Jen Talbot: Weirdest massage experience of my life. I am really struggling to find words to adequately explain this. My girlfriend and I thought Sunday massages after brunch would be a nice way to spend our day in Kansas City. We were wrong. Brunch was great, but this experience was lacking. It seemed like a grandfather and his grandson were our masseuses. The grandfather spent almost the entire time lightly rubbing my girlfriend’s rear. The grandson looked homeless and was so awkward. Apparently, they had run out of normal massage oil so we had to be rubbed down with CBD. The massage room was very run down and looked dirty. Paint peeling on the walls, window covers cracked and falling off. $280 for what? Never again.
Frank Conway: I had a horrible experience with Spa on Penn. I was calling from overseas and wanted to book a massage for a friend. The connection was poor which caused both the rep and myself to be frustrated by the need to repeat things multiple times.However, the spa rep internalized the frustration, personalized it, became testy then began telling me I needed to be patient with her and I needed to lose my attitude. She then abruptly hung up on me. Isn’t it funny how those who stridently tell others they have an attitude are, in fact, most often the ones with the attitude? At that point in the conversation, I had repeated my billing zip code for the fifth time and the town name for the sixth time. I can't imagine being more patient than that. The rep didn't even comprehend my usage of the internationally recognized phonetic alphabetFortunately, the other spa in teon was quite accommodating, patient and understanding. They were happy to take business from Spa on Penn.
Bonnie: I just received a mani pedi here. I absolutely enjoyed my visit. I was in no way rushed. Ja'Niya was my nail tech. She did a great job and kept our conversation going the entire time I was with her. I fully intend to return for my next mani pedi and hope to try out some of their other services. Parking can be a little challenging particularly if parallel parking is not an option for you.
Mandy Brown: I sent my husband to have spa day for his birthday; he's never had one and I kept the services he was getting a surprise. I've always had immersive spa experiences, where I just walk in and am guided through it, I was hoping he would have the same relaxing experience. I set him up with the dead sea hydrobath and a massage.He arrived early and was greeted by someone who told him that he was scheduled for a hydrobath and massage, but no other information. The person gave him a robe and showed him where to change and then disappeared. He had to actively search to find where the hydrobath was, and when he found it, it wasn't full. He was able to track down someone who was cleaning a nearby room and that person filled the tub for him. There was no instruction for how long he was to stay in there, so he got out after 10 minutes, as he didn't want to miss his other service (the hydrobath was supposed to be for 30 minutes). He went back to the waiting area and waited for his next service without anyone checking on him.Finally, the masseuse, John, came out to get him. The massage started by John turning OFF the spa music. After a bit, my husband asked to turn it back on because the silence and sound of John's breathing was weird and not relaxing to him. When asked if the volume was ok, my husband replied yes, and John then turned the music UP(!?). So weird. The final straw was when John used a towel that was ON THE FLOOR to wipe my husband's head. I just can't understate how gross that is.I called and spoke with the back office manager about the issues after my husband told me about his experience. They told me that the owner would be in touch the next day. That was 5 days ago and I haven't heard a thing. I wasn't going to write a review until I spoke with them, but there has been no response.I would recommend finding another spa if you're looking to have a good experience.
Janell Twiford: All the staff was so nice and helpful! The atmosphere was relaxing and warming. I loved it here! There's even a steam and rain shower and sauna downstairs! I will most definitely be coming back for a spa day
Hanh Phung Meyer: They have a steam room with cold and hot shower heads that could be rented out for a 30 minutes. The steam room can fit 2 people. That was a nice addition on top of the massages.
Amy Goldstein: I purchased 3 laser hair removal packages from Spa on Penn. I was about halfway through with my services and seeing good progress, but now the laser has been broken for over a month and I'm past the recommended timeline. I am really worried this is going to negatively impact my results and waste hundreds of dollars :(. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.
Autumn Miller: Staff seem confused about what they are doing. Forgotten services, no water offered, incorrect bathrobe sizes, mediocre massage, raggedy, stained towels. I spoke with the manager about the issues we experienced and he apologized and removed some charges, which was appreciated. We booked $500 worth of services, it just wasn't the quality one would expect for that cost.

Kelly Critchfield: This place use to be amazing and I’m sad to say I won’t be coming back. It’s chaotic and it seems like most of the employees started yesterday. There is no place to get ready after your services. I had to get dressed and apply my make-up and fix my hair in a dark room with no sinks or lighting. You don’t even get a locker with key any more. After I was given my clip board to fill out a staff member ushered me down stairs to the spa waiting room. She did not show me where I was supposed to change or any directions-I had been there before so I knew I was suppose to fill out my info upstairs-then be shown the locker room-then shown to the spa waiting room. They forgot about me. I filled out the clip board then showed myself to the locker room then had to wave down the next employee I saw to take my clip board and Remind them I’m here for the VIP package and should have been in the steam sauna 20 minutes ago. The VIP package comes with champagne-I got 2 glasses and had to flag someone down for that too. Just really sad how bad this place has declined.

