Mark Lyon: Kudos to Dr. Shaan Akhtar!I entered the emergency entrance of Centerpoint Hospital here in, Independence, Mo, on the 27th Jan, 2023. I was suffering a massive gallbladder attack combined with severe Pancreatitis. I was told after I'd checked in that if I'd been two hours later checking in with them, I would have coded. I had no idea that my gallbladder and pancreas had been under severe inflammation for many years. I almost died. They set me up for surgery to remove my gallbladder. I was fortunate enough to get Dr. Shaan Akhtar. He did such a great job for me that now, two weeks after surgery, I'm feeling the best I've felt in a plethora of years! God bless this man for being the excellent surgeon that he is. If you hope to get someone who will not only do things right, but do them compassionately and perfectly, look no further. This man saved my life.....period! I'll be forever grateful that I had the fortunate experience of having him as my surgeon. Kudos to you, Dr. Akhtar! Thank you so much!!!

Ericka: The bariatric program specialist got back to me in a timely manner after I submitted my information online. Called me and set up the initial consult with Dr.John Price. One of the first things they go over with you is the cost ( based off of your individual insurance) you receive a folder with the necessary paperwork. You meet with the doctor performing the surgery and he recommends which one would be a good fit for you.You have to also take nutrition and exercise classes to help with creating a great diet and workout plan after surgery. I went ahead and got the gastric bypass done. I was only in the hospital for two days my whole process went very smooth.I reccomend this program to anyone looking into weight loss surgery. I've had a really good experience with them !

Natasha Puttroff: I watched there very brief online seminar, filled out there paperwork and two weeks later they still never called. I finally called to check on my submission, and the concierge (not a nurse) told me I wasn’t eligible because I have no comorbidities (which isn’t true) and because my BMI (which they had incorrect) wasn’t high enough. I tried to explain to her the inaccuracies of what she was telling me, she said she was just the messenger and wouldn’t argue with me and hung up on me. Checked out the Bariatric Center of Kansas City. They have a far more comprehensive program and website and gave accurate information. Saint Luke’s has gone so downhill. I’m embarrassed that I ever worked for them.

Halsey Hahne: To say I was disappointed with my experience would be a understatement. It isn't a secret that healthcare in America is a joke and Healthcare.gov isn't taking care of anyone. With that said as healthcare worker myself I believe, we should do better for our patients and help them navigate their benefits. We are the experts, we deal with it every day. I have been in healthcare 15 years and the way this office has treated me is deplorable. I am by no means a victim and I am not above admitting when I am wrong. I needed help navigating my very complicated market place insurance plan. The administrative team really missed the mark from beginning to end. When I called to set up my initial appointment I was fully transparent. I was notified that my plan was accepted and that they would do everything they could to work with me. On the day of the appointment I was very anxious and I asked again about my insurance, I was once again asked I was told it should be fine. I met with the Dr. Solimen and his chair side manner was fantastic he put me at ease and assured me that his insurance verification team was the best. I left the appointment feeling hopeful for the first time in years. About a week later I received a call from someone on the insurance team and I was in tears by the end of the call. I am not someone who cries much at all. She was so dismissive and dehumanizing she did not have any empathy at all. At the encouragement of my mother she said I should call back and try to get help. I spoke to someone and she seemed very empathetic and said she would look into everything and call me back. She never did. Fast forward to today I am enrolling for my 2023 insurance plan and the policy is changing. So I called and asked to speak to someone so I can clarify this verbiage. I was on speaker phone with 2 people and again the lack of professionalism was disgraceful and if any of my staff treated a patient the way I was treated I would let them go. It costs nothing to have empathy and be kind. Instead they told me. I would be better suited going to another practice all together. I am not above reproach and I will even admit that one of my comments came off disrespectful due to my frustration, but I immediately clarified that I was not intending to speak about them disparagingly. My take away from this interaction was that they don't want to deal with insurance. If you don't want to deal with insurance and patients with insurance become fee for service. Then you are setting reasonable expectations and patients with complicated insurance aren't your problem. My hope is that this feedback will prevent another patient from experiencing the lack of care that I received.

Judy McGregor: My son had surgery done by Dr Soloman. Surgeon did very good at the surgery but avoids the patient after surgery. My son was not seen for more that 6 weeks after surgery. Not even during his hospital stay after surgery. During the course of healing his PA was very rude and very unprofessional to him on the phone. After several attempts to see dr Soloman, he had to advocate for himself to get a CT scan only to find out he had a sarcoma. Very poor and unexcusable service by a Dr.Please make sure this is seen by the doctor. When he did get in to see him, well....the dr did not have time to hear him out and advised him to talk to someone else..very sad.

