Lindsay “Sweet Clucker” T: This bbq place in Kansas City was recommended to us by multiple people, it exceeded my expectations! It was just what I wanted. The brisket and the ribs were my favorite! The ribs were the best I have ever had. The beans were a little sweet for my liking but everything else was great. We sat at the bar and the service was really good and attentive. I recommend getting there before 11:30 it got very busy after that. The restaurant is beautiful, different vibe than the Austin bbq spots.

Elena McNickle: I have never been a big BBQ fan.This place is hands-down the best barbecue I have ever had and I would have it any day. It doesn’t matter what kind of mood I am in, Q39 always makes my mouth water. It is the only place I have been where the brisket has a perfect smoke line, will literally fall apart with your fingers, and has no fat on it. The burnt ends are to die for. And I highly recommend the best wings on the planet for your appetizer, they are called that for a reason.If you are coming on a Friday or Saturday night, or there is a game of some sorts, call ahead to reserve seating or you will have a long wait. The wait is totally worth it, but still.Unfortunately I am moving out of the area soon and I will say this place is probably what I will miss most about KC, and if I ever come back to visit, I will eat here in a heartbeat.Parking: Parking is very hard to come by on a busy night, usually you have to park across the street or somewhere you are not supposed to.

While I don't want to sound overly harsh, I would describe my experience in this way: I work at a college and eat in the cafeteria every day. They occasionally serve pretty decent pulled pork and, less frequently, brisket. I feel almost guilty saying this, but I would choose the bbq served at my college over the bbq served at Slap's in a heartbeat.

I didn't care for the brisket AT ALL. Slaps is also pretty stingy on the brisket. I got all of three slices.The burnt ends were ok, but nothing special. They were undercooked (they call them "burnt ends" for a reason) and needed the spicy sauce to make them better. At least there was more smoke flavor in those.The regular sauce is extremely sweet. Sickly sweet. I'm glad I tried it before pouring it on my meat. I can't believe this is what is normally served. Awful.Every time I get barbecue, I order beans as a side. This was the FIRST time I couldn't finish the beans. Just like the sauce, they were sickly sweet. I was able to manage eating half of them just because I hate wasting food, but really, I was done after two bites.The gal behind the counter taking orders skipped my wife and I and took the order of the person behind us. We let her know she skipped us, but that just confused the rest of the crew behind the counter and when we tried to explain what was going on, they acted like we were bothering them and didn't want to listen. Amazingly we did get what we ordered, as did the couple behind us, but not without much confusion on their part.Perhaps I expected too much but between the nasty sweet sauce and beans, and the lack of smoke flavor I won't be returning. My wife was left equally unimpressed.

Doris Reed: We did take out via phone, because the items we wanted weren't available online. After totalling my order he asked how much was I tipping. I was taken back by this and I did tip. The only reason I did was because you never know what they would do to your food. I hate the tipping culture now days.Now as far as the food. The ribs were okay., but the rest of the meat was bland hospital food. The meats were paper thin slices (even the sausage). The large mac and cheese sides were half the size of Popeye's. The kids loved them. The taste was good the size embarrassing.The burnt ends were hard and dry.Everyone's response was "that was a waste of money". We won't eat here again definitely not worth the money.

James Blitz: Smoked meat should not have sauce on it. If you have to cover the taste of the meat, is it worth eating. The sauce was not great. Some people can't eat that much sugar, so that made it another problem. The service was good and felt well taken care of.Tell them no sauce, I wish we would have known that!

Daniel M: This was a good place for lunch. We received service quickly and with some playful banter. We got the ribs and burnt ends dinners. The bread, fries, and coleslaw were normal and typical for a KC bbq joint. The beans, however, were unexpectedly special... I think they had lots of green peppers to give it a nice flavor. I really enjoyed those. The ribs and burnt ends were good and bountiful. I would not say they are the best I've had in KC, but they are good for KC bbq. 👍The portions, good flavors, and friendly staff make this an easy recommendation from me. Go have a plate! Don't forget to ask to try the spicy sauce!

Metal: I sent my wife in to get a sampler platter which at most places has different meats, like a couple of ribs, a couple different other meats that you can try, maybe some burn and stuff like that. She even told the lady that we wanted something like that because we never tried this place. She was a very nice lady but there's no way in hell I would have ordered one sandwich for five people for 19 dollars. I don't know maybe she gave us the wrong order.
