Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery: what do users think?
Chelsey Jackson: 17 month old has a broken bone diagnosed at urgent care, was told Ortho would call us for a follow up. I received one call and it was a recording with a phone number to call and schedule an appointment, I called and it was another recording saying to leave my phone number and they would get back to me in THREE DAYS. Today, I got a call while at work and couldn't answer, and now I have had to leave my phone number again and will probably have to wait 3 more days. Ridiculous. I will be calling elsewhere so hopefully someone can care for my kid.
Kiersten McConnell: We have had Dr.Grote for our daughters medical care and surgery. He is a wonderful person. Compassionate, knowledgeable, and very understanding. I am very thankful for how well he has treated our family and our daughter.
Tiffany Berndt: Impossible to get appointments. When THEY finally call to schedule you they place you on hold for over one hour. When you do get an appt and check out to make follow-up they say they don’t have an order yet and will call. Over a week later and still don’t have a call or follow up appt. My child has a broken leg with time sensitive follow ups needed per the doctor, but we can’t even get someone to schedule us. I’m fed up with this place and recommend finding care elsewhere if you haven’t already started with them. Terrible customer service, ok care when you finally get it. There’s got to be a much better option somewhere in KC for orthopedic care. We have been to Children’s Mercy for several other things and never had an issue like we’ve been having the last 6 weeks with this broken bone. Love Children’s Mercy, but not their ortho dept- stay clear!!
Courtney Jackson: I am sure the staff are doing the best they can, but I cannot get an appointment with this clinic! My kiddo has a very time-sensitive issue and the ER doctor said she needs to be seen in their clinic quickly; however I can’t get through to anyone to get an appointment scheduled. I finally gave up and called KU. They answered the phone on the 2nd ring and got her scheduled with them immediately. I hope the CM leadership team reads this and takes steps to hire more staff and correct the scheduling processes, because this is ridiculous. I have always loved Children’s Mercy, but I am so frustrated with this experience.
Camilla Johnson: When you go in or call you never in the system.Same thing different day.
Danette Smit: Can I leave 0 stars? Sitting patiently (less and less) waiting for my daughters pre-op appointment in the ortho clinic. We have officially been waiting an hour and a half and have been told by a woman taking vitals that “hopefully they told you when they scheduled your appointment that you can wait up to 2 hours.”Completely unacceptable. If you’re scheduling appointments knowing you’ll be keeping people waiting for hours, you’re doing it wrong.Seriously frustrated by this because Children’s Mercy also handles my daughter’s cardiology care and I have never had a complaint.Children’s Mercy cardiology clinic? 5 stars.Children’s Mercy orthopedic clinic? Don’t waste your time, they’ll do it for you.EDIT: We were finally seen (after 1:00 when our appointment was scheduled for 10:45):As we sat waiting and the hours passed we called the front desk to ask how much longer it might be. Twice. Both times we were assured the provider was “on his way to our room”. Still, we saw no one. After 12:45 we had had enough and got up to leave. As we exited our treatment room we found our provider chatting merrily with two other people in the hall. He asked us what we were doing and I said “it’s been two hours, we were going home.” To which he replied, “it’s a busy place.”You’re busy? Guess what folks, so am I! And yet, if I had shown up for my appointment two hours late I wouldn’t have been allowed to keep the appointment, and may even be charged a fee for not rescheduling two days prior. No amount of explaining all of those things that keep me so busy would have afforded me the leeway to walk into an appointment two hours late and expect to be serviced. When I schedule an appointment with a provider I am making a commitment to that provider to be there on time, and as ready as I can be. In turn, that provider is committing to me that at that time (10:45), his time and attention will be reserved for me. The ONLY reason we are not finding a new provider is that my daughter is in pain and we can’t afford to wait months for a new surgery date. Rest assured, her post surgical care will not happen here if we can help it.CMH Ortho clinic: The cable guys of pediatric care. They’ll see you sometime between 8:00 and 6:00.0 stars.
Janet Myers: Love children's they have always taken great care of my child .
Jen Anderson: Received an automated call from CMH only to be placed on hold. I waited for 53 minutes for a live person with no response so I gave up. THIS WAS JUST TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT! Why call people if there’s nobody available?!?!?! Terrible first experience with them.
