We actually left the Lee summit location from being treated poorly and had 100% better experience here and changed my view on Petland! These 2 ladies went above and beyond. Kelsey being new was very honest on what she was learning on, what she knew and not knew 100% and gave us the best experience with switching out so many puppies and making sure we got 100% what we needed. I will definitely be back and definitely recommend this location to all my friends.

So who knows how long beforehand she had actually started closing down as we never saw her come to the door and lock it. They buy sick puppies from puppy mills and the Campylobacter infections that resulted in dozens of people becoming so ill that they required hospitalization. This infection is antibiotic resistant and people die. Please stop getting puppies here. Always meet a puppy's mom, at the place they were born. Stop believing the statement the breeder is USDA, go to the USDA website and look up the licensed breeders, USDA has the worse breeders in the country.

I had to ask if they were up for adoption because i just couldn't believe it. Reading through the reviews about sick dogs, I notice that the establishment only responds to positive reviews and not to negative. This indicates an uncaring, untrustworthy attitude. Don't shop, adopt!

Petland has been great to us, and Elvis and staff at the North KC location were fantastic to work with and helping us bring our little boy home! He's been through 1 vet visit and he checked out completely healthy!

Be awareThey use tax dollars to pay laura vahn to come to your house and harass you when you are disabled. They don't want to help solve problems. As you can see they would rather cause issues then try to fix them..This shelter also kills animals

Cody Calhoun: I can't praise this place enough. We just adopted a dog from here this week and it was such a positive experience. The staff was SO KNOWLEDGEABLE and PATIENT. We met with a couple dogs and never felt rushed. When they supervised our dog to dog meeting they were extremely vigilant and ensured the safety of our current dogs. I wish I remembered the names of all the staff that helped my GF and I out because they were all amazing! Facilities were very clean and it seems like they really do there best to understand each dog's behavior and personality before adopting them out.

Avada Reducto: Zero stars. We went after hearing they needed cats adopted. Got there and was very uncomfortable place to begin with. Now we have to say what pronouns we want or we can’t check in. Then after 20 mins of watching everyone sitting down/ eating/play fighting we left. No one was working or helping anyone that was there. Guess they really didn’t need to get cats adopted out cause no one would get up off their phones and help anyone.

Mitch Nettles: Horrible experience. Spent 3 hours here and only saw 2 dogs. They don't let you see the dogs you want to see and steer you to the dogs they want you to see. You should be allowed to go pen by pen and watch the dogs and see the ones you want a meet and greet with. They bring them out one by one or tell you "this one is not a fit for you". How do they know how a dog will do in a totally new and different environment. I wanted to see 8 dogs but they said 5 were not a good match. Let me pick my own dog!!!

Christine James: Went in today to see one of the dogs, had to go home and get my pups for a required meet and greet to proceed. While I was driving from KCPP to my home and then immediately back to the facility the dog was adopted out to someone else. Just to be clear, I had conversations about next steps, was gone no more than one hour (Had to drive 20 minutes away to my home) and no consideration was given to the efforts I was taking. The first come, first served policy is destructive. Perhaps let people sign a form stating they will be back and charge their credit card if they do NOT return. I am unlikely to try to adopt through KCPP after this experience.

Ira Kullot: My girlfriend and I waited over an hour and a half to see the cats. We support kc pet project and everything they do. That said, there needs to be some accountability. It was very frustrating having to wait that long. The people at the front desk said since they're not on the feline team there's nothing they can do. If others have this experience it significantly reduces the opportunity of the cats getting adopted. Please improve your visitation processes.

