excellent. Food from yellowbelly is great as well.
Morgan Rubbo: We had such an amazing experience at Lazy Tiger while I was in town on business. I had been traveling all day and wanted some solid food and a good drink. Our server Elizabeth over delivered! She was one of the best servers I have had in a long time and gave us some amazing recommendations. My friend and I ended up trying 6 or so drinks off the menu and had I not had to work in the morning we would have loved to try them all. Every single one was top tier. I ordered the cheese burger and fries, and both were phenomenal. It was so great that after working all day Saturday I knew I wanted a guaranteed good meal/drink so we went back again! As a Kansas City native I have experienced many great food and cocktail options and I confidently can say Lazy Tiger can run with the best. I can’t wait to visit again soon, thank you!!
H A: Nice cocktails. Great carrot dish.
A Waldron: Nice environment, knowledgeable bartender.
Bill Evjen: A little bit of a hidden location and is somewhat connected to the great seafood restaurant Yellowbelly. There is a draped doorway between the restaurant and this bar called Lazy Tiger. The food was outstanding. The drinks are very finely made with wonderful ingredients. The staff had top notch support and were sincere in their care and delivery. Totally five stars and worth a visit. We hit this restaurant before heading to the Fox Theater, which was only a 6 minute drive away.
Dimitar M: Amazing food, cocktails and service! Strong recommendation for a date night. Thank you!
C.D.: Lazy Tiger is a great little cocktail bar in the Central West End! Lazy Tiger offers a variety of craft cocktails and a swanky, candle lit atmosphere, perfect for an after dinner drink. The also offer several small plates from the Yellowbelly menu.I ordered the Southpaw, a seaweed gin based cocktail, and I highly recommend ordering this one! It offers a herbaceous and refreshing taste, with a hint of lemon and cinnamon. Our server gave us great recommendations based off of our personal tastes and was very friendly. The entrance can be difficult to spot, however. It is in the Citizen Park building, located around the corner from Yellowbelly on Euclid. I do suggest making reservations, as seating is limited. If you are looking for a great date night spot, this should be on your list of go-to’s!
Tim Fitzsimmons: Great drinks, our server was also very kind and personable.
Bernie Dippolito: This place was delicious! Top notch cocktails, excellent food, great for sharing. Service was outstanding, and an overall excellent vibe

Planter's House: what do users think?
A K: My husband and I came here for the first time to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, food sounded/looked good, drinks looked great and the vibe seemed unmatched. We decided to sit outside to have dinner and we believe that was our mistake. There was a very loud group seated behind us, but we weren’t to worried about it, but it continuously got louder. To start got the cacio e pepe fries and that was the best part of the whole meal. The drinks were decent. The dinner was where it started to fall off, my husband ordered the ribeye and I ordered the duck. Both cold, both dissatisfied after the meal. I ordered a second drink but our waitress must’ve forgotten as she was very busy socializing with her friends at another table. We felt very rushed to get out after she handed us our bill. We don’t plan to go back, but will say, if you’re there for a nice evening with your significant other, maybe sit inside.
Stefania: Recommended dishes Planter's House FriesMore
Elicia Eskew: The food was ok, the drinks better, the server ok. We were waiting for one more party to arrive then we had to track down the server to get the order started. Overall we had a good time but for the price and quality this won't be a regular stop.
Justin Barbetta: Some of the best food and drinks I've ever had. The atmosphere was great. Not quiet but not loud.
Susan McLaughlin: Had a great meal here - the bbq shrimp po'boy was delicious and my friend loved the duck carbonara. Great cocktails too!
Amanda Rainey: Great atmosphere. Delicious craft cocktails!
Marcus Burke: The drinks alone deserve 5 stars. Service was great too. My steak showed up cold and raw, but they fixed the problem quickly. 4 drinks, dinner and dessert for $90. Very affordable.
