KC Rock Band & Guitar School of Music: what do users think?
Amber Mainard: My son has been taking drums from Laura Lee Crandall at KC Rock Band & Guitar for a few years and often expresses how grateful he is to have such a positive learning environment and such an encouraging, talented teacher. We've watched him grow as a musician and as a person. He is a part of the Monday night rock band. Laura Lee, Matt and all of the other teachers provide the skills necessary to excel. I would (and do) highly recommend KC Rock Band & Guitar!
Stephanie Kreamer: Our daughter has been taking voice lessons here for over a year now. We have been so thrilled with our choice to attend KC Rock Band and Guitar. They are so professional and understanding. Our daughter has made built great relationships and always enjoys her weekly lessons, but most importantly we are impressed with the development of her voice.
Megan Bannen: We have had an outstanding experience with KC Rockband & Guitar. It's more than just music lessons; I feel like we're part of a community. Can't recommend them highly enough!
Molly Lund: My daughter expressed interest in playing ukulele at age 7 and, not knowing whether it would "stick" or not, I just Googled "Ukulele Kansas City" and came across KC Rock Band and Guitar, which was close to our home. From the first call with Laura Lee to inquire about lessons, I knew this would be a great experience. Laura Lee and her husband, Matt, are the owners and teachers and generally wonderful people. All of the teachers are fantastic - my daughter now takes ukulele and voice lessons - and it is the most fun, least pressure environment you fill find. They encourage children and support them and find common interest in popular music that makes everyone want to practice more! It's not just popular music, though - all of the teachers are very skilled in what they do and are such talented performers themselves. In over 2 years of weekly lessons, my daughter has never once complained about going. She loves it and so do we!
Ryon McKivergan: My son started in Sept. 2015. We enrolled him in one-on-one lessons with Laura Lee, one of the instructors. He had just started playing drums with the school band in August 2015, so had very little experience before starting classes. By December he was not only learning the full drum set, but he was learning to perform songs as well. Over the summer he also joined one of their Rock Bands and enjoys every minute of it! The instructors have been amazing and very patient with the students. They seem to know what each student needs in order for them to succeed in music. I would highly recommend KC Rock band & Guitar for anyone who wants to get started on their musical journey or to advance the musical knowledge they already possess!!
Ashly Hampton: All of the teachers there are great teachers. They are super friendly as well.
Jason St. John: Our son is a student of KC Rock Band and loves it! We love it, too! As parents, we appreciate the professional yet personal approach of Matt, Laura Lee, and their team. They are not just outstanding musicians; they are outstanding instructors! They care about each student and work to teach and inspire each to develop, grow, and stretch to new musical heights. It's fun, challenging, and rewarding!
Deb Fleury: My son has played the saxophone for about a year and just had the opportunity to participate in KC Rock Band & Guitar over the summer for the first time. It was such an awesome and memorable experience for him. He was excited to practice (without being nagged by his mom :)) because he knew if he improved, it would help the sound of the whole band. Matt and LauraLee are great motivators and make the entire experience enjoyable for their students! We will definitely do it again!

Kenneth Haas: Superb! My grandson's guitar skills have significantly improved since he started taking lessons with Mr. Joe from Taylor Robinson Lessons. Joe is a knowledgeable and supportive instructor who always encourages my grandson to try new things.

Yer Pichardo: He is a wonderful teacher and friend.
Jude Strawser: In her lessons there was a good balance of vocalize to warm up my voice and time for learned new repertoire.

KC Music Academy: what do users think?
Charise Garcia: My child attended a total of (2) lessons with this group and they've already deducted roughly $250.00 from my account. I let the owner know that my child would no longer be participating with their organization and an additional charge from them was then debited. Very shady dealings and I would think twice about providing this organization with any banking information. I've never been into their location nor have I ever met the owner I spoke with him over the phone only to provide routing and account info to reserve the date for her 1st lesson. I never verbally authorized debits at will from my account nor did I ever sign anything.
