KC Rock Band & Guitar School of Music: what do users think?
Amber Mainard: My son has been taking drums from Laura Lee Crandall at KC Rock Band & Guitar for a few years and often expresses how grateful he is to have such a positive learning environment and such an encouraging, talented teacher. We've watched him grow as a musician and as a person. He is a part of the Monday night rock band. Laura Lee, Matt and all of the other teachers provide the skills necessary to excel. I would (and do) highly recommend KC Rock Band & Guitar!
Stephanie Kreamer: Our daughter has been taking voice lessons here for over a year now. We have been so thrilled with our choice to attend KC Rock Band and Guitar. They are so professional and understanding. Our daughter has made built great relationships and always enjoys her weekly lessons, but most importantly we are impressed with the development of her voice.
Megan Bannen: We have had an outstanding experience with KC Rockband & Guitar. It's more than just music lessons; I feel like we're part of a community. Can't recommend them highly enough!
Molly Lund: My daughter expressed interest in playing ukulele at age 7 and, not knowing whether it would "stick" or not, I just Googled "Ukulele Kansas City" and came across KC Rock Band and Guitar, which was close to our home. From the first call with Laura Lee to inquire about lessons, I knew this would be a great experience. Laura Lee and her husband, Matt, are the owners and teachers and generally wonderful people. All of the teachers are fantastic - my daughter now takes ukulele and voice lessons - and it is the most fun, least pressure environment you fill find. They encourage children and support them and find common interest in popular music that makes everyone want to practice more! It's not just popular music, though - all of the teachers are very skilled in what they do and are such talented performers themselves. In over 2 years of weekly lessons, my daughter has never once complained about going. She loves it and so do we!
Ryon McKivergan: My son started in Sept. 2015. We enrolled him in one-on-one lessons with Laura Lee, one of the instructors. He had just started playing drums with the school band in August 2015, so had very little experience before starting classes. By December he was not only learning the full drum set, but he was learning to perform songs as well. Over the summer he also joined one of their Rock Bands and enjoys every minute of it! The instructors have been amazing and very patient with the students. They seem to know what each student needs in order for them to succeed in music. I would highly recommend KC Rock band & Guitar for anyone who wants to get started on their musical journey or to advance the musical knowledge they already possess!!
Ashly Hampton: All of the teachers there are great teachers. They are super friendly as well.
Jason St. John: Our son is a student of KC Rock Band and loves it! We love it, too! As parents, we appreciate the professional yet personal approach of Matt, Laura Lee, and their team. They are not just outstanding musicians; they are outstanding instructors! They care about each student and work to teach and inspire each to develop, grow, and stretch to new musical heights. It's fun, challenging, and rewarding!
Deb Fleury: My son has played the saxophone for about a year and just had the opportunity to participate in KC Rock Band & Guitar over the summer for the first time. It was such an awesome and memorable experience for him. He was excited to practice (without being nagged by his mom :)) because he knew if he improved, it would help the sound of the whole band. Matt and LauraLee are great motivators and make the entire experience enjoyable for their students! We will definitely do it again!

TR Music & Voice Lessons: what do users think?
Kenneth Haas: Superb! My grandson's guitar skills have significantly improved since he started taking lessons with Mr. Joe from Taylor Robinson Lessons. Joe is a knowledgeable and supportive instructor who always encourages my grandson to try new things.
Mitch Shawn: I booked a voice lesson 2 weeks ahead of time and one week before the lesson the company cancelled my lesson and failed to reschedule. I did recieve a full refund but i would have preferred that the company fullfill the date and time originally booked
Yer Pichardo: He is a wonderful teacher and friend.
Jude Strawser: In her lessons there was a good balance of vocalize to warm up my voice and time for learned new repertoire.

Explorers Percussion: what do users think?
Tim Romero: Sad it's closing
Jenn Claar: Going to miss this place!Best instructors in town!
Justin Rollheiser: One of a kind store. Drummer's paradise! It's a shame they're closing, but happy retirement!
thewesty: These folks have been in business in a niche market for 35 years. They're doing it right by taking time to understand their clientele individually. From beginner to Mike Portnoy, they've got your percussion needs covered. Please keep them thriving by stopping in once in a while.RIP in peace Explorer's. As of 3/31/23 they're closed forever
Jessica Snyder: You will be missed!
Simon Joly: Cool place and good service. Wide selection of cymbals ans vintage kit. I wrote an email one week before heading in but never had news.
Justin Clay: I love this place so much; it got everything to buy for us, like Drumset and stuff, and you know
Dead Bug: No better spot in town. They got the folks with info. Leave GC for those whom play with their fingers.
