Janae Galbearth: I’m fairly new to taking care of plants, but every time I come in, I feel like I leave with more information!Not only do I mostly buy plants from this shop, but the company I work at does, too, pretty consistently! We are all extremely happy with everything we buy.On the weekdays, I usually see the same two folks and they’re always friendly and informative. I’ve had my oldest plant from them for about a year, and they have walked me through the entire process of caring for my babies.Thank you and you know I’ll be back!
Maryann Barbon: What a fun shop! They have such a great selection of various plants with different care needs. There were plenty of less common plants there too which wad a treat to see. My daughter enjoyed finding all of the lucky cats for a prize and I enjoyed walking out with another plant. The added care notes were agreat addition.
Caitlin Pounds: PLENTY of rare plants to choose from! Prices vary, a little on the high side for some. Super nice guy upfront helped us!! And if you spend over $50 they give you a free polaroid photo! It’s silly but it actually solidified the fun shopping experience I had. I sadly don’t live in KC but will be returning if Im ever back here.

Kian Thiessen: I’m just a guy shopping for a Mother’s Day gift, and as someone who doesn’t know anything about plants, this shop is undoubtably the best place in all of Kansas City that I could have gone to. The staff was unbelievably knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and efficient. Not only that, they also potted the plant for me, provided me with care instructions to give to my mom for the plant, and even gift wrapped it!! I will never, ever even think about going to any other plant shop when Virgil’s is this great.

Both workers in the store offered to help us and went above and beyond making sure we got the right size pot for our plant, had care instructions, got it replanted and even gift wrapped. Amelia Lee: Wonderful plant shop with the best customer service. I found this little shop before going to Costco and absolutely loved this discovery. The shop had a range of plants from snake plants, rubber trees, pothos, succulents, and pileas. Plants are also reasonably priced, and a repotting service is provided if needed. I had wonderful customer service where she was very helpful in answering my questions, providing her experience with certain plants, and just checking in as I was deciding between their great choices. It's a cute store with a lot of great plants and great help from their staff. Absolutely love and recommend for plant purchases.

Angie Ramphal: Why You Should Make a Trip to Waldo GreenhouseWaldo Greenhouse carries a beautiful assortment of perennials such as begonias, petunias, geraniums, impatience, marigolds and so much more. They have gorgeous healthy hanging baskets that are vibrant in color. Their pot collection is varied in styles, colors, textures, and sizes. When you purchase a plant and a pot, they will pot it for you with quality soil at no charge. They also have thoughtfully put together pots with flowers already arranged in them for those who don’t have a yard or pot to place them in. If you aren’t an outdoorsy person, they also have a greenhouse to explore that is stocked with a wide array of houseplants for everyone’s liking. Waldo Greenhouse also carries perennials, herbs, veggies, bushes, trees, high quality soil, organic fertilizers, seeds, bulbs, and much more. I love that Cara and Craig are welcoming owners who make you feel at home while you’re pursuing their nursery. They are a small business that deserve and appreciate our support.

They definitely have new customers for life!!

First Street Software.: A little pricey compared to the big box places. But always a better variety, and the plants themselves are always great. There is actually staff that knows the products as well. They actually have enough staff, that makes a big difference when you need help. 😁
Linda Harris: I bought some pots. I tried to return and was told that I had to have the receipt. I put the pots on my credit card. They were not going to give me my money back, only store credit. They could tell the pots were theirs. Why make me produce a receipt if all I am getting is a store credit???? I came home and was lucky I did find my receipt. I just thought it was poor customer service.

Courtney Rose: The Guild was the PERFECT venue for our urban/ downtown KC wedding dreams. Not only is it stunning but it has everything you need to have your entire wedding in one place. Their outdoor garden was beautiful for our ceremony, the lobby was spacious but cozy for our cocktail hour, and the main room was grand and elegant for our reception. The staff was so sweet and accommodating throughout the entire planning process. On the day of, they made sure our day was as perfect as we imagined. We cannot recommend this venue enough!

For the price, you won’t find anything like it in downtown Kansas City. Not only is it a completely stunning, photogenic venue with an outdoor garden space in a fantastic location, but it has unmatched customer service. Chelsea, Darren & the rest of The Guild staff made us feel like VIPs from our venue tour to booking to planning to wedding-day & even after. They were kind, respectful, knowledgeable, responsive & flexible. All of our guests were in awe of the venue and wedding day in general. Many said it was, “one of the best weddings they’ve ever been to,” (and not just to our face).Book The Guild. You will not regret it.

They outdoor ceremony space is just so cool, but what I like is that even if (god forbid) you have a rainout The Guild's inside ceremony space is so dope. That chandelier though! On top of that you've got such a great staff that really cares about making your wedding day perfect.

Reese was venue manager on sight the day of and she was FANTASTIC.The venue is stunning, with the gorgeous chandelier, subway tile wall and the red brick wall all work together in such an elegant way. There are both bridal and groom suites, a garden space, and reserved parking lots.The Guild is one the most beautiful venues' in KC with a wonderful staff.

Mary McCollum: We loved this place but this year our beautiful tree would not drink water, buckets of needles fell off the moment we arrived home, and has only gotten worse in following days. We’ve tried reviving spraying with water and gave another cut but it’s past revival. after 180 for the tree and 250 in total, would have hoped to have a gracious response to helping us replace the tree. We called and explained the situation and was disappointed by the response, and unwillingness to work with us to replace the tree. Given all of our other wonderful experiences We were frankly expecting them approach the situation with more compassion. Of course, we didnt want to be in a position to ask them to replace a tree, but it was dead upon purchase, and will not make it to Christmas😢 the photos show the amount of needles that fell off the moment we got home with the tree, and has only worsened since.

The staff was so nice and the price was really good and there was good quality trees even though most of the trees were gone. Our toddlers still had fun looking at the trees and choosing one to take home. And the cashier have em candy canes after asking if it was ok and gave em pumpkins to decorate too it was a good first experience. Next year we'll come earlier

Tatiana: I cannot say enough good things about Larry’s nursery. Not only is the staff helpful and kind, but the shop itself is gorgeous and so relaxing to be in. They have an awesome selection of plants and as a self proclaimed “crazy plant lady” who owns over 20 plants (if I wasn’t in a tiny apartment, I’d have more), I can tell you that where you get your plants from matters!! I’ve been buying plants and have been gifted many plants over the years and I have never had a plant from Larry’s Nursery give me problems- no pests, all plants have survived, etc. I can’t say the same is true about other places. Get your plants from Larry’s Nursery and support a locally owned small business!

Faye Shepherd: I went for the first time about a month ago, and I've gone several other weekends since then. They have awesome selection, healthy/large plants, and best prices in the area that I've seen. I see several reviews of rude staff, this has not been my experience at all (and I go on Saturdays which is BUSY). I've interacted with multiple staff, including cashiers, and all have been very nice and helpful. They also have a nursery cat named Janice who is an absolute cutie.
alejandro rivera: As the elderly clerk at the counter rudely responded to my question, even before I finished asking it, about why a purchase plant had died, they do not guarantee their plants or accept returns. Perhaps they get asked that question often. Given their high prices I would expect better quality. I now only buy from nurseries that stand behind their products.

Edward Straley: I am a frequent customer of Soil Service Garden Center and have been for years. I have also purchased some items from Soil Service Nursery across the street. They use to have staff that was very knowledgeable on Roses. Today I drove specifically there to get something to treat my roses from Rose Midge. I asked at the desk if there was a knowledgeable person on roses and the young girl informed me that everyone there was knowledgeable. Do I asked her and showed her a picture of Rose Midge and she had no idea. I asked if anyone else on staff would have any knowledge she proceeded to the official and came back and said no one knew anything. I was surprised as I knew they sold roses or use to.On my my way home I called Family Tree Nursery in Overland Park and spoke to Lydia, she was extremely knowledgeable and gave me 3 solutions in detail for the treatment. This is very important to me as I have over 30 Heirloom Roses and do not want to loose my investment. I will be visiting Lydia this Saturday for further assistance.Edward Straley

Stephanie Bell: I recently purchased a serviceberry tree from Soil Service and the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. I wanted to make sure that I picked the correct tree for our lot size so I consulted with two extension/master gardener hotlines. Both of them, unprompted, name dropped Soil Service and complimented their staff and quality of plants.

Bryan and TK DeWitt: We were looking for a special maple tree for our backyard, and had been unable to find it anywhere in the Kansas City area. Several of the other nurseries suggested we try Soil Service Nursery.Although they did not have the specific tree, they did have such a wide verity we were able to find a great second choice with the assistance of staff.So, if you are looking for something unusual I would try Soil Services first before heading to Family Tree or other local nurseries.
D Thomas: This is without a doubt my favotite place to get plants in the city. Theres a great selection of native and edible plants. Several tropicals whith loads of information on caring for them. The staff are friendly and know their store well. The prices are often much better than suburban lawn and garden as well.If you're into permaculture gardening this place is a must stop.

The buildings are set up in a really accessible way, lots of ramps. Pricing was typical. They had the almost out of season items I was looking for, and the middle aged gardner man in the perinials section offered good recommendations. My visit felt like stepping through a portal into a magic jungle.

