Blue Nile Cafe: what do users think?
MERIYHOME: I was in town for the weekend and i went there by looking at reviews. I'm very disappointed, its not even Habesha Restaurant at all. Hire Habesha person to cook the right dish.this photo below is "Yebeg Tibs" or Lamb Tibs. So if you habesha you know what i am talking about. Look the sauce on the tibs that is caned sauce no fresh tomatoes at all. And my sambusa supposed to be appetizers but it came after the food, i just left it like that. i got charged for tibs and two sambusa $32 and some changes. The Waiter asked me if it's good and i told him NO we don't cook tibs like this, and he said i don't know that is how the chief cook it here.

There are plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options, while also serving plenty of meat dishes as well. A place for everyone to get together. Melody J: We had a event and Blue Nile Cafe catered it. Awesome service. Wonderful food. The Orthopedic Surgeons enjoyed the food. We will definitely cater again.
Alexander Eurit: Have you ever participated in an Ethiopian coffee ceremony? The coffee is so fresh and delicious, it's such a delightful extension of warm hospitality! Another nice thing about Blue Nile is that they offer the option of eating with silverware or injera, making it agreeable for folks who appreciate options! My family loved the spices so much that they asked for more of the seasoning for the table, and the server graciously brought the container from the kitchen for us to use! Not everyone is going to have the stomach for this spice, and quite a few of the offerings are spicy, so be aware of that!Vegetarian options: I especially enjoyed their vegetarian Yekik Watt! The potatoes were so savory and filling! All in all, it was a really nice lunch!

Jason K: This used to be my favorite place but I have no plans to return. They have gone 100% vegetarian. The food remains delicious.Service was a tad slow, but he's always very friendly. Just not always hygienic. Please don't cough on the drinking glasses when you're carrying them in front, or reach inside the glass to pick it up before (or after) filling it.Ethiopian food is amazing. The food is still great. This place used to be outstanding! The food still is, But with the very limited only vegetarian menu, and some progressive service issues, we will choose elsewhere. (Had same staff in the past and it's been similar but this was worse and was seen for multiple customers the day we were there)
Josie B: Delicious! First time here and ordered the veggie combo. Everything was delicious, not sure why this place isn't packed on a Friday evening for dinner but we will be back.
Sherilyn Camerlinck: Great-tasting food as always, but I miss the meat. Nice selection of beer, including 3 options of our local Boulevard brand.
Kathryn Goldfarb: Fantastic vegetarian— we got take-out but the restaurant smelled divine! The sampler platter was wonderful. Thank you! We will be back when we are in town again!
Jeri Lowe Howell: We have been to Elsa's several times, but this is the first time we've been since they have gone all vegetarian/vegan. We aren't vegetarian/vegan, and while we do eat that way from time to time, we weren't sure we wanted to do so this p.m. So glad we stayed! The flavor of everything they cook is just amazing and I've never had anything there that was not tasty! Even if you don't usually eat this way, give this restaurant a try. You'll be so glad you did and you will leave satisfied! Highly recommended: Dinich Wot, Misir Wot, Yemisir Alicha and Gomen.Vegetarian options: ALL of it - some of the best all veg. I've ever had!!Parking: There is a space for parking right beside the building.

Kip Ruto: one of few vegan restaurants you will enjoy food. Great hospitalityVegetarian options: taste better than meatKid-friendliness: yes
Priyanka Manjunath: I have been a regular at Elsa’s for quite a while now. I was disappointed about my last two visits because of poor customer service. I am in my last week of pregnancy and was badly craving for some enjiras and misir wot. My husband and I ordered a veggie combo and all I asked while placing the order was for my enjiras to be a little warm because 3/5 times we were served cold ones. The man rudely responded saying “we give what we have”. It doesn’t take much effort to warm up enjiras? I felt so taken aback. Enjiras are meant to be eaten when they are warm, else they’re going to stick to your teeth. I reluctantly ateto satisfy my pregnancy cravings. The enjiras were ice cold and uncooked. The old man who served us wanted us to just eat, get up, pay & leave. He didn’t even bother to come check on how our food was. But he was constantly checking on other customer’s food even take away pickups. My husband added a considerate tip amount although we did not like the service. The old man behind the register said “thank you” with such haste to which I decided I am not going to return to this restaurant ever. Good food/ambience is just 50% of what a restaurant provides. The remaining is how customers are treated during their visit.