Mary Murphy: I came here and saw Jeff for THEE BEST deep tissue massage! I have had many massages, both in this city, and other states and countries but I have never had a massage as good as this one! I was so tense at the beginning and by the end I felt like butter in his hands. Perfect amount of pressure and his movements are so so relaxing and therapeutic. Will definitely come back to see him again!

Kate: Very expensive nail treatment. My nails did not look any better than a place that charges half the price. I will say that it looked like instruments were clean, , but room was not very clean.
Rachel Weimer: The staff was very friendly. I scheduled my appointment in advance and filled out the paperwork upon arrival. Only waited about 5 minutes. I had a mini facial done and the experience was very relaxing and rejuvenating. I had no idea what to expect. The only thing that could have made it better foe me personally was to know what she was using each time she applied and wiped off a product, (or to have been given a list of what she used or something) AND what to xpect after. I got out to my car and was surprised to see my face so blotchy red. A quick Google search proved it to be normal and nothing to worry about and it went away within 1 or 2 hours. Overall, great experience. Will be back again!

Lisa Whitworth: Fantastic service, beautiful place! I had my second facial with Lala yesterday afternoon and decided to add a body scrub as well. Both services were excellent. First, Lala is superb at her job. She is knowledgeable and professional, and she does it such a way that it puts you at ease. I did not feel overwhelmed by the skin care routine she recommended for me. She took the time to explain it and write it down. For the first time ever, I followed the suggest routine and have noticed a vast improvement in my skin. I am beyond thrilled. I have already booked my next several monthly facial appointments, which I am really looking forward to, as they are both relaxing and rewarding. The Spa at Briarcliff is a lovely, serene place and I have enjoyed going there over the years. I am now an even bigger fan of this spa, because of the excellent service I have received from Lala. Marissa Juliana: I've been to Sonrisa a few times and have typically had an okay experience. I got my hair done there about a month ago and have debated posting this review but it still makes me angry. I asked for a trim and a all over color. The stylist did fine with my layers. I asked for curtain bangs and I am not sure what she did but they were not cut correctly. They are thick, all the same length, and do not fade or layer into my face. I had to ask her to blend it to the rest of my hair so it didn't look chopped. The absolute worst part was the dye job. I have been dying my hair darkest brown for 15 years. I told her not to dye it black. My hair came out STARK BLACK. Soooooooo black. I have never had this happen in a salon before. The stylist had the nerve to say it wasn't black. I went home to shower and washed out what I could, my towel was covered in blue/purple dye after drying it. I had to do 3 baking soda/shampoo scrubs over the course of the last month to get the color I was hoping for. Unfortunately, I will not return to the salon.

Poor time management, they double booked me with another client which happens but after 2 1/2 hours- I walked out with dull damp hair, she had the nerve to ask if I dry my own hair because of how long it took her and she didn’t even touch my hair with scissors, said she might have time if I waited for her to finish her other client. Went home and showered so I could actually shampoo my own hair (she barely ran her fingers through it) and to get the awful chemical smell out. And yes to blow dry my own hair!

Lauren McClung: I visited Sunlighten Day Spa for my birthday and did the Sunlighten glow package, 60 min massage, 60 min facial, 30 min sauna.Massage- Christina was THE BEST. Request her if you can! She was very kind and asked questions to get a sense of what I wanted. She was incredible and gave a great massage! I would return for a massage with Christina.Facial- Kim was AWFUL. If I had only had a facial today I would have given it a one star. She did NOT care at all, and honestly I don't think she made a tailored facial for my skincare needs, I think she just did a bunch of stuff and called it a day. She did not explain anything that she did. That is a big RED FLAG when it comes to a facial. She did not tell me what product she used and why. When getting a facial it is so important to explain what you are doing for skincare awareness but also overall what chemicals and stuff are being put on your face. She even did this scratchy scrub (I assume exfoliating) but did not mention it may tingle or anything. Just huge red flags with skincare. I came out with my face bright red which tells me she irritated it a little too much. Something to note with this facial is that they do not massage your shoulders/neck at all, which is fine, but usually typical with a facial. She had a few moments of 'hands off' time where I was wondering if she was just on her phone or something. Beware of facials here!!Sauna- sauna was fine, but they ran 10 minutes behind schedule so I didn't get the full time (I had to be done by a certain time).Environment- it says there is a 'quiet space' but the staff were loud in the next room which is kind of irritating, and you can hear them through the treatment rooms. I was also told I would get complimentary champagne for my birthday but did not receive it. Price was fair (except for the awful facial). Snack that was included in the package was good!Overall, the massage was the best part of the spa day!

