Brady Hudgins: Parts of the massage were relaxing, couples massage was awkward at first because they failed to ask me or my girl if we had a preference in male or female for our massages. The older gentleman wreaked my knees and they hurt bad going on 2 days now. I have to run and go to the gym so this is terrible. Nice people but weird feeling and pain after my massage. Do not recommend!
John Glynn: Had a great deep-tissue massage from Zeff today. Really really relaxing. Zeff is super strong but knows when to apply. Some of the best calve and foot work I’ve ever had. Easy check-in/check out. Will be back.
Dan DaSilva: Recently stayed at the nearby Crossroads Hotel and booked a 90-minute massage with Christina at Solaris. I’ve seen probably fewer than a dozen different massage therapists in my life, but this massage was the best!! I will likely be making more trips to KCMO just to see Christina. Side note: Wendy was super-accommodating, and a joy to work with on booking a session!

I’m also 20 weeks pregnant and the massage was one of, if not the best I’ve ever had. He hit all my pressure points and helped relax the tension in my neck, shoulders, and lower back. My husband also said that his massage was excellent and his masseuse had strong hands, helping his back aches and pains. Definitely recommend!!

Cynthia H: My girlfriend booked a couples massage, gua sha facial and hot stones for the both of us. We thought it would be a whole spa morning. While the massage itself was pleasant and the therapists were very professional, the overall experience was a bit disappointing. I did not book the experience myself but was surprised to find after that their website does explicitly state that any add on services do *not* add any time to the booking. I wonder why anyone would want to add-on services knowing this. Personally, I would prefer to go elsewhere and get a full hour of massage and full hour of a facial for the same price or a bit more. The facial was actually just a sheet mask and a light massage so that also very disappointing. If there was a gua sha, I did not feel much of it. I cannot comment on the hot stones because they did not notice this add-on and had to refund it at the end. I’m actually glad they weren’t able to do hot stones because we would have had an even shorter massage. So overall, I am happy with how we were treated by staff just disappointed in the overall spa offerings. I also think it’s tricky that you cannot arrive more than 5 min early to the building but any less and it eats into your appointment/massage. They end promptly regardless.

Jen Talbot: Weirdest massage experience of my life. I am really struggling to find words to adequately explain this. My girlfriend and I thought Sunday massages after brunch would be a nice way to spend our day in Kansas City. We were wrong. Brunch was great, but this experience was lacking. It seemed like a grandfather and his grandson were our masseuses. The grandfather spent almost the entire time lightly rubbing my girlfriend’s rear. The grandson looked homeless and was so awkward. Apparently, they had run out of normal massage oil so we had to be rubbed down with CBD. The massage room was very run down and looked dirty. Paint peeling on the walls, window covers cracked and falling off. $280 for what? Never again.
Frank Conway: I had a horrible experience with Spa on Penn. I was calling from overseas and wanted to book a massage for a friend. The connection was poor which caused both the rep and myself to be frustrated by the need to repeat things multiple times.However, the spa rep internalized the frustration, personalized it, became testy then began telling me I needed to be patient with her and I needed to lose my attitude. She then abruptly hung up on me. Isn’t it funny how those who stridently tell others they have an attitude are, in fact, most often the ones with the attitude? At that point in the conversation, I had repeated my billing zip code for the fifth time and the town name for the sixth time. I can't imagine being more patient than that. The rep didn't even comprehend my usage of the internationally recognized phonetic alphabetFortunately, the other spa in teon was quite accommodating, patient and understanding. They were happy to take business from Spa on Penn.
Bonnie: I just received a mani pedi here. I absolutely enjoyed my visit. I was in no way rushed. Ja'Niya was my nail tech. She did a great job and kept our conversation going the entire time I was with her. I fully intend to return for my next mani pedi and hope to try out some of their other services. Parking can be a little challenging particularly if parallel parking is not an option for you.
Mandy Brown: I sent my husband to have spa day for his birthday; he's never had one and I kept the services he was getting a surprise. I've always had immersive spa experiences, where I just walk in and am guided through it, I was hoping he would have the same relaxing experience. I set him up with the dead sea hydrobath and a massage.He arrived early and was greeted by someone who told him that he was scheduled for a hydrobath and massage, but no other information. The person gave him a robe and showed him where to change and then disappeared. He had to actively search to find where the hydrobath was, and when he found it, it wasn't full. He was able to track down someone who was cleaning a nearby room and that person filled the tub for him. There was no instruction for how long he was to stay in there, so he got out after 10 minutes, as he didn't want to miss his other service (the hydrobath was supposed to be for 30 minutes). He went back to the waiting area and waited for his next service without anyone checking on him.Finally, the masseuse, John, came out to get him. The massage started by John turning OFF the spa music. After a bit, my husband asked to turn it back on because the silence and sound of John's breathing was weird and not relaxing to him. When asked if the volume was ok, my husband replied yes, and John then turned the music UP(!?). So weird. The final straw was when John used a towel that was ON THE FLOOR to wipe my husband's head. I just can't understate how gross that is.I called and spoke with the back office manager about the issues after my husband told me about his experience. They told me that the owner would be in touch the next day. That was 5 days ago and I haven't heard a thing. I wasn't going to write a review until I spoke with them, but there has been no response.I would recommend finding another spa if you're looking to have a good experience.