Ricardo Vargas: I am currently at the admissions center at KCCAC, and I would like to raise recognition to Derek, who just demonstrated high morals, professional ethics, humanity, and high respect for pet owner rights.Two women walked in with a dog that they apparently found on the streets. One of the girls behind the counter scanned him and found a microchip on him. They pulled up the owner's information, and Derek politely informed the women about the right procedure:1. Notify owner2. Wait for the owner to claim their pet3. If unclaimed, pay the adoption fee4. Take ownership of petThe women became upset that they had to pay for a dog they had found and clearly stated they could have kept him. Derek repeated how the process works and stated once more that the dog has an owner and they have a right to recover their pet. After having to repeat himself several times, he told them how they wouldn't like someone taking their dog.The two women walked out with the dog in tow, and Derek promptly followed them gathered necessary information so they could notify the owner and involve the authorities.I hope he sets an example to all staff here at KCCAC, as he clearly reflects the values that a place like this should uphold. Be proud to have someone like him working for pet and pet owner rights.

I Am Remnant: Definitely doesn’t care too much about animals as far as I can see. Disappointed. I called and called only to get transferred to different departments until I finally got to someone. I found a mother cat with eight kittens. I can tell she just had them. Because the blood and other things that come with giving birth. I was told that they couldn’t help. The mother looks like she may have been attacked by a dog. She has a hole in her body. And seems like she can’t see very well. It breaks my heart because I don’t know how she is going to be able to watch over her babies being in that condition.She turns her head a certain way oddly so I am really concerned. I can’t take her in but my daughter goes out to try to feed her and give her water and put a box out there with training pads that we use for our dog in a box. She has to pick the mama cat up and then the babies out the pads in there and the animals back in there. It’s really sad because she doesn’t seem to be functioning correctly. And these pet places don’t seem to help at all.

Brody Nick: I came to adopt a kitten for my girlfriend as a kind gesture! she was so happy to have a new kitty in her home & i think her little home was finally complete! a day later the cat is constantly vomiting bile & won’t eat drink or anything! we took her back to see if they could do a check up they said “there’s definitely something obstructing her bowles!” so we were going to do surguery after we found out this would be thousands of dollars for a cat we just got we thought kcpp would help! no they did everything to make sure this cat didn’t come back to me! they made sure to not take blame for anything so now the kitty was stripped from our home & im not allowed to get her back after weeks of them not helping me & making me feel at fault for this poor kitten i just adopted! ill never refer this place never will be here again & i feel for the MANY other family’s this has happened too!

I was sad and I wanted to look at cats. We hung around for over an hour (maybe closer to two or three. Bless those poor workers 😅 I know they were sick of us but were too nice to say) I didn't tell them why we were there, I couldn't speak it aloud but we played with some of the cats, and my boyfriend fell in love with a sweet little orange guy who we decided to name Gideon. 🧡It was tough having a new cat so soon after the last one, but I think he needed me as much as I did him. The silence hurt me more than his presence so for that, I thank KC Pet Project for putting up with my indecisive-ness and for being so good. Highly recommend. 💖 Enjoy the small spam 🧡

Just Sturgis: I love the KC Pet Project organization and what they do, but this particular location is not great. It's not very well kept and the staff there seemed sort of apathetic and somewhat disinterested in helping me resolve my problem.I say this with some degree of sadness as typically this organization is on top of things. By contrast, the KC Pet Project main location is extraordinary. It's extremely clean and organized and the staff at that location or wonderfully empathetic. Maybe Zona Rosa was having an off day? I hope so.

April Al-Mahdawi: After going to several places to find a new kitty, I called KC Pet Project in Zona Rosa, and they told me they had a whole room of kitties to choose from! My children and I went and held several kittens, and one caught our eye. The process was easy, and the staff was friendly and were able to help with questions. We took him home that day, and he is an amazing cat!

