PrestonEL Tensing: This morning I came in with my young daughter. We ordered a dozen of assorted donuts. 2x milks. And I left a $3 tip additionally. We ate some donuts inside before heading home. The donuts taste delicious and fresh, BUT both myself and daughter, had these donuts literally Flushed out our system. I made the mistake of thinking it wasn’t the donuts and continued to consume them throughout the day. Each time, giving me a horrible stomach and immediately in the bathroom. I’m 40yrs and my daughter is 5. We both had the same problem. She also ate different donuts. These are the only donuts that you can definitely lose weight with. The stomach pains are really quite unbearable. We definitely won’t be back.Neither of us have food allergies of any kind.

KC Coordinating: If you’re debating on trying this donut shop out- DO IT! I’m not sure which is more incredible, the staff or the fluffy donuts. I’d say get there early before all of the good donuts are gone, but I don’t think that’s possible as I got there at 8 am on a Wednesday and EVERYTHING I tried was simply amazing. 100% my new favorite donut shop for my cheat meal!

I understand selling out within an hour of close, but 2-3hrs prior and frequently is upsetting. They need to start making more donuts or close at 9am. We went last Saturday and they were sold out of 50% by 8:30am. Today we went at 10am and they were closed.

We would eat them fresh with milk there and the memories were wonderful! The staff is always perfectly friendly and the environment is so rich with the history they have. George Robinson: I'm a donut guy, I've had donuts from all over the US, unfortunately chain stores are absolutely taking the flavor and magical simplicity out of donuts, no kidding a hundred different type of glazed donuts in that airy round or bar (which are good), the problem is real flavored donuts, the kind you dunk the classic and amazing cake donuts are disappearing across the country, now for the honest reason for this review, Donut King not only has the most amazing cake donuts in more flavors than any place I've been to, they also have the glazed and bars and such.But it's the cake donuts the original donuts the real reason you dunk donuts in milk, blueberry, strawberry ect......Donut King has them all.I still don't understand how the shop in St. Louis is voted best in Missouri, believe me it's not even close.I live in Blue Springs and have no issues driving 35 minutes to get donuts from Donut King in North Kansas City while passing on my way many large and national donut shops, I don't want just the quality I want all that flavor that comes in the Donut King donut.Hopefully those reading this review will take notice that on the other side of the State of Missouri there is a place being overlooked by so called critics, go ahead give it a try, no kidding if your disappointed at Donut King you should probably reevaluate what you call a donut.Thanks, and sorry for such a long review.

Samantha Guier: Definitely a more expensive donut outing than normal, but my boys loved it. They have some good ready decided flavor combos and you can mix and match to make your own. The donuts had great flavor and texture. We did even get a kit to make the mini donuts at home which has a small donut dropper in it, excited to take it to Grandma's.

Kelly Anderson: We go there every time we go to our dentist, which is a block away. It’s our treat for having no cavities! The place is ALWAYS empty. It kind of concerns me. This visit was the same; a unenthused worker behind the counter that makes you feel as though you’re putting them through hell having them get you donuts and the place was empty like usual. When we walked in we noticed that all of the garbage cans were totally overflowing and stuff was on the floor, the icing vats were uncovered, there was leftover dough all over the place, our table was dirty, and it’s just blah in there anymore. Very disappointed with the second person behind the counter that came out. He was very rude to my son with a situation that could have been dealt with in a nice calm manner. Instead he was disrespectful and condescending. My son is 6, I might add. So, we are done going there. It’s totally overrated and not worth the $25 for five donuts. You might as well go to Krispy Kreme. The donuts are better and the people are sweeter.

Nikki: As a vegetarian, I am sad to find out you use beef tallow to cook your donuts. Not asking specifically about that is completely on me, but I also can't find it on your website. Rebecca Ramaglia: I spent $60 on donuts delivered this morning and 5 of the donuts i ordered were supposed to be chocolate iced but they came maple iced instead. The scent of maple is overwhelming from this box of donuts and the pictures prove it. This is the second time I've had this experience so I called the store to figure out why. The woman answering the phone said she packed my box and she gave me chocolate. I clearly do not have chocoloate and offered to send her a picture, she refused the picture, insisted she packed it correctly and that I am lying and then hung up on me. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS STORE, THEY SEND THE WRONG THING AND THEN REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY COULD HAVE POSSIBLY MADE A MISTAKE. Worst customer service!

Rebecca Ishum: Doughnuts were significantly smaller than any other doughnut shops around, including doughnuts in grocery store bakery cases. I hoped they would still be tasty, but they were dry, and the icing crumbled off the top when eating them. They tasted like they were made the day before. I don't mind paying for a really good doughnut because they are one of my favorite foods, but these doughnuts are very overpriced for the size, and not worth it for the quality. Such a disappointment.I would give them 1 star, but I have to give them 2 stars only because they offer peanuts as a topping choice which is hard to find in doughnut shops at this point. Regardless though, we won't be back.

There were only a few selections of donuts, the trash was overflowing, there were napkins and other random trash on the floor. The person who helped us, was either super high or just a bit clueless to what he was doing. He barely said "welcome" or "hi" and was completely out of it. This is a great location in South KC and I would hate to see it run down because there are unprofessional people working there. However, the 3 donuts we were able to get were pretty good.

What happened to your business? The donut selection is minimal, the donuts are dried out and stale, the little bit of icing or decoration is falling off. These donuts used to be a real treat. But at $19.00 a dozen, it's not worth it. Gas station donuts are much more fresh a delicious. Sorry, you just lost a customer.

Not your typical run of the mill donut shop with bear crawls and glaze you get the option of cookie monster and fruity pebbles. Great for the mornings when you want a good donut. M P: I’ve driven past here for years and never thought it was open. I’m glad I finally looked it! So far I’ve only had the donuts but they’re the best donuts I’ve had in KC. It is cash only so keep that in mind. And there’s so much to choose from so I’ll be going back again soon.

So when that day rolls around, I am revving up ye olde engine and headed from Lee’s Summit into Kansas City for Johnny’s!!!!!!!!! The classic glazed is my favorite donut, and I’m a big fan of the cheeseburger and fries. My husband is over the moon for the tenderloin and chocolate Long John, and my picky eater son will inhale anything from there that you set in front of him! While I’ve read reviews on other platforms that yammer on about the “sketchy” location, the bulletproof glass that requires one to amplify the voice to be heard (a.k.a. “yell”), and the cash only policy, I contend that it’s not about that. The place has gotta be somewhere, and 43rd & Prospect is it! Bulletproof glass keeps the employees safe. How can you argue that? It’s not as if it’s the only place in the metro with it! And not every small business can necessarily afford the credit card/debit card fees, so cash is king. Just search the couch cushions and car floor for loose change, break open your piggy bank, or stop by the ATM on the way! Totally worth it for the satisfying treats that Johnny’s serves up…even if you can only have it once a month!😏

It was fresh, light, but had a perfect crispy outside that wasn't too thick. The chocolate icing was sweet but not overwhelming.