Sven Tietz: Lovely space, great vibe, good cocktails. Thumbs up 👍
Sam Trybula: Service is AMAZING 10/10 recommended!
jeffrey huff: Pretty space inside. Creative drinks. Enjoyable outdoor patio. However, I’ve had just as quality crafted a cocktail at a much more reasonable price in a comparable environment elsewhere. They start at around $15. Will not repeat.
Jorden N: Awesome drinks all the time, def the star of the show.
Zyra Glee: We came here yesterday for the first time and I must say that I really loved the atmosphere of this place and how kind their staff are.It appears to me that their menu contains globally inspired dishes including asian cuisine so I was very excited to try their food. I’m not going to say that we were disappointed but we left quite dissatisfied. Here’s why:For snacks, we ordered sambal pickled egg and plantain chips with aji verde.—— sambal pickled eggs are versatile and can be served either hot or cold. In our case, it was served cold which is fine, but it was flavorless. I was expecting a hot and spicy flavor since sambal is usually made out of chili. What we had is simply a cold boiled egg showered with a “sambal sauce” that tasted like plain boiled egg water. I don’t think it was pickled at all and if it was, the lack of flavor was there for sure.—— I was expecting a freshly cooked plantain chips with aji verde but got in a small paper bag instead. The sauce is overwhelmed with cilantro that its hard to taste the rest of what else is in there (like the parmesan, jalapeños, lime juice, etc…).For entree, we ordered the following:—— Mushroom pancit which was made out of sautéed mushrooms, mushroom shoyu, rice noodles, carrot & green bean salad.I grew up in a Filipino household so I know what Pancit tastes like. I get that this dish used a mushroom shoyu instead of a regular soy sauce but I find this rendition of mushroom pancit very bland. It seems like the noodles weren’t stir fried with the vegetables and shoyu because of how pale the noodles were. The noodles were balled-up, the veggies were put on top and it looks like the sauce were just poured in there - it was soupy. And mind you, a soupy pancit is great but the ingredients seemed so separated even though they were all in there together.—— Duck carbonara which was seared duck breast, pancetta, sautéed mushrooms, egg, thyme, house made spaghetti and pecorino romano. Honestly, this was subpar. I get the quality over quantity when it comes to but food for me, this dish didn’t meet both. The flavors were bland and the serving was so small that I don’t think it was worth its price.Overall, the food that we ordered was all flavorless. I couldn’t even taste even a pinch of salt and pepper in there which was sad.On a brighter note, we enjoyed having drinks and hanging out in the balcony. If we were to return here, we’ll most likely just order drinks but will be hesitant to order food again. To be fair, the ambience was great, we enjoyed our drinks, the staff was accommodating and we got our food in a timely manner.
Brittany L.: Good atmosphere and drinks, food was decent, HOWEVER there is a '2 hour cap' on your table. Meaning...you cannot stay longer than 2 hours even if you are continuously purchasing food and drinks profiting this business, with empty tables next to you. At any given time during our 2 hour stay, before we were kicked out due to the time limit, there were at least 2 tables open on the patio surrounding us. We offered to move to a smaller table, but was told it wouldn't matter and we would still only have 30 minutes left. I don't understand this philosophy, and find it quite distasteful. No one informed us of this 'rule' when we sat down. If you're going to have a stupid rule like that, be upfront and inform all customers prior to seating. Hopefully this review helps someone else from getting kicked out when trying to enjoy food and drinks with their friends and family.
Cory Wilson: Best cocktails in the city!
Bomi Park: Overall pretty cool, I feel like their drinks are better than the food. Menu options didn't seem super great. Would like to visit again.
Shannon Colona: The absolute BEST cocktails in STL
Adam Cox: Great cocktails. Bartending was very friendly and knowledgeable
Jerri Schaefer: Great atmosphere. Loved the historic building & beautiful chandeliers. Delicious drinks & appetizers.
Rob Dowell: The food is amazing but come for the phenomenal cocktails.
Herk: Too many rules when you first walk in from the hostess and you can’t just sit at the bar anymore without a reservation now. Plus I find it rude to tell me there is a two hour limit on my visit. The upstairs bar has been gutted which used to be so fun and cool. What happened to the old establishment we all fell in love with. They don’t understand STL and what a customer is. We have tried to come back several times but this was the final death nail.
Judy Hetzler: 💘 this place

Hair of the Dog: what do users think?
Matt Hancock: Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Maurice Ward: Went there to visit my first time going. Bad experience. I put 30 dollars worth of money in the music machine to only hear heavy metal all night long. Like someone was controlling the music and didnt want any hiphop or rnb to play.
Cody Cummings: This our neighborhood bar. It’s an excellent place to pop in to watch the Blues and grab a beer. Their selection is great, and their bartenders are great. There’s always a friendly face at the bar, and new comers are welcome. We stopped in after we move down the street, and we fell in love with the place. If you hang out on the weekends, you can grab a hot dog from the street vendor after 9pm.
Nikita Smith: They are racist. I came in before 3am and they refused to serve me. It was last call at 2:50. I walked in at 2:45. There was no rational for the bartender or waitresses as to why they would not serve me, other than “you are black and you need to go”. I’ve been here before, right before 3am and had no issue until today. Will never go back again.
Laan Reeves: Great affordable drinks
Antoinette Reis: Great music
Graham Jaensch: Incredible beer selection with good bartender and only bar in the area with darts and other games. Can't believe there were not more people here.
Stephen Ott: Great beer selection on tap along with a great selection of sours. Their new chef, George Santos crafted the best damn cheese pizza ever.
Alyssa Burlison: I absolutely love this bar! I stop here every time I go to STL. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 #40VegasBombs
Rich Gasperlin: fun time
Zhane Edwards: Had amazing drinks. Shot darts. It was a vibe.
joshua stell: The Foosball and shuffleboard are fun
Jayson Slobodzian: Great bar. LOTS of beer on tap.
Kelly Bernards: First time here on Saturday night with a couple of friends, the bartender Danielle was drunk as she said hi and took our orders. Drinks came out without mixers that had been asked for and when I closed my tab there was an extra charge on there for a drink we had not ordered or received. I tried to inform her of this mistake but she was too drunk to understand and so the tab was not corrected. It was very busy here so it must normally be a good experience but it didn’t leave a good first impression on us. Wouldn’t recommend going here and we won’t be back.
Blake R J: Classy, yet unrefined.
Danielle Crumer: I love this place for an after hour spot but the employees seem to be rasicts. Other than the fake service was ok and drinks are always good. I love there throwback games here
Jim Johnson: Great bar.
Kevin Powell: Great Dive Bar! Great beer selection!
Shan: bad service & does notDidn’t realize they would actually put dog hair in the drinks
Mark Christian: Pretty good sports bar. Wish they had food

Taste: what do users think?
Sarah Starosta: Amazing cocktails and yummy fries.
chelsea kiser: Fun atmosphere and great drinks
Jennifer Jablonowski: We were craving a cocktail on our last evening in St. Louis and stumbled upon Taste. We were able to make same day reservations which was really nice. As for the restaurant itself, it has a great ambiance, very romantic for a date night. The cocktails were amazing and the food was not far behind. We weren’t very hungry so only enjoyed the tomato salad and the mussels, but honestly we wanted to try it all. We got the olive oil cake for dessert and it was perfection. Service was also great. Can’t say enough good things about Taste. We hope to be back next time we’re in St. Louis!
Sabrina Skerston: All the drinks were excellent. I like the option of a bartender's choice drink since you can have something unexpected. The olive oil cake was delicious. When they served my date's entree, they let us know that mine wasn't ready yet so they gave us a free appetizer. I didn't complain, they immediately just let me pick an item for them to comp. Will definitely be returning!
Matt Brody: One of our favorite places for drinks and small plates in St Louis. Drinks are creative and fun, cannot recommend enough for date nights.
MastaChudd: Lovely food! Lovely service! Lovely drinks! Will be back for sure! 10 out of 10
Maksim Shoykhet: This is my favorite bar ever. I tend to only like the best places, and this is one of them. Anybody will love this place. Especially the happy hour on Sunday and Monday.Update: was there this past Saturday (7.31.21) after the recent reopen. Everything was great, yet the drinks were super small and very weak. Not sure what is happening.
Domenica Tuschek: Gemütliches Ambiente, tolle Cocktails, super leckes Essen und freundliche Bedienung. Can't ask for more! Die Cheese Curds sind der Wahnsinn. Wir hatten einen unvergesslichen Abend und kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!
Kinelam Howard (Kinelam Bolgaire): My family and I were visiting STL and on our first night out decided on Taste on their Grand ReOpening Day---and we were absolutely blown away. The high-end American plates were so delicious, most notably the cheese curds, the cornbread, and the pork burger! On top of that, the drinks were top-notch. And the drinks were so good. Had the Old Fashioned (probably the best ever) and Blacker the Berry. What also made our night was the energy of the staff. They were so friendly, worked so well together, and made sure that we were having the best time ever. The handsome, young executive Chef, Elliott, personally came to our table to introduce himself and offer us background on some of the delicious dishes we were enjoying. It was a very cool move and it definitely was the cherry on top!Would recommend to all who lives or visits STL. And we are back, this is definitely one of the places I would have to see again.
Madison Alsup: Taste is my favorite cocktail bar in STL. Jake makes a mean bartenders choice!
Bill: The service here is polite, informative, professional, and weirdly fast. The food is worthy of being categorized with some of the best in Central West End. The patio is great; has a lot of shade for the hot summer days.
Kim Spight: The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the place is small!! The drinks were good and I don’t think I’ve ever had French fries so good!!
Alan Schaffer: Parking nearby is not likely to happen so be prepared to walk a block or more once you find a place to park. Wait staff was fantastic and prompt. Drinks I had were perfect!
Emma Lorraine: We sat at the bar. Huge variety of interesting cocktails. Bacon fat cornbread is amazing.
Ryle G: Dim lighting, good (but slightly overpriced) food, good drinks, and friendly staff. Seating feels a tiny bit snug, but it's not awful, and matches up with other spots in the Central West End (ex: Scarlett's). I'll be going back for sure.
Lindsay Morehouse: Great cocktails and great service!
Andy Gross: It was amazing
Tina Thies: This place is a hidden gem! Taste is the key to your senses, the food is amazing (best mushrooms we’ve had, down to the pickled shaved vegetables under it, sooo good!) the bartenders are more like mixologists but there is nothing uptight about this place. It is so comfortable and inviting! Even the bathrooms smell amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Neira Kartal: The only reason this place is getting 2 stars from me is because I like their food. Cocktails are good, but very, very small. The reason for my 2-star review is Unfriendliness of this place! I have been a customer for a past year, maybe a little less, and have yet to run into a friendly staff member! Last time I visited this place was just terrible customer service on part of the hostess who behaves like she's literally a Hollywood star plastic surgeon: I have never seen in my life hostess so full of herself. I walked in, and wanted to sit at a bar with my husband and a friend, and there WAS enough room at a bar for 5 people, but she said "We don't have enough space for all of you", and I said: "Well, I don't mind standing if you're missing a chair", to which she replied: "Per my manager's policy I am not allowed to let you do that." I said OK, and she just stood there looking down at me. All three of us looked at each other confused as to what was going on, and we just walked out. SHE REFUSED to service us, although we were more then appropriately dressed, and not even close to being drunk because we had not had a single drink prior to coming here. Also, let me mention that it was 9:30pm, so not an extremely busy time. She was never very pleasant, whenever me and my husband were there, and tends to brush me off every time I'm there, but this last time was just too much. I can't believe that a place like this would allow something like that to happen!!! I have taken 15 minutes of my time to contact the bar via the contact page, but it has been 4 days, and I still haven't gotten any reply. Ridiculous.
Kelly Dent: Unique little place with great cocktails.
Michael Christensen: Wonderful place. Fun! Good staff and great food and drink.