Juliana Zolotor: Terrible!! You would think since this is children’s Mercy it would be amazing. It is next to impossible to get a hold of anybody in the orthopedic unit. They said they are behind because of Covid. I was actually able to take my daughter over to Overland Park regional and get her in the same day to be seen for a broken bone. I will absolutely never use children’s Mercy again. I don’t know if they are short staffed or what’s going on but there’s really no excuse for how difficult it is to get a hold of somebody in the orthopedic unit. I will never recommend anyone taking their child here.
Cass Hiley: Been trying and trying just to schedule an appointment for my 2 week baby! Takes a miracle from God himself I guess
Lisa M: I have been trying for just shy of a month to even get a appointment! I have been told numerous times someone will call me back, that the rep would send a “firm” email to call me that day... 3 days ago! The rep today promised to stay on the line w me until I was connected to a human... after 20 minutes they even gave up and sent me to the “enter number for next in line” without even saying sorry can’t do it! If they are unable to MAKE a appointment, makes me wonder if it is the right place to go anyway. Beyond frustrated....

Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Associates: what do users think?
Molly Jones: I called Pediatic Ortho and was seen and casted the same day. They were so kind, explained everything so well. I am very grateful and thankful for their clinic. We waited on Childrens Mercy for 3 days to even call us. They are just too overwhelmed. It was a week since our break, and it would have been 10 days before casting.Thank you, Pediatric Ortho!! ❤️
Natalie Kehr: This place has been amazing! We were able to get in the day we found out about the broken bone at urgent care. Had we not gotten in so soon my child probably would have had to have surgery. Nurse Foy was very honest and helped me know exactly what to expect. We will definitely come back if we ever have need!
Peter Lee: Dr Gupta has been a blessing to our family. He consistently goes above and beyond to help my child and my family. Couldn’t be happier!
Stefanie: Very fast, expert service. I went in during their “walk-in” clinic hours. My daughter had an X-Ray and her arm was casted in under an hour (not kidding). Also much cheaper than a hospital ER. Highly recommend!
Juli Braswell: Dr Gupta and his staff are very organized and prompt. It’s like a well-oiled machine and so much confidence when talking to Dr Gupta. He is AMAZING! He thinks outside the box, genuinely cares about his patients, and always takes extra time to listen, give input and make the BEST decisions for my girl! I am forever grateful that we found him! He is seriously the BEST! We drive 3.5 hours to see him.
Angela Gatz: We went to walk in hours for my daughter’s fractured wrist. In and out with a cast in appx 1 hr. In and out of the f/u visit with cast removed and X-ray done in 30 min. They are fast and efficient.
Lisa R: Dr. Gupta always listens to his patients and parents.
Seth Boyd: Dr. Gupta and his entire staff have been incredible with our son as he’s been treated for CP since 2020. We feel so fortunate to have this team at our family’s side.
Stephanie Braden: They are nice and professional!
Carson Wilson: Dr.Gupta was so kind, verry intelligent and treated my child with compassion. We have been through alot of orthopedic doctors and he by far is the best we have had!
Sarah Carmody: Excellent experience. We saw Dr. Gupta and his staff. Would recommend to anyone. They are kind and caring. Best of all they run on time!
Scott Halvorson: Highly recommended!
Stephanie Boydston: Dr. Foy was amazing. Very personable and funny. She really gave us top service. We even got to see her round house kick. The office staff was great. They answered all of our questions with ease. Definitely will recommend.
Hannah Salter: We really appreciate the staff here. The nurse who put on the cast and then took it off weeks later is so nice! Sher Foy, our NP, was great, helped to educate us and took great care of my daughter. Thanks POSA!