I called back twice trying to get in contact with the office and no one bothered to return the message. When I finally got in contact with the office they had no idea what I was talking about. I was told unless I had a name of who called they couldn’t help me. They didn’t leave a name so I couldn’t provide them one. The customer service was so bad I just cancelled the appointment. I’ve been a healthcare provider for 16 years and your first impression of a provider is your interaction with the front desk and I lost trust with this interaction. Very disappointed but I know there are other amazing physicians throughout the metro that would be happy toassist me.Update: I received a call back from a wonder individual at the office that made everything right and I’m excited to proceed with the appointment.

Steve Weigand: Excellent experience all around Dr Tann was great First meeting he explained everything that I wanted to know about the process I would be going through if I decided to proceed Once it was all clear I was definitely ready to go forward It took several months to go through all the preliminary appointments but I finally got there despite Covid delaying several steps I started my pre surgery diet the day after Christmas, had surgery morning of Jan 4th and left the hospital Jan 5th I had hardly any pain at all that first night and nothing since coming home Going into the hospital I was on insulin taking 180 units daily I haven’t had any since leaving the hospital Also have dropped one blood pressure pill I was on and am headed towards none I was slightly hungry for a couple days after getting home but stuck to my liquid diet After those few days I have never had problems with being hungry for more than my daily diet As of today January 25th I have lost 54 pounds since Christmas I am going to stay on the liquid diet for a while longer even though I am able to start mixing in solid foods at this point I want to continue losing weight as fast as I can because I feel better every day Everyone in Dr Tann’s office and the hospital also have been the greatest I highly recommend all to anyone considering this gastric bypass procedure

Al Will: I came to Bariatric and Metabolic Specialist at an all time low. I an 5'1" and weighed 310lbs. I was taking 2 blood pressure pills everyday, cholesterol meds, was pre-diabetic. I needed a double knee replacement and my left hip replaced. I would loose 50 to 60 pounds and then gain it back never quite enough to get my BMI low enough for surgery. I hit rock bottom when I started needing a wheelchair or electric cart. The staff at Bariatric and Metabolic made me feel comfortable and treated me like my life was important. They took time to explain their program and fortunately due to my medical needs my insurance covered my ROUX-EN-Y Gastric bypass surgery. Everyone made this journey so worth doing. It was not easy and you have to follow the nutrition plan but I now have my life back. 1 year later, and have had one knee replacement surgery. With the excess weight loss, I can now wait before needing my hip replacement.I can't thank my team at Bariatric and Metabolic Specialist enough, and i highly recommend them!

Charlene Lopez: In my opinion, Dr. DeLatore is one of the best Barriatric surgeons in the Kansas City area. Many doctors perform barriatric surgery but few of them offer the level of skill and care Dr DeLatore & his staff do. They take time to know their patients and make sure they have realistic expectations throughout the weight loss process. I lost approxiately 100 lbs. without being able to exercise and went from taking 150 units of insulin daily ...in addition to pills... to currently only taking 10 units of insulin & no pills. This surgery was a lifesaver for me. I still have some more weight to lose but know I'll make it with such awesome support. If you are wondering if weight loss surgery is for you, call Dr. DeLatore for a consultation. He'll give you the information you need to make a good decision.

The waiting room, was welcoming for their overweight patients. The doctor did not sugarcoat treatment and surgical options, but gave realistic expectations. Office staff and medical assistants help make the whole process as easy as possible.

Ken Hupp: I had previously gave CAS a bad rating for a billing issue and not returning my messages. Well, someone got wind of the bad review and called me to help rectify the situation. They then processed,the bill correctly. The health care system in general is not my favorite and I am sure I was reflecting my anxiety with health care in general in my previous review. They made it right 4 stars for billing 5 stars of course for the wonderful nurses.

I have scheduled an appointment for a procedure, one day before I received a phone call stating that I need to bring with me $ 830.00 to pay for it, I told the person that I can't pay the full amount, I said maybe a percentage and I will send the remaining balance later on. I was suggested to apply for a Credit Card and if the application is rejected I can pay 25% in front. That's is very sad. My insurance will pay the majority of the procedure. Why they don't show some sympathy for someone who needs help. I ended up canceling my appointment, hopefully my problem won't get worse until I find a different way to have it done. I have gone to different hospitals and they never ask for big amounts of money, very disappointed.

Lauren Cunningham: Should be zero stars. Had to go to this surgery center instead of our normal one because it was a last minute surgery and this was the only available location for the doctor group. They told us last minute that there would be an $1,100 surgery center fee that was separate from our insurance, had nothing to do with the surgery cost itself. Horrible way to pray on those who are vulnerable. We refused the surgery. Other surgery centers I have been to have never asked for money like that. This should be illegal.

Had a procedure scheduled for approximately 3 wks, when I arrived I was told my procedure had been canceled and when I ask by who I was told she didn't know. The Dr's nurse said it was canceled by the surgery center. They should have called me and let me know.
