Interactive Technologies: It’s a great place to get good training done, allowing you to be in touch with your body and know what you are capable of. I called yesterday to get information regarding class schedules and spoke to Jose and Stephanie; they were both so friendly and informative. When we arrived today we were greeted by the sweetest human (I didn't get her name), but EVERYONE went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable! Phillip Shields: I’ve been a member for little over a month. I’ve got nothing but positive things to say about this gym. There’s only a few boxing gyms like this still left as the whole gets more like planet fitness. If you come to this gym and work you will get results period. The instructors are very helpful and are willing to help all experience levels. It’s a smaller gym so you get plenty of one on one time. Most gyms you pay extra for that. I truly feel like a member of a community and not a commodity for the gym to collect money from. Most gyms hope you never show up. First class is free, so if anybody is remotely interested you should at least take the trial! I promise it’s not like anything else in KC.

Kirsten Jackson: I had a great experience at 9Round! The trainer had the perfect balance of pushing and encouraging me throughout the class. The 30-minute duration was ideal for this type of workout, and the flexibility to attend whenever I wanted was a major plus. Overall, 9Round exceeded my expectations and provided an outstanding fitness experience.
Simphony Romero: I was skeptical before trying 9Round because it's been a while since I've been in the gym. However, when I showed up for my session Rashad was extremely welcoming and encouraging throughout the rounds -- he even completed some of the exercises alongside me! I tend to get bored of doing the same exercises so having something different to do (and working different parts of my body) at each station was perfect for me. And if you're worried it will be too intense, don't be. You have the freedom to go at your own pace and the exercises are not too strenuous. I really loved the atmosphere and the music kept me pumped. If you're looking for a different workout experience, 9Round is the way to go. If you're ready to put in the work, it's definitely worth it. Highly recommend.

