donna vanfosson: We recently moved our father into The Gardens. Everyone has been so nice and accommodating. Lisa, Jenn, Ashley have all been great to work with. The dining room staff deliver great food and that is very important for the residents. We are extremely pleased to have him apart of the The Gardens family. Everyone is so friendly.

Sheri Kerns: The environment is beautiful. From the way the apartments are arranged and the central floorplan being user friendly to the tasteful decor makes this place peaceful and feel home like. The staff are personable and go out of their way to be helpful and kind. The admission process was swift and smooth. House keeping kept this place sparkling. Medications are administered in a timely manner. The food was super good just because they had so many accomodations to what you might be in the mood to eat. Quality live entertainment was provided as an option as well. The entire staff made this a already good place to a great place to be. The front desk staff always had a positive greeting. Our whole family felt like this was moms home. Thank you Gardens staff.

I couldn't be happier with the care she receives, the attentive staff, the variety of activities, or the facility itself. I searched for 4 weeks touring dozens of communities to find the right home for Mom. I believe no facility is absolutely perfect, but what I appreciate so much about The Gardens, is the great staff is always attentive and willing to listen and help address any issue or concern that I have raised. Grateful for such a safe, clean, secure, and happy home for my Mother.

Susan Friend: My mother was in the assisted living but we had to move her to another home. There was very little interaction between the staff and the people living there. We found my mother in the same dirty clothes and a lot of times they weren’t even hers. Our concerns over health matters they didn’t follow through on or if they did it was not in a timely manner which made the health issues worse. They no longer had any activities for them as it seems they keep loosing their staff. My mother was also physically harmed and injured by staff and needed medical attention. This establishment is NOT to be trusted with your loved one.
knoiro: Ashley is absolutely great to work with, Camelia, the director of Memory Care is fantastic! My dad was there only for a short time, but I could not have asked for a better situation for him. Everyone there is so very helpful and courteous.

Dona Funke: The Gardens at Barry Road has been an answer to prayer for my family. My mother-in-law relocated to Kansas City after a fall-related injury. She experienced a major transition as she left her home, friends, and everything familiar...literally 1200 miles away! The Gardens was a shining light in that difficult time. The staff are friendly, and they genuinely care for the residents. The transition has been challenging for my family as well as we learn to care for an aging parent. The Gardens has helped us so much through services they offer, but even more so through the wonderful people who have truly become our friends. We are very thankful!
Gary Merrill: My father has lived at the Gardens at Barry Road for about 2.5 years. The staff is very friendly and they get to know each resident and the resident's particular needs. There is an activities director and there are a variety of outings/entertainment/exercises/birthday parties that the residents can choose from. Meals are varied with a choice of two daily specials, or the resident/guest can order off the menu. There are special buffets for residents/family around Xmas and Easter with visits from Santa and the Easter bunny. The staff will even check on the resident if they don't show up in the dining room. Rooms are cleaned on a daily basis and prescriptions delivered as needed. There are always some improvements/maintenance going on to improve the property. We hope to be there several more years.
Terri Moody: The Gardens at Barry Road is an excellent choice for assisted living. All of the staff we encountered from nurses, aides, and office/ administrators, to dining room staff, maintenance and housekeeping etc were pleasant, polite, helpful, and friendly to my mother (for short term respite care) and my mother-in-law (for assisted living), as well as, to our family when we visited. The office staff were so helpful and knowledgeable in walking us through the business end and paperwork.They demonstrate genuine tender loving care for their residents. They made our loved ones feel at home and cared about. The facility itself is clean, beautifully decorated, and homey, not at all institutional feeling. The daily menus were varied and delicious. A deciding factor for us was the Christian atmosphere and no-smoking policy.

Ryan Diehl: While there were initial administrative and clerical issues, the level of care and compassion exhibited by the staff here is unparalleled. They truly cared about my mom. She has a history of being a difficult patient and their care and attention brought out the best of her as she entered the final leg of her journey. I am thankful we made the choice to bring her here!

Avoid this place.

But most of all, I enjoy the games - hand and foot canasta, Mahjongg, poker, bingo, Kings in the Corner, Rummikube, Dominoes, and Pinochle, played with my many new wonderful friends!

Kenneth Baker: My mother-in-law lived at Brookdale from Sept. of 2022 through most of March, and passed away Mar. 24 2023. My father-law is still living there. The staff was a tremendous help and very sympathetic when my mother-in-law became gravely ill. Throughout their stay they have received excellent care and friendly service at all times. They enjoyed all the programs, gatherings and social opportunities provided. Brookdale was and remains a perfect fit. My mother-in-law stated it was one of the best places she ever lived.

Megan Spohrer: It was a real push to get my mother to agree to move out of her unwieldy house into an apartment where she had the extra support of great meals, regular cleaning services, and lots of social activities. A few months later she was telling people it was her favorite place she ever lived. Sadly, she passed recently. But the staff and residents have been super supportive to my dad. The routine of meal times, movie night, and other activities give him extra social support he wouldn't have had being alone in their old house. The staff has bent over backwards to accommodate his needs. My siblings are all so grateful to know he's in a great place that suits his physical and social needs right now.