Parking can sometimes be tough if they are busy and other business are busy in the area. Being a first timer at the spa I was unaware about the waiting area once they walk you back. A little weird waiting area with all clients sitting in robes waiting for the appointments. In my opinion would want something more intentional if I am there for a couple massage waiting. Overall 5 out of 5 service, experience, and staff

I have had many many deep tissue massages before but this one was by far the most relaxing and rejuvenating massage experience I’ve ever had. I NEVER leave reviews but I had to after Lisa worked her magic on me. The staff was so kind and helpful and I walked out of there feeling OTHERWORLDLY ✨I am so looking forward to going back for a facial soon!
Elli Jones: Worst spa experience I’ve ever had mostly due to the not relaxing atmosphere. I had a massage and a facial. Both services were nothing special. Definitely wasn’t worth the price I paid. I have had Groupon massages and facials that were much better. But my main complaint was the poor decor. This place does not feel or look like a relaxing spa. The only word I can think of to describe this spa is that it’s very “corporate” looking. The bathroom/changing area look almost like a public bathroom you would go to that isn’t a spa. I guess my expectations for a spa were much higher than what this place offered. Overall, this place was not aesthetically pleasing. I was hoping for an amazing spa day experience but this was not anywhere close. I’m shocked that their reviews have high ratings.

They actually discussed in front of me on who was going to “handle” me. Also had a young child at the front desk who was also wandering around the spa on her tablet. She was a good kid, but not a very professional/relaxing environment. Probably should have had her in the office.#3- Lackluster massage and she had a very weird draping method I’ve never seen any other massage therapist use. She was also late because she got her dates mixed up and was very flustered. She then spent an hour “petting” me after asking me what firmness I wanted. I asked for medium to deep pressure. My neck tightness is still there.#4- Detox body wrap was nice as was the esthetician. I do recommend.#5- Snack was decent but she only gave me 10 mins to eat it- and actually said that. Felt like I had to wolf it down or waste it.#6- Sauna was nice. I needed a little bit more explanation on what you do having never used a private infrared sauna but it was clean and felt good.#7- I was made to say the tip amount out loud in front of staff and another guest and was not able to even see the total until after she ran my card. I always tip well because I received a service and the tip goes to the person, but the spa needs to change the checkout process asap. Cringe!All in all it was a subpar experience and I will not be back. (Check out Spa on Penn; it was 1000x better).

I thought maybe he was working out some knots but my back really hurt the next day and still hurts today. I had the massage Wednesday and today is the following Sunday. There was also so weird chopping of my feet and tossing my legs around, for lack of a better word. Just kind of weird.I went because it’s close to my house, had openings that day, and has decent Google reviews but I should have paid more attention to the 1 and 2 star reviews. Some people seem to have had wonderful experiences but mine was not. Probably a D if I was grading it.1/11/22: Downgrading from two stars to one. My upper back still really hurts, 2 1/2 weeks later. The fact that they told me the FAQ on the website would clear up any misunderstandings is ludicrous. They called me after my poor review, but what are they going to do to make my back stop hurting? Biggest waste of $100 ever.