Rowen Newgent: I have been attending classes for five years twice a week. Gary is my trainer and the classes have been very beneficial. They really keep me moving.
sue hodes: I always look forward to attending my exercise program for Parkinson’s Disease, come rain or shine! I have been training with Gary Withall at JQ’s BFit2 /Parkinson’s Training Center for over 6 years since my diagnosis in 2015. I wanted a trainer who could develop a program for my special needs at an affordable price--not just an exercise class, and I found that in Gary.He focuses on whole body strengthening and movement techniques such as “power up” to facilitate getting up safely from the floor, or “sit to stand” to help the move from a sitting position to standing. Equally important are posture, balance and range of motion, all included in our training.He is honest, compassionate and fun to work with, with loads of encouragement and support, and with room left over for positive feedback on ways to improve. Gary and his staff are there to help us live well with Parkinson’s Disease,Oh, and we have lots of fun too! Stop by and check us out!
Tamara Toner: Daughter was recovering from SEVERE Traumatic Brain Injury. We lived at several inpatient rehabilitation institutions the first 12 months. Many many therapists and alternative treatments the next few years. Knew she could make more progress if we found the right help. I found Gary Withall FOUR YEARS after her injury. She used walker for short distance. Wheelchair for longer distance. He agreed to work with her twice a week and EVERYTHING has improved tremendously - vision, balance, movement, strength, even voice is stronger! She slowly started feeling confident to walk short distances independently. Walker is no longer used at all. Confidence and ability’s are constantly improving. She’s proof that there’s no time frame for progress with TBI. Don’t believe the one year two year to make the most progress. She’s made more progress in the last 18 months, than the first 18 months. Find the right people that understand neurological disorders and the connection to the body. There’s no way to explain in words the difference Gary has made to her quality of life and general happiness. When you see progress- you see hope.She recently started working one on one with JQ to fine tune muscle activation and strengthen the areas where she didn’t have feeling. JQ pinpointed the weak areas and got them firing up. Huge win - again finding the right person with the right experience that’s willing to not give up on progress has completely changed her recovery.
Marilyn Fitzgerl: Attending sessions at the Parkinson's Training Center has truly changed my life. I began one-on-one sessions with Gary right after my diagnosis and have since changed to one session a week with Gary and then attend the Saturday boot camp class. Gary has great knowledge of Parkinson's and his expertise in determining what work outs will be most beneficial for me have made such a difference in my mobility and my confidence. When I began my sessions, the Parkinson's had affected my left arm and leg quite a bit. I couldn't style my hair or even scratch me head with that arm/hand and I walked awkwardly. Those symptoms are gone now. I continue to lead an active life and grateful for all the support and encouragement I receive from all the staff at the Parkinson's Training Center.
Patty Sullivan: I totally denied my PD diagnosis. My husband did not. He searched for a training center that would help me physically and lift my spirits. He found both at Rock Steady Boxing of Johnson County and The Parkinsons Training Center. Gary Withall and JQ are welcoming professional trainers. Their knowledge and expertise are phenomenal and they are encouraging. They push past any negative thoughts. I’ve been at the gym for about five months. I go twice a week and I’m demonstrably stronger, more balanced and less awkward. I look forward to my sessions and can add time whenever I want or need to do so. Don’t fall behind, get going now. You won’t regret it. They are the most important piece of treating my PD.
Stuart Munro: Gary WIthall and Lori Donnelly are excellent trainors. They always bring a new set of exercises to our sessions that are designed to strengthen our Parkinsonian deficits. And they always bring an excellent attitude...they may push us to our limits, but never beyond our limits...and they have taken the time to get to know our indiviidual ability levels. The group support is also phenomenal...a group that always cares about the well-being of the members.
Luke Patterson: I hadn't worked out in over a decade when I started up at JQ's a few months ago. Now, I can't imagine not having this place as part of my life and routine. My wife and I have been going to the classes together and she loves it too.Different programs and options are available, but this is how it is for me:I show up 3-5 times a week, in the morning before work. We typically do a variety of cardio to start off - huffing, puffing while grooving to great music that keeps my mind off what my body normally wouldn't entertain doing. Next, as we are cooling down and bringing our heart rates back to earth the instructor is demonstrating what the main exercises of the day will be. We hop off the cardio equipment and get to it - everything and anything, depending on the varied outline of the week, from low-rep strength training to high-intensity core and high-rep endurance. So, there's a lot of hard work, but if you're like me it's doable because most of the thinking has been taken care of. That is, it's all been carefully planned out by the experts with my overall fitness outcome in mind - as I continue to show up and follow the day's plan, I see great results. At the end of the hour session, we stretch and then I head back home before going in to work.They have a clean, well-maintained facility with great equipment, an expertly-crafted and evolving curriculum, and they're in a great location. But that's not what makes this place truly special. The instructors are what makes this place worth your time, effort and bodily struggles. JQ, Blake and Dave are master teachers who know how to get the best from their students. They offer the expertise, guidance, patience and healthy motivation to help me make it through what I need to do and keep coming back.Give it a try. The prices are fair and there aren't any shenanigans in the contract that you normally find in other gyms. You can thank me later.

Laura Robles: I took a training class from Coach Bryan last year for my armed guard card requirements and fell in love with the gym and learned more self-defense techniques in two classes than I’ve ever learned from anyone. Around the same time I completed my class, my oldest son was trying to teach himself the basics of Muay Thai. When he turned 18 last year I reached out to sign him up for formal training at Low Kick and finally had the opportunity to take him to his first class. As I suspected, he fell in love with the gym, the other students and the coaches. When he got back into the car after class (dripping sweat and stinky) he was grinning ear to ear and he screamed: I LOVE IT. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.”I am so excited to see him get started on his training journey (and hopefully competition, someday) and am grateful to everyone at the gym. Thank you, to all the coaches and to Coach Bryan, for the warm welcome and the honest feedback he received about what he’s taught himself so far. I was worried being watched and receiving feedback would change how he felt about the sport and it has been the complete opposite: he’s even more committed to learning/training and being an excellent addition to the team.