Melissa Molina: This place has very flavorful and well-prepared options. My husband and I enjoy the food every time we come. It is important to note that they stopped serving meat. We came last night, and although we enjoyed our food, had been looking forward to meat options, but they changed their menu to vegetarian only.Vegetarian options: Their entire menu consists of vegetarian or vegan options.

pat royal: My husband , son and I dined here for dinner as it was recommended as a fine Ethiopian Cuisine. We frequent many around town and happened to been in the area and sat down here to try it out!!THE ABSOLUTELY WORSE EXPERIENCE AND FOOD EVER! My son ordered Mac and cheese. It was $9.99 for a box of microwaved Kraft box Mac & cheese! That was extremely hot! Uncomfortable to eat and took forever to cool down. Then it had no seasoning or nothing added to spruce it up. Just a big bowl of dry ole Mac and cheese! My husband and I both ordered a veggie plate. The lentils were hard, the greens tasted like they were pulled straight from the ground and cooked with the dirt on them. The beets were over cooked! None of the food had taste. The ingera was the worse! The waitress was very rude from the beginning. She brought our Sambusas out with the meal when we had placed the order as an appetizer on top of them being burnt. My food was barely touched. My husband and son forced themselves to eat what little they did!I informed the waitress about the unpleasant experience with the food and she seen we hadn’t eaten much and she was stale and unpolished in her apology. We still paid the full price for the ticket but definitely won’t be back! She snatched the plates before I could get a pic of my son and husbands! I did snap mines. It was so horrible I didn’t even take it to go! I only ate the tomato dish that was extremely spicy! The only thing on the plate that had some flavor! We still tipped and left graciously! But the food and service was horrible! We definitely won’t be back! Never wasted money on a dish like that! Terrible!I don’t recommend AT ALL!
Conor Mikel: Ordered off Postmates for lunch pick-up. I got the veggie combo. 10/10. The platter is enough for 2 meals and is packed with deliciousness. I am so thrilled!Vegetarian options: Veggie combo. May possibly be a vegan option as well.
Lexie02 Jones: Ughhh! Their food portion is small and expensive. I notice the more I go there, the more they have less quality food. The injera was cold, like really cold and it felt like there were grains of dirt in it. The food didn't even taste that good, I wish they had a little bit more of salt and seasoning to give more flavor. Don't get me started on the baklava. That desert was hard to cut and chew, more like rocklava. I wish Their food portion was a little bit bigger and the injera warm and tasty.Vegetarian options: It ok
Burak Senturk: This place needs to step it up, their prices are way to high for the quality. A single samosa was 3 dollars and it wasn’t warm at all. The injera was cold and tasted slightly off and the food quality was not what we expected. The baklava was also not good and I’ve had baklava before. The quantity for a 20 dollar plate combo was also lack luster. Be careful how you spend your money, many other Ethiopian restaurants that I feel have better prices and quality.
