Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art: what do users think?
Ben Williams: I enjoy art of all kinds, and I found the Kemper to be interesting and helpfully minimalistic in its approach. While not a great museum for introducing high school students to contemporary art (the primary goal for my most recent visit) due to few educational guides and scaffolds, it is a well curated collection for those who are already engaged in the artistic conversation.
Whitney Jones: A really great art museum to visit in the heart of Kansas City. Great place to see small local artists work!

R Jones: What a wonderful star in Kansas City. Contemporary art at a level above what you would expect on a community college campus. My favorite is a Thomas Hart Benton sketch of a house and plow.. I’m amazed at the artistry and ability to show the horses strength in front of a plow. Thank you JCCC - what a gift. Free.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Price for adult entry Free …More

Jodi Braack: Clean, spacious museum with good parking options and huge campus. Museum classroom is a fun place to visit and create! Great studio maker space. Free to book tours of gallery!
I: the people who work there are exceptionally nice. also, very nice facility. some of the art is definitely not suitable for children, and I would say not suitable for adults, either.
T. F.: One word comes to mind..Opulent
Larry Stevenson: Always up to date with contemporary art love this place
Eric Mozingo: Great free contemporary art museum. If you enjoy art it's a good two floor art museum that you can walk through in an hour or so depending on how long you stop to look at the art.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Price for adult entry Free …More
Kate Hesse: Although small, this museum is a great place to visit to see a variety of contemporary art. With exhibits that change out, it's worth visiting periodically to see the new shows. The building itself is really interesting, and it's conveniently located on the JCCC campus.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No Price for adult entry Free …More
Matt D: Great art and nice people
G S: Absolutely one the best balances between stunning architecture, museum and contemporary art. You'll be remarkably surprised/impressed by this hidden jewel located at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS.The parking lot is approx 100 feet away with ample spaces. The museum cafe, auditorium and class room venues are outstanding. The wide range of superlative curation/display of contemporary art will exceed expectations and admission is free. From the bench seating of steel and leather harkens Mies van der Rohe/Bauhaus and Seagram building lobby, suddenly you feel transported to a polished New York museum atmosphere. Rated as one of the top 10 university/college campuses for public art in America, citing the sculptures, paintings, ceramics, photography and works on paper installed throughout the campus. The museum presents many of the region's most important exhibitions of leading-edge contemporary art, as well as dynamic and diverse educational programming. The building is clad in a veneer of Kansas limestone with hues similar to the Getty. The architecture is beautifully done by Kyu Sung Woo Architects Inc. (Cambridge, Massachusetts) who also designed the Arts of Korea Gallery at The Metropolitan Museum in New York City, and many other commissions in America and abroad. His philosophy, " A museum should be experiential – both in viewing art and experiencing the building itself ".Mr. Woo attended Harvard Graduate school of design...the same university Walter Gropius once directed at the graduate school of design.Thank you JCCC and board of trustees:Jerry CookGerald Lee Cross Jr.Nancy IngramAngeliina LawsonGreg MusilLaura Smith-EverettPaul SniderGenerous Benefactors: Jerry and Margaret NermanHighly endorse this work of art in a big city with a small town feel

I: a great place to take kids, but watch them very closely - the exhibits are so crammed together and it's such a small space that even adults not paying attention could easily back off a step and get seriously hurt. also, several of the exhibits are very worn. for as cheaply as they could be repaired and for as much money as is rolling through the place, I don't understand why they allow the exhibits to look so ratty. but, the Ames room, the leaning room, the vertigo tunnel and the head on a plate are worth the price of admission alone. a good time, but could be a lot better.
