Independence Municipal Court: what do users think?
Tyler Kugler: Absolutely pathetic. I've been here multiple times now only to be sent to the wrong department, having to restart the process of a line that is almost around the building an hour before it opens :) They have like 3 people working the windows whe. They need at least 2 more to accommodate the mass influx of people they haven't been able to serve since the tail end of the damned pandemic.
Robert Bivens (Rob): Well they take my money and put people in jail
Glenda Ross: Deserves 0 stars. The women who answer the phone act like THEIR job inconveniences them. Worthless to say the least
Vern Gib: This is the most ridiculous process. My mother has been trying to get her personal property taxes taken care of since she moved from clay back into jackson county. Finally, after three months she waited in line ALL DAY LONG. She is 70 years old and this is a ridiculous process for people who don't know how to use technology. Nobody could answer her questions over the phone or at the counter without having a place in line.. She was treated rudely by some of the staff. They are lucky i wasnt there. I was at work. This process needs a process improvement asap. My mom reported that the elderly people were stuck there all day. People in walkers and wheelchairs. No food, water, or inside bathrooms were available. Is this how we treat our elders? Unreal. Come on Jackson county get it together!!!Independence property tax applications
Tyler Samborski: Up stuck most snobby peaple ever to talk to over the phone, tell me to pay my fine online so I try but It say I can’t pay online. I live 3 hours, the right information should be told to me in person when I’m there not over the phone with some lady that has zero patience.
KeyaAnd Quezzy: They never answer the phone!!!!!
Good Citizen: Please support your 1st Amendment Right to video record the public service areas in Independence like the social Security administration facility. The security guard and police are tyrants and rights violators. We need to document their rights violations and horrible service. That’s precisely why we have a first amendment. It’s kind of ironic that this happens in the town of Independence.
Caleb Savage: Quick and easy. I put myself in line at the courthouse via text and just waited till there were 12 people in front of me and headed there. By the time I got there I only waited 15 minutes and a helpful lady got my property taxes set up and got me my waiver. Just call the courthouse for the number to put yourself in line first. Wake up at 8 to be the first in line or the Q will close before you can get in
Courtney Lindsay: 3 hour wait to obtain 1 form in order to get my car tags switched from KS to MO. I had to call into work in order to be here....
Sean Laney: Thank you for kicking me while I’m down. Nothing like a monetary fine for having expired tags to reinforce that I’m poor. I now have $0 in my bank account for the week, guess I just won’t eat or get gas for work.
Blake Adams: This place is a joke
Christopher Lincoln: If I could give the Independence Municipal Court 0 stars along with the judge over my case I would. I filed charges with the Independence Prosecutor to have a woman by the name of Mikysha D. Bates prosecuted for stealing my social security number and compromising my identity. Mikysha D. Bates had got every utility bill in my name from Spire, Evergy, KC Water and even a AT&T/Direct TV cable bill. These bills totaled over thousands of dollars at an address I never lived at that they are trying to hold me accountable for along with a fraudulent check that Mikysha D. Bates sent electronically to KC Water. The amount of money this has cost me to clear my name and miss days of work while Mikysha D. Bates hired a defense attorney to have a lesser charge or to have the case dismissed is ridiculous and absurd. If Mikysha D. Bates defense attorney finds this okay maybe she needs to steal the judge and her defense attorney social security number and tarnish they're identity and credit representation. She reluctantly didn't show up to court the day she was supposed to because she doesn't want to take no accountability or responsibility for her actions. Now I'm stuck with the bills while she is living her glamorous life on Facebook. I tried going about this the right and legal way to recieve justice for the mental, financial and emotional stress this has caused me and this is the thanks I get for doing this through the judicial system wow I guess this is what justice really looks like so much for liberty one nation under god with liberty and justice for all.
only success: Terrible service
Grisel Carreon: Impossible to get anybody on the phone
Kim Cox: Judge Helms (Gary) is short , rude , won't give you a chance to explain anything , he's very inconsiderate and needs not to be a judge! ! He doesn't care to find out the truth he's just ready to get outta there and go home !
Tino Le: Update: According to the news. Judge Gary Helms was reprimanded with a different judge due to his misconduct and some violations. Some of them were failing to comply with the law, failure to promote confidence in the judiciary and failing to avoid abusing the office of judiciary, etc. I was the victim of domestic violence and get charged with the same crime by this judge. I’m glad the court reprimanded this man. I have to live my life with a record because this judge abuse his power and denied to hear my side of the story even when my ex failed to appear in court. She had been charged for domestic violence for beating me up with multiple objects the first time when we lived in Olathe. Since I moved to independence I had ran into this judge twice for different situations and he always look at me differently because I’m Asian. The first time he charge me for some logs behind my own backyard and fine me without giving me time to clean it up and the second time for dv assault when I was the one who called the police for help. I know this review is long but I’m just trying to get this off my chest. I’m just happy that he’s no longer a judge for independence for the sake of the community. I’m still trying to get my case expunge to this day. Hopefully the legislative pass a law to where I can expunge this off my record🙏. God bless America!
Connie Rivera: The 1st judge I encountered, Judge Helm, was curt, and rude, and accused me of asking for 2 continuances when it was actually the court who imposed them, as he imposed yet another, 3rd, continuance. This court appearance was because a cop accused me of running a stop sign, which was NOT true. When the judge, Susan Watkins, finally heard my case, she wasn't interested in hearng the details of my case or looking at the photos I had. So, without considering the details, especially the photos, to prove my innocence, she found me guilty! But to her credit, she waved the fine, $92.00, and only charged me court cost, $31.50. Still, it's a mark on my driving record. 😦
Jimmy Elmore jr.: If I could I would give it 0.