Jesse Phillips: KC Music is fantastic! They give lessons and sell instruments. The instructors and great very professional, kind, patient and talented.
Jeremy: I concur with another reviewer. The owner is extremely passive aggressive. Also he must be hard or hearing because he blasts classic seventies music from a loud speaker on the outside of his storefront. If he bothered to stand outside, he would see the myriad of people going in and out of the barber shop and DSOD wincing as they pass by. Not good for his business to say the least.
Zak D: Experience on the retail side of things is always a pleasure, the owner often goes out of his way to help me out. Great place, if the owner is any indication then I imagine his teaching staff are good too.Their new location is awesome, and they keep some gorgeous guitars for sale in addition to accessories.
Avery: Owner is very unprofessional and rude to customers. Would not recommend this establishment to ANYONE. Take your money to other local small businesses or Guitar Center.Edit*** I appreciate your response to my review. I must say that just because a customer has a negative opinion does NOT mean that they are a “troll” or a “fake review”You are giving substance to my claim of your unprofessionalism via your response.
Joe Schuette: The guys a crook already paid for my daughter last month of drum lessons and he takes her off the schedule tells me she can make up the lessons but schedule is always full ....don't recommend it .Mark to your response we agreed her space would b left open so she could finish her last 4 classes if she was able the next week you had it filled and turned away a paid customer i don't need to talk to you anymore ive'l been lied to enough face to face and on the phone .
Scott Crawford: KC Music has been wonderful in every aspect for lessons and instrument rentals. My family has always appreciated the personal treatment and individual attention that comes from Mark Ballard and his excellent staff (Freddy, you're the best!) My daughter is going into her 3rd school year with a violin from KC Music, and she still has classmates claiming it's the best looking violin. Keep up the great work, KC Music! We will be back!
Suzanne Trimble: We love KC Music! If you want lessons, an instrument, or both, KC music is the place to go. Mark has been very helpful to us over the years and I highly recommend his store and the teachers at KC Music.
Jane Pender: If you want to take music lessons up in the Northland, I would definitely recommend these guys! Great, friendly service and very knowledgeable. Reasonably priced lessons!
Rhonda Lyne: KC Music is a great store and has been very supportive of the KC Music Community! Highly recommended.
Lahna Saccone: KC Music is my favorite music shop in town. They helped me find the absolute perfect gift for a friend when I was in KC visiting family. The gentleman who runs the store was really patient with me while I asked questions and with their help I eventually found the perfect instrument for my friend, super reasonably priced too. Support local business! Check this shop out for sure.
kAte payne: Mark Ballard and the crew at KC Music are terrific! The friendly greetings and easy conversation between families and staff are a testament to a well-run learning establishment! Their kindness and professionalism make instrument buying and lessons a wonderful experience - they truly want you to leave happy and satisfied. They are always willing to help you reschedule a lesson so that your child won't miss out or get behind learning their music. If you are sick of feeling like a number on the schedule, check these guys out!
Shelby Elifrits: I took lessons from this music store for 2 months. Everything was fine the first month, the second moth everything fell apart. I was given misinformation 3 different times are the time of my lesson, resulting in no lesson 3 different times and was expected to be okay with it. I didn't sign up for lessons for the next month, they still took money out of my account, refused to return the $90 and Mark then called me a liar and hung up the phone on me. That's a TERRIBLE way to run a business. And you should NEVER speak to your customers that way. The lessons teachers are fabulous. But I do not recommend ever taking lessons here unless you'd like to be ripped off. Good luck.Edit: Mark, you're right, I didn't provide you with 24 hrs notice of the lesson reschedule, I provided you with 3 days!! But you're right I'm the liar. Saying I'm "fabricating stories" (That's calling me a liar) And hanging the phone up on me is going to make me want to come back have lessons. But its your business, you do what you want. You're more than welcome to call your customers liars and hang the phone up before anything is resolved. You definitly are not going to keep customers very long if you continue in that manner. But, like I said, it's your business, you're welcome to treat them how you choose.