The staff inside applied for their credit card for me. The limit is $5500 Yes, since April last year, I have paid a total of $2064 (13 months) to the credit card, and $1400.65 was deducted in interest, and only $663.35 of the principal was repaid in 13 months, which is simply robbery! Don't buy their pets, and the cats I bought are not purebred cats! ! As much as I love it, I feel cheated by this pet store! When you apply for a credit card, the interest rate on the credit card will not be explained to you. If they said so, I would definitely not apply for this rubbish credit card! Amanda Quisenberry: Horrible customer service. We came here Sunday on Mother’s Day to just look at the puppies bc my daughter wanted to go in and look. We stood looking through the windows at the puppies for a good 15 min with no one approaching us to ask if we needed help or anything. Another family came in and immediately was greeted and put in a room to see a puppy. After giving a nasty look to these so called “workers” I was able to get someone to let us see a puppy. After we were done looking at the puppy I asked the guy how much the puppy was and he replied “let me go put the puppy back and I’ll come back out with the price”. Well he never did instead he went OUTSIDE AND IGNORED MY REQUEST. So then I went up to another worker and asked him the price. He said “the puppy is $5000 with $1000 off right now with our deal going on but this is just an estimate we would have to run numbers and see” This place will never have my business after the rude customer service and the shady business practices I will not purchase an animal from here. Found an AKC REGISTERED breeder and the dog was only $1200 not $5k. You need to work ion customer service with these kids you have running this store. Worst customer service ever. 0 stars!

Arrived 8min before open so waited and tried to walk in at 12 on a Thursday when it states it opens but had to wait a good 10min after till the employee arrived to the store. So don't go as soon as they "open"...After waiting almost 20min, we were disappointed to find out their vet was still on vacation or took another one as others mentioned in their reviews so there were absolutely no animals in the store. Not a single fish, hamster, or puppy. Left extremely disappointed. Wish they would post somewhere on the website of social that they don't currently have any pets.

(she used the bathroom within 10 minutes of her being at our house) We had waited a day to see if it was going to be ongoing or if it was just that night. it had ended up getting worse Monday night so we took her back up to petland to complain on Tuesday, they wouldn’t do anything about it, didn’t even offer to pay the vet bills, even tho they KNEW she was sick before sending her home with us. We ended up taking her to our vet and gave them a sample of her stool. turns out she has a very RARE disease (it could possibly kill her) and they said it was caused from spoiled food or bad water. This place is ABSOLUTELY disgusting if you see the conditions they leave their puppies in. We absolutely adore our puppy but will NEVER be returning or buying another dog there again. she is starting to do better which is good.UPDATE! 3/22/23our puppy (Bambi/ BAM BAM) is doing great now. she was constantly sick with something when we first got her, she finally ended up getting better & now she’s an 9 month old healthy pup! the only bad side about that is we’re pretty sure her growth was delayed, ( during the time she was sick she wasn’t growing, losing weight, & she when she starting getting better she went from an 10wk old to a 5month old in just a little over a month.) alongside that, she never really went thru that terrorizing puppy stage until now, which imagine a 50 pound golden running straight at you, full speed trying to break your knees, tearing anything and everything up, etc. 😂 but still wouldn’t recommend buying a pup here. we just happened to get very lucky and our pup made it through the sickness. i’m sorry for a lot of you who lost your pup due to it. here are some recent pics of bam bam!

A land rover pulled in behind us and a man sat there and smoked a cigarette for about 15 mins while watching us and 4 other groups walk up the door and then return to their cars to sit and wait. He saw at least 5 cars just leave and then watched me and a group of four others Stand by the door waiting for another few minutes. For clarification the guy in the Landover was the owner of the business. Just plain unprofessional.

369 Production: I got my boxer here, and he’s perfect! But after reading closer about this place, I’m not so sure they’re who they say they are. Pretty sure they don’t use private breeders like they lead us to believe.

In addition, if he has Giardia when you take him home, testing for Giardia will not be covered under the 14 day warranty, but the $12 medicine will be. Petland will offer no customer assistance and the company supposedly paying for these things is an insurance company, which says it all.