Amy Goldstein: I purchased 3 laser hair removal packages from Spa on Penn. I was about halfway through with my services and seeing good progress, but now the laser has been broken for over a month and I'm past the recommended timeline. I am really worried this is going to negatively impact my results and waste hundreds of dollars :(. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.
Autumn Miller: Staff seem confused about what they are doing. Forgotten services, no water offered, incorrect bathrobe sizes, mediocre massage, raggedy, stained towels. I spoke with the manager about the issues we experienced and he apologized and removed some charges, which was appreciated. We booked $500 worth of services, it just wasn't the quality one would expect for that cost.

Kelly Critchfield: This place use to be amazing and I’m sad to say I won’t be coming back. It’s chaotic and it seems like most of the employees started yesterday. There is no place to get ready after your services. I had to get dressed and apply my make-up and fix my hair in a dark room with no sinks or lighting. You don’t even get a locker with key any more. After I was given my clip board to fill out a staff member ushered me down stairs to the spa waiting room. She did not show me where I was supposed to change or any directions-I had been there before so I knew I was suppose to fill out my info upstairs-then be shown the locker room-then shown to the spa waiting room. They forgot about me. I filled out the clip board then showed myself to the locker room then had to wave down the next employee I saw to take my clip board and Remind them I’m here for the VIP package and should have been in the steam sauna 20 minutes ago. The VIP package comes with champagne-I got 2 glasses and had to flag someone down for that too. Just really sad how bad this place has declined.

I had to re-listen to the voicemail to make sure they said my name which was just comical... I came here a little over a year ago, shoot maybe two years ago and the male that was my MT was incredibly inappropriate, wanting to have lots of conversations, asking me questions like "are you a runner or a lifter" while massage my upper legs... I never went back for obvious reasons but now since they want to trick me into booking into this garbage, I thought I would share! :) Remove my phone number from your list, thank you.
Sarah Smith: Not worth the price. The staff was very friendly! However, I asked for a massage for specific areas, mostly my neck. I put it on the form and went over it with the therapist. I think maybe a total of 5 min out of the 60min massage was spent on my neck and it was hardly a massage. My neck was just stretched out from side to side (I already do that at home). I had knots everywhere that I wanted taken care of that didn’t. Also, the place is not as calming as I thought. The massage rooms smell weird and not pleasant (it costs extra for aromatherapy) When you walk in it feels more like a doctors office. I’ve gotten a massage done at a different place before for way cheaper and there, it felt like I was in a calm, quiet, garden with amazing essential oil scents in the lobby area. With this place, not so much. Also, after your first massage, the price doubles from $70 to $140. Absolutely not worth it. I would not recommend.

I asked specifically for firm pressure and the massage was light- medium. I did not feel any relief and was unsatisfied. I spoke with Haley the receptionist about my poor experience, gave her my contact info. She told me that Nadia the assistant manager would be in touch. By the end of that week, I hadn’t heard anything. In addition I called to follow up, but got the VM. Still no response. I am disappointed that I wasted my time and money.

Ryan Felsinger: Scheduled a last minute apt with this location recently. They took my card info and said “We will not charge it’s just to hold the appointment.” I was unable to make the apt as I was stuck on the floor for two hours at home from throwing my back out. Two days later I’m mobile and make it to the shoal creek location..which they would get more stars. Then I see a $65 charge from this location as well. I call and talk about it with the manager Tricia and she said we charge for no shows. I told her what the employee had told me and she cut me off, tried speaking over me and telling me for future ref we charge for no shows. I replied for future ref you should tell the employees to say that instead of telling people it won’t be charged and just to hold the apt. She was very rude and don’t recommend anyone spending their money here. School creek location they were very professional and would recommend that location to anyone over this one on the zona side.