Ben J: I’m a longterm but infrequent customer of explorers. I’m not primarily a drummer but they always make me feel welcome. I recently came in to get a ride cymbal to replace one I’ve never really liked. They let me taste test a bunch if options while staying within my budget. I left happy a month ago with a killer Istanbul 20” and am still happy. Thanks for another great experience
Gage McClanahan: The customer service was amazing and the store was really cool, I will be returning for all my percussion needs.
Ric Gillmore: Easily the best music store in the area. If you're a drummer or percussionist of any kind, it should be illegal to shop anywhere else. 😎🤘🥁
Z: They have stale listings on reverb and on their site. When you reach out or ask about it, it "just sold." Reverb offer was declined, no counter offer. Three days later, Lorene sends a message stating it sold "elsewhere." Right, just like when I inquired directly about a drum kit two weeks ago they have listed "in stock" on their site...same thing...offered an alternative color that was expected in a week or so...never removed the original listing I inquired about at all...still on their site then and right now. I became a customer when I purchased a set of cymbals costing more than $1000 three months ago. They were decent on the phone, Lorene handled the transaction. Well the set came without the cymbal bag inside I inquired about. I messaged Lorene and she said that it was "strange" as she supposedly set aside a specific set that she verified had the bag. When I called in at first she claimed there were no bags in these sets...which is why I was not moving forward and looking elsewhere as this was a gift for someone special. She calls back a few hours later verifying that "ohh yes it does come with a bag inside I don't even know that thank you for telling me." Well, I placed an order, it got here minus the bag. Apparently they set aside an "already verified" pack yet sent a "sealed" one by accident...I told her direct email it did not contain the bag as she stated...since the sales rep on the phone just pushed the issue to me emailing her....well still to this day she never followed up on the bag yet she claimed she was reaching out to Zildjian directly about this...False advertising (listings of items they don't have in stock to gain your interest) and deceiving customers is not a way to earn business in this industry. She tried to charge me for shipping on the drum set I inquired about two weeks ago that "arrives next week" when everyone else is doing free shipping on the product brand new 45 day warranty included. She did follow up on that with the wrong color sales push, yet failed to get bag to me on the gig bag she assured I would have in the package. Lorene, next time do as you say and stop posting ads in which you don't even have the stock for listed as "in stock." Based off of your replies to previous negative reviews I will not entertain your reply and take ownership of your mistakes and maybe then you can grow as a business and an individual.I will be sure to stay away from Explorer's Percussion and I encourage you to leave the same review if you are experiencing the bait and switch listings too.
Keith Lehman: Explorers is the drummers paradise. First, walking in to a beautiful display of a mixture or achoustic kits set up and a nice hardware display. Second, a great cymbal section where they are well displayed to test and compare. Third... No annoying guitar players trying to impress everyone with their latest solo shred!!But seriously, the people make this place the best. They are so helpful, knowledge and take the time to recommend what they find works well for them. I have to drive an extra 15 mins passed Guitar Center to get here, and I'm happy to do so!!
Joseph Sorensen: I've done a lot of business with them and have had a good relationship with them. They have helped with most of my needs.
Kage Song: I had a bit of difficulty with communication, and felt perhaps an unnecessary sternness that felt a bit... angry with me for attempting to squeeze and save pennies I don't have to begin with. However, they had a selection of items I was not able to easily find in my budget. I guess I could also wish they were a bit more knowledgeable though. I would have expected someone running a full percussion store to have enough general knowledge to warn me that something may not fit correctly. Fortunately, I was able to solve that myself.
Rick and Tricia Townsend: Customer service was excellent, went in for first time, greeted on entry, had everything I needed, and ordered a want not a need for my 28 inch marching bass drum. I will definately be returning.
Sayer Canova: Nice large store with plenty to feast your eyes upon. Awesome staff, kind and helpful and cool to discuss all things drummy. Excited to return!
Michael Vasquez: Wish I had come to you guys first. That was a fast transaction. No problems at all and the price was fair
Amy Rice: Nice selection of a variety of folk, world, and classical percussion. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable also.
Ronnie Mills: Thankful to Loraine and the staff for helping me order my first DW kit! luv luv luv - y’all made the experience fun.
Ruthann Ellis: These folks know what they are doing. Great selection, special orders and knowledgeable staff.

School of Rock: what do users think?
thisguy1975: Do not go here if your child has ADHD, which is a neurological disorder. They will never advance past rock 101 due to minor behavioral issues even with the talent to advance.
jamie holmes: It's not all about the music for me, it's about the confidence and self-esteem that has been instilled in my daughter. Have seen such a wonderful change in her since she started School of Rock!