A B: Terrible. Just a money machine.
Daniel Henderson: Got a seatbelt violation after I was rear-ended sitting at a red light... I took my seatbelt off to get out of the car.... How does that mean I was driving without it? *Because you didn't put your vehicle in park before getting out* was the answer I received. Everyday I lose faith in the independence PD and all the people working at this courthouse...
The Law of Attraction: A love story like no other only God is allowed here 2 helper guard us. Thank you and God bless you for your service.

16th Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri: what do users think?
Steve Craven: What a joke, no respect for jurors time. I feel like a slave to the system.
Stew Hemmer: What in an excusable failure of a governmental system. I am embarrassed to be a resident of Kansas City, Missouri.
Amaris Bice: Trying to get ahold of summons and no one has answered the phone for 40min
Navaeh Lewis: I love my family court judge. She listens to me and she does what she says she’s going to do.
Nina Hatmal: Can never get through to them over the phone even during business hours. Don't even try.
tanya Warren: I am just thankful that this system is here for us free of charge. No matter the outcome Preferably a great outcome though 👩‍⚖️🙌💰😇💯
Justin: I've called and emailed multiple times. If this was a private business they would be out of business. Zero customer support, zero ability to communicate with the court. no amount of bad reviews will matter because we're forced to toil through their broken system. When the people want to burn down government buildings, I laugh because burning it down wouldn't make it function any better or worse.
Renea Love: Clerk was very nice . They get you in and get you out .
Fock Guugle: They never answer the phone because the receptionist is too busy suckin shaft for crack rocks
Daniel Lewis: No one will answer the phones. Are they closed on week days as well?
Ricky Burks: Crooked and dishonest
Tyler Albrecht: Went to the courthouse to get a statement of non-assessment for my car registration. I had to wait probably 2 hours but they did a good job of spacing everyone apart and the receptionist was very nice and patient.
Maureen Hudson: I have been trying for over a month to obtain records. I call for 8 or 9 days there is no answer. They can't find my records. Referred to supervisor. She never answers phone or returns calls. Freaking nightmare.
Steve Olinger: Very rude and does not respect the first amendment.
Katherine Hambrick: I've been in here three times to pay property taxes. Always been ill-prepared because reasons. Every time, they have sat down with me and let me email them things, show them photo copies, call other gov. offices etc. to help me do what I came to do. Each time they take an extra 20 minutes just so I don't have to make a second trip. Never made me feel stupid for not knowing what I needed, even though I should have. Little things like not making me feel like a moron, go a long way in a government building. That's just been my experience.
bob burton: The department of Civil Process hired the most incompetent human being you have ever seen as its director. Her name is Jonni Wright, and every taxpayer in Jackson County should be thrilled she is gone. She wasted at least a million dollars of your money, taxpayers. She hired a guy named Jack Foster that:1) The county purchased a brand new car for him to spend half of his time in the field (which never happened)2) He received a car allowance (fraud) from the county that was treated as income...would love to see these tax returns.3) Because of director Wright's incompetence, the department (county court) was sued at least a half dozen times...losing at least 2 of these suits and getting bailed out on a few others because of immunity. The amount of money spent defending the county court, along with needing the Attorney Generals office to help, meant the amount of money lost because of Ms Wright's incompetence is well over a million dollars.5) The county actually hired Foster as her replacement....he is clueless to many functions of the dept, as was Ms Wright.Every taxpayer in Jackson County MO should be outraged at all of this. I did not even go into the hiring process that let Ms Wright screw the taxpayers, but a few emails between her boss that hired her (Jeff Eisenbeis who was sued and is now gone) tell the story. A few "sexual innuendos" were discovered at trial. Now we get to the current assistant court administrator Tracy Smedley. This person LIED on 17 pages of a deposition she gave relating to all of these lawsuits, with no consequence whatsoever.1) How did she keep her job?2) How was she not disbarred? Now before you say how do I know she lied? She admitted it on the stand!!!!!!!Unfortunately, there is much, much more I cannot disclose at this time.
Withers Brant: I have found the judges in the Sixteenth Circuit Court of Missouri to be competent, fair, courteous and interested in the judicial process. They have a difficult job that will usually result in at least one side being unhappy with the outcome. My hat is off to the Jackson County Judges I have worked with. They really are doing a great job in difficult circumstances.
Lonnie Vang: Incompetent and crooked officials in this office. Not helpful and tries to pass blame on anyone else but their office. Almost impossible to reach by phone.
Maybe Next Year: This Court, is corrupt, from top to bottom. You’ve seen it in the news between the jail, the Sheriff, county commissioner, mike Sanders, etc. the court is no exception at all.Fraud, waste, and abuse are normal practices. Specifically, the Civil Process Dept. jonni Wright, is dangerously inept, Jack Foster is a coward, who fascilitates placing Deputies in danger. If you bring up concerns, you will be mercilessly attacked, harassed and retaliated against. They have been sued many times for discrimination and other matters. Human Resources protects abusers. Tracy Smedley, purgered on the stand, as well as Jonni Wright and still has a job, at the people’s Court. But they will run employees out who bring up egrigious safety concerns and harassment claims. For the safety of the community, and the integrity of our legal, and Government agencies, these people must be removed and cleared out of the way.Attorneys, Journalists, Patriots out there: Wanna know how screwed up everything is? Start at the Civil Process Department, talk to the Deputies, go from there. It goes all the way to the top.Bring Sanitizer.
Gregory Watt: Good place to start your career.
dblodgett61: The Sheriff's Office staff was friendly and professional, as was the court personnel; however the difficulties with locating parking was deplorable.