He also offered some great tips for stretching! I definitely recommend him. The lady at the front desk was also so sweet even with me being the last client in of the night.

Back and Bodyworks was fantastic working with my husband to plan, especially since we were originally scheduled with another place until they canceled on us the weekend before my appointment. We called Back and Bodyworks on a Saturday and they were able to get me in on the same day we had originally planned and I'm so happy they could! Haley was perfect, she has magic hands and I might be slightly in love with her after this. I left feeling rejuvenated and so relaxed. I will definitely be returning! The location and atmosphere are great!

I arrived and called to check in and could not get anyone to answer the phone, even though I could see someone sitting at the front desk.A woman finally called me back, after I had called about six times. She immediately had an attitude with me and was extremely unpleasant. She said that she couldn't find my appointment and already had someone booked at that time. There wasn't anything they could do. She asked if I wanted to rebook on another day and I said I would find somewhere else because I was already dealing with extreme pain.I called massage envy and they got me in within 30 minutes. The staff was amazing and everyone was super friendly!!! Had such a fantastic experience that I got a membership and will be returning monthly.Thank you Back and body works for treating me so poorly that I found somewhere so much better!!! I will never spend another dime with your company.

Kate: Very expensive nail treatment. My nails did not look any better than a place that charges half the price. I will say that it looked like instruments were clean, , but room was not very clean.
Rachel Weimer: The staff was very friendly. I scheduled my appointment in advance and filled out the paperwork upon arrival. Only waited about 5 minutes. I had a mini facial done and the experience was very relaxing and rejuvenating. I had no idea what to expect. The only thing that could have made it better foe me personally was to know what she was using each time she applied and wiped off a product, (or to have been given a list of what she used or something) AND what to xpect after. I got out to my car and was surprised to see my face so blotchy red. A quick Google search proved it to be normal and nothing to worry about and it went away within 1 or 2 hours. Overall, great experience. Will be back again!

First, Lala is superb at her job. She is knowledgeable and professional, and she does it such a way that it puts you at ease. I did not feel overwhelmed by the skin care routine she recommended for me. She took the time to explain it and write it down. For the first time ever, I followed the suggest routine and have noticed a vast improvement in my skin. I am beyond thrilled. I have already booked my next several monthly facial appointments, which I am really looking forward to, as they are both relaxing and rewarding. The Spa at Briarcliff is a lovely, serene place and I have enjoyed going there over the years. I am now an even bigger fan of this spa, because of the excellent service I have received from Lala. He always greets me with a smile and keeps the massage area organized and clean (allergy free). After each session, I feel relief in areas that ached and needed addressed. Always a great experience.

Chelsea Brittain: I booked my massage with someone named Amanda, but when I got there it was a gentleman. He was nice but the whole vibe of the place wasn’t relaxing at all. I figured maybe he’s a great masseuse so didn’t cause a fuss, but the actual massage really hurt at some points later in the massage. I thought maybe he was working out some knots but my back really hurt the next day and still hurts today. I had the massage Wednesday and today is the following Sunday. There was also so weird chopping of my feet and tossing my legs around, for lack of a better word. Just kind of weird.I went because it’s close to my house, had openings that day, and has decent Google reviews but I should have paid more attention to the 1 and 2 star reviews. Some people seem to have had wonderful experiences but mine was not. Probably a D if I was grading it.1/11/22: Downgrading from two stars to one. My upper back still really hurts, 2 1/2 weeks later. The fact that they told me the FAQ on the website would clear up any misunderstandings is ludicrous. They called me after my poor review, but what are they going to do to make my back stop hurting? Biggest waste of $100 ever.

Cieraa Tabe: Total experience was a C at best. I went here with my mom and I didn’t feel relaxed walking in. Had a little weird smell and location was really bland and outdated. It didn’t give us a clean vibe. The guy that did my massage was a little rough (I kept telling him to lighten up) and I wouldn’t consider what I got a “full massage”. My mom said she didn’t feel like the lady who did hers did anything. This wasn’t my first massage experience and I won’t be back here because there are way better places in KC than this.