David Langford: Nice shop, very reasonable, thank you
Chris Ferrara: Great little shop. Happy with recent purchases; a snare stand for my little Yamaha DD-65 digital drum pads and a chain drive bass drum pedal.
Balls jr: Helped a lot and is very knowledgeable
Stephanie Moore: He spent time explaining different basses to me, making me a package to get my husband an awesome Anniversary gift to get my husband started playing again!
Stephen Johnson (AvengeTheSIc): Cool little shop. Its small but they have a decent collection of instruments.
Jenny Smith: The owner, Mark Ballard, is very knowledgeable about the instruments and accessories he sells. KC Music is a great place for lessons as well.
Dave Lingerfelt: It's always a pleasure to go into KC Music. If they don't have what you need rest assured they'll get it quickly. Mark's knowledge of music gear and the local music scene is always great. I much rather prefer supporting a local business instead of the big box stores or an online retailer.
Front Stoop Cigar Box Guitars: Mark always does his best to make me a great deal. He's s nice guy too!!!

Music House School of Music Prairie Village: what do users think?
David Harwood: As an adult beginner I wasn’t sure if Music House would be a good fit. It turned out to be a great fit. Joel has me making great progress across a variety of playing styles and the weekly lessons provide real accountability to practice regularly (the key to success).
Christy Hagan: Music House has been wonderful for our two boys, for drums and piano. Their style of teaching really gets the boys engaged in learning their instruments. The teachers have learned to meet our boys where they are, and use music they love as a tool to learn new instruments. We couldn’t be happier.
Jennie Konomos: My 7 year old has loved her introduction to music at Music House. She is in beginning piano at the PV Music House location and has aspirations of working up through other classes and instruments already. The staff and teachers there are passionate, kind and fun. I would definitely recommend Music House Prairie Village to anyone looking to take group or private music lessons.
Don jr Culbertson: Great people here and a great way for young people to explore and cultivate their musical art... my son is starting guitar early in life and has the good fortune of being given lots of tools to work with by terrific teachers.
Daniel Patrick McBride: My son Alex didn't have a place to play during COVID when his band broke up and the Music House in Prairie Village has been a great place for him. He plays guitar in one of their rock bands and they play lots fun and popular music. Terri is a wonderful teacher and Brandon, his guitar instructor, has done a great job teaching Alex music theory. If your child is interested in playing or singing in a rock band, this is a great place to be.
SingLangston: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMy teacher chose a specialized, very specific, and perfect approach in teaching me. This let me know that he didn’t just bulk all his students in with one way of teaching. This is very important and appreciated. I would definitely recommend your services to others.
Kristen Christian: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,ValueMy son has been dying to learn the guitar! Everyone at Music House has been so welcoming, professional, kind and encouraging! I strongly recommend Music House!
Steven Marin: Positive:Communication,QualityMy son comes home from each lesson excited about what he just learned and shows me as soon as we get home. The teaching approach of learning songs early on has clicked with my kid.
Glen Walters: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMy Children have been attending Music House for over a year now and they love it. One doing private drum lesson and the other has worked up to advance guitar.Great structure, friendly staff, and very convenient having 3 locations.
Marissa Brown: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueWe have been so pleased with the instruction that our son has received with his guitar lessons this year! He enjoys going every week and has learned so much in just 5 months. They communicate very well with us and seem to be very organized!
Kaitlin Slowik: Great place for kids to take music lessons!
Erin Windsor: If I could give less than 1 star, I would. They were so condescending, they spoke to me like they're smarter and belittled me when I tried talking to them about an issue I was having with the program. The only bad review they ever got, they resonded by saying they didn't know the person, I find that very unprofessional. They're overpriced and are not worth half of what they charge. You can get lessons online for free and some are even better quality this. This is by far the worst place to learn music! I do not recommend!!!!