WD: I visited the store last year and it was the absolute worst experience I’ve ever encountered in any store. The staff was busy chatting with each other and not attentive to customers. I waited approximately 15 minutes before I interrupted the staff, and gave them a piece of my mind regarding their own inattentiveness and insensitivity. Naturally, I took my business to their competitor. If I could give a zero star, I certainly would.

Smh) also upon reading previous reviews an issue of racism with a previous client with this same women was pointed out and I feel as though that could've been a contributing factor to her behavior (as I am back as well) who knows. Either way, very rude attitude.

Have not used them yet. But wrking with the salesman & explaining I was looking for something for aggressive chewers. Something to last that isn’t chewed up in mins. Grabbed a ‘ Mammoth‘ bone since it looked like it was nicely smoked with marrow visible. I usually get these from my local butcher, some ribs, & was recommended to get the knuckle bone. All we’re incredibly low, low quality. Very very dry & marrow was basically a façade. Looked full but tried to scrape and just dry bits & pieces fell out. My dog will hardly sniff them much less chew them. Over $30 spent on bones that aren’t being touch :(. wasting $$ is the worse right now! Wish I’d of not taken the plastic off the knuckle & I knew for fact they’d accept a return on that & the big bone cause it was a totally waste of $30. The owners are well informed on the products and have always been such huge help in pointing me in the right direction. They are very passionate about pets which makes me comfortable going there with questions for my cat baby. I love this place!!

Why am I doing as such? 1) as far as I have ever known they are a no kill shelter — this is not true. 2) they don’t use euthanasia as a source of last resort - they do it just to free up space.What was done to Poppi was unbelievably wrong on many levels. Poppi had a rescue willing to pull him and ensure he was put into a loving foster or adoptive family. That he was properly loved and cared for.There was quite literally not one good reason to euthanize this dog and you inhumanely stole a life — just to do it.I’d be ashamed of myself if I were in any of your shoes….

Tracy Gray: If I could give negative stars, I would. Wayside Waifs murdered a dog that legally belonged to another rescue, claiming ownership based on false information. He had no bite history and they euthanized due to barrier reactivity after less than a week, even though they were told we were actively working on finding a foster.UPDATE: It was NOT untreatable. You did not do a proper behavior assessment, and your people admitted as much. And we even offered to come handle him ourselves. Save your lies for the publicity ops.

emily sunseri: It was posted online that someone attempted to bring a dog here and they told them to dump the dog back where they found it cause they needed “permission” from animal control, they have repeatedly shown they do not care about animals safety and care, do not support them.

Ashley SoBougee: I had a better experience the second time around with adopting. I came in and talked to a rep. I told her that I wanted a small dog. $35 special. I got a poodle. I Luv him. I enjoyed the experience.

David Varner: Got there right at 5 after being told by someone that they were open for this event till later. Rude people told me they were closed and would not let us even look. Terrible. Will never go there again. As a business owner myself, I go out of my way to accommodate people even if they come right at closing. What is more important? Adopting an animal? Or going home to sit around and watch TV?? Will NEVER go back!!!

Mike: Don't try calling to see if the one dog you might be interested in is available. We called twice (within two hours of them opening mind you on a week day).It went to their voicemail both times. We then made the 20 minute trip out there to be told the dog was already gone. Basic communication skills aren't there.

Cathy Roney: We were excited to get our dog until her personality started changing and she started whining a lot, has tripped her owner several times. Later when asked to bring her back the lady on the phone said, yeah, those puppy mill dogs are very unstable. We were never told she was a puppy mill dog, just that her owner was being evicted and couldn’t keep her, running a puppy mill will get you evicted. We were deceived and lied to and now they say we can’t give her back for at least 8 weeks. If you want to trust these people that’s on you guys. I don’t recommend them at all.

Ruthie Wu: I found my perfect cat (now emotional support animal) here and I’m on my seventh foster today! I love the staff and how much they care not only for their animals but the community. It’s one of the biggest shelters I’ve visited and they take great care to make sure their rescues reach the right forever home for them.