Nikki: If you haven't ever had Ethiopian food, now is the time to try it!First of all, I LOVE how veggie friendly and gluten-free friendly they are! All the injera is gluten free (some places use wheat as a filler. Selamta says theirs is all Teff). The veggie combo is enough for 2-3 people to share, or three meals for just me! They absolutely don't skimp on the injera or the meal itself. And it's all SO GOOD. It doesn't feel oily or heavy, just filling and delicious. So flavorful. And so much variety: carrots and potatoes, a couple types of lentils, collard greens, split peas (my favorite), beets, and a couple more I'm not remembering. Each one has its own flavor profile and texture. Do yourself a favor and try Ethiopian food! Make sure you order a honey wine with it.Vegetarian options: Very accommodating!Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating!
Flash Games: Great food!
Gospel Bearer: This is a restaurant I could eat at every day for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t hesitate if the opportunity were available to me. I have in three trips experienced the top five meals of my lifetime, two of which now hold the #1 and #2 position. I can hardly find the proper adjectives and depth of quality and value that my meals here have brought to my life. Upon my second visit (I had the beef tibs the first time around) I ordered Qey Wat and the veggie combo, I was moved to tears. I ate alone each time and the tears were primarily motivated by the overwhelming wish that I could share such exotic delight with a loved one friend or otherwise. I have eaten a wide variety of foods throughout my near four decades of culinary experience and I wouldn’t recommend any other choice in the whole world more highly than this combination of flavors and textures. Please do yourself a lifetime experience of ordering the Qey Wat and veggie combo, also enjoy a glass of tej. I’m deeply grateful for my experience and I will take every future opportunity I have to visit this blessing to earth and people.
B.R. Brown: Unbelievable, a meal that makes me want to be part of an authentic Ethiopian experience beyond introduction! For a first time, I am blown away.
Russ Schenke: Great food, nice atmosphere
Deb K: Good atmosphere, great good. The fish was delicious, the veggie platter and injera was delicious.
Eva Bett: Horrible service. The absolute worst service we have ever had. Food was ok not great. We have had far better at other Ethiopian locations around town. We were the only people in the restaurant except for a few who were picking up to go orders. Will not be coming back here. Do not recommend!!!!
Allen Heinrich: First experience with Ethiopian cuisine, the crispy fish with rice and green salad were very good, a lot of new (for me) flavors, service was good, atmosphere on Sunday afternoon was laid back, very nice dinner overall, definitely going backVegetarian options: Plenty of choices here.
davidino 123: Good food, nice people. It was awesome experiencing Ethiopian cuisine. I’ll definitely be back.
Samuel Shanko: It is one of the best restaurants. I loved the way they serve.
Cheryl Parrish: This was by far the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had. The restaurant is lovely, the staff is friendly but the food was absolutely AMAZING!!
Irish Racion: This is our first time with Ethiopian food. I'm still adjusting to the taste. I ordered Tibs and asa kotelet. The tibs (spicy sautéed beef) is really good. The injera (sour bread) is too sour to eat it plain, you have to balance it with the beef, the sauce was too spicy for me (just use a little bit if you can't handle spicy food) overall experience was great.
Julian Holtmeyer: The food was great!
Dennis Clay: Great food, great service!
Wendy Smith: Absolutely amazing.Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Takeout: Yes …More