Walked in and was quickly escorted out and told the store was closing because they sent all their workers home due to rain?(which had stopped about two hours prior). Tim Parnacott: Beautiful, unique store in the Crossroads. I went in looking for a bouquet for Valentine's day, and was able to find the perfect one. Kristen was very helpful in explaining the different options available. Then she helped consult me on putting together an arrangement for my mother's grave. Fantastic experience, and would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for flowers/greenery.
Clara Gillett: Verdant is my favorite store in all of KC. It’s pretty small but absolutely lovely inside and out. So many plants and flowers and beautiful things. I love the ceramics and candles too. Everyone who works here is always friendly and it’s easy to ask questions. I love the high quality of everything they sell, I buy gifts here, and lots of things for myself too!

Paul Secor Morel: The store is lovely, and their designs are really beautiful, but the value for the dollar has been pretty disappointing. We purchased a convivial bud vase from them (which we love), but the last three times it has been filled, the flowers have died very quickly - something I haven't encountered at other boutique florists in KC. I don't mind spending the money on quality blooms that will last, but these were purchased Friday evening, and were dead on Monday. One zinnia (the second bloom was purchased a la carte bringing this bud vase to ($14+tax), and some greenery was lovely when purchased, but quickly disappointed. The flowers had a fresh cut, and plenty of clean water, so it seems the quality / age of the flowers they are selling at top price is questionable.
Keaton Ward: I don’t know why, but every time I buy my wife flowers here they seem to last for weeks! Great people work here too.
Alison Hart: Sooo incredibly wonderful helpful to me as I’m out of town and my mom lives in Kc! They custom made a same day bouquet and had it ready for pick up within hours. Highly recommend!

Celeste: Verdant is the coolest! The vessels are made locally, by Convivial. They acquire their items from local farms, shipments coming in weekly. They don't place orders for specific types, they take what their supplier wants to showcase from their farm. I also love their candle game - return the vessel for 50% off the next one! The staff is son incredibly passive, it's a blast to shop in there!

Maggie Boone: I love Verdant so much! I came across them one day a little over a year ago and fell in love!!! Their flowers fill my home with beauty and keep me feeling peaceful! I also love their bouquets as gifts. Recently, I got married and asked Verdant if they could make me some of their bouquets for my wedding. My bridesmaids got their medium bouquets and we ordered some of their 4” bouquets and made them into boutonnières. I personally ordered the Verdant Bouquet and it was beyond gorgeous! Robert Walding: Their website says they have plenty of Buffalo River Rock at this specific location. They have absolutely zero. Definitely will not come back for landscape material again. Wasted my time and gas.

Heather Just Heather: Suburban is PHENOMENAL!!! This amazing facility/business has been providing garden, plant & landscaping services for my family for GENERATIONS!!! They always have gorgeous specimens of many, many veggie, ornamental, fruit, nut & shade trees & bushes, flowers, roses, houseplants & planters... anything garden, plant or lawn related they usually have it & in abundance. The staff is great & the place is huge! So big they have electric carts for customers to use while shopping. Grateful we have this business so close to home.

Linda P: This was my first time doing my annual garden shopping at this Suburban location and I was very impressed! It's the end of the first week of May when many other areas garden stores are out of items and plants and they still had everything I hoped to find in stock. Employees were restocking everything as I walked through the aisles and were able to answer every question they were asked. They had all the blooming annuals, herbs, the variety of tomatoes I wanted, and large bags of Happy Frog potting soil I needed as well. Checking out was very efficient and there were plenty of friendly cashiers ready to move everyone through as quickly as possible. I will definitely be back to this Suburban location next year!Update: I returned again this year to purchase my plants, soil, and other gardening needs. Everything I noted as wonderful last year is still wonderful! I'm a lifetime fan of this Martin City (KCMO) Suburban Lawn and Garden location!!

I Don’t know if it’s the manager or the owner, but the lady behind the counter I overheard say I could never come back if I didn’t have my dog on a leash. I didn’t think it was a big deal, and I would have put him on a leash if they would have asked. Shes just very angry and rude. The greenhouse was empty so I just didn’t think it was a big deal all they had to do was tell me when I walked in and I would have fixed it. Everyone said hello to him until the very end I hear I can’t come back.
Joseph Killeen: I started out at the 135th Street location, where the service was very friendly, but the selection and quality of plants was poor. I think I am going to have to completely give up on 135th and the Roe locations.Then I headed out to the K7 location. That store has not let me down yet. They had everything I needed in stock. It's in the complete opposite direction of most of my work, but it is worth the drive to be able to purchase everything in one spot.Update 12/29/22: The Lenexa location isn't letting me down. They had all the foundation plantings I needed for a residential realty job I'm trying to wrap up for the year. I also purchased a yard of landscape rock to top dress a planting bed.
