Jackson County Assessment Department: what do users think?
Ellyn: Expect lonnnnngggg wait times. We got there at 11am and stood in line for about 30 min just to talk to the receptionist and get a place reserved in line. Got on the list with 42 people ahead of us. They put us on a text system that updated us every 30 min with our status in line.Do yourself a favor and get your place in line reserved early, then go run errands and make a day of it. We had about 4.5 hours of total wait time, but we went to Costco, got lunch, and walked around downtown to help pass time. When we got the text that there were only about 2 people ahead of us, we went back to the building and we’re helped. We had what we came for a little after 4pm.Maybe we got lucky, but we didn’t interact with any rude staff. Everyone I dealt with was pleasant and helpful.Just expect to have about a 4-5 hour wait. Go here on a day off. Run errands instead of just waiting there. Research the documents you need to bring to make things go smoothly. Get there earlier in the day since they fill up quick.
Karen Henry: Cant get in to pay property tax. Closed for today too many people. The online is not working properly. Cant find the info etc. Need to fix it all. Lousy service
Chad Ollendick: Sent to get a personal property tax waiver so that I can register my new vehicle. Was told by the guy at the front desk that I needed to text a number at 8 am to get a spot for an appointment. I tried for several days to text the number and every time it said “We are currently closed.” My wife called and they informed her that they have not been doing the texting system for several months. Now my nine month pregnant wife has been waiting for over 4 hours outside in her car and they won’t let her in to use the restroom. Terrible customer service and no respect for the community that they are supposed to serve.
Sherry Dean: I have been attempting to obtain a personal property title affidavit from the assessors office, so after spending an hour waiting, I got incorrect information from the clerk who I was working with, so after a second visit in a single day to the DMV, I had to call the assessors office a second time, only to be disconnected. Now - for a 3rd time today, I have been told by the DMV to ask to speak to a supervisor to straighten out the affidavit issue. To say the least I have come to expect minimal effort from assessors office not to mention the fact that those that I have spoken with don't appear to have any idea what they are doing, meaning additional, multiple phone calls and trips to the local state office. Nothing like witnessing first hand how tax dollars are spent on inept, apathetic employees. Too bad this type service is not privatized.
Maria Giboo: I have had to take multiple days off attempting to obtain some tax waiver to get my car registered. The 1st day, I was turned away bc i did not get there at 8am to recieve a number and get my place in the queue. (Got there at 1030). My now second day off, i show up to a note on the door that the office is closed to observe Harriot Truman's birthday. There is NOTHING online to determine which days this place will just decide to not be open. Dont bother calling bc they wont answer the phone when they are open anyway. This has been a 3 month process so far and i now have to wait 6 more weeks before able to take, yet another, day off of work for this.
ITzYaBOI Games: Terrible place with terrible service. Got denied at 3:00 to be serviced and they close at 5:00. They honestly need to be fired, retrained, or just shut down. What an awful experience.
Gladys: Ladies in Recorder of Deeds were very nice and helpful
Ray C: Day 2 of the line games …For a bunch of worthless fuccs who want to extort every red cent from you, one would think they would take some of that funding and hire more than one person, to work the one window, to do the job …. There’s 716,862 people in this fuccing county. Some folks don’t have the luxury of taking multiple days off of work , losing money to go get fucced by the government.Dry.With no lube./Rant*attention residents , there’s several states that not only do not charge property tax on vehicles , they also have zero residency requirements on licensing vehicles. I highly suggest looking into that solution instead of being screwed year after year by Jackson county.
not given: They open at 8 but you need to get there by 7 or the line fills up for the day, bring a folding chair.
Cheryl Kelso: So some one showed up at my house today so I will assume from this office 2 people in safety vest. They went to side of my house and to my front door. We work through the daytime. Nothing left behind to state there business
Nun Ya: Rude understaffed. Your tax payer dollars not at work. Even using qless system be prepared to wait all day.
Michelle Powers: I had a pretty good experience, text the number they provide to obtain your place in line, and they will keep you updated. I texted at 8am and was seen just before 10. Pretty efficient.
Belinda Williams: Tyler approached my house measuring When I opened the door to question him he was rude and condescending. I was home alone at the time and felt I had the right to ask him what was going on. Find better ways to update your new systems.
S S: Got here at just before 9am to pay sales tax on new car. I thought I would have plenty of time as I did not need to be at work until 1pm. Wrong. After nearly four hours, there were still 17 people ahead of me, so I had to leave. I will have to come back on a day where I have absolutely no other obligations because apparently this is an all day thing here. Extremely frustrating.
Josh Munyan: On hold forever, no one answers the phone, super unclear instructions, an absolute hassle
Tavion Phiffer: They never answer the phones and apparently can’t do their jobs right.
Rese Collins: been on hold for almost 2 hours waiting on them just to answer.
Meredith Roland: The workers were sooooo rude! They wouldn't let you talk or ask questions. No patience, didn't explain anything at all. I had a horrible experience. 😫
Nathan Dutcher: An absolute joke. Absolute joke.
Mackojr34 NBA 2K20 videos: waited 2 hours to then be told i was supposed to go to the Downtown KCMO office. They refused to help me AT ALL! The employees were smug little d-bags
joseph Itzen: For whatever reason they think it’s acceptable to only be open Monday-Friday 8-5 and start turning people away at 11am without online options. Not everyone can make this an all day affair.