Jason Bendure: I decided to try this spot for a quick lunch and everything was perfect. The dining area is clean and the service is courteous and pleasant. There is a lot I don't know about West African cuisine and their ample menu means I will have to go back more often to try different dishes. I chose the Shrimp Kebab and Fried Spinach with Beef and knew when my food arrived it would be very good. Everything was made fresh with a range of flavors and spices that was complex without being fussy. My favorite thing about what I ordered was the chili sauce served with the shrimp. Amazing. I will be going back and taking friends and family with me as well. I hope this wonderful restaurant becomes a Kansas City favorite for years to come.

I've never been interrogated like this even by the police!??? I won't be spending another penny in there., Plus I had to wait 2 Hrs!!!!

Brady Brady: We read other reviews first and either the issues have been resolved, or we came on a good night. We didn't have to wait long at all for our food, despite that it was obvious they were busy with carry-out orders. The service was perfect other than one slight issue when we received an appetizer, but no small plates for us to use. Likewise, the food was excellent, and unlike some complaints, the portions were huge (had to take leftovers home). We had fufu, okra with goat meat, and mackerel with rice and plantain. Some of the flavors were unlike anything we'd ever tasted, especially the rice. The ginger drink was great. We thought the prices were appropriate for what we received. We'll be back.

Stacie Simpson: This was my second visit. It is not for me. We had the peanut butter chicken it was just ok. We had the appetizer platter. The only item that was good was the samosas. The chicken skewers were extremely dry. The banger wasn't awful. The potatoes were bland. Absolutely no taste at all. I was expecting an explosion of seasoning in my mouth. That didn't happen. I also had the ginger pineapple juice it was spicy but good. I asked for a sprite to add to it, but she never brought it out. I had the fried plantains and ice cream, and it was ok if you like fried plantains. I won't be giving it a third chance.
Andrew Hill: I recently visited Taste of Africa, a locally-owned restaurant serving authentic African cuisine. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the friendly staff who were happy to offer food recommendations. The menu had a great variety of options, including vegetarian choices which was a big plus.We started with the appetizer sampler and it was outstanding! Each item was so flavorful and delicious, it made us even more excited to try the main courses. The food itself was well-seasoned and had amazing taste. We cannot wait to go back and try other dishes from the menu. The restaurant itself was very clean and well-maintained, including the bathroom which was spotless. The art decor added to the overall ambiance and made for a pleasant dining experience.Overall, I highly recommend Taste of Africa to anyone who is looking for authentic African cuisine. The friendly staff, great variety of options, and outstanding flavors make this restaurant a must-try. It was definitely worth the wait, and I am looking forward to my next visit.
Kay Shields: Ordered the peanut butter chicken, the chicken pilau, the goat pepper soup with fufu, and a few other items. Very delicious! My favorite was the pilau. It was a very comfortable setting with nice art and tables, the staff were incredibly kind and when asked what her favorite food was, the young lady serving us gave us a nice description of the meals. I would love to go back again and try other food next time. :) I suggest this restaurant to anyone. The plates were filling and the portion sizes were nice.
A Grunspan: I got carry out from here and I must say, it is delicious! I ordered the chicken stew, seasoned rice, sautéed cabbage and fufu. Everything was so good, I will definitely be ordering from here on a regular basis! The restaurant looked clean and the young lady working there was very sweet.

Shivon Monique: Like everyone said the wait time is pretty long. In addition, the portion size was quite small. It was weird because I saw some other plates with lots of food. It was an okay experience.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

Gregory Ramirez: We used to eat here before pandemic. It was delicious then and still is now. We have tried several dishes and have been pleased. I would say, be prepared to wait. We are not sure if we went on an off day, but there was limited service help. The poor server did what she could but she definitely needed help with the full restaurant at the time. This will not deter us from returning though, the food is yummy.
Faith Wilkins: Everytime I stop in Overland Park Kansas to eat I am always pleased that I came to this establishment. The food is delicious and the ambience is amazing. The staff and owner are personable. I have been to this restaurant numerous times alone and with friends and every single time the service has been top notchTry them and you won't regret it.

Hannah s: My sister and I went for dine in and waited over an hour - in the end we just asked for it to go because they were about to close and we were tired. The portions were small for the price and the food was just ok. Don’t know if they were short staffed or something but if you go ask for an approximate wait so you don’t waste time.
Katie Stamer: Wanted to try something out of the norm, but now will be making this part of my regular rotation of restaurants for take out or eat in. Excellent service with knowledgeable staff and she gave great recommendations for what we ended up ordering. What a pleasant surprise and excellent, hot and stick-to-your-ribs good!Vegetarian options: We had the vegetarian sampler, the plantains and kale were excellent, as well as the vegetable samosas, crispy and freshly fried.Wheelchair accessibility: In a strip mall with ramps to the sidewalk and handicap parking available. Tables and booths available.Dietary restrictions: Vegan options also available.
Braylin Young: They wait an hour after placing my order to say they ran out of the meat I ordered. No worries, I make a substitute, then they cancel the entire order. Never wasting my money here again.UPDATE: they also lie! DoorDash DID contact me and I responded to have the meat substituted. But they just cancelled the entire order.
JENIFFER KARANJA: The food was amazing and the service was on point , very friendly staff.
Cynthia S.: The experience was amazing. Food was very yummy and it's now my favorite eating joint. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.Parking: Ample parkingWheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible
