Edward Straley: I am a frequent customer of Soil Service Garden Center and have been for years. I have also purchased some items from Soil Service Nursery across the street. They use to have staff that was very knowledgeable on Roses. Today I drove specifically there to get something to treat my roses from Rose Midge. I asked at the desk if there was a knowledgeable person on roses and the young girl informed me that everyone there was knowledgeable. Do I asked her and showed her a picture of Rose Midge and she had no idea. I asked if anyone else on staff would have any knowledge she proceeded to the official and came back and said no one knew anything. I was surprised as I knew they sold roses or use to.On my my way home I called Family Tree Nursery in Overland Park and spoke to Lydia, she was extremely knowledgeable and gave me 3 solutions in detail for the treatment. This is very important to me as I have over 30 Heirloom Roses and do not want to loose my investment. I will be visiting Lydia this Saturday for further assistance.Edward Straley

I wanted to make sure that I picked the correct tree for our lot size so I consulted with two extension/master gardener hotlines. Both of them, unprompted, name dropped Soil Service and complimented their staff and quality of plants.

Several of the other nurseries suggested we try Soil Service Nursery.Although they did not have the specific tree, they did have such a wide verity we were able to find a great second choice with the assistance of staff.So, if you are looking for something unusual I would try Soil Services first before heading to Family Tree or other local nurseries.
D Thomas: This is without a doubt my favotite place to get plants in the city. Theres a great selection of native and edible plants. Several tropicals whith loads of information on caring for them. The staff are friendly and know their store well. The prices are often much better than suburban lawn and garden as well.If you're into permaculture gardening this place is a must stop.

Katarina Elaine M.: This nursery and the garden center of the same name across the street are HUGE and wonderful. It's obvious that the staff respects life. They also seem to prioritize educating. The buildings are set up in a really accessible way, lots of ramps. Pricing was typical. They had the almost out of season items I was looking for, and the middle aged gardner man in the perinials section offered good recommendations. My visit felt like stepping through a portal into a magic jungle.

Walked in and was quickly escorted out and told the store was closing because they sent all their workers home due to rain?(which had stopped about two hours prior). Linda Harris: I bought some pots. I tried to return and was told that I had to have the receipt. I put the pots on my credit card. They were not going to give me my money back, only store credit. They could tell the pots were theirs. Why make me produce a receipt if all I am getting is a store credit???? I came home and was lucky I did find my receipt. I just thought it was poor customer service.

I will never return to Home Depot or Lowe's for plants again.

Got great advice and availability for added questions, products purchased worked great, and two years later I still have the best looking lawn in my neighborhood. They are busy, so a little patience is need to get their help, but that's a good thing. They know their business.

Clinton Brotherton: My fiance and I were in at the Grass pad on Barry road this past Sunday. The lady ringing us up at the counter was an absolute WRETCH. Rude, disrespectful, and very confrontational. Immediately SCOLDED us with an angry voice and scowl that we should of gotten a ticket from the people in the yard, however, we never received any help while picking out or plants. It only went downhill from there. I would at all costs avoid the Grass Pad at this location. I will be using Social Media to post similar comments. Shame on you for having such employees interact with customers.

Mark Fulbright: Employees need to understand why policies are in place. To protect you from losing product; not to prevent a sale. I need an entire pallet of sod but only have a 1/2 ton truck so I can only transport half a pallet. I can only come back today to get the other half. I wasted 2 hours to come get sod that you will not sell me because I am limited in transporting it. If I could have bought what I needed it would have been on me to return and get it. I cannot buy half of what I need and hope there is more when I return the drive is too far. So I cannot do my project at all because your employees do not know when they can step outside policy to help a customer.

Joseph Killeen: Our family gets all of our spices from planters. They are always fresh and as far from overpriced as you can get.Today's trip to Planter's, though, was for Fall garden seed. I purchased the smallest amount I could for each kind of seed and probably still have enough to last me for many years! (Update: bought spring garden seed today, selection was limited in bulk seed, presumably due to supply issues, but will return in a few weeks for everything else on my list!) I expect it will be as fresh as their spices, and like their spices, the cost was unbelievably low!We love Planter's!
