M C: Fantastic training and people
Brady Brady: At RyuShinKan - Kenshukai, the monthly fee is $30 (my jaw dropped when I first heard this). There are NO special fees, no contracts, no required uniforms, and no goofy yelling. The worst part about this dojo is that the instructors give you all of their attention--about 80% is one-on-one instruction. Another bad thing is that you'll have to learn real self-defense instead of proving you can do the splits or break a board with your head. The discipline you are taught at this dojo, Oyata-Te, does not require strength or agility (or yelling), but just precision and practice. Lee & Tony are not only highly skilled in their art, but also excellent teachers. This dojo is fantastic.

Cristi Williams: We absolutely love it at Foreign Language Academy! Our son has been in their Spanish immersion program for the last 7 years. This school is a hidden gem in the KC Public Schools! The teachers are knowledgeable, dedicated, hard working, and caring. Dr Ramsdell and his staff are top-notch. Every adult there is vested in the children, and because there is such a low turnover rate for their students, everyone knows everyone. They utilize the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids "Leader in Me" program and International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program provide a well-rounded education that develops new language acquisition, accountability, and educational inquiry. Dania Camerillo: Wonderful facility. Awesome hard working and caring teachers. I appreciate them at a time like this when we are in quarantine. Both of my children’s teachers have reached out to check on them and that is important! It brought smiles to their faces. The only thing that I question is for the years my children have been there all I get is rudeness from the office staff. I’ve only approached them with respect. Yet, they are short and snippy. I understand everyone has bad days, but as a healthcare professional, I have bad days to but I do not take it out on my patients. Wish they would account for how they make certain parents feel sometimes. Other than that, I would recommend this school to anyone. Best KCPS school there is! Thank you FLA for your hard work and dedication to all the students! You are appreciated.

Jenifer Calandra: We ordered two bento box dinners for take out, and both our selections were delicious! The Katsu chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the sushi was clearly prepared by someone with incredible knife skills. The sushi fish was fresh and didn’t smell fishy and old like it does at some other local establishments. The bento boxes also came with miso soup, salad, and two crab rangoons, all of which was also fresh and tasty. Even the rice side was fluffy and good! Will definitely be ordering from here again!
Laurel Jensen: My husband and I ordered several rolls of sushi for take-out. We were disappointed by the size of the rolls compared with how much we paid ($40). We classed it up at home using some of our own fun dishes.We might try one of their soups sometime while dining in—my husband saw a couple eating soup at a table while he was waiting for our food; the quality and amount looked much better for the price. Not satisfied with our experience here yet, but I will update the review if we try it again and enjoy a better experience.

Joshua Eaton: My father used to frequent Kabuki in Crown Center when I was a kid. I remember the kimonos and the horigotatsu tables that have a recess in the floor. The sushi would come out on wooden boats if you ordered a decent amount. I recently went to the new spot in Brookside for dinner with my wife and son.We started with an order of Edamame and the Green Lip Mussel appetizer they were featuring which was served hot and had a spicy mayo based sauce on top. Miso soup was great, had a salad also. Ordered Tempura Shrimp Roll, Salmon Nigiri, and Sushi Ume, chef's choice. Impressed with the size of cuts on the salmon. Plenty of food for 3 and came on the wooden boat. Great presentation with banana leaves and fresh orchid. I think I'm right that the sushi chef is the original owner's son, so there's some provenance here. I don't review much, but this was worth a review and pictures. Will be back.

The space is intimate yet spacious, homey and elegant all at once. 80s classics played as we enjoyed our miso soup, which, by the way, was delicious. Walked up to the door during the hours posted on the door and it was locked. Worker came out and told us they only take reservations on the weekend and to leave. As I was sitting down eating a couple with an infant came to be let in and were told they have a big reservation coming so they were closed to public…as I was in there. Then a couple came a few minutes after and they let them in no issue. So let me to believe they literally denied someone service because they had a child with them so I’d say not family friendly at all.

J Bern: I ordered the fried chicken curry and it came out quickly and was very tasty. The waitress was very nice. Their drinks are non refillable and water bottles will cost you $1 each but you are able to bring your own drink! I would recommend this place for smaller groups of 4 or less. It looked like there was a sweets shop in the same building, unfortunately they were closed when we went.
James: This is officially my favorite restaurant in KC! The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, with beautiful art on the walls and lots of natural light. Everything on the menu looks amazing and was obviously curated by the owner with a lot of care. The salmon onigiri was a great starter, the shrimp and calamari were so fresh and cooked perfectly, and the sasadango dessert imported from Japan was light and refreshing. The person who served our food was so nice and gave us recommendations for our food, which I really appreciated. This is a great place to go if you want fairly priced, delicious food that won't make you feel heavy afterwards. I feel very happy knowing I supported a small business and an owner who has very caringly brought fantastic and fresh Japanese cuisine to KC.

Meaning that the sushi chef curates the meal off of what is best that day.This experience starts at $50.00 per person and you can go up from there.Everything we had was fresh and flavorful. It was nice to not make a decision about what we wanted to eat and how much to order.The sneaky new favorite were the “sweet” rolls at the end of the meal. They were shrimp with a sweet coconut sauce, so different.

Abigail Scott: My husband and I have been twice now, and it will definitely be one of our regular date-night places. We got the same server both times and he is incredibly attentive. I got sushi both times and loved it, and I drank a scorpion the second time and it was lovely. The first time we got the appetizer that is pork on a stick (I can't remember what it's called); it had a sweet taste that worked really well for it. The second time we got cream cheese rangoons for our appetizer. Most cream cheese rangoons kind of taste the same to me, but these tasted way better than most.