Dean Fitzsimmons: The staff is really caring and compassionate. The administrative team also cares deeply about the quality of care the residents receive. As I interact regularly with the patients, I understand how safe they feel.
Angie Connley: Full disclosure: I am the Sales Manager at BLSL. That said, I absolutely love this community. The residents are happy, clean, content, engaged and well cared for. The staff is tenured and caring, not just “going through the motions.” I’ve worked other places that I’ve left because I couldn’t say the same and I couldn’t “sell” someone something I didn’t believe in. I believe in BLSL, I believe in what we do everyday. The best part of working with Memory Care residents is when I see their personalities shine through.

Rhonda Crane: My mother was at the end of life in Memory care and my sister and I had to stay 24/7 to make sure her meds were on time and one day her meds were 11 hours late before she received it and it was for pain management.They need to go through and clean house as far as management and staff go.They were hateful if we asked for help or were always busy, which was not the case. At meals the patients struggled with opening up containers and condiments and they didn’t offer to help them. All the do us sell you to get you in there and then it all changes once you get in there. I overheard one of the front office saying that if a past resident’s family didn’t pick up their stuff they were going to put it out on the curb. I was appalled.The community fee you never get back and they can’t explain what it’s for.I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. All we wanted was our mother to be taken care of. We would of moved her but she was in no shape to be moved.

During the pandemic they all cared for him and gave him love right up until his last days while we couldn’t be there with him.

Penny Lane Emerson: Katy at Benton House was SO helpful and patient after my dad had a stroke last year and I came in for a tour. She was knowledgeable, friendly and professional and made sure everything was handled so there would be no more stress on my family and I's part. Matt, who runs the social activities, is patient and very good at his job and makes things fun for all! Cindy, the head nurse, is so busy but always made time to really explain things when I had questions or was feeling anxious about my dad and his meds etc. Overall, this facility is VERY well kept and has an amazing team!

Cathy Thibeau: Mom made the move to Wexford about two months ago. She had been in another assisted living facility, and the care there was nothing compared to Wexford. Staff at Wexford has really helped Mom feel safe and valued. I worry so much less about her now!
J Brown: Wexford staff at all levels and positions earnestly care and engage with residents, have a cheerful personality, and greet them by name from day one. Not only does the resident have a feeling of belonging and being at home, but the family has an assurance that their loved ones are genuinely cared for. Wilma Hahn: We are still in the beginning stages of managing my sister's care long distance at Wexford. I am very impressed with the staff whom I did meet when I was there for several weeks as my sister was adjusting. I'm afraid if I start naming names , I may overlook someone. The comprehensive services of Interim in house home care makes a big difference for our family to know that our relative is checked on regularly. I am glad that we decided to sign up for the maximum per month services before I had to return to our home in Colorado. It is a big comfort to know that the staff are friendly and open to discussing her needs with the several close local friends who are able to check in with my sister regularly. They, too, are learning how best to navigate the available resources at Wexford on my sister's behalf in ways that work for the staff as well as for my sister. I am impressed with the patience and kindness with which our family and friends have been met as we make this huge adjustment. A number of staff members demonstrate exceptional skill in dealing with severely memory impaired persons with humor as well as coming up with practical solutions.

Kim Wilson: Assisted living was fine, but memory care was not. Help was very nice, place was nice, but they were understaffed. Several times I went in, esp. in the evening, you wouldn't see a staff member for 10+ mins. Residents falling often. After numerous falls and our 2nd serious fall, we didn't go back.
Chloe Neal: I have been a part of this stellar community for nearly a decade. I have stayed because, I have been extremely impressed with the culture here, and the white glove service we provide to to the elderly. They treat us employees well, and that transcends a positive energy that the residents get experience with us. It truly is snowball effect. I personally have always loved the elderly, and I feel blessed to be around such wise, historic, motivational individuals on a weekly basis. It really is like a big family here, and some of the residents have been here 20 years + years, and same with some of the employee's. My sister, brother, and myself have all worked here , and loved it. If you're parents are looking for a place I highly recommend Senior Star Wexford Place.They will love the culture, and get to experience people like myself , who truly love being here.