It's more than hitting bags, you're working with real people at every class. The environment is exactly the way that I pictured a real boxing gym to be - gritty and without pretenses. Every single one of the people I've met here, guys and gals are all stand up people. If you want to get in fighting shape, get real boxing instruction with real people and at incredibly reasonable price, you should give Sweet z's a try. They have all the gear and you can just show up in any workout clothes. It’s not required but you may want to bring your own hand wraps.

Michael Merdinger: Sweet Z's Gym is amazing. I had the pleasure of training there this past summer when I was visiting in Kansas City, and it was the highlight of the summer. The workouts are challenging at all levels, and you get great instruction in boxing. The owner, Zach, is friendly and laid back, but at the same time a top-notch teacher, and takes a personal interest in each person's boxing development. He also has a solid background in other martial arts which I found helpful in learning how to blend boxing technique with other martial arts (boxing is not readily available where I live). The people who train at the gym were all very helpful and friendly, and hard workers, pushing themselves and inspiring me--without feeling pressured about it--to train harder and do my best.Zach also offers self defense classes for kids. Our family schedule only allowed my son to go to one session, but he loved it.In sum, Sweet Z's is a great place to work out, learn boxing, and have fun.

Eric Bowers: I started going to Sweet Z's Boxing Gym back in 2012 to get more fit and also hone my self defense and fighting skills. Zach, the owner and coach is very skilled at working with a wide range of people, which makes this gym a great environment to train in. All the regulars are good people, and the gym has a laid back and helpful atmosphere. It’s a great place to train for both experienced fighters as well as new people looking to get fit. The anaerobic cardio nature of boxing is one of the greatest, most effective ways to change one’s body for the better. The gym will not pressure you to do anything prematurely like sparring if you’re not comfortable yet, but it’s a positive environment that will encourage you to continue improving so that you will become more at ease with advanced things such as sparring and other kinds of fighting methods. Both the sporting and social element of the gym gives a trainee much higher odds of long term fitness success and improvement than a typical commercial gym full of boredom-inducing treadmills and ellipticals. The training challenges you physically and mentally - but at the end of a session, you’re always happy that you came.I came to appreciate this boxing gym so much, that when I moved out of my prior home, a major reason I relocated to my current address was because it is so close to Zach's gym. That way I have much less of an excuse to not get out and go boxing whenever I can. It works wonders for both the body and the soul.
James Comninellis: I boxed with Z's for two years and loved it. I went on to other amateur boxing gyms in Kansas City and St. Louis area, but Z's by far is the best for a hobbist boxer or someone just wanting learn the art in a non-intimidating environment. The coach and members are always friendly, patient and helpful.
Britney Appier: I first went to Sweet Z's with a friend who had heard of the gym. I am an obviously uncoordinated mess of a non-athlete, but everyone at the gym was incredibly accepting and willing to work with me at my pace. Though I was not able to sit up unassisted or sit down without cringing for over a week after my first session, I went back and became a regular for over two years. I moved to LA at the beginning of this year, and Sweet Z's is honestly one of the things I miss most about home. I highly recommend Sweet Z's, the people are amazing, the workout kicks your ass, and it is a lot of fun.

Neil Morrissette: When I first moved to Kansas City I hardly knew anyone and had never been very serious about exercise, but I had heard about this thing called jiu jitsu and figured I'd look for a place close to my apartment to try it out. Fast forward my 2.5 years in KC and Bodyfit taught me so much about determination, working through frustration, and continuing on when all you want to do is quit. Whether you are a world champion blackbelt or have never worn a gi, every member and instructor is respectful, patient, and motivating. If martial arts aren't your thing, all of that can also be found in their other classes. Now that I have since left KC, Bodyfit is one of the things I miss most about it. Looking for a new gym and only finding large corporate options makes me realize what a gem Bodyfit is. Even in the 2.5 years I was a member they made significant improvements to the facilities and programming, and have done even more since I moved away. I don't think I have ever written a review for any business but David and all the rest deserve every ounce of praise. Their Twitter bio says it best, "just a bunch of friends who like to work out together."