Carrie Robinson: Do I have to even give them 1 star?? Get a second opinion and read 1 star Google and Yelp reviews. Our experience was consistent with other 1 star reviews.Quick summary: our son was diagnosed by Dr. Gupta at POSA with a type 3 growth plate fracture, even though Dr. Gupta originally said the x-rays showed no break. Type 3 is a higher billing rate. Type 3 is also clear and obvious on x-rays. Red flags galore when Dr. Gupta told me "don't Google it because you won't see what I see."We showed the x-rays to several physician friends who all agreed, there was no obvious break. A second opinion at Children's Mercy determined there was no break, after their own exam, x-ray and MRI, got him on Motrin 24/7, and several days later, he was back to himself, running and playing.Dr. Gupta at POSA wanted to cast our kid and then possibly surgery -- and it wasn't even broken. WTH?! Read details below.---Our 6 year old was limping 10 days after injury. We took him to walk-ins here and saw Dr. Gupta. He examined his knee on the leg that was hurting. They took x-rays. Told me the x-rays showed nothing. Then did another "exam" and then decided that actually the exam was consistent with what he "saw" on the x-rays: a type 3 fracture of the growth plate. He then said "don't Google it because you won't see what I see." RED FLAG. He then told me "I would cast it." Would you or should you? I opted for a brace because I knew I wanted a second opinion. He said after a month in the cast, if it's not better, we would need surgery.I later Googled a type 3 Salter-Harris fracture and guess what? It is CLEAR AND OBVIOUS fracture on an X-ray. It also comes with a higher billing rate. Is this what's best for the patient or the bottom line?Further, he told me that our son has one leg longer than the other and we should have it tracked. Fear mongering!$1,100 later we walked out of the clinic with a $340 knee brace and a gut feeling that something wasn't right. We got in for a second opinion at Children's Mercy with their chief of sports medicine. After a much more thorough exam (doc looked at both knees and hips; x-rayed hip as well, watched him walk and run)... ordered an MRI to be sure no ligament damage because a kid shouldn't be limping and getting worse after injury. Also, the physician confirmed there was no leg length differential. The doc at Children's prescribed Motrin 24/7. We did this, results came back from Children's - no break, no fracture, no tear... Our son bounced back after a few days on Motrin and hasn't limped since.A friend who is an ER doc said that Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Associates is known for billing higher codes, over-casting and surgery when not necessary. Since speaking with other friends and neighbors, we have also learned of some questionable actions: casting an entire arm for a wrist fracture; a cast after a cast; and charging ridiculously high fees for a basic brace that would be 1/4 the price on Amazon. In summary, AVOID Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Associates. I did call and speak with their office manager about our experience. They refunded all of our fees, no questions asked, no apologies, no "we will be better"... BEWARE. Take your kids elsewhere.
Mikala Lodder: We had an excellent experience with Dr. Ganesh Gupta. Dr. Gupta was very knowledgeable and his approach to healthcare management was impressive. He took the time to provide us the education that we needed and did a great job making us feel heard. Thank you, Dr. Gupta!
Celio Family: They took amazing good care of my child and were quick, professional and thorough even though we were just there for a walk-in.
J: My appointment was at 10:30. I wasn’t seen until 11:20. I even committed that you were taking back walk ins before scheduled appointments. Then X-rays we’re taken and they were just done 10 days ago. That was the beginning of having an answer for everything I pushed back on. There was an X-ray taken of the opposite knee for comparison. That just tells me the X-ray tech isn’t able to read the films. My daughter also hurt her ankle. There was no swelling or bruising but yet you put her in a boot! When I got ready to check out even the lady that checked me out thought it was over the top and too expensive! She checked it twice! My daughter never saw a doctor. All I came for was a referral for an MRI and I walked out with a $475 bill!! I’ve already told so many of my friends/parents not to go to your office. I’m fact I’m calling my pediatrician’s office to stop the referrals. You guys are clearly all about the money. I’m very disappointed!! In fact I’m angry!
Damien Williams: STAY AWAY! Dr. Gupta doesn’t have any business being a doctor. This place will waste your time and take your money. The way they treated my kid was horrible and you would be better off finding someone off the street to help you.
Sarah Wainwright: We had a wonderful experience today! My daughter broke her elbow 2 days prior and had a poor experience at a different facility (urgent care center) where she wasn’t splinted properly. I called this morning and learned about the fracture walk-in clinic that afternoon. We waited 15 minutes, X-rays done, and casted in an hour. Our provider Taylor PA-C was excellent. Answered all my questions and explained treatment plan and activity restrictions. I had tried calling Children’s Mercy this morning as well—unable to see my daughter until next week. If you’re looking for a peds ortho, go here! Previous reviews mention how expensive it is—yes, it’s expensive. But it’s going to be expensive anywhere you go, especially the ER. A pediatric specialist is going to cost more than an urgent care visit. Highly recommend Taylor and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Associates.
Cheyenne Barnes: They don’t care about helping your kids, they care about money and how you’re going to pay. First thing they asked was about payment as I stood there with my kid with a broken arm.