Starting with Margaret at front desk, Julie, Director of Nursing, Emily, Dawn, Darin, Dimple. Everyone became a part of our family. Their apartment is beautiful, activities exceptional (yea Susan!), facility is top notch. Not too big, clean, very well decorated. I must add, this staff has weathered through this pandemic with complete professionalism, followed all protocols. We love this place! ❤️

Cindy Shanks: After visiting several assisted living facilities in a search to find the right fit for our parents, we decided on Addington Place of Prairie Village. We like the layout of the building, and having everyone on the same floor is a plus. The hallways are spacious, and we love the friendly staff members, who seem to know everyone’s name. We especially liked the park-like atmosphere of the grounds, with a walking trail all the way around the facility. Our parents appreciate having access to courtyards if they want to be outside. It was clear that a lot of residents enjoy living there. The living suites are a nice size and it did not have the feel of a dorm room. They have communal dining, and can also offer private family dining. Therapies, Hair Salon, and Mani/Pedi services are all done within the facility. It’s a lovely facility with caring and attentive staff.
Susan Mikulecky: We were so happy to find this gem last fall, needing to move a parent to KC to be nearby. From the introduction, leasing, move-in , to observing the day-to-day care, positive staff, neighbors, and adding on one medical emergency dad experienced needing urgent attention from Addington’s nurse and quick ambulance to hospital it is ALL REASSURING, professional and a comfort.Please know this is a one story, attractive and manageable home for your loved one! The size and gorgeous neighborhood cannot be beat.
Megan Abrams: My parents have both been moved into this place over the last two years. They are doing great, with good healthy meals and excellent care. The staff is attentive and always kind. A lot of activities, but can also have privacy in own rooms.
Elizabeth Garver: Our family would like to say thank you for the special care provided to our mother who was a resident at Addington Place in Prairie Village, KS for the last three years. She received a lot of great care but we would like to give particular thanks to the people who enriched her life, both during her stay, and at the end of her life. From the aides who checked on her regularly, the cook who made the salads for her at lunch, to the nursing director who helped coordinate her care - we are so appreciative. AP has evolved into a wonderful assisted living facility with a staff who cares about the people who live there. Well done!
Mark Smith: In July of 2018 my father moved into Addington place. When we toured the facility I was impressed by how clean it was (and still is), The staff and residents are friendly and caring. He is eating better and has even gained a couple of pounds. I feel relief he is taking his medications and I can email the nurse with any healthcare concerns. His mood has improved and he enjoys taking part in the activities.

Vickie Shuster: My mother has been at Addington Place in Prairie Village for over a year. She lives in one of the Memory neighborhoods and I could not be more happy with the caring nurses, CNAs and visiting Nurse Practitioner that visits twice a week! Lots of activities, with two Directors coordinatingactivities for all different levels. The staff is very friendly ready to help whenever you have a question. Mom and I have enjoyed many an afternoon on one of the many porches with rockers and fountains. I love the way the Memory Care neighborhoods are set up with the apartments surrounding the living areas. Mom and I enjoy the live music they have each Friday Afternoon! My mom also enjoys "Lunch Brunch" when her and her friends go out for lunch on Wednesdays. The food is wonderful and they have lots of events thru the year that includes the whole family. Mom and I have made many new friends and I enjoy visiting her at her new home!
Kimla Yost: After visiting several long term care communities we moved our mother into Addington Places memory care "neighborhood". She has been there almost a year and we have had a wonderful experience. They offer a lot of social events for the families and daily activities to help mom stay active and connected. We are so pleased we found Addington Place, not only has mom made many good friends but we have made life time friends with the families we met here. The food is GREAT and all the staff are very kind, compassionate and knowledgeable!!! AAAAA+

Traci Morris: Today my mother received a phone call from an employee around 5pm who said my grandfather had been found "unresponsive and aspirating on the floor of his room around breakfast time." NO ONE called her or my sister when this event happened. He was taken to the hospital and they were not notified until the evening. He's been there all day without family!!! I called Benton House to ask details and was told a completely different story that the report there stated he had "gone in for breakfast and not acted himself ....so they called the ambulance." I was also told that it was documented that they'd tried without success to reach my mother and sister at the time it happened. Their phone records show no calls received from Benton House or other 913 area codes except my sister's friend. He is now at the hospital, not doing well, confused, and still aspirating. We are obtaining medical records and phone records to compare to their report. They have one main job, to care for our family members. They are supposed to notify us when anything happens. I'd give them ZERO stars after today, but 1 is the lowest.

charline franz: Two months ago we moved my brother to assisted living at Anthology on the Plaza from his home of over fifty years. He was resistant and I was anxious. Anthology was brand new with no track record. We soon learned there was nothing to worry about. This is a beautiful, state of the art facility located in a vibrant commercial and cultural part of Kansas City. A review of the monthly activities calendar was enough to assure me that my brother would be fully occupied with an abundance of mind-stretching and body-strengthening exercises designed to meet each resident’s needs. Above all it’s the staff at Anthology that makes this place so special. Not only are they energetic and superbly credentialed but also they are warm, caring people, who are never too busy to stop and chat with a resident or drop by the daily Happy Hour where residents gather with family and friends to tell of their day’s adventures or those of days gone by. It didn’t take long for my brother to settle in and become part of “the gang” as the residents like to call themselves.He has taken the greatest pleasure in decorating his apartment that glows with natural light and views of the Plaza. During my last visit we spent the day careening around Target picking up a few finishing touches (well maybe more than a few). On the way back, as we approached Anthology, he smiled at me and said, “I’m almost home!”