Lauryn Massey: Both me and my sister have adopted cats from Wayside and both of us have had bad experiences. We have the sweetest cats, but hers brought Ringworm home to her other cats (still dealing with months later because it's so contagious, and that they insisted had multiple negative ringworm tests) and mine has a gum disease they didn't disclose to me that requires a $1000+ dental surgery in the next few weeks. I emailed them about it and they said they noted some inflammation in his front teeth (not the ones that have actual issues, also no notes of it in the medical forms they gave me). We don't trust their vets, or maybe the cats aren't examined enough but either way expect a lot of vet bills after you leave this place. I tried fighting for them to cover part of my cat's surgery because it's legit been four days since I got him, and he did not develop this gum disease overnight, but they want me to schedule an appointment to see him (they know I live an hour away) before telling me if they would help cover the costs or if they could provide the surgery and they won't reimburse anything outside of Wayside. Super disappointed.

Thomas Hook: We had our pet cremated there and they were amazing. They helped us bring her in on a soft bed and give us time to say goodbye. Then when we got her back they give us a lot of things to remember her by and a note that made us ball our eyes out in the parking lot. The two ladies that were at the front gave us all the help we needed and helped us through the process.

Phil Wieand: I had my cat cremated at Wayside Waifs just last week. Rachael and Victoria are amazing. When I brought her home I decided to look at the ashes of previous pets I've had. 2 of them were not done correctly and I had them done in another state. I contacted Victoria and she let me bring my other 2 pets ashes in to be corrected for free. They turned out great and the way you expect ashes to look. I am very impressed by the service I received for the pet memorial services.

monica dabbs-logan: Only putting one star because I have to to in order to post this review. Zero stars would be better. Their policy on looking at dogs is awful and hurtful to families. You shouldn’t be able to look at multiple dogs back to back and make other families wait for a decision to be made before they can even have a chance. We went to look at a certain dog but was told she was in isolation and wouldn’t be able to be seen. Only to hear an hour or so later that another family was given a chance to see her. We were able to see her but after we fell in love and wanted to adopt her we were told the other family finally decided and we’re taking her. Once you move past a dog, that dog should be fair for anyone to adopt if they fall in love with them. If there isn’t an $30 hold on the dog it should be fair game. Absolutely heartbreaking to see and play with a dog and fall in love and know she would be a perfect fit only for another family to take her. Even though we were there first we didn’t even have a chance.

Dani Costanza: Do not use their grooming services. Staff was not helpful and seemed resistent to check my dog in for his grooming appointment (we arrived 10 minutes early; other stores have checked him in and taken him back early in the past). Upon picking him up, he was still completely wet and it does not feel or smell like he was shampoo'd. It smells like he was just hosed down, spritzed, then barely dried. I paid for nail trim/grind, teeth, ear, and eye cleaning and none of these services were performed. Go to another PetSmart salon for grooming and avoid this nightmare.

T R: DO NOT RECOMMEND! I've never experienced such poor customer service in regards to returning an item. We bought a dog bed that states it has a removable cover. Only a small piece of the bed cover can be removed thus not worth the buy for us. We returned to the store with our receipt and were told by an older woman that it was "too damp" after we had washed it and to return back later afterwards to "see how it smells". We returned the next day and were met by two young associates. They inspected the bed and were sure we could return it but asked if we could wait for the manager to arrive to approve the return since the bed no longer had it's tag (we had bought it without the tag). We left the bed there and kept our receipt and later returned to an older woman telling us that the bed was now not returnable because it was "too soiled"?? The bed was just approved through the other two associates and was not soiled on prior to the return. We had made sure it was cleaned and in the same condition we had bought it for. We even had our receipt with us.Never again will I buy from this overpriced store. Shop at your own discreetion but just know they do not have the customers best interest at heart. $150 wasted on a bed we were unsatisfied with.