Joe and Billy have mastered the art of making this a fantastic therapeutic/relaxing/inviting environment. There are multiple thoughtful inclusive details that put this place on another level when it comes to a massage/spa experience. Joe has always been my massage therapist - I can't say enough about him - he is fantastic and gifted when it comes to politeness, professionalism and technique. I have a shoulder issue and was a bit nervous that it would hurt to do some of the stretching and passive range of motion however I really had no discomfort - he is very intuitive and really pays attention to how his customer's body reacts.Today was a treat to myself after a stressful work assignment as a traveling health care provider. It was exactly what I needed - I had every intention of booking a 3+ hour massage with Joe if he was available and had I scheduled the appt sooner than a few days before - next time I'll be more prepared! I went here for my first massage and I was a bit nervous, but the staff was so welcoming and provided refreshments and answered all of my questions with kindness and understanding. The atmosphere was amazing. It’s quiet with calming sounds, and very clean. Everyone was considerate and professional. I called asking to book the relaxation massage and mistakenly said "therapeutic" and then said relaxation and he hurried up and spoke over me to say "therapeutic is not relaxation, those are different." I then said, I am not wanting the therapeutic, i would like the relaxation. Joe then says, well they are different. what date and how many people. I said May 1st and just for one person. he then goes back to say therapeutic is not relaxation. I asked for the 105 minute massage (SINCE THE WEBSITE SAYS 105 MINUTES) and he says "it is not 105 minutes, it is 90 minutes." - I said, I know it is 90 minute massage, but I was reading the website. He then says "i am sorry ma'am but we cannot service you anymore and HANGS UP ON ME. I was not once rude or anything. I did ask "will you let me talk?" because he did not allow me to talk. I called back (maybe 5-6 times before I got an answer and left a message). He then calls me back to say "you were rude"...... I was not rude!!! I MAY HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED, BUT NEVER ONCE DID I COME ACROSS RUDE! He tried to put the blame on me, but no sir.At this point, I was frustrated because he was talking fast, talking over me, and did not allow me to fully say what I was originally calling for... I have been getting massages at this place for over a year and no one has ever been rude to me. Since I am no longer welcome, then this review will show how I was treated today by one of your owners. Poor Customer Service displayed today, BY YOUR OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chloe Simoneau: When I say this is the best spa experience I have ever had, I absolutely mean it. I am plus size and a lot of spas cause more stress than they provide relaxation. It's Is humiliating to go get a massage and have to sit in a chair for the whole thing because the table it too small and the robes are ALWAYS a no go. Spalation provides dignity AND relaxation, the table are actually able to hold me and they have robes that go up to a 6 xl! For my birthday in February was just trying to find an place to get a same day appointment, but I accidentally found a hidden gem. We came back today for my mom's birthday. The experience was even better today which I honestly didn't think was possible. Thank you to the staff for providing me with dignity and for being the best spa in the Kansas City area!

I had Joe and he was incredible. His pressure was perfect and he made sure I was comfortable. I thought I would have to pee the whole time but Joe never put any pressure on my low back so I was able to enjoy the full hour! I have also never been able to personalize/customize a massage much before but here, they let you pick your lotion, oil scent, music, and after massage treat! Everyone was so professional and kind. It was such a great experience and I will be back for sure!

Front desk greeter was so nice and Joe, the massage therapist was absolutely amazing! The little touches of cold water when you walk in and a sweet snack and drink afterwards were so great and made the experience even more worth it. I will DEFINITELY be back here more often and I highly recommend!
Jessica Young: I had a really great experience here. The first time I went I had a massage therapist that did not meet my needs but the rest of the experience was so great I knew I would try again. I reached out to the owners just to share my experience and they made it right immediately which I was not expecting. It usually takes 2 weeks to get in but they fit me in next day and when I left I felt better than I had in a long time. The overall atmosphere is relaxing and catered to what each particular client needs; from the type of massage and scents to the snack provided after. The staff is so friendly and at the end of my massage I was able to pick a candy cane off of their Christmas tree that had a small paper attached which revealed what my Christmas gift from them was! Spalation sets themselves apart from other places by all of the small additions they provide making it such a special experience. I will definitely be a returning customer.

It was my first time coming to this spa, and the first time trying the CBD lotion. I felt so relaxed when I left. Julie was terrific, she was friendly and focused on the areas I requested. She also made sure to ask if the pressure was adequate enough. I will definitely be coming back. The spa is also very clean, and staff is cautious when it comes to wearing a mask and having gloves on. Julie gave me the option of having her keep the gloves on or off. She did keep her mask on during the entire massage. Overall it was a great experience, when I checked out I also scheduled a massage for my husband. Highly recommend.

Jennifer Hoyer: The facility was really nice and clean and I enjoyed the sauna and steam room, and all the kind workers but SAM! What a great massage! Sam has such a special talent, a very kind heart and a true desire for helping people. He worked on areas I didn't realize were problematic, but the massage was made even more meaningful by Sam's true investment and care for the wellness of his clients. He has a lot of knowledge in many different areas, seems to enjoy problem solving and offered me some great ideas of things to try to improve my health. He really makes an effort to listen and engage and do all he can for you, I've had plenty of massages but none like that. It warmed my heart that someone unknown to me until that appointment would have so much compassion and concern for me. He is a very special human being. Sam is a great masseuse and very knowledgeable about health and wellness in holistic aspects. Jordan the hairdresser cut my hair yesterday and I absolutely love the way it looks. Jay at the front desk is so kind and helpful. Rammie the life coach has a passion to help others. Heath the owner wants to share his gifts/knowledge with the community to create health and wealth in many ways. My facials there are amazing! I’m also very impressed by their skin and hair care line. You get a discount on all products & services outside your membership. One last thing, their yoga & Pilates classes are also included in my membership and the instructors are passionate and knowledgeable. 10/10 this place is worth every penny! My monthly membership is 111$. It comes with a choice of a facial or massage, a hair care service, full access to sauna and steam rooms, VR room, gym, and life coaching per month. Such an affordable way to stay healthy.

It was very cute and bohemian.They appointed me Sam and he was fantastic.