Liz Hicks: The management staff and the instructors have a lot of passion for what they do! Their enthusiasm is palpable and it encourages the students to tap into their musical genius!
Matt O'Dell: Katie is a great teacher and helps kids enjoy music so they are intrinsically motivated to practice and play. The music that is part of School of Rock aligns with the kids' interest. Katie is a wonderful person and am so grateful we found her.
Angela H: Engaging. My boys had a great time (almost 11yo’s). It really piqued their interest in music.
Chantal Savage: Another stellar season at school of rock! Thank you to Tanya and teachers for all you do!
robert bennett: Great for the whole family. We got in to support my child's interest in music, and now four of the five of us play there (two in the "adult band").
D Oehlke: These peeps are f*ing awesome. My kiddo has ADHD and it can be a struggle sometimes in new environments to keep her focused. They had her attention and kept her on track to playing some minor chords quick fast and in a hurry. The fack that the progam includes private lessons AND band practice to socialize the music skills is fantastic. Will be enrolling shortly, may even look at some lessons for me as well!
Michael Emery: THEY MAKE LEARNING FUN. My daughter has been going to The School Of Rock in Parkville for most of the past 10 years. She has become an amazing guitarist and vocalist. She has learned to play drums and keyboards. She has made great friendships and learned about teamwork, professionalism and performing on stage. We have had so much fun.The teachers and staff at School Of Rock are consistently good but Kyle Cimino has always been a blessing to my family. He was my Daughters first guitar teacher when she was 8 years old. I have been consistently impressed with Kyle’s ability to make learning fun for his students.
Jiang 357: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
Rosemarie: We really liked all of the music instructors & they are great with kids(my 3 stars are for them). Can not say the same for the young woman who works the front office. She has zero social skills. The prices are very high and the layout of the programs is a little confusing.
Karen Saulat: I love the instruction my son gets from his teacher. He has grown leaps and bounds musically. I love the comrade he experiences with his other band mates in the performance program. The performances they have after 11 weeks are top notch. This is something you can't get at any of the other music instruction places out there.
Bethany Ward: My daughter has been going to SOR Parkville for over a year! She has gained such confidence and a great amount of strength and self worth under the guidance of SOR Manager, Matt and her wonderful teacher, Ara! We cannot say enough good about Matt and Ara and their leadership of professionalism during the time we have been apart of SOR. Just exceptional. I gotta brag a bit here and just talk them up a bit. :) If it wasn't for the company being under the guidance of Matt, and if they didn't have such wonderful teachers such as Ara, that company wouldn't be as strong as it is today. That company was made strong and has the great reputation it has now at the Parkville location because of great staff like Matt and Ara! I'll just let that be known. I hope they never leave, because I'd hate to find another location to go to. Kudos to Parkville and their exceptional loyalty to the students. It's because of these two, you can all see the passion they have in genuinely wanting to teach the children. Highly recommended going to this location and meeting these two teachers :)
Jennifer Washam: These teachers and staff genuinely care about the students. My son has grown as a musician, band member and a person due to his involvement with School of Rock! Couldn't be more happy with all they do for the kids.
TheBeckers13 Nelson: Our son is still new to the program but we’ve seen a lot of progress so far! We can’t wait to see more!
A. Silly Idea: Great prices, felxible and great teachers!
David Tuttle: Kids get opportunity to express their talents, abilities, and desires in a constructive environment with other kids who have similar interests.
Angel Seufert: My daughter was hesitant about switching teachers, but the very first day she came out of her lessons talking about all of the things that James did to make learning fun, easier and more interesting. She talked about his amazing knowledge of music and how he can just listen to a song and play it (she was really impressed by that) without any sheet music and he has taught her how to play songs without switching cords so often. He's made her excited about playing her guitar again in a way that she hasn't really been in a long time. She's also excited about going to see the kids in concert. She's hesitant to join the Performance Band because she's only 10 and feels like a lot of the kids are older than her and she doesn't know them, but she wants to go and watch them in concert and see what it's like.
Jessica Bolin: We have tried a few music instructors for our son and never could find the right fit. I heard about Rock School KC from a co-worker and thought we would give them a try. Nick is the BEST instructor and really knows how to work with kids. We are so thankful we found this place, Andre is always asking when is it time to go see Nick! Keep up the great work guys!