Jackson County Assessors Office: what do users think?
Freddie Weisshaar: Great people customer service
Keri Olson: Receptionist was horribly rude! Texting system didn’t work and 4 hour wait without getting helped. Left and went to Independence which honestly wasn’t any better! I challenge the Assessor to actually go through this painful process - taxpayers deserve a better process!!!
Corinne Pachl: Super easy experience once I got through the line. Definitely recommend texting the number to save your spot in line before you even leave your house. You'll be able to request more time if you think you'll be late.
William Burrows: Nice people, but Jackson county likes to stick their hand in your wallet. Tax tax tax tax
Ms. Blue: The wait is awful. Bring a new resident it's no information to process your car registration. This has been a nightmare since I purchased my car here.
Danika Wolf: Clerk was rude and condescending. wish more online options were available so we wouldn’t have to deal with rude people
Raven C: The staff was very unprofessional and unfriendly assessor had an entire personal phone call conversation before attending to me while I was sitting right in her face in a chair positioned directly in front of her. You can imagine my dismay after a 3 1/2-hour wait. I was there the previous day (because they only take so many in a day, I had to return for the 3rd time), and the front desk girl also scrolled on her phone for about 5 minutes before looking up to address people standing in the room. Nor did she inform anyone there they could get in line via phone number or app. Just not resourceful or helpful in the least.
Deborah Jacobs: Marjorie was AWESOME. I was not told that when I move to a new county that I had to go to that counties assesors office to register my car for personal property tax! So my tags have been expired. I came to the court house Monday February 6th and was great in explaining what I needed to do, the documents I needed and even how to get my name on the wait list. She did not pass any judgements, was so polite and detailed in her explaining. I felt for the first time in over 1.5yrs someone finally told me exactly what I needed. She was wonderful, made a nervous person calm!!! Thank you!!!I also want to say that Mary who helped me get my car registered quickly and efficiently was great also!! And so was the cashier as well!!! Thank you all for being so kind!
Steven Hamblin: I called for information concerning my property taxes and was helped very nicely! The lady was kind , helpful and thorough.
Bruce Kuzma: Competent Service agents of the courts.
Syd: Okay to begin, parking was absolutely horrible. Plus wait times were very long in the afternoon. I checked in online when I was still at home, drove 20 mins out here, then still waited 45 mins here in the office. Finally when my number gets called I am notified to go to booth 5. I sit at booth 5 waiting on my assessor named Latoya, and no one is there. I get up an go to the check in desk to ask where my assessor is, when I get the message I have missed my turn and my spot has been given away. What? Because she wasn’t at her desk doing her job, my spot was given away? I rush back to booth 5 and sit down just for her to have an incredible attitude with me and another employee to yell at me to sit back in the waiting area and they’ll get back to me next. So my spot gets given away because no one was there to help me. Got it. Ashley ended up taking me at her desk next and helping me, and she was super helpful and quick. Overall a pretty sour experience being berated for Latoya not being at her desk, and I hope her supervisors look into this.
Alex Bentzinger: I had a really good experience with an assessor here. They were extremely patient and helpful with me as I navigated the process.
Joel Nesbit: Much faster and friendlier than the Independence MO location. Cool historic building. Was in and out with friendly service.
Joelle Melling: Helpful staff who explained and streamlined the process. The virtual queue is nice.
John Chiu, Jr.: I went into this location to get a Statement of Non-Assessment and I must say it was a pretty pleasant experience. The wait (there were 3 people ahead of me) was longer than the actual transaction, as Mary (the person I worked with) was very professional and got everything squared away in less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend going to this location to get things done (though I advise getting there before noon because by the time 12 PM rolled around at least 10 more people showed up).
Victor Lane-Hayes: I called to get some information about paying my personal property tax. Someone answered the phone and then hung up immediately. Couldn’t get through after that. Have to wait until Monday now
Crystal Millager: I have never had someone be so short with me. Wouldn’t even let me explain the situation and what I had done previously to resolve it, then gave me conflicting information as to what I needed.I get that dealing with the public is hard but you make it a lot harder when you start out being curt and incredibly rude.
Drew Pearson: Way less stressful than anticipated, very friendly people, quick service
Gabrielle Leigh: I called ahead today to confirm the proper procedure for changing my address, in order to pay property taxes. The man on the phone told me the docs to bring and said to come in person. I arrive 40 minutes before they say they close and was turned away after gathering the documents and walking a block in the rain, since there is zero parking within a block of this bureaucracy. At least post your legitimate hours or get with the times so people can get in line online! Now I am supposed to email all my documents and hope for a response in their que... GET WITH THE TIMES 👌
Josh McMillan: After a very bad experience at the Independence location, I decided to come to the KCMO location instead. Much more pleasant and friendly staff. A little of a wait, which was expected. I was there on a Friday afternoon, and still was only there for about 1 hour. Tina was super friendly and awesome to work with. She was very patient with us and helped us through the whole process. Highly recommend going to this location first.
Jesse Nielsen: I was NOT looking forward to calling based on the other reviews here... I'm not sure if I got lucky or what, but I got someone on the phone VERY fast after calling (even with a 'higher than usual call volume' warning)…The person I was connected with was pretty patient with my questioning, and was able to help me get exactly what I needed; all in all I was on the phone for a little longer than 5 minutes and was emailed the form I needed. This review says nothing about going into the office, but my one experience with calling them was a good one.