Crazy John Brooks: One of Kansas City's LIVE MUSIC LEGACIES for sure!I have personally relied upon them for SO MUCH over the decades.Top-of-the-line instrumentation, stage equipment, live show back-line, hard-to-find components, stage hand and tutor referrals, home audio config. and a host of other oddities! They are very well staffed with kind knowledgeable professionals.Hats off to Big Dude's for Keepin' it Real here in KC for so many years! One of the coolest indoor retail locations around, also. Groove Pilot: Last month I was looking for a good double-kick pedal option. I called Big Dude's and it went clear off the charts silliness after Larry told me about the 50th anniversary DW 5000 carbon fiber DK.Um, yes please!Of course we talked shop, and I hollered at the "usual suspects, he also queued me in on some other great additions to my drums and away I went. Incredible! Thanks, Larry. You melted my face off that day. Also, thank you Big Dude's for having cool lighting rental, etc...(we used for a video recently)Top notch as always!👊-Brandon
Jeff Panaka: Came here after some business in the city. They had a nice selection of bass guitars and bass amps here which was great. They had a PRS Bass which I’ve never seen before. It was great to play. Unfortunately, I didn’t have space in my checkin to fit a bass so I had to settle with a t-shirt. Staff was real friendly too. 5/5
Owen Sidwell: Great spot! Amazing selection, and very friendly staff. Next time I'm in KC I'll be back!
Merle Goldston Jr: This store is a big part of our community.. I wish they had more used gear and high end choices. But a must stop from time to time..
Char Rellz: Went to get a new guitar amp. Didn't get the one I originally planned on. And that's more than ok. Talked to a couple associates while checking out amps, and was directed to one the was actually perfect for me. Spent more than I planned, but the buy was totally worth it. Amazing products and wonderful customer service.
Andre Peterson (DJ Dre 1800): What a great experience working with Larry at Big Dude’s Music City!! He was incredibly responsive and asked my questions regarding a tough to get product and even made arrangements to ship it!! So excited and it has been a 5 star service! Thanks Larry!
RED BOI: I took my guitar in to get repaired and they immediately got to work and fix the issue great staff and a great selection super helpful
Connie Carcione: They are very helpful. Great place.
Eric Nelis: Every time I go to Big Dude’s the people working there are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and take time to explain in details. This is the best service I have experienced in such type of store.
Connie Graham: They lied, and did not repair my bass guitar. So embarrassing Sunday morning. Couldn't use the cord i purchased either. 😬
Doug Groninger: An associate named Doug helped me Saturday...very knowledgeable and extremely professional...I continue to look at Big Dude's as One of the top choices to look in the area for music equipment
Mike McCoy: Son was looking for a new guitar pedal, we love Big Dudes, so we made the almost 2 hour trip to see what they had. Cool atmosphere, helpful people working there, all around good experience every time. Son found a reverb pedal and is happy.
Jayce Ingham: Some of the sickest merchandise I've ever seen
Matt Lough: Larry was awesome and not only help me with the product information, but he was able to quickly get the gear shipped out for me. Awesome Service!! Thanks!
82GMC Caballero: Today I picked up the second acoustic guitar I brought in within the past year for a set up and restring. Excellent customer service and exceptional luthier! Thank you very much, Big Dude’s!
Karly Espinoza: Estoy buscando el Korg pa 700 ? Estará disponible en su tienda ?
Russell Conner: Had a great experience with their team yesterday. Very insightful answers to my many questions for microphone types and how to best use it with our band’s PA system. Thanks to the team, and I’m glad to have a music equipment store so full of solutions in KC!
Derek Whitney: Great place.....
Butch Zwiezen: I went in today... bought a 1.45 new Saddle for my Acoustic guitar.. Felt badly.. for that purchase..so . Bought a 10.00 glass slide. EVERYONE IS SO HAPPY 😁 AND HELPFUL .
Alex Marquez: Very quick response. Definitely recommend.

Base Academy of Music: what do users think?
Romon Rivera: Positive:Professionalism,ValueBAM teachers have been very patient and encouraging with my children. All involved are passionate about music and share this with their students.
Cherie BurroughsScanlon: BAM is the BEST!!!! What started as a "want" of music lessons for our 4 kids has become an "need" over the past year... especially over the past 6 months. When the world shutdown in March of 2020, BAM immediately stepped up, organized online lessons, and became a point of familiarity, comfort and joy for our kids.Despite our technical issues, attention issues, and social issues, the staff at BAM is always there.... and there with a smile. The instructors are not only world class musicians, they are world class people.
Nick Welch: We've loved having our son learn drums through BAM, once our other kids are a little older we'll get signed up as well!
liz smith: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueAll of the teachers are enthusiastic and are invested in their students, it really shines through during recitals and other events.Trevor is a great piano teacher, even virtually! We highly recommend Base Academy of Music!
